I encounter this error when trying to update to latest firmware for my Z1. I have a locked bootloader.
I already tried restarting my PC, re-installing PC companion, but to no avail. Please help!
P.S. PC companion is actually finished downloading the update and it is now at the point where I believe it should update the phone.
same problem here in Indonesian region

I think you should wait for the ftf file and flashed it through flashtool.

Hi I've got 2 questions.
1. I've for some time had an unlocked bootloader on my Z and I've installed another ROM, PAC man, but now when I plugged in my device to Sony PC Companion I get a message that I've got an new firmware available, shouldn't PCC recognized the phone as unrecognizable?
Sorry that it's in swedish but translated it stands: An update of the phone's/tablets firware is available

A new version of the phone's/tablet's firmware is available
(10.1.1.A.1.253)
Bla bla bla
Click Update to start the updateguide.
2. I was wondering if there are any problem to install/update to .253 using PCC when on unlocked bootloader and another ROM? If I ever want to restore, could I use this instead of my .ftf if I want to factory reset it too, as an alternative to Flashtool?
Thanks

My experience is that PCC says there is an update for my device, which of course there is, but it wont update when I tried with unlocked bootloader .

Let me know when it does . No really you will be fine.
You will have a message:your phone has a modified software and the update will not carry on.
You can go back to stock by using emma,it's only for unlocked bootloader or of course with flashtool.
To use pcc or sus update's capabilities you will have to flash a stock rom and relock the bootloader with flashtool(no need for TA).

Yepp after downloading all files, then when I put the phone in flash mode it told me that the firmware were modified but I did at least get an ftf from it ( @DevShaft )

Flashtools at 30% when copy system.ini frozen there and dont start to copy
Use Sony Update Service (download from Sony website). Perhaps this works
Edit: Did you come from a other ROM? Locked or unlocked bootloader?
If your device is stock try using a different USB cable i also couldn't flash or even root when I bought this phone it turned out to be the USB cable!!
If you got unlocked bootloader PC companion or sus will not work.

That is not true and weird:
If this does not work at all just open PC companion > Check for updates > Restore your phone or tablet.
Perhaps this will do..

I get this error when trying to update to latest version. I have a locked boot loader and have the latest stock rom 14.1.G.2.257
specific model: C6903
First an update was detected, then it was downloaded by PC companion, then when it was ready to update, it shuts the phone down and after loading for a few seconds, it shows this error.
Any suggestion how do I fix this
That's not an error, it just is not available for you yet.
Flash a FTF or wait.

That is an error. PC Companion already notified me that my device has an update when I plugged it in, and it already downloaded the update. If you read my whole post you would know. So during the time when PC Companion is supposed to update my phone after downloading the update, it just shows this error. Good thing I was able to solve this on my own.
Solution: (at least what I did)
Uninstall PC Companion
Re-install PC companion (get installer from Sony site)
restarted my PC
plugged my phone to PC
checked for update (via PC companion)
downloaded the update (via pc companion)
and it worked like it normally should...
I hope this helps others with similar problem
Or you can use sus
Had the same problem, called Sony Xperia care center here in Denmark and they told. Me to use sus.
I did that and no problem with that

I just flashed mine right now. You just need Classic Flashtool and this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572195
Run smooth like hell. I testing right now. I love flash and burn my phones.

If I wasnt able to solve this problem through PC Companion, SUS would probably be my next move. btw will SUS delete my files / game saves etc or it will just update my phone just like I used PC companion?
Beat it ....
Its just Your Firewall given you the pain make it off for a while... that's it...

I tried to root my phone and failed. The phone is stuck on trying to boot up. I have tried to download the firmware files and recover but keep getting an error with it. I have no idea what to do from here and feel so stupid for doing this.
Exact model of the phone SM950F/DS. the phone is also unlocked to all networks

..
The firmware you trying to flash is to old. I could bet, you are already on Oreo firmware. That firmware you try to flash is an old nougat firmware with old boatloader. And you can't downgrade the bootloader. That's the reason why the flash process failed.
Use the latest available Oreo firmware for your country.
Edit:
And don't select re-partition in Odin!

Are you using the latest Odin when trying to flash the filmware? (Needed for Oero)
The rooting function properly failed and has locked your device into Downloading Mode. You could try and take your device to a Samsung Service Center. They maybe able to help you.

Sorry everyone I tried to downgrade it not realising it needed to be on 8.0 Oreo, I have got it working now tho
I just installed the emui 9.1 update on my phone but after restarting I'm being notified of the update again. This happens around 5 minutes after restarting following the update being installed. When I install the update again, it "installs" in about 20 seconds before saying the update was successful and reboots. I have tried the installation 3 times now, but I have just set the installation to "later" so I dont get bothered by it again today.
Is there anything I can do to stop this happening?

All very well, but then I won't get notifications about future updates.
It didn't work anyway. I'm still being asked to install the update.
After a bit more investigation, it seems the original update may have been corrupted as I'm getting a message that system files or pre-installed software may have been altered or deleted and that the official update needs to be installed. Except it was the official update. Hisuite doesn't have the option to rollback the software to the previous version. So what can I do to put this right?

Yeah, but I didn't install any of those. I installed the official version through Hisuite.

Thanks but I just get "getting package info failed" when I try that.
Finally sorted. Connected to hisuite again and this time another firmware version (311) was available. So I installed that and when I rebooted there was another 4.7mb patch needed installed. I installed that and everything is back to normal now.
This happens when you install an incorrect firmware version on your phone. The firmware file names may be the same but they are not the same versions.
