How to root .136 FW? - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it any way to root newest .136 FW and also install CWM recovery on top of that, as an quick, current solution until Doomlord releases a kernel with built-in recovery and full root access?

In the same way from the link I posted, NUT method is for LB and UB. Unlocked bootloader is necessary for custom kernels only.

I have tried, OTA cannot update the new firware, can only use PCC to update the new fireware.
I can confirm Voodoo OTA RootKeeper cannot help protect root when u are updating using PCC.
I have Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper and i update from PCC and my root is lost.....

I have tried bin4ry's method and it is confirmed by many users it is not working....
I have also tried motochpper and it is not working too.
But i know that if u unloack bootloader, you are still able to root.. but i just dont want to unlock my BL just yet....
Might need to confirm but I remember that on the arc to root you had to downgrade the kernel, root then re flash updated ed kernel
Needs to be confirmed first
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
My suggestion to preserve root is simple
Download the update.(just d update from the existing firmware)
Creating a .zip file
Modding it so that we don't lose root
Flash that zip through cwm so that we can enjoy updates widout losing root or trying to find new ways of rooting new firmware..

I woul also go with this solution approach..
1. For getting the FTF Files: http://mytechencounters.wordpress.c...eate-an-ftf-file-of-your-xperia-ics-firmware/
2. Then creating a Flashable Zip File: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183077
3. Preroot it..But how to do that?
I am looking for a easier way I didnt install CWM on my XZ...

Madhouse was talking about Locked Bootloader phones, everybody knows how to root any firmware with an unlocked bootloader.
In the Xperia ARC, the procedure was to flash the newest firmware (not-rootable), then flash a previous kernel only (rootable) with flashtool, turn on phone, root it using any exploit available, turn it off, and flash the newest kernel alone with flashtool. Phone rooted and in the latest version.
I don't know, but maybe this method could work as this new firmware is still based on Android 4.1 just like the previous one, so the older, exploiteable, kernel should be able to boot the new firmware.

I already root my phone with this method , just flash old kernel with CWM_Recovery , reboot in recovery , flash root SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE.zip , reboot in flash mode and then flash stock Kernel from 10.1.1.A.1.253 .

AGAIN, this is only possible on unlocked bootloaders. With locked bootloaders, once you update to 10.1.1.A.1.253, you loose root and recovery, so there is no way to do what you are saying. Once updated to .253, the only way to change kernel is via flashtool.

Problem is when you unlock bootloader all data is whiped, and without root you cant make a backup like with titanium backup, so even if they find a root for unlocked bootloader you will loose all data...
So the best would be if they could find a root with locked bootloader, then you could backup all stuff then unlock bootloader

Nothing that would gain you root access.
The only ways to get root are:
* Preserving root from older installations.
* Install recovery and flash SuperSU zip (requires unlocked BL).
* Find an exploit for Android 4.3 that allows you to gain a root shell.
* Flash a custom FTF, not sure if that's possible on a locked BL.

It isn't, the FTF that gain root access have a kernel.sin with ro.secure=0 instead of ro.secure=1
Because the kernel has been changed it needs an unlocked bootloader to flash.
Its basically the same as installing a custom kernel.

1. Unlock your bootloader.
2. Flash DooMLoRD's advanced stock kernel.
3. Flash a superuser zip.
There is currently no way to root with a locked bootloader.
Also, questions belong in the q&a section, not general.

well, in superSU menu, its name is survival mode...which says it will try to keep root permission EVEN in ota. so I guess it's not ONLY for ota.
It won't help when flashing with Flashtool as /system is wiped, so the backup the survival mode makes is wiped also. I've tried before.

I'm using 4.3 with locked bootloader. Do not miss lead people.
You just need a rooted device with recovery option.
There are at least two topic for this.

Nobody is misleading anybody. There is no way to root with a locked bootloader after you have already flashed 4.3.
Flashing a prerooted rom from a previous, already rooted rom with recovery is a different matter and is not what the original question in the OP is asking.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
Unlocking bootloader means, wipe all user data, that means more and more trouble to configure al settings and applications.
Just root your older firmware, install dual recovery, and install stock cwm firmware as mentioned in other topics.
Thats all, you have proper rooted and updated versions.

The OP is obviously on 4.3 already.
Downgrading to an older firmware usually requires that you wipe /data anyway.
The OP didn't ask how to upgrade and keep root. They asked how to root 4.3, therefore my original post is currently the only correct answer to the question in the first post.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
So, lets make a conclusion here.
1- if you have already upgraded to 4.3 you have 2 choices; unlock bootloader and use doomlord kernel, OR downgrade to 4.2.2 and go to part 2.
2- if you have not upgraded to 4.3 yet, you can use a pre-rooted stock 4.3 rom (link of them can be found in this thread) and flash it using recovery and flashtool.
Sent from my C6602 using Tapatalk
If you haven't upgraded, there's a third option. Backing up of the TA partition, flashing new firmware either from ftf, Seus or PCC and then unlocking bootloader, temporarily flashing custom kernel, rooting, flashing stock kernel again and relocking bootloader via TA partition restore.
Takes more time, but its the cleanest way to have 4.3 with root I think.

Or you can wait for OTA release and turn on survival mode of superSU. As SuperSU says, it's NOT guaranteed that root permission will be kept. But if you have patience to wait for OTA release, it worth trying.

Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app
Installing any pre rooted rom requires a recovery which means the user has to have had a rooted device in the first place with a recovery installed. Even if root is lost and a recovery exists a pre rooted rom can be flashed. The links provided above are perfectly fine.

You have 2 options
A . stay away from boot loader (0 Risk):
1- backup your SD data & All SD contents to your computer ( I Think it is not that hard)
2-Flash 4.2.2 with flash tool
3-Root on locked boot loader follow instructions here
4- Install Dual Recovery follow HERE
5- Install 4.3 Pre-rooted from here
****************
Option B.(not recommended if you have not enough experience )
1-Back TA (boot loader ) Here
2-Unlock boot loader Here
3- Root using this method HERE
4-Flash 4.3 pure stock Kernel (Kernel only )
5- Restore your TA (lock boot loader again with all benefits )
