Hey guys!
The title explains my problem but here're the details. Whenever I turn off the screen there's no problem, power butto works but when I try to turn on the screen it doesn't work -sometimes- and sometimes it works. When it doesn't work I just use my USB cable and connect to computer so screen turns on. I realised it caused by stamina mode as when I charge the phone it always works flawlesly (cause charging turns off stamina mode). I contacted with Sony and they told me to use PC Companion and make a reset SUPRISE! I didn't do it, yet. And I couldn't find stamina mode app in Settings>Apps>All is there a different name? Maybe deleting cache and data helps..Any suggestions?
Make sure the proximity sensor isn't covered with anything.
When stamina mode is on, it prevents the phone waking up when the proximity sensor is activated.

lol man, I had no idea this was caused by stamina. It's kind of an annoying behavior, I wish it could be disabled.
Regarding the screen not turn off issue. I've always had stamina on. But also had the occasional screen-wont-turn-on issue. Mainly with a custom kernel, though, XzKernel mainly. I don't assume OP has a custom kernel but maybe all my "screen-wont-turn-on" issues have been stamina related?!

Proximity sensor? Seriously? I didn't know that. However, for a couple of times I can assume that it was caused by that but I don't cover the sensor all the time, so I don't think it's the reason.

It was just luck, I discoverd while I was charging it. Now I turned of Stamina which SUCKS it really help to keep battery more :crying: I use original ROM and after 4.3 update I didn't even root it, so it's prefectly pure..I've no idea how can I solve this without resetting the phone via PC Comp.

My GF and I are very annoyed at this problem. When you tilt the phone on it's side, lik eholding it with your shoulder the phone will turn on. It just so happens that your phone's mute button will be on your cheek and we mute each other.
Is there anyway to stop this? Thank you guys in advance.
Are u sure u are not "uncovering" the light proximity sensor when u tilt it. Its very sensitive, and I have noticed it get turned on when the phone gets an inch or more away from ear exposing the light sensor to any form of light.
While on the phone with my girlfriend at night this happens a lot. Because it is so dark, any movement I do will cause the screen to turn on and I have to hit the button to turn it off.
Just try vto keep it glued to your face :/

Yeah I'm sure. The feature is suppose to be for when you set the phone on your desktop the screen will turn on so you can hit speaker or end the call.

Umm simple work around, get something opaque and stick it over the light sensor with something that won't leave a residue so you can take it off when your call is over?
obviously some people fail to understand how this works. there is a light sensor for screen brightness and a proximity sensor. it is the proximity sensor that detects your face and turns off the screen. the light sensor is not involved in this process. what is happening is that the i9000 roms have default android 2.2 settings that force the proximity sensor to be ignored in certain orientations, i dont know about the new att updates but the 2.1 roms had the overrided from samsung. i tried to fix it in tasker but tasker lacks the option to power off the screen, it can go to lock screen instead which may be acceptable for some. there may be a different way to do this in tasker but i need to experiment more.
there is no external workaround for this as it is not the proximity sensor being uncovered that causes most problems but the phones orientation. any workaround or fix must be done with software or a change in a file somewhere.
I am sorry, and have been humbled •_•

This is correct. In simple terms the orientation sensor takes presidence over the proximity sensor. So if you turn the phone on its back while on the phone, the screen will turn on.
There are no fixes for it that I'm aware of.
How abt keeping auto-rotation off all the time, and turning it on only when needed, as a work around?

It's not linked to auto-rotation unfortunately, Its just something that we have to live with.
Man... wish there could be one but sounds like there can't be.

This started happening about two weeks ago. During a call when I pulled the phone away from my face in order to press the end call button, the screen did to wake up. I could not end the call. This has been happening quite regularly now. The screen simply does not turn on after or during a call. Even if the other person ends the call from his side, the screen on my phone does not start.
I was using the stable version of the official CM7 at that time so I flashed the rom again. Since that did not work, I did a clean installation of Mebitek's CM7 without restoring any backups. But I am still having the problem. I am now using the power button to end the call like a handicap person would.
I think something might be wrong with the proximity sensor or my battery. Since, I have absolutely no expertise of how the phone functions, I seek help from you guys. Please give me some suggestions.
try changing the proximity delay

Do u use a screen protector? I heard some might cause problems with proximity sensor.
Screen protector and wakelock

I used to have this same problem. The problem seems to be a combination of the screen protector/case getting in the way of the ambient light sensor and therefore not allowing the phone to accurately measure ambient light, and the phone going into some sort of sleep mode. I usually wipe my ambient light sensor off, and adjust my silicone case to allow the light to come in, but the thing that solved the problem for me permenantly was running the small app called wakelock to keep the system from going into complete standby. I am sure that this solution affects battery life, but I still get 10-12 hours between charges which is enough for me.
This thread talks about a similar problem, and this is where I got the idea to try this fix for our problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491223

No no no guys.. don't bother with reflashing and stuff, that's not the problem.. I had the same problem and I googled it for months until I've learned its a Samsung wifi hardware related problem and mostly Galaxy devices are affected. Something is wrong when phone goes in standby. It continues to work but you can't wake it and you have to reinsert battery to get it on again.
The solution is to install a tiny app called Wake Lock, it's there on market.. it keeps phone awake even when you lock screen. My phone doesn't shut off anymore and I can finally rely on it. I don't have to think anymore and check all the time if the phone is off and if I'm going to miss a call...
The alternative is to turn off wifi before you lock screen but I think that most of us need wifi on all the time to get mails and messages on time

I am of course mistaken. It is the proximity sensor that is malfunctioning due to the screen protector and case.

Hi Guyz,
My friend dropped his nexus one on the floor and from then on he is facing a weird problem. When he receives a call, when the sensor is turned on, the screen never comes back and it remains black. The only option is to pull out the battery and i suppose the drop has made proximity sensor faulty. He is not a rooted user. Is there any menthod to disable proximity sensor without rooting ? If not how can i fix it after rooting ? Any build.prop changes ?
Thanks,
karthik

hey Karthikus , I know this is not a new post, I would like to know if you solved your friends's problem, I have exactly the same, I used a couple of apps to disable the proximity sensor but still no luck, by the way I have the cyanogen mod 7 in my nexus now. the phone is a beauty, but its kinda annoying to have to remove the battery after a few calls, also I'm using a bluetooth headset, wich kinda minimizes the problem, but still not happy. please let me know , or not, I'm planning to build a disable sensors app myself in case I can't fixit. oh, and I tried all the other solutions I could find in google, like cleaning the sensors, (I dismantled the phone already) and enabling other ways to bring the screen up using other methods like trackball press or menu press. no way, still there. so please let me know. if still relevant.
thank you.
Hey on my Xperia Z stock rom nothing flashed, when it is in standby (screen off) randomly the screen glows and does not stop, like the screen is still off but it's like the back light has come on? is this normal? seems to be a power wasting thing to me. unless i look at it from a slight angel (during the day) i can not actually tell it's on, i'm assuming this is why my screen is using 60+% of my battery is there a fix for this?

Stamina mode.
I have the exact same thing happen, and it is definitely a pain as like you say you can only notice it when looking at an angle, and as I have a flip case on mine I only notice while charging. It is just a case of pressing the power button twice to turn off but that is obviously only when you notice it's doing it! lol
I use stamina mode on mine (which is great) but not sure if this is anything to do with the backlight being left on as it only does it sometimes?
I had this issue when i first got my phone ,and not anymore. Not sure how it solved cause i did lot of factory reset and flashing firmwares.
Are you using light flow or any third party apps?

I get this too. I get it when it's locked and it comes back on. Also when I unlock the screen sometimes this happens and I have to turn the screen off and on again to fix it.
Happening here also but not often. I thought it was low battery mode but happens when it's disabled as well.

No i'm not using any third party light apps, seems like this may be an actual bug if multiple people are experiencing it
I have only done one reset/repair to fix the LED notification light bug.
Hope this helps
I know how to fix this. I have an xperia z1 so im not sure if my problem is the same but i use my phone as an alarm so i notice at night the screen is glowing while its standby. If you go to settings or maybe you have it in quick settings go to brightness and deactivate "adapt to lighting conditions" then it should be a black screen woth no glow in standby mode
My LED only flashes white when the phone is locked. I have my Whatsapp LED set to red for incoming messages, yet it only blinks White when my phone is locked and I receive a msg. when it's unlocked, it blinks Red as it should.
Is this normal behavior ? it's the first time i see it...
My WhatsApp is set to green and the phones flashed green whille locked...

As far as i know, it's normal behaviour due to STAMINA MODE. Try it, without STAMINA MODE and it should blink with the color you set in Whatsapp.

Thank you. Deactivating stamina mode took care of it. My battery life wil decrease though, there's no way for it to work with stamina mode enabled?

For now there seems to be no other solution. Even trying to use third party apps to control LED Light&Colors (available at the play store) seem to fail, to withstand the STAMINA MODE, putting them on the whitelist won't help neither
You can use Greenify instead of STAMINA MODE. If you are rooted it will work automatically otherwise manually.

What is it with Sony and the LED?! hahaha seems like they think it consumes lots of power, it's just a tiny led! on the Xperia Z it didn't flash at all when Stamina was activated.
