not 100% sure but if you do factory Reset you will have to reinstall SuperSU from the market place and then grab root checker and see.
i think it will because i have done it before but my bootloader was unlocked.
Thanks. This is what I suspected. I will find out for sure tomorrow night when my new Dev edition shows up and I reset thus phone. I guess as long as write protection is not reenabled, it should be no problem reinstalling supersu.

the issue is not with reinstalling SUPERSU the issues is if SlapMyMoto sticks or not. you can install SUPERSU on a device that is not rooted at all it just wont install the binaries
That's true. As long as write protection is still of , I would not have to flash back to 4.2.2 and start over. Slapping again is not too bad.

i think you would still have to flash back to 4.2.2 Post Camera Update because there is a couple commands that you need to run before you update to 4.4
Well , the slapmymoto root method will survive a data reset. All I had to do was reinstall SuperSU from the play store and all is well .

Yes you must be on the Jellybean leak, rooted, with Safestrap 3.0 installed.
Well I rebooted without wiping data or cache and now my phone won't boot.
Cannot enter SS3 either..
So this is a must, not a suggestion.

For you it was a must, in my other experience it's a suggestion. Always wipe if unsure. I will note this in the OP, however.

Will definitely try it over the weekend .
Did everything like the op said and ended up in a boot loop.So i had to go to ap fastboot and use the utility 1.0 to go back to stock and start over. Not sure what went wrong. Will try again and see what happens.
Hey matt. Nice ROM... it looks really cool. Thanks.
For ppl with unlocked BL are the steps the same. Mine is a bell model and cant update to the leaked jellybean. Also do i need safestrap?

I'm a giddy lil' b#!&h for this! I can't wait to get the time to figure all of this out and get this GORGEOUS ROM runnin! Thanks Matt and Sirhoover for all your work and testing!

Well you can go to leaked Jellybean for AT&T if you are boot loader unlocked... You flash system and boot.IMG from ATT 77.12.22 then boot to stock recovery and install the jellybean leak after the normal root procedure ( root, ota root keeper, etc) see the threads for those Also might need to wipe data when flashing att files or boot loop.

Yesterday, Verizon approved Jelly Bean for the DROID 4 as build 98.72.18, but as is typical, Motorola sent the first wave of updates out to members of their feedback network (soak testers) this morning. And since that happened, the file has been pulled and made available to everyone with the device.
We have instructions for you below, so if you do not feel like waiting for the update to be pushed to your device, feel free to jump below.
The official changelog can be found here. here
Instructions:
*These are the instructions from the RAZR HD update, but they should work for the DROID 4 as well.
*You have to be running the official Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0.4) update of build 6.16.217. You also have to be completely stock.
1. Download the update file here: here
2. Drop that file on your SD card, not internal storage.
3. Turn phone off, and reboot into recovery.
*Hold both Volume Up and Down along with Power until you see the boot menu. Use Volume Down to hover over “Recovery.” Press Volume Up to select it.
*Once you see the Android and Exclamation point, press both Volume Up and Down at the same time.
4. Select “apply update from external storage.”
*Use Volume keys to highlight, Power button to select.
5. Then select the file you downloaded from above. It should already be on your SD card.
6. Watch as the update applies.
7. Once finished, choose the “reboot” option and enjoy!
DON'T FORGET TO SAY THANKS!

So do I need to De-root and remove safestrap before installing this, or can I just install and then root this?

Safeboot and restore complete stock ICS. Don't worry about losing root. RAZR blade method is confirmed to work. Unless u have no access to PC then yes backup root with voodoo only if u are using super user latest binary. Restore root after jb update.

Sorry for spamming on this topic, but just tried to install this after disabling safestrap and done factory reset.
got to recovery and chose the file, it started install but then gave error
"Assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/bin/logwrapper", "aHASHCODE" ,"ANOTHER HASHCODE")
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip

Installation aborted."
EDIT: OK I have to flash it completely stock with RSDlite and clean package, just downloading it..
EDIT2: Just installing this update, clean ICS with RSDlite helped

Is it possible to revert to the OEM 4.0.4 (6.16.217) firmware via the existing SBF?
Just curious, I haven't made the jump to JB yet.

Like rruleford said the only way to totally wipe/flash the entire phone would be to wait for the xml fastboot files. What you COULD try is placing the JB OTA update on your external sd card, then booting into stock recovery, wiping data and cache, and then re-flashing the update manually. It should be able to flash over top of itself just fine. Not sure if it would fix anything but might be worth a shot.

Got a problem here... Wanted to ota to 4.4 in my rooted, s-off on stock rom.
Flashed stock recovery and downloaded the Ota but it turns to red triangle as its installing.
My question is would this be happening due to having Xposed framework and having Flashed some zips for ad blocking and such? Any feedback is much appreciated!
Also, if that is the issue, would flashing an old backup work if that was prior to using Xposed and such?
Please help! Thanks!

Maybe. The ota might check what's in the system partitions such as apps and such and if there's anything that usually isn't there when the phone is stock it might not update. I asked on the Verizon forum if it's possible to update after deleting some system apps and they said no but I've never tried it.

I eventually was able to update. I restored a backup I did before root, right after unlocking bootloader.
also, I used an old stock recovery. I found the most recent stock recovery and used that and it worked. so still unsure what exactly caused my problems but using the latest stock recovery and using unmodified stock rooted rom worked.
thanks for the response though, much appreciated. definitely soft bricked my phone few times before getting it done. phew...

Can you get into the bootloader (hold power + volume down)? If so, you'll probably need to reflash the stock recovery before the update will install.
Thanks, after I stopped panicking and calmed down I was able to flash Stock Recovery and then the next reboot caused the standard update to work. Kind of surprised really, still rooted etc.
Right now phone is working but Wi-Fi indicator is not lit, even though it is using the wi-fi.

Well you have the dev edition, they aren't going to take root from you. Don't know what's up with your wifi, though. When I updated I ended up having to restore a backup and updating again because of several extremely strange problems.

I have a xt1053 bootloader unlocked and rooted with towelroot with Stock Recovery. Can I factory reset safely? Thank you in advance.
If your bootloader is unlocked, there is no need to use TowelRoot, PIE, or TowelPIE root. Just flash TWRP recovery, and root.
But yes, you can safely factory reset your phone if you have stock recovery already on it.
If you are using TWRP, CWM, or other custom recovery, it is suggeted you boot into the custom recovery to "Wipe" from there, rather than using the phone's menu option for Factory Reset
@KidJoe so regardless of root status it is safe? Phew because if it wasn't I was just going to flash twrp and start flashing away. But I wasn't quite ready to start flashing roms. I just barely got around to unlocking the bootloader

Because of how TowelRoot and PIE work, yes, its safe. Their changes are lost at power off/on anyway. A factory reset would then clear away any files they might leave on /data or such.
If you were trying to "undo" SlapMyMoto/MotoWpNoMo, then I'd suggest flashing stock rom (with data wipe) in addition to factory reset, then flash TWRP and root.
@KidJoe Before unlocking BL the towelroot would be lost on reboot. Since unlocking the BL root sticks on reboot.

If that is true, then I would definitely flash the stock SBF for the Android/ROM version on your phone to completely remove it.
I don't know anyone really using Towel or PIE with an unlocked bootloader (write protect disabled), and I don't know enough about what Towel does to say if what is left over might get in the way... so to be safe... re-flash your phone. BUT be careful to use only the rom version already on your phone, and do NOT DOWNGRADE.

As long as you have 4.4.3 on your phone now, sure.
GO to App Drawer -> Settings -> About Phone. the SYSTEM VERSION should match the description of the file you download from http://sbf.droid-developers.org/
so if your system version is 212.44.21.ghost.xxxx then that is the right file

How is your phone in a state of disarray? Unlocked, running PIE should be fine. Are you experiencing some problem?
If you factory reset and you get into troubles, its not going to brick your phone to the point where you have to send it in for warranty.
If you have mFastboot, the Android SDK/PlatformTools/ADB, and the right drivers on your PC, you could flash just system.img in a matter of minutes. A complete flash of all parts in the SBF zip file (one operation at a time) can be flashed via mfastboot in less than 15 minutes.
If you want to wait until you get home, you can use RSDLite which is a little easier to flash (it does all parts, one at a time) for you. No typing.
Just in case anyone is on the same boat. All I did was unroot in SuperSU and did a factory reset. No issues.
