Hi,
I've found a way to stream XBMC from the computer through Chromecast using Avia Player to the TV. It seems a little complicated but it's really not. You can either use the Instructions below or watch the Tutorial Video from You Tube. http://youtu.be/NCgP0r5Dvp8
Step 1. Download and Install Blue Stacks at http://www.bluestacks.com/
Step 2. Download XMBC XAF version with External Player and Install it. It will not work without this special version.
XAF Link - http://www.xbmcandroid.com/2013/05/...-xaf-custom-build-of-xbmc-for-android-is-out/
Download and InstallXMBC XAF Custom Build for NON-NEON Touch Screen Devices
It downloads with an extension of .zip. It wouldn't install so I changed the extension from .zip to .apk and then it installed with no problems.
Important: Before continuing, you need to run xbmc once immediately after installing in order
to create the .xbmc folder preceding /userdata in the following path. Android/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/.xbmc/userdata/
Step 3. Start Blue Stacks and download File Manager from the Playstore within Blue Stacks.
Step 4. Download playercorefactory.xml at http://www.mediafire.com/view/a3y3byisq12wksj/playercorefactory.xml
Save playercorefactory.xml to C:\ProgramData\BlueStacks\UserData\SharedFolder\
Open File Manager in Blue Stacks. Go to
Home/bstfolder/BstSharedFolder/Playercorefactory.xml
Click Multi, highlight the playercorefactory.xml and then hit Move
Paste playercorefactory.xml to
Android/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/.xbmc/userdata/
Step 5. Download Avia Player from the Google Playstore within BlueStacks for free. You will need to go into Settings of the Avia Player and unlock the Chromecast Add-on for $2.99.
Step 6. Start Chromecast
Start XBMC - Start your show- Click the Cast Button and it automatically finds Avia Player and casts from the computer to the Big Screen.
Are you able to add own repositories in this custom version?I don't see an option to add video add on from zip
Sent from my GT-I9505G using xda app-developers app
Aamir, you can just change the skin to confluence in appearances. You should now be allowed to install from zip just like on the PC.
Silly question, but for my macbook how do I get the .apk xbmc file to install?
I'm trying to upload it into bluestacks via dropbox, but that seems more complicated than necessary.
Thanks!
I am confused with this. I been looking everywhere to get my answer. I already have xbmc installed on my PC. How do I get my XBMC thats installed on my C drive not bluestacks to cast to chromecast?

Not possible yet and when I suggested this feature over at XBMC I got the lame answer
"We already support DLNA and UPnP why do we need to support yet another protocol...."
I do believe there are some XBMC apps that will let you send to DLNA targets so I suppose once someone creates an app that will make CCast into a DLNA target or Google adds a DLNA Renderer to the default screen you won't see this functionality from the XBMC crew.
Although Maybe Gotham release (whenever that happens) will change things.

Hi,
It's easy to watch Xbmc Channels in your Chromecast Browser. You just need the Google Cast Extension and the correct playercorefactoryfile.xml. I made a video with detailed instructions and it's really simple. Type the following in either Youtube or Google and it will take you to the video. You can even watch live sports this way.

I'm not entirely sure (I have Blue Stacks but not XBMC installed).
I'm uncertain how much of the PC file system is exposed to BStacks or XBMC because I was under the impression that BStacks was running more as a VM machine as opposed to a native program with direct access to the filesystem (That may be a technically inaccurate description on my part)
If it does see everything the PC can see then I suspect it would be seen from XBMC and not BStacks specifically because I don't see any way to map PC drives in BStacks other than the normal Apps you would use on Android for SMB Mapping.
I don't have an Android folder in BlueStacks...
You are saying you downloaded the file manager and you have no android folder?
Regular XBMC on PC and Yatse on your phone/tablet is a great combo. Yatse has a cast plugin to send media from XBMC to your Chromecast.

Channels (last I checked) do not currently work and I would suspect that the PVR aspects of XBMC might not either.
Might work to Android local but not to CCast unless of course that content is served in a CCast compatible format. I do not have a PVR setup either so I can not confirm or deny either way what it does.
I did not see any mention of PVR in the app when I tested it.

How to Connect to Chromecast Dongle from within Bluestacks?
Could the OP or anyone else please explain how to get Chromecast compatible apps to work from within Bluestacks? Does this XBMC process (particularly Steps 6-7.) not rely on the Chromecast android app to connect? Whenever I launch the Chromecast app within Bluestacks it can't find my Chromecast dongle even though both devices are on the same network. Is there another way to get apps like XBMC, HBOGO etc to recognize the Chromecast on the network and show the cast button in the apps? I'd like to use Bluestacks to cast from compatible apps but I'm not seeing how this is possible without being able first to connect the Chromecast app to the dongle. Thanks in advance for any help folks can provide.

I'm in the same boat, I am trying to get the BT Sport app to cast from Bluestack. I think it's because a virtual network. Hope there is a work around. This is for my Dad who doesn't have a smart phone, and BT of course don't have a cast option from the website, unlike everyone else. Shoddy BT.

Hi Asphy,
I was wondering if you can give me a hint to solve my problem.
I'm able to cast my XBMC 13.2 Gotham to TV using both AVIA and LocalCast apps. I use single playercorefactory.xml file in XBMC's user data directory, and every time I wanna switch between the two apps (Avia or LocalCast) I just open up the playercorefactory.xml file and change the following line at the end of the code:
for Avia
<rule video="true" player="Avia"/>
for LcalCast
<rule video="true" player="LocalCast"/>
So, I was wondering if there is anyway to get the option to choose between the two apps inside XBMC, so I dont need to change the XML file every time I want to switch between the two apps. I tried long pressing on the links in XBMC to see if "play using" menu pops out... but this didn't work.
Thanks for your help in advance.

So you want to use your desktop computer as a Chromecast?
I don't know of anything other than CR Cast. If it was an Android desktop then you could use CheapCast. I'm not sure whether CheapCast will work with the BlueStacks App Player. Let us know if you try it.
There is also LeapCast, but it's quite annoying to set up.
It needs you to compile it in Python 2.7.5 (don't install the newest).
https://github.com/dz0ny/leapcast
For some reason, I failed to run it.
If you succeed, please let me know how you did it.
I thought that the V2 Cast SDK required some hardware keys that aren't available outside, so it broke the software-based Chromecast emulators.

I found this new tool that claims to support cast v2 screen mirroring feature. It is available for both Windows and Mac.

By enabling network settings and windows media player, you can use apps (avia, localcast or allcast) to cast to your desktop.
Allcast also has a chrome extension allcast receiver that only works with allcast.
Sounds to me (maybe I'm misreading it) that what he wants is the ability to Mirror to a PC as opposed to a CCast.
Would you like to stream XBMC through Avia to Chromecast?
Put this https://www.dropbox.com/s/d8pl1adtlo8rp90/playercorefactory.xml in sdcard/android/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/userdata
Now Avia is the player allowing you to chromecast.

Wow thanks, worked perfectly. Just a note, I had to clear the cache for my xbmc app to get it to load first.
Can't get it to work.. any more details on how to make it work?
What your doing with XBMC is not all that different than what you do with aVia using Plex...
The difference is XBMC has no transcoding capability on it's DLNA server so if the files are not CCast compatible you may run into some issues with those.
It will work as will any DLNA server you could be running.
Can u tell me step by step to cast from xbmc app ?
I have xbmc app in my Nexus 4.
Oh I was using 1channel and streaming I guess that don't work.
Yeah, thanks for this, but how do I get xbmc to stream to cc? I have this file in where you said, and i have cleared cache for both avia and xbmc, but I see no cc button in xbmc or anything like that. how do I get all 3 to see each other?

You don't stream it from XBMC you are just routing it through aVia....
It would seem that all your doing is adding player profiles to XBMC (android) which may make it work or be seen by aVia.
Ya I installed like u said but still not sure how to stream.
All I did too get this to work was follow the first post, cleared caches and rebooted my S4. I launched xbmc and When I picked what I wanted to watch avia launched and I hit the cast button. All was good depending on what file type the show in.
Does this simply play local media through XBMC or will it play add on channels also?

I couldn't get this to work with the build from official XBMC site, but is working well with XAF build from here.

If installing XAF build you will need to uninstall official build first as it is signed differently (you can back up with XBMC Backup).

Many of those channels use streaming methods that are incompatible with CCast at this point in time. It's a good bet that if the streams require an external player ext in Chrome to play, they will not work on the CCast since it has no ability to add extensions to it's limited Chrome implementation.
Many of those channels are available freely on the web and may even be made available in Real Player as channels. (Not sure I don't have Real Player installed) so that might be the way to see that content on CCast.
Unfortunately it is not likely that something like Plex that has transcoding will be able to transcode those files due to the fact that they are streams and not files and Transcoders don't like to wait around for input.
Me personally while I like the channel capabilities in XBMC and Plex I would much rather the content providers support CCast in their own Apps which most have available because then when they change their system for storage their App will change to reflect that as opposed to jst stop working which is common with Channels on Plex and XBMC,
OH and for the record I'm not sure but it seems very likely that the OP was referring to XBMC for Android not XBMC for other Operating systems as far as local content is concerned.
And while it may be true the fact is aVia should be able to see the same files XBMC Android can see on the device and since XBMC does not transcode at all you really not gaining anything other than the importing of the XBMC library to make navigation easier.

It's interesting that almost all the Plex streaming channels work with a Roku box as the client player, but none of them work with the Chromecast. Perhaps Roku does something substantially different, perhaps it's just a matter of testing and debugging (Roku is the #1 client for Plex), or perhaps Google has no intention of allowing Plex channels on the CC.

I don't find it all that interesting...Roku is a much more robust box than Chromecast is. It doesn't rely on a single browser for everything the way CCast does.
CCast is not meant as another version of Roku, It is another version of Miracast and if you look it in that way you see Chromecast is far superior to what it is competing with.
and truth is as recently as a year ago Roku didn't even support DLNA at all....
It took a 3rd Party developer to create an APP that would see and play DLNA content.

Don't have any real data to prove it, but it seems like Plex tries to route the external stream through the server to your device and then to Chromecast. I managed to start a couple of streams (out of about 20 that I tried) through Plex and unsupported channels, but XBMC was perfect every time providing Chromecast supports the format and the stream was available on the third party site. I mainly wanted and was playing around with XBMC on Android to be able to watch the stuff from some of the channels, but vGET just "killed" that fun for me, working perfectly so far for everything I tried.
When searching through sdcard/android/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/userdata. I couldn't find the userdata folder so I created one. Tried to place the file into it and no luck, even tried placing it in the /files folder. I'm testing this on my HP touchpad jellybean 4.3

I believe (and I'm guessing) Plex is (as far as channels are concerned) is trying to do what aVia currently does with content only instead of the player acting as the middleman Plex tries to use the server.
But I don't believe it is transcoding as much as merely stripping the feed from the source web it came from and sending you just the video stream part.
Same here. Çant find the user data file.

Well I have had a Chromecast for some time now. I have been lurking for some time now but can't quite figure out what is the best solution for me.
Here is what I am looking to do.. I have quite a few workout dvd's that the Wife and I use, Yoga and the such. I want to eliminate the need to use the dvd player... my goal is to have everything ripped to my desktop, then use my phone to control what is displayed on the chromecast? especially since i have multiple chromecasts.....I just can't figure out what combination of apps I need to accomplish it... I have used ALLCast but the video will mess up during streaming... (Galaxy S3)
I am assuming I need some sort of media server service running on my desktop..(Plex?)
Any thoughts or suggestions would be great!

Rip the DVDs to MP4 files on your computer using some video tool like Handbrake. Enable the DLNA server function in Windows if you haven't already, and add your video folder as one of the shared media folders. Install BubbleUPnP on your Android phone. Select your computer as the source, Chromecast as the destination. Select your desired video and cast it to the Chromecast, controlling it with BubbleUPnP.
Plex is certainly an alternative, but you would have to install and set up Plex Media Server on your computer, and currently you have to pay $4/month for Plex Pass to use Plex with the Chromecast. For what you want to do the above combination is simpler and free.
@DJames1 hit it on the head.
Since I have multiple players, I'm waiting for My Movies to release Chromecast support, but I suspect it might be a while...

Only thing I would quibble with is I'm not sure the Windows Media DLNA is a very good option but it is free and requires no installation.
Bubble requires SOME DLNA server since it does not have this function built in yet and instead aggregates media from other sources.
Something I suspect Bubble will soon add to it's arsenal!
You can also browse files in the chrome browser, such as your movie folder. And simply cast from that. Works instantly, easily, casts in the same quality the file is in, and requires no additional software or set up.
For instance, my data drive is F, I just browse to file:///F:/ on chrome, select my movies folder and start the video then cast from the browser.
^^ That's tab-casting. While it works as long as your computer is fast enough, it has several issues compared to the recommended solution:
1. It puts a heavier workload on your PC due to Google's rather inefficient tab-casting code.
2. Even with a high-performance PC, the video tends to stutter a little when tab-casting.
3. It has to be controlled from the PC. The OP said that he has an Android phone he wants to use as the controller.
If the OP were interested in trying streaming from Chrome, he would be better off to use the newly-renamed Videostream extension for Chrome mentioned in another thread here. It offers much smoother performance than tab-casting.
I use serviio on my computer and Avia on my devices. Works great.
I use Logitech Media Server with avia and it works perfectly...
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
^^ Also good solutions, but Avia isn't quite free, and they would require the OP to install a new media server on his PC.

Plex is probably the easiest option but it currently requires PlexPass subscription as it's still getting the kinks worked out.
Sent from a device with no keyboard. Please forgive typos, they may not be my own.
You could use any DLNA server that runs on Mac along with BubbleUPnP as the controller on Android. I would probably choose Serviio.

Agreed Windows Media Server sucks. Install the free BubbleUPnP Server side app on your PC. Pay for the pro license of BubbleUPnP on Android and not only can you stream your PC media to Chromecast but you can stream through your PS3 and you can remotely watch all of your videos on your Android device or anyone else's media server in the world

y2cast is released.
You could download it from google play store.
y2cast is a DLNA/UPnP media render, which could forward media to chromecast.
You could push media from iphone/ipad, android phone/pad, PC (windows, linux, mac) etc to y2cast.
e.g.: wondershare, moliplayer, pptv, kuaishou, targetv.
Keyword: chromecast, googlecast, DLNA, UPnP
User guide:
code.google.com/p/y2cast
1. Select your chromecast.
2. Press "Home", go to your video APP, e.g.: wondershare, moliplayer, pptv, kuaishou, targetv.
3. Play a video in your video APP.
4. Select "Push" in your video APP.
5. Select y2cast as DLNA/UPnP render.
6. Done.
You could cast local media, LAN, online video to y2cast, then to chromecast.
y2cast could let xbmc cast to chromecast too:
http://www.xbmchub.com/forums/threa...oid(Y2Cast-amp-Moliplayer)-to-Chromecast-Free!
http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.liby2cast.app
Thanks I'll check this out when I get home.
making CCast a DLNA Renderer is one of the things I always thought CCast should do but doesn't.
It should really do it as part of the default home page as Google insists on a 5 Min receiver app timeout if idle.
I'm assuming that timeout is present and if you don't select media within that time frame we will have to re-activate the renderer app?
Or have you found some way around that on the sending side instead?
Neat idea! I'd like to see a PC app/service that could present a DLNA renderer for every Chromecast on the network and do transcoding. I'd rather not use up my batt on the phone and a universal dlna->chromecast mapper running on a fast PC would be sweet!

Actually, y2cast is only a render (DMR), not a player (DMP).
After you push media to y2cast, y2cast will forward media to chromecast.
chromecast will get the link of media, and starts to play it.
After chromecast started to play it, you could even quit y2cast.
Media file will keep playing on chromecast since chromecast already gets the link.
If you want to push a new media or control playback (pause/seek), you could run y2cast again.
After connected y2cast to chromecast, you could pause/seek the media which is still playing.
heres a dropbox link for them in a zip file.
its 172 files. not sure what happened with my chrome extension but i got them, probably with duplicates. I'm too lazy to sift through them though

I think it should be noted that this requires using a player app that can target DLNA Renderers.
I do not believe MX Player supports that feature.
Hi,
To push from an Ipad, you have to first start the y2cast program from an Android phone. So, why wouldn't you just also push from the Android phone instead of the Ipad. Am I missing something or is an Ipad version of y2cast coming where you wouldn't need the Android phone? Or would this work with 2 Chromecasts at the same time once you started y2cast, one for the phone and one from the Ipad?
Thanks
Think about this case:
You have an Android phone, your wife has a ipad.
She'd like to use ipad to push media file to chromecase, not operate on your Android phone, right?
Hi Again,
I was trying to get this working on my computer without a phone using Bluestacks, an android emulator. It works the same as on the phone except the cast button doesn't show up on Y2Cast. Is there any way to get the cast button to show up that you know of or is it not possible.
Thanks
I do not try bluestacks, but please make sure y2cast and chromecast is under the same LAN, otherwise, it could not find chromecast.
it seems bluestacks has different IP address, and it could not be changed.

Depends on what people are watching. Because not all apps on Ipad are available on Android and vice versa. Or you may prefer how smoothly certain apps run on Ipad versus Android, or vice versa. I've tested it from our Ipad Air and I think it's brilliant.
Yes, it would be nice and tidy if y2cast was available for IOS. But this is a very cool work-around. Keep in mind you're still relegated to using apps that support DLNA. What would make y2cast even cooler is if it supported Airplay. Because I also tested apps on the Ipad that only support Airplay and the Airplay button was grayed out. I was hoping for some miracle that it would allow me to Airplay to y2cast. LOL! But it can't. You need DLNA supported apps.
The seekbar is definatelt smoother than allcast, shows the timer changing but the seek head returns to the beginning

All cast .avi video support from my android
I'm finding that I can't cast .avi files with Allcast or this app. Will there be any support? Mp4 files are the only video types I see. Further more, I've tried a lot of other cast apps for .avi files on my android nexus 7 and they just give a black screen and broken audio. Anyone had any success? Do tell!
Thanks.
Firstly, I have sincerely looked everywhere for an answer to my issues. I've spent the last 2 weeks trying to get this working and I just keep hitting brick walls. For the record, the chromecast works fine with the youtube app etc. I'm casting from my 2013 nexus 7.
Firstly, there's the apps I've tried. Allcast, BubbleUPnP, LocalCast. Secondly, there's the media servers. I've tried PS3 media server, plex, and serviio (win2008 r2 x64).
From memory, the story goes like this. Installed PMS. AllCast stuttered. Localcast either didn't work or stuttered.
Next, tried plex. AllCast couldn't see the server (just says 'loading'). Although, once, it could see the server. Played an MKV and got video with no sound. Tried modifying the generic.xml profile so it was like the chromecast.xml profile, restarted, and once again AllCast couldn't see the server. Tried restarting the server again (after replacing original generic.xml profile), and the nexus 7, still just says 'loading'.
Using LocalCast, I played several MKVs - video, but no sound.
Next, tried Serviio. Couldn't see that server in any of the apps.
Tried PMS again. AllCast still can't see any servers (still just says 'loading'). Created a Chromecast profile in PMS. When I play a video (mkv, avi, mp4) in PMS, the log says the video starts to play, then 5 seconds later it says it stops.
Tried BubbleUPnP. When I send the video from PMS to any video player, the video player either crashes, or just says it can't play the file.
Has anyone actually got a successful setup going with a media server and casting from an app? At this point I'm willing to try anything!
I use plex and there isn't a problem at all. Must be a network issue.
Edit: first suggestion is make sure everything is on a 2.4Ghz network. Chrome won't work on a 5Ghz network.

What audio do the mkv files have? Ac3? Ac3 is not supported on Chromecast.
See link: https://developers.google.com/cast/docs/media
If the mkv file plays the video but with no audio, then PMS with have to transcode the audio. On a slower computer, you will get major stutter.
PMS transcoding requirements: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/ar...kind-of-CPU-do-I-need-for-my-Server-computer-
I re-encoded all of my library, so no transcoding is required and all plays super smooth using any app that you mentioned.
Hope that helps!!!

I am using bubbelupnp server for transcoding on the fly and it works great for me.

PMS plus Plex (App) paid version works fine for me, as does PMS plus accessing PlexWeb Interface in Android Chrome and casting from there.
I used to use BubbleUPnP + the BubbleServer to read from PMS, but found that disabling PMS's DLNA server helped with general stability a lot so dumped that, particularly as my other major use for BubbleUPnP - casting from other online video sources is now provided direct in Android Chrome.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions so far. Apologies I haven't replied sooner.
Firstly, I can confirm I'm on a 2.4gHz network (also, chromecast works fine when casting youtube, etc).
I know that chromecast won't play ac3 audio, so I'm trying to use plex or ps3 media server to transcode the audio as mp3. Haven't even been able to get to the stuttering problem - my issues seem to be before we even get to that part!
I am trying to find a solution I don't have to pay for (I mean, this stuff is supposed to work, right??) so bubbleupnp server and plex android app are both out.
@neu - smurph - when you're mentioning PMS, do you mean ps3 media server, or plex media server? if plex, have you tried any other apps to try and stream from plex?
If anyone has an actual functioning setup where they can cast transcoded mkv's where the ac3 is replaced by mp3 and they haven't paid for any apps, could you please let me know what your setup is? I'll be very keen to recreate it!

By PMS I mean Plex Media Server - and for a totally free setup including PMS transcoding any non Chromecast compatible media it should work using Android Chrome via http://plex.tv/web/app or yourserverip:32400/web/index.html#. You can only cast video with Android Chrome though - not music or photos. For that you'll need the paid app or a subscription (which gets you a free copy of the paid app).
Plex will not transcode unless your using the Plex App to playback the files. I'm not sure but I bet Bubble requires you to use the Bubble App as well to get the transcoding.
So your attempt at using Plex with some other app is not going to transcode and since your Audio is not CCast compatible your not going to get Audio.
[EDIT] Ok I just checked....and Plex will transcode without their app but only provided your unit has a profile in Plex that supports your unit....
What you will have to do is check the Plex Server logs to find out what your unit is identified as when streamed to, and make a profile (using the CCast profile.xml as your template), change the parameter <Client name="Chromecast"> to <Client name="yourdevice"> and save it as yourdevice.xml

Thanks Asphyx - that's a great help. I did look around last week and grabbed a profile for the Chromecast - I even replaced the 'generic' one with the CC specific one. Unfortuantely, my problem is before that stage - AllCast doesn't even SEE PMS.. it just says 'searching...' - any suggestions?
same here, I tried almost all the apps and when I want to cast a video from my phone to the CC it buffers and stutters...Is it because I have the free version to try the apps?

Are you sure you have the DLNA server enabled on Plex?
If you do also try enabling GDM in Network settings. Sometimes that helps with discovery issues.
This is ridiculous. I made sure GDM was enabled, and the DLNA server is running because I can see the log. So I tried connecting - all good from allcast. No sound, since I was using the generic profile.
I made sure I had a CC-friendly profile called name="Generic", restarted, now I can't see plex again.
It's like when I have a profile that will work properly with the CC, plex doesn't want to be seen? I've uploaded my log file in case there's anything helpful in there..

What you need to look at is the Plex DLNA logs...Thats the general log for the entire server you posted...
oops - ok, here are two DLNA logs (not sure which one is the right one)..

Your log only shows an attempt to load a photo (probably a preview image)
But it does say User Agent Windows Media Player....That shouldn't say that if it recognized your device as generic Android.
You should not have changed the generic profile, you really need to make a new profile that WILL match your device properly...
I see no attempt to load Video here, perhaps AllCast is not using the DLNA and using UPnP instead....

How can I tell if allcast is using DLNA or UPnP ?

I think you might just be better off Uninstalling PMS, Deleting all the data folders (in your User space on Windows, Data not saved in the programs folder)
And re-installing it and resetting all your profiles.
See if you can at least see the server under Media Servers.
(I have confirmed this works in Allcast)
Then we can take a look at the logs when you try and connect and we will see if we can't create a good profile for you...
But I have to say it sure looks like it is transcoding for my CCast without any need to change profile.

Hi Asphyx - sorry again it's taken so long to reply. Ok - uninstalled PMS, re-installed. Allcast found Plex.
Tried to cast a new MKV (would have ac3 audio) from my nexus 7 - video, but no sound. So plex isn't transcoding the audio into mp3/aac.
Next, tried to cast a very old simpsons ep (avi) - and I got no video, and garbled audio...
I've attached the log files in a zip. The 'Neptune' log was about 10mb so I truncated it - but it's basically saying the same thing over and over - something about a bad SCPD response from my chromecast.
Also, I'm pretty sure Plex is recognising the chromecast as 'generic'...

No worries on the time delays....Just as long as there are not 4 pages of posts in between so I can catch up! LOL
Neptune log won't help us...but we will get to that...Unfortunately Plex has multiple Logs it gets confusing...
Okyou are seeing the server which was half the problem....
Your right it isn't transcoding...
I just looked at my Generic.xml and it appears to be blank....Just the XML Header...That could be the problem if it's the same on yours.
So open up generic.xml and tell me what it says after
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<!-- Author: Plex Inc. -->
<Client name="Generic" />
If nothing then it's not transcoding at all....Which I can reproduce on my end...
Take a look at Plex DLNA Server.log
Do a search for User-Agent and tell me what it says...
Mine says "User-Agent: Dalvik/1.6.0 (Linux; U; Android 4.2.2; Xoom Build/JDQ39)"
Your's should say something different which I think is the problem here with All Cast and Transcoding from Plex.
There may be multiple entries listed so try and distinguish which one is actually Android, My guess is it will be similar to what mine says with some reference to Android version.
Copy what it says and save it in a text file somewhere for later use...
The issue maybe that Allcast is not giving a clear UserAgent reply to Plex. The one I'm seeing is a bit overly complicated and Allcast (like aVia) should have a setting to change the Useragent name in the App...Unfortunately Allcast doesn't have this setting. Something I'm sure Koush could easily fix.
What you can try to do is:
Open the Chromecast.xml file in a decent XML editor (I don't suggest a plan text editor but you can get by with it if thats all you have)
Where is says <Client name="Chromecast"> change the Chromecast to what we saved for useragent (leave out the UserAgent: of course)
Save the file as filename.xml (filename being the same as what you just replaced Chromecast with).
DO NOT modify, change or overwrite the Generic.XML! I know it sounds easier but could mess you up later on in life...Better to match the UserAgent properly.
Reboot your PMS machine to be sure it recognizes the new Profile and then see what happens with Allcast....
If it still doesn't work then we can look at the logs again and go from there...
And just to be clear, this will only work for that particular device if what I'm seeing here is correct.
We should write to Koush to see if he can't give us a clearer UserAgent report setting that we can use to match UserAgent and get the proper transcoding. It might even be nice if he added the ability to report to DLNA a useragent depending on what target device is selected.
So when the target is CCast Allcast reports itself as a Chromecast and Plex handles the proper transcoding.
