Hello! First of all, sorry that I posted this thread in the wrong forum before coming here. I will make the thread again here and ask for the old one to be deleted.
Here is the problem: My Z1 camera can no longer focus at very close distance, since the 4.4 update. In order to show you what I am talking about, here are two photos:
i.imgur.com/5pu42ki.jpg
i.imgur.com/OfON30j.jpg
Both taken in 4.4 FW, in Superior auto mode. I also tried in Manual, but the results are also very bad and out of focus.
To show that this is absolutely not normal, here is a photo taken with the same phone in 4.3:
i.imgur.com/cinWn3o.jpg
Here is a photo taken with ASUS Memo Pad HD 7, with a relatively cheap camera that it has built-in:
i.imgur.com/Wqn3nkU.jpg
It would probably do even better in good lighting conditions. I've encountered one more user in the Sony forums with this issue and I presume either it's rare, or people just haven't found out about it yet. Can you guys do a quick test with your Z1s (assuming you are on 4.4) and see if you can get it to focus at very close distance?
Thank you for your time!
Regards

BUMP. Seriously, no one has tried this?
Which ROM? Which FTF? Which version of the Z1? Are you rooted? Have you unlocked the boot? Have you flashed any mods?
Also, that picture you say is fine from the 4.3 rom seems to be taken from further away than the similar one on the 4.4 Rom.
Try clearing data from ALL camera apps in settings.

Hello,
The phone is not rooted, and has the 4.4 FW (14.3.A.0.681). I know the 4.3 pic is from further away, but the other photos are taken with a tablet at quite a similar distance. I have not flashed anything, just updated to 4.4. It doesn't seem normal to me that it can not focus at this distance.
Here is another picture from today. You can see the Windows key is not focused. I do not believe this distance is too small, this does not seem normal to me.

Hi, everybody.
Could somebody please be so nice to take the Time to upload the camera APK from the Xperia Z?
White you do this, please mention the Android Version.
I prefer the APK from Android 4.1.
If possible, please make the APK installable without Flashing.
Thank you very much.

You won't be able to install it as normal Apk because it's a system one. You can only install it on the same firmware it came from for security reasons.
Also, the Camera from 4.1 will *only* work on Android 4.1 firmware for Xperia Z. Anything newer or different and it needs to be ported, because again - it's a system app.
In short, what you are asking for is not as simple as you think.

Yes i know.
The Oppo Find 7 Camera Application (DeOdexed) works on a Note 3 with Android 4.3, but the one from the S4 Zoom and Note 2 always says:
x App was not installed

Without mentioning any reason. It simply says, that the app was NOT installed (one word too much)
Lol yep. The Sony camera has a lot of dependencies, it ties into the system pretty tightly. Needs to be "ported". Are you on an Xperia Z or different device?

My device is a Note 3.
But it's just interesting to see that camera app on the Note 3.
I also wanted to try, if the limitless burst shot and HDR Video works.
The Oppo Find 7 Camera, with it's 50 MP HD-Images (which beat up the M9's Camera, but don't reach the Lumia 1020 or a Lumix FZ1000), works on the Note 3.
With that HD-Images, the detail amount lies between G4/S6/Note4 and Lumia 1020. (It's like 930 or so...).
But the colour quality of S6 and G4 is slightly better. The S6/G4 also have a little bit less noise than this HD-Images.
This is outdated and not maintained anymore. Please this new tool instead
Most of us have decided to unlock the bootloader as there is no root or xposed without it.
But as you may have noticed this wipes the masterkey in TA unit 66667 and will make all Sony credentials inaccesible. As a consequence a lot of functionality is lost, e.g x-reality, Sony application updates etc.
Here is a solution to simulate the credentials again. There is no way to recover your lost key, but we can simulate them. Just flash the attached zip via TWRP, that's all.
This is solution is for all Z5 models (Z5 compact, Z5 , Z5 Premium, and the dual models of course)

I can say that I have tested this on Xperia Z5 Premium, and when I view the sample photos that came with the phone I can now clearly see the image quality scale up just like before I unlocked bootloader!
Thanks ALOT Tobias, you're the man!
EDIT: Below I have included my experiences from the original thread where this was posted, and I will continue to update it if I feel necessary!
Testing right now on Z5P, will report back!
EDIT: First test: I went into album and viewed the sample photos that came with the phone. I can now se a clear change in the image quality, just like before unlocking bootloader! Going to do some camera tests now!
EDIT2: My camera app will not start, stating it is already in use or the flashlight is. Will try to install camera 2.0 then see what happens.
Camera keeps crashing, and will not start :S
EDIT3: Now suddenly there were several updates available on the "Whats new" app! Will post a screenshot soon!
EDIT4: I installed a 3rd party camera app (CyanogenOS Camera) and the pictures are noticeably better than before this fix! I think I can say its back to the quality it was before unlocking bootloader!
In the meantime I discovered that my 32gb sd card is now almost full, with only 2gb left. Are there any large files that twrp creates other than the backup files everytime I flash a rom or something?
Is there anything I can safely delete here?
EDIT5: After some more camera testing and comparing pictures with my lumia 1020 and my galaxy s6 I can say that in my eyes the picture quality is back to its original state.
So just flash this in recovery on an unlocked bootloader and we are done? Or am I missing something?
I haven't unlocked my bootloader as of yet but I'm tempted to now.

I've read reports of Sony's Camera app not working after using this. Can you confirm if the TA partition only had DRM keys and not also some camera algorithms? If they did, can we use get those as well?

I assume you are refering to my experiences with this fix.
Although the sony camera app for some reason stopped working after this, I can still use all my other apps that include the use of the camera without problems, like snapchat or the Cyanogen Camera which when I take pictures with and compare them to the pictures taken before the DRM restore, I can clearly see that the picture quality is now back!

Actually, CyanogenOS Camera has it's own postprocesssing, so you aren't using Sony's. It's just an alternative. I still want to know if it's possible to get the Sony algorithms back and/or use Sony's Camera app.

I've just flashed the patch and my sony camera 2.0 is working. I guess you installed xposed which conflicted with camera 1.0, you'll need to deodex it or upgrade to camera 2.0 via What's New.
EDIT: I just tested Sony camera 2.0 to shoot with real high 3200iso indoor and no color noise there, confirmed this patch restored Sony low-light denoise algorithms.

I just tested CyanogenOS Camera. I think it actually make use of Sony engine, not to mention it works with 23MP/20MP mode and it also access all scenes mode in Sony camera just acting like a stock camera. Tried to shoot at indoor low-light, no color noise been found, I think the DRM patch is working good with CyanogenOS camera.
Great work OP!
you've made a breakout of the Z5 series!

I did over 2 weeks research in order to understand the whole mechanism and I have to admit that thre Sony security team did a pretty good job.
Anyway as I have a Z5 dual myself you can count on that I will make it work with Marshmallow.

that is, if it works (and keeps working on marshmallow)
Here it is camera 2.0 ported for 5.0.2... This took a lot of work, months of work to figure this out. Theoretically this should work on any 20.7 megapixel Xperia device running 5.0.2... Enjoy it... My Rom Is coming people... I've been very busy with school.

I'm using my phone... And are you sure this has been available for 5.0.2? I know it's been available for 5.1.1 Lollipop for some time now...Because I'm pretty sure as of a month ago (that's around the last time I searched this topic) it wasn't working on 5.0.2 because people were getting Force Close errors on all the Camera 2.0 ports.. A couple of the devs even said 5.0.2 was impossible with this... but if you know of a recent 5.0.2 port that I don't know about, let me know.. It's not that I doubt you, I'd just like to see it for myself since I sunk a lot of time into getting this to work for our Lollipop version...Thanks!

The Z3v is different from the rest of the Xperia line, and I've tried the port that was given out on the cross device board and it really does no one any good when you can't even open the camera anymore.

telling a devloper to use the search button... you should know what your talking about before you post.
This is the only way to get camera 2.0 on the z3v. Or use the other ports and watch your camera not work anymore and force close.

Where can I find a list of improvements that will be had specifically to the z3V over the original camera software?
Also, can you please tell us what is different than the other downloadable installation file that's floating around here? They have the same timestamp and are the same size. I'm not doubting, just trying to understand.

There are no list of improvements specific to our device model, this is just the updated Sony camera app(s) ported from the Z5 to work on our devices. I wasn't aware there was another flashable camera port for the Z3v floating around here... Please link me to it. I assure you, you have nothing to risk by flashing this and that I am the original developer of this port... No one else by my knowledge should be circulating this file around for the Z3V or 5.0.2 in general. I'm making a flashable zip as we speak to revert back to the orginal camera should you not like the Camera 2.0's interface... I'm also working on an updated version of this port that will provide some camera improvements. When I'm done with both zips they will be posted in the OP along with some cleanup and screenshots. Thank you for your questions, it's great to ask questions... that's how we learn.. And its always good to know as much as possible before flashing anything to our phones. Should you have any more questions feel free to ask and I hope you enjoy the MOD.
Nope, not the same. When Mega DLs I end up with two of everything. Previous download zips were moved to my card and is the z5 2.0 at 10.5mb.
Will try this later and look for differences.

Would you mind linking me to this other zip you're referring to? Thank you
EDIT: Nevermind I can tell by the size of the file you must be referring to one of the other Camera 2.0 ports here on XDA. You can try flashing those at your own risk if you'd like, but I'd kindly like to warn you ahead of time, those do not work on Lollipop 5.0.2... The reason my port is larger in file size is because the framework ported from 5.1.1 as well as permission files to run Camera 2.0 are included. It is worth noting however, you can flash any other Camera 2.0 port AFTER flashing mine and they'll work since mine installs the correct framework and permissions that are necessary.
Zach,
Thanks for putting this together. I've installed it on rooted 5.02 and it's running well. Note that a couple boots were required after TWRP install and the user will get an overheat if trying to use the camera immediately but after the phone acclimates it is just fine.
I had downloaded the z5 zip not understanding that the z3V was the only one not on the list. I actually almost installed it until I read that it could brick the phone.
The UI seems a bit fiddly but I guess each has it's learning curve. I took random dim indoor shots, including some macros, before and after in the sensors native 4:3 aspect ratio at 20.7MP usingthe original and your ported 2.0, but using Camera FV-5. I didn't tripod the phone or run any real range, just point & shoot of 28 shots all the same objects from the same spot.
So far I have not noticed a significant difference and when the photos are zoomed in on they show the same muddled look from what appears to be the same overcorrective software (I'm sure Sony didn't change that). I've read that the z5 camera hardware is identical to the z3V.
I'll put her on a tripod this weekend and do some real testing.
The original camera zip will make flipping back and forth easier for comparison testing.
Thanks for making this happen!
Thank you so very much for your time and effort to get this working for our device
So how many of us have actually installed this ROM? Is it worth ditching the setup we have right now? I mean I don't really know how this could provide better performance if Sony hasn't updated any soft for our phones camera. I could understand manual modes might provide greater ability to change fine settings, but point and shoot quality and overall use ability is was I am concerned about.
First off, it's not a ROM, it's technically just a mod. Secondly, Sony supposedly did update the software, and because the camera hardware in our z3V phones are identical to those of the z5 which was released with this updated software, it will do the same thing and be perfectly installable without having to port it. -And it is, on nearly every single z model but ours because the z3V is a Verizon Sony step child.
The UI is MOSTLY what's new and improved, but lower light shots do seem to be rendered better by the software. The ISO limits haven't changed and I doubt that Sony did something to alter their interpolation software, but something does seem different.
Until I can easily switch back and forth without having to flash to an entire restore that's 12Gb (in other words, simply flash back to the original camera as a zip), I'm not going to bother with tripod testing. Once I can do that, I will take shots with a tripod in varying light using the old and new camera zips and examine the shots and exif data. It could simply be that in manual mode the software defaults to better settings. I'm guessing that it's the default values values in lower light situations that have been changed, if anything.
At first I didn't like the user interface just because I wasn't used to it. But now I find I'm actually using it more than I used the old one (I normally use FV-5). It is a one handed, portrait friendly UI.
I highly recommend this mod. Simply make a backup and install it. You can always revert back to the old one via your backup or you could wait for zachariahpope to release the original as an installable zip.

Strange. Mine doesn't crash when switching to superior auto with the front camera.
Edit: It does if I try to switch while using the front camera. If I switch to Superior Auto for the rear camera and then switch to front camera it is fine.
Good morning all, picked up this phone to test for my sons. I did root\debloat using the DirtyCow method. This means that there are hooks between the camera and the OS that haven't been discovered yet. Earlier CM builds had this issue for other phones too. I'm not a developer but I know a little about code. I'll grab a Logcat to see if something jumps out at me.

It is not supposed to be an issue with the app being used, and rather the libs for the camera. But I will continue to try things out in this direction. Hopefully will find some hidden lib being called by the stock app and not by other apps.

I am far from expert, I don't notice a connection to camera with these logcat entries.
I assume you did not make copy / backup before removing stock camera.
I think this recovery package should restore your camera.
It is files from v17 and v8.3 stock, you never said what version you were on. I can put up version for whichever one you have, since these should only work on v17 and v8.3

if this doesn't fix it you should reinstall the OS

Unfortunately, installing the 6.6 zip didn't work for me. I tried to restore stock but I get am error when restoring 'system'. I'm just going to buy another and grab the image from it.

I was looking for them before I opened this topic. I am buying this phone for my sons so I was getting then anyway. I eventually want to learn to build roms and the plan is to start with this one.

Good morning all, picked up this phone to test for my sons. I did root\debloat using the DirtyCow method. I wanted to use a better camera app so I installed the Google camera app which for me worked better. I uninstalled the native app. That broke ALL camera functions. Now no camera app works. Has anyone had this issue?

Ok quick update: I did flash back to stock and the camera works fine now. I didn't remember how poor the camera quality is I still use some 8mp cameras but IMO this is bad.

Sadly you picked the wrong phone for learning development on, you need to choose another phone.
Blu has decided to lock this phone down, so future users won't even be able to root let alone flash custom firmware.
Even if Blu didn't the development is dead on this device anyway. This phone using Sony camera which no one has been able to get to work on custom ROMs.
One can port to another ROM provided that donor phone also uses Sony camera.
This is 100% the wrong phone to try and learn to develop on.
Best phones for beginners are Nexus and Samsung, simply cause more developer's have these phones, so they have the time to teach.
Phone with few developers are not meant for beginners to learn from, the less developers a device has the less time anyone has to teach.
As far as I know I am the only developer on my current device, it's a good phone, but I don't have to time to teach beginners, that's why I recommended Samsung or Nexus.

Actually, I have plenty of time to learn. The fact that this device has been difficult to work with is the challenge I want. I absolutely don't like Samsung and everybody works with Nexus. If I fail then so be it. At least I'll learn what not to do.

Good luck then, if you have one of the locked preloaders you will learn very soon what not to do.
