Nexus 6 curved concept - Nexus 5 General

Ok, Most concepts are FAKE as the following one is. But what do you think about our next Best friend being curved:cyclops:..
I kinda felt blue when saw that but don't know what the general acceptance will be.

It depends on whether Google pays to use that licensed name or not
lets discard the idea that the name is related to size.
Also, I would say that our current Nexus 5 is a very 2014 device since released very late on 2013 (the first nexus 7 was release on July 2012 and 2nd, July 2013).

NO thanks, I do not like curved phones.

Agreed I'd rather have a flat phone than curved but enough people do it such as apple it will be caught on like how people adapted to windows 8

Curved? No thanks.
Also not a fan of Windows 8 GUI and navigation style, and still use Windows 7 because it does what I need it to.
Go figure.
What would I want in a Nexus 6/Nexus 5 gen. 2? New high-end CPU/GPU, more RAM I suppose, higher MP camera. You know, that sort of thing. Ooh, root and SU option on stock Android? :highfive:

Im guessing this: 1440P display, 64 bit cpu (not sure exactly), 3gb ram, 13mp camera with ois, android 5.0 or 4.5 w/art as stock & 64 bit support, usb 3.0 (really hope this is in).
Oh, and broken SU...

Nexus devices are already kind of a niche product, it would be stupid to make it either curved or any larger than 5 inches, both of those categories are in the niche categories themselves.

Looks cool but unstable on a table. Needs to be curved the other way IMHO

For me 5" inch is the perfect screen size, both in the hand and pocket.

Waiting to get any curved phone into my hand already before I could tell I like it or not ^^

there are certain things like music controls and torch controls and such that i need access to with one hand. but anytime i am actually zero'd in on my smartphone, i am using both hands, so i tend to prefer the bigger screens. i haven't quite figured out what my limit is on screen size

Does no one remember that the nexus S was curved. Shape wise, it was nice to hold and pocket. The only thing was the earpiece could be a little uncomfortable as the edge pressed against your ear more, but that is solvable. Of course, the screen was flat and only the body curved.
Some advantages are: placing it on tables etc mean little chance of scoring or scratching the screen; also rear facing speakers are either up face down, or not in contact with the surface face up.
PS the issue with the nexus s was Samsung's cheap, plastic build quality and feel. But the shape was good

Curved phone worked well on the lg flex. T-Mobile showed me the flex he had it in his pocked as its not on sale until next week. The phone is huge! But because of the curve and it really wasn't burdensome. I think from here on out curved phones should be a must for phablets

No curved phone please. Flexible is another thing but for stiff curved I cannot think any preferable reason.

I will be so upset if the make it curved.

[Q] Should the next Note have a 6"-inch screen?

Screen type, size and resolution seem to be the crucial discerning factor for mobile phones. the Note 2 stepped up its size, and was an even bigger success than the Note 1. So should the next Note step up to a 6-inch screen ?
+1 Yes or -1 No?

Yes, but only if the phone size stays the same
Well only if it has flexible screen because the galaxy S IV its coming 5" flexible super Amoled HD 440 ppi and I think that it's pretty hard to beat that since where are you gonna put the Spen with a flexible screen so I guess my next device its gonna be SIV
Tapatalking on my n7000
No please, if i want a bigger screened note i'll buy a 7".
Yes because being that much bigger won't matter much to me at all. This phone fits in my pocket with room to spare let's fill it up

If it has no bezel at all, then yeah, I might just be able to use it with one hand. which is where my limit lies.

This might actually work. Starting out with the Note 2 and sacrificing the SAMSUNG logo at top, and making the bottom homescreen button much narrower.
Edit: Come to think of it. It is not actually a (secret) 4-way navigation button, right? I actually can't tell from the feel of it....

I took a ruler across my Notes screen and 6 inches of screen will be a tight fit.
If the physical button is made into capacitive doesn't count as that's not part of the screen.
I think the Current Note/Note 2 should not get any bigger in total physical size as that would go too much into tablet territory.
A 6 inch screen in my opinion would be the absolute max I would like to see this phone go to. Any bigger and I wont buy it.
I dont mind if the machine keep the same size as 3.2 x 5.8 inch, and screen is 6 inch, it should be able to fit the 6 inch in if it is kind of frameless.
It is possible.
But seems better if keep the screen as 5.3 inch size, and decrease the overall of the machine size to something like GS3.

Here are a few photos to get an idea of a 6-inch phone. In fact, on second thought, a surface-like touch-keyboard should be built into the cover.
Screens are taken from
here
Actually I do believe a 6-inch Samsung phone will be coming by the end of 2013. But this is pure speculation based on the rate at which Samsung churns out phone-models. It is harder for Samsung to make a 6" phone, b/c big high quality, high res screens are more complicated to make and because they break easier. Samsung has unprecedented brand value, and as such they fare better making no product (i.e. devices which never see the public eye) rather than a disastrous product with lots of bad press.
Would I want one? Perhaps, after I have watched many youtube videos and read reviews with real-life photos.

Amazing
But I guess its toooooooo big for a phone!
I remember when NOTE was released and I wondered if I should really buy it. I went to the store, checked it out and felt comfortable with it for daily use coz I could put it in my pocket and still use it as a 'phone'. BUT 6.3" I dunno! Maybe that's the end of the line for me!
LOL samsung should be crazy to put 6"+ screen PHONE unless its border-less with no keys, just whole screen .. yeah that would be cool :good:
-1 Samsung should focus more on productivity and entertainment for the next generation of the note. Even more processing power, more ram for another level of multitasking, more focus on the camera and photography features(which I doubt will happen because of the galaxy camera). The s pen of the note 2 was greatly improved upon but I feel that even more improvements can be add to the s pen. If they do decide to enlarge the screen, 5.7 should be the MAX!

From a psychological perspective the screen specs just have to have at least a 6 in them. Few would upgrade otherwise. Note = Screen. Case in point: apples product line and the journalistic endnotes they receive
I am pretty convinced that Sammy will go the way of virtual Android Homebutton in their new Note. Hate it or love it. And it will be pretty soon: Q2/Q3 2013

LG Manufactured Nexus 5 And Nexus 7.7 Will Reportedly Be Announced In May At GoogleIO

The turn of the year always brings with it new found excitement about the potential hardware and software that we are likely see introduced from the likes of Apple, Samsung and Google. It also marks the start of the countdown to events like Apple’s WWDC and Google’s I/O conference, both of which take place in the Bay Area at the Moscone Center. We won’t find out exactly what both companies have in store for us during their respective events, but early reports are suggesting Google could be planning on announcing information and technical specifications of two new Nexus branded devices.
Last year’s Google I/O event saw the world being introduced to the iOS version of the Google Chrome web browser as well as the unveiling of the ASUS manufactured Nexus 7 tablet and the Nexus Q social streaming media player that never actually made it to the public. The latest reports suggest that Google is planning to continue the trend of making hardware based announcements by unveiling another LG manufactured smartphone called the Nexus 5 as well as medium market tablet called the Nexus 7.7, also produced by LG.
This year’s I/O conference is set to take place in May in familiar surroundings at Moscone Center West. The Korean based report is suggesting that exhaustive information about the hardware won’t be made available until the event itself, but also suggests that the Nexus 5 will come with a 5-inch display with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and an impressive pixel density of 440 pixels-per-inch. A NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor complete with 2GB of on-board RAM could also be bundled with the hardware.
The Nexus 7.7 is speculated to run the same processor as the smaller smartphone, also with 2GB of RAM. The 7.7-inch display will reportedly come with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and be available in either 8GB or 16GB variants. Both sets of hardware are expected to come pre-installed with Android 5.0 when they launch. Although no pricing details for the Nexus 7.7 were included in the initial reports; it is being suggested that the Nexus 5 device could launch with a $299 price-tag for the 8GB model, which would put it into the same pricing structure as the current Nexus 4 smartphone.
As is always the case with speculation of this nature, we won’t really know the intention of Google until the event is right at our nose, but it would certainly be a welcome announcement during I/O.

This. If the next nexus comes larger than 4.85 then I'm out. Unless they remove the bottom bezel. Because the nexus 4 has a smaller screen than the galaxy s2 (from the bottom of the notification bar to the top of the navigation bar) too much bezel on top and bottom. If they can optimize the space, maybe I will get a 5" but the note 2 was ridiculous, had to shift my hand to swipe away a notification

Oh geez.. This photo will be over the rumor blogs any day!

very nice render!
gonna nit pick here just for fun:
looks like the "rubbery" looking outer border is a bit thicker on the left side than the right side. Could just be my eyes though.
that "rubbery" looking material looks super nice though!
another nitpick:
the volume buttons curve inwards on the top and bottom, the power button does not. personally, i prefer the non curved style of the power button as you pictured it.
truly great job though!
if you make it, ill buy it
Same design Almost looks like n4.. nothing new for me .. just so excited to see 4.4

Um. I don't know if you're just trolling and people are going along with it but that's exactly what the N4 looks like.
I don't know why we need a render anyways when we have the actual pictures of the device.
Is that large inlaid square on the far left a much more respectable speaker?
To be honest that looks just like an N4, even the curves at the top and bottom resemble a N4 more than the leaked pictures of the N5. And even the bezel looks like an N4
Conclusion this is a render of an N4

What about the back? The front is a screen, thats a given, but the back is the main place which gives the phone its design.

Hmm doesnt looks that impressive simply by those battery life ratings... manages a few hours call time what the hell?! OEM estimated battery life is generally way too high so this seems really odd as its worse than the nexus 4 rated time .
Also the size of the device is slightly disappointing, I was expecting/hoping for a smaller device all round like the rumoured sizing of 131.9 x 68.2 x 8.8(?) hoping this is still true as that small change in size would be amazing and tip it from a good device to a perfect sized device .
Interesting... guess I will awaiting the release!

Specs....ergonomics....nah....I'd be lying if I say I ain't disappointed. Not a Nexus for me this time around.....time for an HTC I guess...
If you all are unimpressed by the specs than don't buy it! I however like many others will enjoy the best phone to come on the market with the latest os, I would buy it even if it came with the exact same battery as the N4. The phone is going to be good so I wish luck to everyone who thinks they will be happy staying with their N4's, while everyone else is enjoying the new gem.
If these are going to be official specs, no thank you I love my N4!:what:

LOL. Dude, the specs are marginally better. You talk like it will make the N4 seem pathetic. LOL
Enjoy your marginally better, more expensive toy tho! N4's will be flying off the shelves with their lower price and nearly as good specs.
Battery problems? No matter the rom or android version.... >>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2461864
Is there a PDF copy some where?
I'm on my phone so I can't quickly look through it.
Does anyone see any mention of USB OTG? That I'd the one feature I wish the Nexus 4 had.

Has anyone made a photo of..

Has anyone made a scaled photo of what the Nexus 5 would look like next to the Nexus 4?
I'm curious about the size difference. It should be possible to do since we know the basic dimensions, even though the phone hasn't been released yet.

Based on the dimensions, it's slightly smaller than the N4, but you can't really notice the difference

I love how people complains about 4.7" display being too small and going for the 5" display Nexus 5 which is nearly the exact same size when you compared the screen dimensions.
I love how people complains about the Nexus 5 with 5" display is going to be too big, even though its nearly the exact same size as the N4.

It's actually a marked improvement over 4.7", a 6.4% increase in screen real estate.

I know. It'll help offset some of the navbar, but overall my point is having 4.7" screen is not that bad.
In the original leaked photo, the new Nexus simply looks bigger.
Double post
It's closer to the camera that took the photo and is held up more perpendicular rather than slanted, ofcourse it will look bigger.

Yeah, compared my GNex to a S4's screen the other day, even at 4.67", the difference wasn't that much. Wished the N5's screen size was closer to the G2's

Even after taking that into consideration, it still looks bigger to me. It doesn't matter to me anyways, it's just a curiosity thing.

Great post, thanks!
I guess this answers my question, and I'm glad to see I wasn't imagining things
This is the case I ordered, except in white. Nexus 5 is definitely bigger.

If the Nexus 5 is that much bigger than the 4, and the leaked images are correct i can't see how it will only have a 5" screen, especially with such small bezels. I know what the docs say, but things just don't seem to add up to me.

I'm expecting the Nexus 5 to be somewhere around the size of the Galaxy S4, since that phone has a 5" screen. I have plenty of friends with S4's, and their screens seem way bigger than that of my Nexus 4.
The bigger the better, I simply can't wait to get this phone.

I agree it should like like this. there's a review on youtube of one of the N5 cases and the S4 fits the N5 case perfectly aside from the holes

Awesome post man!
After doing a search on youtube for this topic, the first video I clicked showed what you described exactly!
I am so stoked. The S4 is probably the perfect size phone for me, and to find out the Nexus 5 is similar has got me very excited. Thanks again for your response!
The dimensions being leaked show the nexus 5 to be about 4 millimeters taller than the nexus 4. Kind of sucks, all the rumors stated the N5 was going to have smaller dimensions all around than the N4. Phones are getting too big...

13.2% increase in screen area. You have to square it. (assuming length/width proportions remain the same).

Yeah. I'm pretty disappointed in this. Now there's really not much incentive for me to switch from my S4...the phones are the same size, after all, and mine has a bigger battery.

ERM, how can a perpendicular device be one size at the top and another at the bottom?
You also have the N4 being taller when we know it is in fact shorter than the N5.
Did you get a child to measure this or something?
