Hi All,
I have been having this problem with any firmware based on stock .290 and .136. Be it Whatsapp or Line or Viber. Anything that sends an Audio message comes out garbled, which is extremely annoying.
The weird thing is.. this becomes PERFECTLY fine when I open the the SIM card port.. I seriously fail to see the connection to MIC performance here.. with the port being open! so it's just weird!!
I have downgraded to .257 for now due to this bug.
Can anyone on .290 or .136 try whatsapp audio messages and see if the problem exists for them too?
Thanks all!
LaMMi
You have 2 microphone on Z1, when you record the voice message, speak to the one on top behind Led Notification/Phone Call Speaker.
BTW, Whazzapp always had this problems.
Unfortunately, this doesn't solve the problem neither..
It's really weird because it affects normal phone conversations as well but not as much.. I can use what's and click on the paperclip icon and actually RECORD a voice clip and it will come out fine... just when I use the audio button, it comes out garbled!
So damn weird!
Probably cheap codecs and the option in Whazzapp was always like that and many reported to have problems. Maybe with the next update Whazapp will fix that but now how do that I don't know. Just use different app to record voice messages and send them via whazz.
Download the new beta of WhatsApp here before it hits the Playstore.
It seemed to have solve the problem for me

As stated in this topic. The only alternative is to click the thumbnail icon in a chat, select audio and choose what's app recorder.
That will allow u to send a voice note the old fashioned what's app way without the garble. Even still I've experienced app and phone freezes when trying to listen to voice notes via what's app. So hopefully the next update fixes it.

Thanks all for the replies...
glad to know I am not the only one experiencing this problem.
I will surely report back when I have more details/fixes
Just updated to MonX .136 and installed the beta whatsapp version suggested by slimldj..
whatsapp still has some form of garbled messages but it's 90% fixed.. it's good enough for me to use 4.3 based rom now!
I hope others will find this information useful.

I was going to post a new topic specifying this exact problem (although my phone doesn't seem to benefit from opening the SIM flap).
This garbled recording is driving me nuts, it worked fine on .257. I'm also in a Z1 (C6906) .290 based rom (iHackers).
Is there some way this problem can be solved? Any help or input will be greatly appreciated.

Hiya Aldo!
I was having this problem actually all the way until around 3-4 days ago when Whatsapp got updated. I was using the workaround by "attaching" an audio clip instead of pressing down the button to speak.
Without changing rom (Monx .136), I just updated whatsapp to version 2.11.175 and now it is working 100% fine now.. The audio comes out clear and loud when played back...
Hope this helps, please post back of your results!

Hello,
I have JB retail brazil installed in my phone, and have a problems with Tango calls and skype calls. When i make video calls, the front cam makes an excessive zoom and the other person can only see my eyes and my nose, i have to back up a meter so then can see my face. I see no one min this forum has the same problem as me, what can i do. I tried changing to other JB firmwares but with the European version I have the same problem with video calls and even lost my 3g network. I have changed to ICS and back to JB a lot of times. Can some one help me please??
I have the same issue
Hi, I have the same issue with videocalls on Razr i. But, when I'm using the camera software with front facing camera, the video is ok, with a good distance. I`m using the stock ROM from Motorola and the problem affects Skype and Hangouts.

After some months and instaling several stock JB roms, i haven't been able to solve this. Do you have a development motorola razr i, I mean the development previous version before motorola released the final. where did you buy your phone (country)? what ROM is installed?
Same problem
Hi Guys,
I have the same problem with the same apps. I have a Razr i with original JB ROM from Motorola.
I try to find something on the web but untill now I didn't find anything to help.
I have the same problem with both Skype and Google Hangouts. I need to check out some other 3rd party camera apps to see if they have the same issue - or if it's just video.
Problems also on Tango
I've tested on Tango and it presented a "big zoom" as Skype and Hangouts.
It is a problem thats comes from the "conector" used by these apps. The stock camera doesn't show the same problem, mybe because it uses "another" way to access the camera hardware.
In order to test this, I installed Vignette and it doesn't show the problem.
So, there are at least 2 way to access the front facing camera, and the way that video chating apps uses shows the problem about de the zoomed video.
Does any one know something about a patch, an app, or did other tests to localize the origin of the issue?
Same Issue
No update to this thread? I tried a few ROMs; have the same issue as described above in Skype and Hangouts, camera app is fine, no zoom.
I had this problem and it used to happen while I was in the middle of the call. I solved it by going to /system/data/data/com.skype.../files/app.properties and changing this line [device.video.preview.zoom=true] to [device.video.preview.zoom=false] and then it stopped zooming right straight to my face

I "upgraded" to KitKat through PC Companion and can't get any sound from the earpiece. I tried the service tests and still nothing. I tried installing KitKat again, this time using an ftf on flashtool and wiping everything; still no earpiece sound. I then flashed another rom (Carbon), and the sound is fine there so it shouldn't be a hardware issue. Does anyone know what the cause could be? Better yet, how can it be fixed?
I gave up on KK for now and just went back to stock 4.2.2 where everything works for me... Would it possibly work right if I update OTA to KK?
I also have the same problem...
Hi guys,
Mine is working correctly after 4.4.2. But I installed it with full wipe and flash pre root, not PCC...

Hi, this is an unsolved bug of the latest stock rom updates. I found a solution:
1. go to Settings --> Apps --> all --> sound enhancements ---> clear data and force stop
2. clear data and force stop Walkman or other music app.
3. restart your cell phone.
But this is not a final solution. The sound bug "comes back" after some days. So, if it appears again you have got to do the same steps.
excuse me if i don't speak english well, I just speak spanish.

I installed SoundAbout. This App told me that my cell phone detects earphones and bluetooth device, but I didn't connect anything.
So, I thought there was a bug in smart connect app, and i was right. I cleared its data. Later, smart connect detected a "phantom" earphones.
It's annoying to make everytime the steps that I posted you, or configuring SoundAbout. I think I'll go back to stock 4.2.2 (the better stock rom for me)

I do not have any problem with this Soundabout really helped me this time
you can use the pro version...
complete all recommendations with bluetooth voice once...!!!!
The steps Claudio provided only seemed to work for a matter of minutes, but now I have been using the phone problem "free" for over 24 hours with SoundAbout installed. So when will we get a REAL fix from Sony? It seems like it should be an easy fix for them since it's just something in the software detecting a phantom headset connected. Should I just forget about that and buy a pro license for this app. Maybe Sony will reimburse me for it, haha
Thank you both for the input!
Well, my SoundAbout trial ended and the problem is back. I'm wondering if there is something in the android script or whatever that would "fix" this before ponying up for the Pro version of SoundAbout. Sucks to have to pay to fix Sony's problem

have you tried HF button widget?
A friend with an xperia ZR just had this issue also, so i was looking for an alternative to SoundAbout and came across this app.
Thanks for the tip. Right now, I'm frustrated with 4.3 and above, so I went back to 4.2.2. I had another sound problem on KK too; when using my bluetooth headset, if the back of the phone got a little pressure (even from me bending down with the phone in my pants pocket), the bluetooth would disconnect. I would then have to tap or press on the back to get it to reconnect. I was thinking it could be a hardware issue, but I don't have the problem at all on 4.2.2
I don't know if it is the app or another problem but when I make voice calls, people on the other end of the phone can here their own voice just after speaking. So when I talk back/reply they hear their own voice along with what I am saying. It has become almost impossible to talk to anyone because people just hear their own voice on top of what I am saying.
I clean installed the official stock firmware and the problem still exists.
Can you please suggest me how I can solve this problem? :crying:
@pleomaxell
To be frank , I've searched for the explanation of the settings all over the web, but couldnt find any.
Moreover, I got no such problems. All my audios and calls seem to be louder then before. I pretty much use the 'quality settings', and sometimes use the 'custom' one.
Coming to your query, have you tried uninstalling then making a call.?
Just to see if no such issue arises

Never.ever encountered this issue in my whole life.
Sorry buddy
If all fails, maybe you could try a factory reset. Provided you backed everything up using the titanium backup app
During calls other people hears my voice very low (i have to speak directly in the mic hole to make it clear), I exclude that it is a problem because of the microphone bulk, with the voice recorder it is perfect also speaking softly (it always use the microphone below). I exclude that it is problem of noise cancellation (s5 mini does not have this option) and in any case I tried to tap the microphone over near infrared and nothing changes. I exclude that it is a problem with the SIM card as if I use the speakerphone or headphones works perfect. G800F with stock kitkat. (no root, likes to keep warranty)
The phone is very new, already tried factory reset.
Any advice? Sorry for my bad english. thanks.

I understand ... actually i got the phone just a couple of days ago so i didn't make many calls. So i am not 100% sure that i have this problem too.
I know however that on water-proof phones the mics are somehow "protected" so they have worst audio mic performances that non-waterproof smartphone. I have also read online that some s5mini users solved their mic/audio problems by unistalling/freezing/disabling tha google "talk back" application. Maybe you can give it a try and see if it works.

That's for sure, my friend
For now i browsed the internet a bit and i found out 2 types of problems with the samsung galaxy s5's and s5 min's microphones. The first one is the low audio volume (the one you have) and the other one is the echo problem, i.e. the people you are calling do hear the echo of their own voices.
For now i just noticed that i have a kind of problem when using the phone call recording app i always used without problems ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nll.acr&hl=it ). When i play the audio file of a phone call, my side of the call is difficult to hear. I know for sure this happens when i hear the recorder audio file. But i don't know if this happens also in real time with the phone call. Could you please give the ACR app a try? And see how is the recorded phone call? Can you hear your voice in the recorder audio file?

Ok, i got it. I am new to android 4.4 (my previous smartphone had just 4.0) so i didn't know you caould also deactivate it. I used to freeze app with Titanium Backup on my old smartphone. I guess that deactivating it lead to the same result as freezing it with TB or unistalling it with TB.
Since you just deactivated it i can suppose you are also running full stcok android 4.4 unrooted?

Hello,
I have a mini s5, I noticed that whoever calls me hear an annoying echo of his voice, I did already several SIM change evidence, the only way to eliminate echo is remove the back cover.
Should I apply for assistance, or is there a way to disable the upper microphone near the speaker?

I did this try myself and ... the result was no better. My voice is always very low ....
I also did another try with the earphone plugged into the 3,5 jack and ... the result was great! In the recorder audio file of the phone call i can totally hear my voice, loud and clear!! And i did this with two phone call recording apps:
ACR: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nll.acr
AutoCallRecorder: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.romang.callrecorder&feature=order_history
I will go on and try other phone call recording app, but i don't think this will get any better. I think this is really a problem with the 2 build.in microphones. Now it's hard to say if it is an hardware issue or a software/firmware issue. I am runnung 4.4 .... if someone running full stock lollipop could please give it a try and let us know. Maybe witha new OS release the mics behaves differently ...
Relased yesterday ufficial 5.1.1 lollipop for italian G800F ! installed today and the volume of the microphone is improved, now I would say that it is acceptable...although with other phone it's still better.

Ciao, italiano anche tu?
Well, i updated my s5 mini 2 days ago (cause i have a slovakia phone, and the update came out last week) and i too have noticed some improvements. I though that it was just a placebo effect, but now that i hear the same impression from another user too, i think that something has changed. Maybe samsung re-wrote the drivers for the new android version and they came out to be better? Who knows ...
I also tried to record a couple of phone calls with the previous mentioned app ACR and the volume of my voice is pretty equal to that of the people i am talking too. Before, when i was on kitkat, the volume level of my voice was really really looooow. Now i can get really good audio files.
I am not sure if the firmware upgrade also solved the "echo" issue (which is totally different from the issue i had). Can someone give it a try?

Well, in ACR i have set the same settings i had in my previous smartphone:
1) settings --> general --> the second option (which is notification; display a notification if ACR is turned on) deactivated. [but you can try to turn it on if it gets better]
2) setting --> recording --> audiosource --> MIC (usually, after installation, the default setting is automatic)
3) setting --> recording --> percorso audio --> automatic
4) setting --> recording --> formato di regsitrazione --> 3GP
When i was running kitkat i noticed that changing the setting number 2 did have some effects on the volume of the voices in the regsitration. If my settings don't solve your problem, you can try and change only that one. I remember that the "voice uplink" was a good audiosource to get better results. Give it a try.
PS. I have also de-activated the "supress noise" function in the pre-installed samsung voice recording app. This shouldn't intefere with the in-call recording but ... it might.

That is good news! :good:
I have tried to access a setting menu for mic volume gain but i had no luck.
I tried several key-combination (from the dialer) but some were uneffective on this specific device and others didn't led to mic volume gain.
Actually i am starting to think that, without root, it is not possible to access such feature.
By the way, while i was on kitkat, i noticed that with another voice recording app, i was getting better results. It is this app:

Since i was getting better results on kitakat, maybe you can get also better results on lollipop. You can try the two trial apks posted in the first post of the thread. With this app, i used audio "source-->audio uplink" and i was getting better results than with ACR.
Hi guys!
Just got my Zuk Z2 Pro 6GB/128GB from Gearbest. It came with international ROM and some disturbing apps, so i installed the official ROM ZUI 2.0.057 ST via PC/QPST and later updated via online update to ZUI 2.3.044 ST.
I live in Germany but the english system language is ok for me.
The phone overall is very impressive and i like it al lot.
The only Problem i have is that nobody understands me wehn i call somebody. They just hear a very very low voice and can hardly understand me. If i call somebody via speaker erverything is fine and they understand me perfectly. I tried to reboot the device an even tried another dialer, but nothing solved the problem.
I'm going to reset the phone and hope that solves the problem.
Dou you have any other suggestion?
Thanks!

Solution...
The solution works 100% of the time. The solution is simple, install mSwitch (KeyCut) from the Play Store. Open the app and plug in the head phones, the app will show a message, click yes. If it asks 2 messages than click yes in both.
Search information about this app in order to understand more. The problem here is that the Lenovo Zuk Z2 phone thinks that earphones are plugged in and that is why during calls, the earphone and mic do not work. Also, while playing videos the speaker will not work for this very same reason. Installing this app resets the system setting and the phone starts to function normally...

Hi,
did you found any solution for this Problem?
I recieved my new Phone and got the same Problem Like you. I have to make all my calls in speaker mode because the only in this Mode the mic works properl.

The solution works 100% of the time. The solution is simple, install mSwitch (KeyCut) from the Play Store. Open the app and plug in the head phones, the app will show a message, click yes. If it asks 2 messages than click yes in both.

Hi,
the mSwitch didn't fix my issue as the app seemed not working. However I found another solution that worked for me. You need to enter engineering mode and manually test the mics. Once I tested them (and they worked) when I came back to the system, people could hear me normally.
The setting can be found by entering the following into the dialer
*#*#1111#*#*
and then test these
Mic&Spk
BackMic&Spk
ANCMic&Spk
Hopefully it will do the trick. good luck
