I've searched for this and read through 23 pages on this device and didn't find anything about this.
I have this phone running 4.2.2 and activeroot.
About twice per day I will pull the phone out of my pocket, unlock it, and in front of me will be some app that I didn't launch. Not only that, it isn't an app that has a shortcut or widget on my home screen. Usually it's a page of something that normally requires multiple clicks to get to. (clicks? Punches? Pokes? Touches? What's the right word here? )
For example, today I opened the phone and was presented with a list of wifi connections. That is buried in Settings/Wifi/Connections. And I hadn't visited that page EVER. In fact, the last time I was in the settings menu, I was in Settings/account/more/battery but I had since used the task manager multiple times to kill everything that needed killing.Yesterday my phone opened to my calendar settings.
This bizarre behavior is really annoying. It's like it has a mind of its own. The weird thing is, my girlfriend's S4 does this as well. She's been griping about it for 6 months but I just assumed that she was somehow mistakenly opening these apps since she can be a bit dingy with technology. I feel bad now because mine does the same thing and now I'm wondering....is there a fix? DId we both get bad phones? Should I exchange it for another? I'm having some other issues as well but I posted them as separate threads to keep things cleaner.

I have no idea what's going on, but I tried accessing Google Play on my Note just now, only to find out that it has been uninstalled!? Before anyone asks...No, I did not install/uninstall anything from the last time I accessed Google Play (which was earlier today). All I know is that the app updated itself automatically the other day, and everything seemed fine. But now, it has somehow uninstalled itself automatically. WTF???
Am I nuts (could be a possibility ), or has this happened to anyone else too?? The weird part is that the 'Google Play' icon is still on my home screen, but when I press the application button in the bottom right corner, it's not there.
EDIT: I just rebooted my Note, and now the icon is gone in both places.
EDIT #2: This is flat out strange...the 'Play Books' app was still working, so I opened it up and pressed the icon to access Google Play. There was a long wait, but lo and behold, Google Play eventually opened up as mysteriously as it had disappeared! Very, very weird...
I don't know how in the world this happened (or why), but since the app has come back, I guess the problem pretty much solved itself. I'd delete this thread if I could, but since I can't I apologize for wasting everybody's time.
I noted something similar on another thread. I think the rollout was badly designed and poorly executed. Both my Note and my tablet had almost the same things as you describe, but in different ways on each, with no explanations.
Same here too. Just because the name is ****ty doesn't mean the rollout has to be too.

You ever finding yourself picking up the phone, swiping down to unlock and the actual ring doesn't show up till AFTER you swiped? It's starting to be really annoying. Usually happens after a long standby as opposed to having used the phone recently. Sometimes even though the ring shows up it doesn't register my swipe the first time at all, even if done firmly.
How the hell can you develop muscle memory with a device that doesn't always react the same way to your input?
I hate having to slow down to cater to my device's (special) needs... It's driving me nuts
I'll be putting it up on swappa tomorrow if I can't find a solution.. if anyone wants, XT1058 bootloader and carrier unlocked
I switch phones a lot so nbd. I hate android's lack of consistency. Plagued every single android flagship device I've ever had in various ways. I think it's time I try WP8 =)
I'm less then 24 hours after a fresh wipe (RSD lite). Running very little apps. Nothing frozen in titanium, just rooted with TWRP recovery.

never had this issue unless you are referencing the active notifications which has nothing to do with android. If you are talking about pressing the unlock button then the unlock icon appearing and swiping that down (which is the only part that is part of android, then I have never seen this happen. If you are talking about active notification (which i assume you are because it swipes down while the android unlock screen swipes to the right i believe) then yes sometimes it doesn't appear for me but not in a lagging since. In that it just doesn't recognize i want active notifications to pop up. But its typically not when it has been in standby for a while but when i have been moving it a lot like in my hand. Either way, it typically pops up for me before i can even see the screen.
edit: android lockscreen unlocks in all directions not just down.

When you pick up the phone, the unlock ring appears. I'm saying the time it takes for it to appear is not consistent. This makes it impossible to develop the muscle memory needed to consistently unlock your device fast. It makes me feel like my phone can't keep up with me, something I've never had a problem with on the...dark side.
I wasn't referring to this as this as the sole reason as why I think android is consistent, but just one example out of many. Inconsistent scrolling, dropped frames during transition animations, app open times varying wildly even if precached, etc. I just don't think I'm an android guy, I can't ignore the crappy UI handling. Some people don't even perceive it as lag but for me it just jumps in my face every time. BUT that's subject matter for a different topic.

if you want to keep up with muscle memory then click the unlock button on the right and then unlock by swiping the lock on the screen like all the other phones on the market. It will work every time all the time with 100% accuracy/consistency. If you don't like the active notifications that Motorola built into the phone then don't use it. The inconsistency you are describing here is Motorolas fault, but it is their first shot at active notifications so I expect more bugs than I have seen so far.
But as i said before, mine either doesn't pop up or pops up before i can even look at the screen so I don't have the problem you do. And when it doens't pop up its typically because Im playing with in my hand then decide i want to use it and I have been tossing it all around. If it is sitting still or in my pocket and i pick it up it pops up the ring faster than I look at the screen. I doubt it but maybe it has to do with the twrp rooting method.
If I have to resort to that, 95% of what moto X brings to the table for me, is gone. At that point I might as well be using a nexus for the awesome dev support.
I would rather try to troubleshoot the issue since it IS software. It is evident because the method which you described brings up the phone instantly anytime anywhere so the hardware capability is there... i guess... lol.
No issues on mine, active notifications with and without notifications works every time, before the phone is completely flipped or out of my pocket, the pixels are fully lit. I'm stock non rooted though, but it works every time as it is intended.

No issue for me either. When I pickup the phone or take it out of my pocket, the ring is there. And I've experienced zero lag either in UI transitions or opening apps.
I've never experienced anything like this before. The performance of my X has been flawless.
I tested it a little bit more and I found you are right. I didn't notice it because I don't grab my phone and instantly try to unlock. When I did let it sit for 10 minutes or so and had the screen not flipped over so I could watch it there was a noticeable 1 second time difference as opposed to when I laid it down let the screen go dark then pick it back up. But for me I really had to grab my phone and try to unlock it before bringing it to my face for it to not pop up in time for my unlock swipe.

Hi all
I've got a couple of questions that i'd like some assistance on please.
I have an HTC one M7 running Android Revolution 83.1 (as i needed the call fix) and Elemental 18 (i think its 18) and sense 6 toolbox.
Since upgrading to 83.1 i'm having no luck getting push notifications come through, for example i'll be on the website and Google will tell me i have mail, the app never notifies me. I had 15 emails sat there this morning when i logged in but nothing according to the phone. This seems to be the case with any push notifications at all. Interestingly which may or may not be related, it seems to affect whatsapp too at least when the phone is plugged in and charging I've not managed to replicate this without it being plugged in yet.
The second query is a bit of an odd one. This being an M7 I've got the soft keys on the bottom of the phone screen. I've noticed on some apps there are "electronic" ones too. Is there a way to turn these off? Before upgrading to 83.1 i could change any setting in toolbox restart and they would be gone, the same trick now doesn't appear to work. Is this a ROM thing or something else? While not a big deal it takes up some space on screen and duplicates the buttons i already have which seems pointless. I've attached a screenshot for your viewing pleasure.
i ran a quick search and saw no appropriate topics for the push notifications and i wasn't entirely sure what to search for with regards to the appearance query so sorry if they've both been covered before.
thanks in advance for any helpful replies everyone
I have googled and searched everywhere and can't even find someone else having this issue. I have about a 2 week old note 8, and it happens any time, but I have made sure that it wasn't because the phone was locked, but for example, with the screen unlocked from the home page, I can pull down the notification bar, start scrolling down through my notifications and the whole bar will disappear, like I scrolled from the bottom to close it but didn't. Sometimes I swipe it down and it closes immediately, other times I can swipe it down and scroll through all my notifications and it will stay open, and sometimes it will close as I'm scrolling. I would think it was an issue with the touch sensor on the screen but in no other app does it randomly scroll anywhere. I've tried restarting the phone multiple times, with no fix. It just started doing this either yesterday or the day before and I can't think of any apps that I installed that would maybe cause anything like that. I haven't completely reset the phone because I don't want to and it would be pretty bad to have to reset it after 2 weeks.. Does anybody have any other thoughts or similar thing happening?
Is it possible that you have the fingerprint unlock set to allow you to pull down and push up the notification shade?
There is already a thread discussion for this. You are not the only one with this problem, I have it also.

thanks for the update. Didn't see that thread before. Looks like its not an isolated issue then..
I am hoping this will be a firmware/software issue. I currently have very little installed on my phone, so I am thinking it's fixable.
I use a fingerprint lock and after the last update I get this message quite a bit, perhaps hourly. It used to occur about every two days, which probably wasn't enough, but now having to type my rather complex password a dozen times per day is annoying. It's not like I even sat the phone down -- it stays in my pocket and sometimes does this despite never leaving my hand. I even use "SmartLock" with my bluetooth watch, which hasn't helped. Any idea short of a firmware downgrade to improve this?

I never have to use a password except just after a reboot, so having to do it once every two days is already abnormal to me
And I use smartlock with a bluetooth watch as well, that smart lock will ask me to use fingerprint after some idle time though
I searched for this issue for close to a month will no resolve.
Today I finally read what I've been experiencing!
My phone would jump to lock screen asking for pin while it was in in use with google apps and 3rd party apps.
I also had smartlock active @ home, my vehicle and BT devices.
In my vehicle while navigating with maps and on my bike using a trail map app it would go black screen/pin. It would also happen with spotify the screen would go black but ask for pin when screen was touched.
At home it would be in the news feed, messenger, FB, etc.....black screen/lock screen.
Numerous factory wipes and 3rd party apps deletions didn't resolve.
I started the warranty process with google. I wasted time with their CSR trying to T/S online. , I went to ubreakifix 3 times at google's insistence to get it rechecked, ubreakifix duplicated the issue and couldn't do anything for me.
They recommended replacement.
Google was hesitant because ubreakifix couldn't confirm a hardware issue. Ubreakifix wouldn't and couldn't diagnose hardware because they have no replacement parts for the Pixel 5.
Google agreed but would not send a device until my was sent back. They suggested going through my wireless provider for a loaner. My provider did but then they sent it off to their repair center instead of Google and found nothing abnormal and sent it back to me.
I just got it back yesterday after 2 weeks, I had one lock up yesterday.
I read that last night's security update resolved a "sensor" issue and I'm hoping that was the original issue.
This device is not on my recommended list.
I miss my 3XL, the size, the haptics, the squeeze are things I miss from that phone.
My kid reminded me everyday for the 10 days I was without mine.

This happened to me just once last night. Not sure why/what triggered it but fortunately it only has happened the one time.
