Podcasts outside of the USA - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know of a solution or workaround for subscribing to podcasts, and adding them to Xbox music on WP8 outside of the USA?
I've recently upgraded to WP8 (Lumia 1520) from WP7 (HTC Titan). A custom ROM and a registry alteration enabled podcast subscriptions directly on the HTC Titan, and even without that I could manually sync with Zune. Now I have 'upgraded' Zune doesn't even see my phone, so not even manual syncing is possible. I've managed to manually copy the files across using the file explorer, but they show up as music, albeit a podcast genre.
Is there a better option?
I tried searching the net but nothing obvious or any solution came up. Otherwise I wait in hope for WP8.1

Tunes Remote and ITunes 9

Hello,
Does somebody has experience with the Tunes Remote app and ITunes9?
I am able to connect to my Itunes and all the artists load. When I click on an artist I see his albums and the number of songs on this album, but when I open an album I get the message that there are no songs in this album. If I long press an album I can play the songs in it and the name and track information displays on screen. I can also skip songs etc. Is this normal behavior or just ITunes 9 related?
Does somebody also has used this app to control his apple tv? I am thinking about buying one.
Thanks in advance
I can't even get it to connect.. It wont find any shared libraries, and manual connection makes it see the android in iTunes, but after entering the pairing code 0000, it just disconnects, and starts the pairing again...
Anybody got it actually working, on itunes 9, on OSX?
Same problem here it wont even connect for me.
Hi!
I got the same problem... I start up TunesRemote (when my Hero is connected to WiFi), and my phone starts to search for libraries... it searches ... and it searches ... and it just keeps searching ! I doesn't give me any results or errors (like he couldn't find any libraries, or..) or anything!
Too bad, but ah well.. I still have the controls on my macbook although, I hope this will be fixed in an update. I don't know if this update has to come from Apple (of so, little change it's gonna happen ) or from the app itself... I'm guessing the app ? Anyone ?
Thanks !

Same problem here in OS X. Searching finds nothing, manual sees it in iTunes but doesn't pair on the phone. So I switched to GMote. It works.
Even tho I'm sitting here with a Desire, I guess I found the solution, noone essentially posted on the net yet. I kinda know, cause I've been trying to get the Tunes Remote working for 2 days straight now.
But I solved it. Or let me say, google did.
Here's what I had to do to make sure everything turns out fine:
(number 2a is the step most likely responsible for all the fuzz. But I tell you my whole journey)
1) itunes
a] share my library in the local network (settings -> sharing)
b] activate my computer in iTunes in the store to share content (yes, it needs an account. try it without. i don't know)
c] make itunes search for remotes (settings -> at the bottom)
2) computer (I have windows XP sp2)
a] deinstall bonjour
b] reinstall a clean bonjour (google bonjour print download) and make sure it's running (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> services)
c] essential: open the bonjour-necessary port 5353 (take the instructions from ehow regarding "How to manually open ports in Windows XP". and kill window's firewall. it's whack anyway)
3) handset
a] install Tunes Remote (you should know jsharkey's site by now) (you need to allow non-market apps)
b] start it and manually enter your computer's IP in the options (your IP can be found via ipconfig: run "cmd" and type ipconfig)
4) your home
a] enjoy control your itunes from anywhere
Hope this helps any of you guys who struggled and got angry at the no-help state of google regarding this topic. All in all it's been a really aggravating road, but the road ended in success and a proper itunes remote
I've got Tunes Remote working and I love it, but it doesn't stay paired once you shut down either the app or iTunes. Anyone got a fix on how to keep things paired (make iTunes and the app remember eachother so you don't have to pair them EVERY TIME you start iTunes)?

How do I save Streaming Media favourites?

Hi guys.
Simple question which search engines seem unable to answer: I'd like to be able to restore my Streaming Media favourites via Sashimi, so I'm trying to find out where they're saved. Anyone know?
Thanks
from the first day i opened my x1 box i never got streaming media to work, do you have a list of sites?
i dont know how to save bcos i was never successful in viewing anything using streaming media
I hadn't used it in quite some time as it usually didn't work, but it works on Yamgo.mobi for nearly-live British TV (with your 1.5+ ROM, Spike). I've added the major channels as favourites but it took about 10 minutes so I want to save my new channel list and add it to Sashimi Auto.
oh ok, thanks, will check it out and see how it works...

Import iTunes library to my Captivate

Hi,
I am avid reader of these forums, and finally pulled the trigger and got the Samsung Captivate (I had to stick with AT&T). I am relatively new to Android, and I was stunned but what I got with my Captivate!! (all due respect to my old beloved Tilt with WiMo). To think I was seriously considering iPhone 4
Anyway, I am yet to root the phone - will wait a few more days to get comfortable. For now I have been playing with a ton of apps etc.
I have a 100 GB iTunes Library which sits on my home server. I am looking for a solution where I can selectively sync certain albums and playlists to my phone. No point in carrying around 2 devices. I have already tried Double Twist. The problem is I need to install the client on my Laptop and get the music synced from the home server. I have got this working by manually adding 1 folder at a time - which is cumbersome, and not to mention that I loose artwork, ratings etc.
So, I am looking to [Home Server] <--> [Laptop] <--> [Phone]. At any point the source for this library is the Home Server, Laptop is only a pass thru.
Why use the laptop in the middle? I don't want to store media files here (work laptop).
Why not directly sync with the Home Server? It sits in the basement and I am lazy to go down the every time I want to sync that was my major irritant with iPod syncing.
Any recommendations?
Regards
Nick
Can't you set up home sharing in iTunes? That way you can see your library from your server on your laptop, and have doubletwist pull your playlist from that iTunes.
Home Server <--> Laptop --> DoubleTwist --> Captivate
I can't remember the exact steps, but I know you can pull from a home server like you are saying. Most people do it with their home theater set ups, but I don't see why it couldn't be done this way
I just use estrong file manager, and am able to get to my file shares via wifi. While this might work exactly like you want you won't have to plug in. just a thought.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-CAPTIVATE using XDA App
I found Doubletwist to be unstable. I used MediaMonkey. It supports playlists and syncing to mounted drives or media devices. If you mount your homeserver as a drive letter on the laptop, then MediaMonkey should work fine.
The free version did all i needed, but it doesn't sync video - just music.
Google is your friend.

This works with any android phone.

File Manager?

Has anyone found out if there is a File Manager? One which can access network shares on a wlan? Or one available as an app?
If no, sticking with Android...
There is no local File Manager. Apps that can access remote Network Shares are already available on WP7.5. Given that WP8 allows Apps to launch other Apps that support certain file types you could use one of those Apps (when they are updated to WP8) to grab a Video from your NAS-Box and launch it in the built in Video Player.

Great, thanks for the info. Could not find it googling. And you guessed what I'd like local and/or network share access for: playing media at home from the NAS. Will need to check out Windows Phone 8 at a store, maybe upgrade the phone hardware soon.

Most NAS boxes currently support UPnP or DLNA servers. This can be played through various software. Before jumping in I'd still wait to see if the required Apps are updated to allow for a seemless transition because at release the Apps are almost certain to not have been updated (given that the SDK was just released yesterday). So the possibility is there but at the moment the Software isn't really.
Might be worth checking wether your Media Files are currently stored in a format supported by the phone, given that similar to iOS WP is pretty picky when it comes to file formats.

[Q] MTP and MP3 tags

Since getting my HTC One 64GB, I've been wanting to use it as a media device in a manner similar to how I can use an iPod - I want to connect the HTC One via USB to a computer, and use a media-playing program (such as WinAmp) to play music directly off the device. While this part sort of works, I've found that the MTP interface on the One does not provide MP3 tags such as artist and album, which makes managing my music collection rather difficult!
For what it's worth, this problem only seems to occur with ROMs derived from Sense ROMs. If I use CyanogenMod, I get full MP3 tags available over MTP. My Samsung phones seem to work fine too, but they are old and lack storage space (they also can work in USB storage mode, which would also be a solution if available on the HTC One).
I know some media-playing solutions involve syncing the music over wireless but that's not practical for me - I am usually in locations with no access to wireless connectivity (wired networks only). I don't want to have to copy all the music to a local drive, either.
I guess I'd like to know if anybody had success with getting MP3 tags over MTP on the HTC One with a Sense-based ROM, and if so, how? Cheers
