I bought a new note 3 yesterday and I am noticing when I wake the phone I get a very quick bright flash of the screen before the lock screen appears. I believe the phone is trying to find the correct brightness level. When I turn auto brightness off the flash does not occur. Has anyone else seen this or could it be an issue with my hardware? any info would be greatly appreciated.
Hi,
I have the exact problem with my N900A as well. I don't have a solution either.

I think it is just a software issue with auto brightness. If I turn auto brightness off it does not give the bright flash. I wonder if alot of people have this happening or if its a defect.
Yes I only have that issue with auto bright turned on so I believe that's the cause

It's a normal. Maybe comming update solves it. It's only saving your battery
i have seen this one before, turn off automatic brightness, that solves it
search?

I just received my nexus and I thought the battery was dead cause it showed the battery icon briefly. I left it charging for an hour and nothing. I tried the flashlight trick on the screen and I could see the welcome screen. I disable the automatic dimming feature and now my screen turns on. It must be a software issue on the sensor. I don't know yet.
So you shine a flashlight at the ambient light sensor and it turns the screen back up? Like the sensitivity of the sensor is too low? I'll have to make a mental note of this for when mine finally comes in.
Yes if you can't see the screen. If it still doesn't work, shine the light on the screen and you should be able to see the welcome screen. I don't know if you ever had your laptop LCD inverter burn out?
Thanks for this post. I had the exact same problem. I struggled to get up and running, but figure it out with the help of my GNex.

Thanks for the info.
I had this problem and I'm getting mine replaced. This is almost certainly not a software issue, else everybody would be having it (and if it were a misconfiguration, it would go away with a flash of the factory rom).

Do a search for light sensor, and you'll find other people with this problem.

True, I can't even see youtube in landscape mode cause the screen will shutoff. I have to have it in portrait mode.
Sounds more like a hardware problem. A light should DIM the screen, not brighten it. The sensor is reversed.

So when you walk outside to the bright sun, you would want your tablet's brightness to be at the lowest setting? I doubt it
Hi all,
I picked my nexus 7 up yesterday and had a play around with it in the afternoon at work. When I got home it wouldn't turn on though. It appeared as though it was booting fine but the screen wouldn't turn on after boot.
A little googling around and I found a few threads describing the same situation blaming the problem on the automatic brightness settings.
I've reset the device to factory twice and even flashed the factory firmware again in hopes that it was a software problem. Alas nothing has fixed it. When the device is in dim lit areas the screen refuses to turn on. If the brightness is set to manual then there isn't a problem with the general use of the device although I did notice that the global brightness settings didn't seem to apply to some apps (Google Movies) and the screen liked to turn off while watching videos.
Anyway just wanted to put it out there that I believe this is another hardware problem that some people may dismiss without too much thought and use manual brightness.

Literally the same exact thing happened to me. Contacted google and they're replacing it
I have the exact problem!! At least you can initialise your device when unbox
I don't even have a chance to do that, as the screen light always turns off!!
I have contacted google for replacement, but it just takes me long time for a further response!
How disappointed!
Hmm, I would run GPS Status and Toolbox and test out the light sensor with that. If there is a hardware issue, the sensor probably won't detect light change at all.
I think had this problem, took it back to the store I bought it from the next morning
When I turned the screen brightness down manually, at a certain point and below, the backlight doesn't seem to be on?
The sales guy said it was a backlight issue and had no issues replacing it straight away
Got another one no problem, and tested in store and its behaving fine
Hello
I'm having an issue (don't know if it's known or not so don't judge) but my screen brightness is all the way up and regardless auto brightness is off the screen sometimes dims out on its own. Now I know the older s5 used to do it when the phone got hot but this is doing it regardless the phone is hot or not. It'll dim out then come back to max brightness or stay dormant. Anyone else having this issue and is it known? I'd love any and all answers if you can... thank you!
hey man i have the same thing with a galaxy s6 edge from romania,no worry the update will come and fix it
Hi all, my p30 pro, when the screen is woken up in the bright sun, it goes to max brightness. However after about 30 seconds the screen dials back the brightness to about 75%, and even if it manually move it back to 100%, the screen doesn't get any brighter. I have tried all the setting regarding the display, manual, auto, vivid etc. I have factory reset the phone as well. Any thoughts or ideas please?

Unfortunately no, I am still using it. But it is almost unusable under sunlight. Was hoping a software update fixed it, but no luck.
I forgot to ask what software version are you on and when the problems started.I have a mic problem too and I already changed the mic but although it's a bit better it's still not usable as before.
I am on emui 12. Can't remember when it started.
any solutions? on the newest version of the software my display doen not adjust automatically to the light outside. I do not even have this option. When I try to restore to the previous version by the hi suite I get a message that I have a problem with my Internet. I dont know if it worked on the previous one . I got it and installed the newest version. Any ideas?
