[Q] Downgrading on locked bootloader - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
I have searched the forum and I DO have got a lot of answers. But still I want to get some things clear before I go on.
I just got myself an Xperia Z. It was already updated to 4.3 .569. The phone has a locked bootloader and I found out that it CAN´T be unlocked. So there I´m stuck.
I was first thinking about following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590088
But then I got some more questions.
If I downgrade according to that guide... since I get a custom recovery, can I flash any custom ROM that is made for locked bootloader? Do I even have to use the 4.3 .569 used in the thread above or can I just downgrade and root then choose the ROM to my liking?
Thanx for all your help!

Downgrading
Dear friend:
1-the easy way::laugh:
2-Flash 4.2.2 with flash tool
3-Root on locked boot loader
4- Install Dual Recovery follow
5- Install 4.3/4.2 Pre-rooted or any other rom of your choice.

Once you've downgraded, rooted and have a custom recovery, you can use any rom you like, as long as it's a stock based rom for locked bootloaders.
You cannot flash anything based on CM/PAC/AOSP/AOKP etc as they require a custom kernel and therefore an unlocked bootloader.

[help] need infos on latest rom and latest root method

hello I am an old Z user , but it got stolen 6month ago...
I just got a new one, I'm not a noob but I'm lost on what is the latest rom to install and the proper way to root it as I'm sure old methods aren't working anymore...
from what I roughly understood, you need to unlock the bootloader now?
if yes I would need help on that!
(I heard about some "framework" stuff to install as well)
thanks for helping !

latest ROM is 4.3 - build number 10.4.1.B.0.101
You only need an unlocked bootloader if you want custom ROMS such as CM, PAC etc with custom kernels. Cant flash custom kernels if on locked bootloader
Unlock bootloader - http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/tutorial-xperia-z-zl-bootloader-t2153261
To root you will need to be on a 4.2 ROM, once rooted you can install a recovery then you can install a rooted 4.3 ROM or custom ROM
Follow this method to root on stock rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327472
(additional guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/guide-how-to-root-101-firmware-lb-t2656698)
Follow this method to gain recovery - http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/general/ub-lb-xzdualrecovery-xperia-z-qa-thread-t2477769
Should be ready to flash stuff
thanks a lot!!!
was lost into all the new infos...
so to install 4.3 - 10.4.1.B.0.101 no need to unlock, right?
(I only need the sony rom)

Correct, you do not need to unlock the bootloader if you are going to install the 4.3 - 10.4.1.B.0.101 ROM.
You can either do this on flashtool by flashing a 4.3 FTF or you can root and install recovery and flash a rom zip file

Root status Bootloader unclock: No

Hello friends,
This is a rather stupid question, I know, but I SCOURED the posts about this topic, and my phone is already SIM free [paid], yet bootloader is unlockable even by unofficial FlashMode, I read somewhere this can be fixed but it's not very specific how to.
Frankly, I dont even care for bootloader, All I want is to flash to ParanoidAndroid and have the phone rooted, But for that I need CWM from what I gathered, and so - I need root - And I can't get freaking root on my 4.3 official ROM [this phone is 6616 by the way).
I will consider giving donation to the fellow who finds me an proper solution! [if he/she accepts such]
You cannot run PA on a locked bootloader. PA (or any other non-stock based custom rom such as CM, AOSP, AOKP etc) requires a custom kernel. A custom kernel will not run on a locked bootloader.

im still wondering, now after the 4.4.2 update, if there are any ways to easily root this phone in its current bootloader status. i understand that custom roms are not [which is plain stupid sony!!!] but it'd be nice to even have just root
thanks friends

Easiest way to get rooted on 4.4.2 on a locked bootloader is to roll back to 4.2.2, root 4.2.2, install a recovery manger such as XZR then flash the ROM, connect to a computer and use flash tool to flash the kernel. Boot and have fun!

He has a C6616, which has a permanently locked bootloader. It cannot be unlocked with that or any other method.

[Q] How to root my phone

Ok, it's not like I didn't had search how to do it, it's just that so far my search has been very frustrating.
First, my phone has stock rom, v. 12.1.A.1.201 with JB 4.3. And I just want to flash a stock rom (maybe a little tweak to make it smooth and faster) + root.
So I searched (maybe not too good) how to do it, and I found this: to install any rom, you need to have an unlocked bootloader, so far so good, but then when you search on how to unlock it, surprise! you need to be root to backup drm keys ... Ok then, I tried another aproach, maybe flashing from custom recovery, but then again to install a custom recovery you need to be rooted ... back to the begining.
So if anyone can enlighten on how to fulfill my very reasonable request, I would be sooo happy.
No need to unlock bootloader in order to flash stock based ROMs or for rooting. But for flashing custom kernels/ROMs that need a custom kernel, unlocked BL is a must.
There are many guides. Check through this index.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618222
It's sticky btw
Basically you have to (because you're locked BL),
1. Downgrade to 4.1.2
2. Root with DoomLord method.
3. Install recovery.
4. Flash a pre-rooted 4.3 ROM (.201) through recovery. Flash SuperSU update at the same time. Shutdown phone (NOT reboot).
5. Flash stock 4.3 kernel (.201) via flashtool.
6. Done. On rooted .201. Then install a recovery (because previous recovery got erased with ROM flashing).
#Details in guides. Good one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2727143
**Optional: Do a TA partition backup and keep it safe. Someday you can unlock the BL
You can follow mrhnet's post that helped me solve my dilemma! You can downgrade your phone, exploit root, flash recovery, flash SuperSU and then backup TA. Once TA backed up, the freedom is finally yours!

Can someone please help me..
I have an Xperia SP currently running 4.1.2 rooted, bootloader locked.
My aim is to upgrade to 4.3.3 and root, for which i will have to unlock the bootloader. To do so I need a TA partition backup , for which again, root is required.
So, my question is that is it okay if I take a TA Backup now [in 4.1.2] and then upgrade OTA and unlock bootloader, root and then restore the 4.1.2 TA backup onto 4.3.3 in order to restore DRM keys and Relock the bootloader?
Has anyone done this?
is it safe?

Why don't you install a recovery and after that flash a pre-rooted 201???

You don't have to unlock bootloader. You can flash a prerooted rom with built in 201 stock kernel

Just go to the Android development section, and you'll find plenty. You can also choose to flash a stock based rom. I went from 254 to existenz 3.3.0 (which is 201)

For downgrading see my tutorial in link below (flashing with flashtool)
For rooting that 4.1.2 see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440375
and for CWM installation see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2649923
I'd love to see you guys use search a bit more! This question has been asked a lot

Rooted with towelroot.What next?

Dear all,
I have rooted my device which is running 4.3 (c5502) (build number: . 101) with towelroot. Now i need to install any custom ROM. I came to know that it requires to install recovery first before flash any ROM. I stuck there..Can you please guide me. I didn't unlock my bootloader yet but I had my TA backup with me.Thanks in advance guys.
whatever u need to know is already there. just search for it. if u expect to be spoonfed then you really shouldn't mess with your phone
The thing is, do we really need to unlock boot loader to flash custom roms, or can it be closed just with root and recovery?
No one tryed it till now I think.
Greetings.

Yes for flashing custom Roms the bootloader must be unlocked and a recovery must be installed however if you want to flash a stock based Rom unlocked boot loader is not needed. Just Root and Recovery needed for flashing the stock based Roms. Correct me if i am wrong.

[Q] How to root unlocked bootloader

Hi!
I have unlocked my bootloader a long time ago and mostly use AOSP-based roms, but I was wondering.... What is the easy way to root an unlocked Xperia Z?
Ik know there are a lot of threads how to root 4.4.4 on a locked bootloader and that I can use those methods, but it just feels like unlocked bootloaders should get a golden ticket to rooting stock roms.
So what makes an unlocked bootloader stand out? How do I root stock 4.4.4, unlocked-style?
Thanks!
Flash Dual Boot recovery with Philz Touch CWM Advanced Edition and TWRP, boot into recovery then flash a SuperSU zip. Done.

Follow above method or simply flash a custom kernel using flashtool.
Thanks!
