[Q] Turn the volume down button off on my xperia Z? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys! Just bought a phone from a friend and everything is working as it should (I was told about the volume down button being broken) , but I did not think that would bother me much.. Except.. The phone boots in safe mode, AT ALL TIMES, making me unable to install new apps and such, and that does bother me.. ALOT. So my question is.. Is the any way to remove either the safe mode function alltogether, or just disable the volume down key in any way? I know its broken, but I really dont need the volume down function, I just need it to not be in my way.
And I would like to do this at home, not sending it away for 4 weeks and then get it back, probably without the problem even beeing fixed, dont have much faith in the so called "pros"..
Thanks!

no way,i think.because it's a factory-configured default way to boot in safe mode with vol. down key
try to repair your phone

I saw someone on a swedish forum that had disabled some vol.tkr or vol.mngr or something like that, but I dont know how to do that and he just wrote that he had found the solution on some forum in english.. There should be a way since phones are more like small computers nowadays.. Just dont know how :-/

EDIT: That might work only at run-time sadly. If you want it to work right from boot, then I am afraid we need to make changes to the kernel. I can modify the kernel for you if you are ready to unlock your bootloader.

Hi! I understood nothing of that Do I download and install the app? The problem is that I cant install anything new, since the phone is in safe mode :/
How do I unlock my bootloader and can I lock it again afterwards?

Flashed to Valkyrie and for sudden volume button not working...

Guys plz help me. I have flashed my X1i to Valkyrie last days and for sudden the volume button is not working, not even for entering bootloader for changing rom.
Have anyone experienced this? Is there any solution? The button was working and after flash not anymore, this way i think it is not broken, and just a compatibility issue with my hardware, but i cant say why this happening.
Any help wellcome.
Regards, Eduardo.

You use Agent rom and you never search at his thread??? Are you......????
Ok guys, sry, i though was a problem with my phone, not a ROM issue. I just have not seen anything about that on bugs issue on his post.
I will search that, sry for the inconvenience, and ty much for pointing out the solution.
oo sorry
did i forget to mention that i secretly put a virus to kill ur hardwares......keep it for a lil more than a day now and ur device wont even boot
PS: @ all : there is no need to worry for u guys, the virus is only effective when it detects OP's IMSI number
Hey, u dont need to make a joke on me, right? The thing is that the HARDWARE button is not working. For volume, for bootloading, etc... and i cant find a solution on your post, and i dont think its a ROM problem, never told that, ok Agent?
The problem is that Valkyrie post has more than 1k posts... should i read it all?
Ty again for pointing the solution.
You could try another rom... and if it still doesn't work... think it's really HW problem... need to be fixed or replaced.
Thats the problem, how to flash another ROM if i cant enter bootloader?
then this is not your world kid, find a way ...
Yeah, i notice everyone that use this site is an expert hacker that know how to do ROMs and stuffs... here i have no room.
Ty for helping.
No more talking required, just did corrected my problem, YES, i found a sollution that is not written here, and since every1 here knows much more than me, there is no need to share.

Use the RUU tool and flash via usb. It will go into tri color bootloader automaticly

I have been using this forum for a while now and most of the experts are quite rude when you do something slightly wrong - so don't worry about it. This is still a great resource so keep posting...

Interesting, seems to be happening to a few people... may be related to this thread, too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618760
Maybe something related to some of the latest WM6.5 builds? Anyway, glad you found a solution. killer8nl posted a good way to get another ROM loaded (RUU tool and USB) to see if that fixes it for those who still have the problem.

And if your on Windows 7 x64 like me, and you don't want to get in unsigned driver mode all the time, just copy the file attached to your SD card and run it on your phone, it will restart in bootloader
I always use this since my volume down key isn't working like it should either, i think it is just sort of broken, due to pushing it way to many times, to flash every day
ok, can I remind people of the forum rules
1. Search before posting

If you feel someone has created a thread for no reason, report it, do not respond with a lack of respect. We want to encourage people to use XDA, not be rude to them and scare them off!! What do you mean you rooted it? Do you mean you unlocked the bootloader (that's entirely different, by the way), or something else?
What exactly have you flashed on it and how (specifically) did you do it?
It's kinda irrelevant how he got there. I can't think of any way to access a phone that won't boot - can you?
Sounds like a hardware failure
i meant by rooting that i unlocked it and installed a rom like cyanogenmod and modaco but both didnt work, i mean when i power it on, it get stuck on the X in the boot menu.. and now it wont boot to this menu and i cant access the bootloader..
well i thought that since i cant access the bootloader then i wont be able to do anything but i thought that i can ask here since guys u are expert with this phone so if u can think of anyway to reset the mobile... and i hope its not a hardware failure :S
anyway thank you so much for answering me

Not totally irrelevant. Depending on what he tried to flash it could be truly bricked. Sounds like it could be but didn't want to jump to that conclusion.
I have the same problem here... Cant access to the bootloader menu my phone cant do anything except charging and vibrating 3 times while I'm trying to power-on it
cant see nothing on the screen . always black screen
Before what is happening now I tried ROM Modaco & Cynogenmod with recovery image Amon_RA
Note: My Nexus One is bootloader UNLOCKED.
ThankYou Guys..

Home button not working??

Hey guys! I hope you can help me D:
My Galaxy S:
CM7 latest update #57 or so
Kernel: glitch v11 (also doesnt work with standard kernel)
Since today my homebutton isnt working correctly. It only works for getting into recovery and into download mode.
If i press it in the keytest in cwm recovery it isnt recognized, same when the phone is booted :-S
I reflashed the update with deleting the cache but that doesnt work D-:
Have you guys any idea? :-/
Thanks

Should i send it to samsung? :-/

I'm sorry, but I think that's your only choice.. To me, it seems like a hardware-related malfunction..
Hmmm yes i think youre right.

I will flash samsung original firmware, maybe it works ^^

If it does: great!
If it doesn't: RMA must be the way..
you have to send your phone to Samsung services it'll be best solution i think.
Dudeeee, what on earth man? RMA should only be treated as a last resort. Don't give up so easily. He hasn't even tried flashing back to stock roms.
He already said it works for getting into recovery and download mode, which indicates it's working to some degree.
OP, flash that stock firmware and tell us what happens.

So how do you think he has access to recovery???.......He mentionned he was able to go into recovery mode, basically, the home button works.
I'm pretty sure it's a software related problem.
Go with the stock rom first and tell us the result.
Nope.
Im on stock rom now..
The home button is not working
I got into Download mode with Volume down and Turn-on-button
I havent touched the home button at all
Dont know why thats working ^^...
Tommorow im bringin it to the Shop for RMA
OR do you have some Ideas
It is as though your home button is stuck to "on".
I fear that the next step is to rma.

Do you find the inconsistency? No?
I'll help you out: at first, you paint me as a fool, because you're too blind to read my post correctly.
Just one post later, you suggest what I was suggesting since my first (or second, can't remember right now) post.
Result: read first, think second, think again, _then_ - and only then - post, but stay polite at _any_ time!
Had the exact same issue with the button working for booting into recovery and download mode.
Sorry to say this is hardware related and I hope your rma is accepted.
I took mine to the repair centre and they told be it is water damaged. I never dropped it in water though.
Also the home button is glued to the whole freaking screen. The samsung part comes as the whole lcd assembly with the buttons with it so I was quoted 245 dollars.
You can buy the button online but I digest you to have a look on YouTube for the dude that disassemble the phone. You will see how hard it is
By the way, my button stopped working for recovery as well although now of o press hard on it it does work (for booting and in the OS).
last but not least, you will learn how to use the phone without the home button
Good luck with the rma

help required with samsung t899m :(

Hi..
Facing this problem with my phone..have tried a lot of googling but couldnt find anything..was just able to install the drivers for qualcomm msm..phone is not going beyond this screen after starting..any help is appreciated..
Well, that's less bad than what happened to *my* T899M... Have you tried hitting the Windows button to start recovery, as the screen suggests? Alternatively, you may be able to do a boot-time hard reset (the kind done by holding some buttons - I forget which ones, but it's documented online - while turning the phone on) since you were able to get as far as the Windows bootloader.
Without knowing more about what in particular has died, I can't really help.
hitting windows button doesnt do anything. although i was able to enter into something by holding the vol up+ power..but dunno what to do after that..
hard reset doesnt work either..im not able to reach the "exclamation" screen.the phone just vibrates and goes looping the windows screen..
any suggestions please..?? seems like a paper weight in the making..

First : start explaining when this happend ?
did you update the phone with the Cortana alpha firmware ? ( the last update on preview for developers)
if you did that then you can sent your phone back because there is no rom for your phone , only repair center can help you with that.

[Q] Xperia SP multitouch problem?

Hey,
I just noticed that when I'm pressing the screen with one finger, then trying to hold another finger while still holding onto the screen, there is a small delay in recognising the 2nd finger...
This only happens after 30 minutes of usage, as the multitouch works just fine for a while after powering up.
The delay is not that much, but is enough to not recognise when I'm simply tapping the screen, which makes it impossible to play games like fifa 14 properly, since I have to hold down the button for a while to have a response...
I'm currently rooted, on stock 12.1.A.1.205, on the stock kernel.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Yeah I also have multitouch problem. Can't play games that require multitouch(fifa,mc5 etc)
I think it is hardware problem
Quick question dude...did you try a factory reset?
I'm thinking of trying it but I don't want to lose my data without fixing it...
Can anyone confirm that this is a hardware problem?
I have the same problem, and I'm sure isn't a hardware problem because it started when I updated the phone to the 12.1.A.1.205 version.
I also have a problem with the back key, it works for a couple of clicks and it stop working until I press the home key. This happens after the update as well, before all has working fine. It's annoying!

I thought I was the only one with the back key problem. The multitouch one I never tested.
This is why I moved to CM11 (also because of ThemeChooser :silly: )

Sorry to ask this, but, what is CM11?
CM11 is a custom ROM (basically a whole new operating system). And it's based on android 4.4.4
I used to be on CM11, it is so good, but I prefer Sony's UI.
Also, thanks for the help. Since this isn't a hardware problem I'll try a factory reset and see what happens...

I don't think factory reset would work because I keep flashing different roms with complete wipe.
Apparently a factory reset didn't help...neither a firmware upgrade...
So it has to be another thing causing it....

Bad news with the reset then
I had to reboot my phone in safe mode (I think this is the name in English, "modo seguro" in Spanish) and the multitouch seems that doesn't fail in this mode. So I think is some program that is loaded with a normal boot which is causing the trouble.

Hmm But there are programs that start automatically. I killed every process I don't use, and I'm testing if it works.
I'm fresh out of a factory reset, so I don't really have any apps installed except titanium backup and es file explorer. I also killed every app except the ones that the phone needs to work properly....still no change.
After a random amount of minutes it works fine, without doing anything...
Also a question: How did you test it in safe mode? You can't have your downloaded app on safe mode to test it..

Sad news...
After trying everything, from settings to scripts and touch boosting apps, I left my hopes on changing the ROM i use...
I had a stored backup of my 4.3 stock rom in the past. I restored it today and the problem persists...
I also flashed a fresh new build of cyanogenmod 11, which I used in the past aswell. No help...
I can now conclude that this is a hardware problem.
But what I don't understand is...why does this only happen after 30+ minutes of usage of the phone?
I mean it works perfectly fine on games when I start up the phone...
Thanks to everybody for the help...
