[Q] After update to .136 double system memory - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
Quick newb question;
I was on 4.3 .290 rooted NUT before updating to .136 rooted NUT.
I followed all the steps and performed a TWRP backup before installing .136. I did however also check system as backup.
When I rebooted phone after everything was completed I went from 800MB internal memory used to about 2GB used. Is this because I also did a backup of the system and not only data in TWRP? Can I undo this?
Thanks in advance,

This is normal. It should be like that. If everything working leave it in this way.

[Q] Regain System Write Capabilities?

Long story made short...
I've been sitting on my stock rooted 4.1.2 (1.29.651.10). I used the Viperboy Zip to disable the system write protection.
Yesterday I finally decided to update.
I made my nandroid, relocked my bootloader, and ran the 1.29.651.10 RUU to get everything back to stock.
I booted into system, took at the sprint updates. On 4.4.2, everything seems to work besides the lockscreen weather widget. (IDK)
Re-unlocked, re-flashed TWRP, re-rooted and proceeded recovering my titanium backup files.
While I do appear to have root and can make modifications to the system, they all restore themselves upon a reboot. Is there any easy way to get system write access back? I am unable to remove the bloatware and make other modifications to the system right now?

[Q] What's the best way to update to 4.4.4 WITHOUT losing root with root apps intact?

Hey all!
I'm eager to upgrade my Sony Xperia Z1 to the latest and obviously greatest Android 4.4.4, but I've recently installed so many apps, both root and non-root that I do not want to do this over again. I finally got Timeshift Video working (took me longer than it should have, I'll admit) and I just don't want to go through the process again. So the question is: is there a way to update while keeping all data from apps intact, and will all root apps from 4.4.2 even work on 4.4.4 still?
Thanks in advance!

In order to keep your apps just do not select data before flashing. Now for the root I rooted my phone with a very strange way. I flashed the .108 ftf and then with adb i flashed the doomkernel(v21) to my phone. Then I booted up my phone and enter one of the recoveries (TWRP) select reboot and before rebooting it will give you the option to install super user. After this i powered off my phone (in recoveries reboot options) and connected my phone in flash mode to my computer. With flashtool i went to flash the .108 ftf BUT I didnt wipe anything and i excluded everything exept the kernel. When this finished I booted up my phone and it was rooted.
I just say what i did do not blame me for anything as if you follow my way you do it with your responsibility.(press thanks button if i helped  )

[Q] Migration to Android 5.0

Hi,
I have a Motorola Moto G XT1068 - Dualsim, german version. I unlocked the bootloader and installed CWM PhilZ. OTA update does not work so I just skipped it until Android 5.0 is out now.
Questions:
1) I am using Titanium Backup Root for backing up my Apps, SMS, phone lists etc. I did not get any support from them if and how it will work on Android 5.0 due to the rumors that root is harder to enable. Any other update strategies, which programs do you use? ADB?
2) Which Rom (Fullrom?) do i have to flash in order to get Android 5.0 via OTA?
Thx for your answers
AFAIK no flashing of ROM is necessary as long as you're on stock. What you need is a stock recovery. I reckon you flash that ASAP.
Also, you might need to look into your system apps and make sure that you haven't deleted/disabled or converted to user apps.
Besides these steps, you'll be fine and will be able to update.

You have to install stock firmware and re-lock your bootloader. The guide to install stock firmware is on the general sub-forum and should be here.
I suggest using SMS Backup & Restore to backup your SMS. However, I recommend waiting until root is out to flash Android L. Then you can use Titanium Backup to restore your user apps & data.
I'm running L myself so I have to patiently wait for root. Good news though! The Moto X got a root solution by chainfire for Android L already. This means we could get root soon for Moto G.
Thank you for your answers so far.
I downloaded stock rom yesterday and planning to migrate today, due to the fact that a solution for rooting XT1068 comes near.
I just hope i got the right Stock Rom Version for german version and - always a bit worried that someone has put malware in the roms posted on fileshares.
Now I have to find out the right steps with ADB.
Full wipe, wipe cache, wipe dalvik and restore partition required as I am used to do with Samsung crap due to other mounting of sd card? Always did it with CWM the times before and never had to relock bootloader. But I have also read that locking is not required for flashing 5.0.
Okay, lazy saturday, I am going to find it out myself

Nope, no re locking required. Just do the samsung needful. I had one of its ****ty mobile too. So hi5 there.
Anyways, I don't understand why are doing this stuff. Most probably a flashable zip would be uploaded on XDA the same day or max the next day. Just chillax and wait for the good news to arrive, which I hope is any day now
P.S Oh and also make sure that you don't lock your bootloader at all. Because then you wouldn't be able to unlock it, at least not right now, hence you wouldn't be able to root.

[Q] How to downgrade to Kitkat from Lollipop without losing any data?

I'm using locked rooted Kitkat,
updated via Sony PC Companion without wiping anything
after the updating to lollipop, it charges so slow, even when it's turned off
I used all the chargers here.
I'm planning to go back to kitkat without losing any app data.
I have no recovery and not rooted in lollipop. What can I do?

Backup your data using Titanium Backup or something app like that, and copy your backup OUT from your phone.
You can't downgrade WITHOUT wipe internal storage, because Sony implement encryption by default, as Google recommended it for used in Android 5.0.x
You can try downgrade without wipe internal data, if you don't believe what I say xD
I believe in you, But it's just hard to backup my data esp using titanium backup because im not rooted.
I think your only option is to wait for a Root method for Lollipop that does not require a downgrade first so you can use Titanium again. I tried to keep Data last night when I downgraded in prep for a rootable re-upgrade, and it froze during boot. Trying again while wiping the Data partition worked flawlessly.
Honestly, unless there's something stuck in there that you absolutely can't do without, your best bet would be to just take the loss and format the Data along with your downgrade.
I was eager to wait for the root without wiping data on lollipop.
But last night I solved my problem, I uninstalled Xposed and the apps from Xposed.
My phone is not discharging so fast now.
hello guys ,, dev.
i have problem with downgrading lollipop to kitkat on sony c3 d2505 it stop on flashing looder and there is no blue light on phone led .... please help what to do ??

[Q] Root and Encryption? (Bootloader locked, Rooted, Firmware 23.0.1.A.5.77)

Hello everyone
I have now finally been able to root my beautiful Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. The bootloader is still locked. I did downgrade the Firmware in order to root the phone. Afterwards I made a backup of the DRM Keys via TA Backup. Additionally I updated the Firmware to 23.0.1.A.5.77. As the bootloader is still locked I did not install any kind of custom ROM and I am yet not planning to do so. The Sony ROM will probably do a good job. (My old phone is a Sony Xperia P which is now running with Root Sony's ROM since 3 years at least)
I am running on KitKat 4.4 and also not planning to change. I have a 64GB SD card in my phone as well.
Now my question:
Can I still use the encryption function or will this interfere or make problems because I have root (Bootloop)?
I am not planning to encrypt the SD card because I do not need encryption on the SD card but encryption for the Android System would be nice.
Thanks for your help guys :good:
Best wishes,
Dicey
No idea guys? Did no one ever try this before?

I'd like to know this as well.
I tried this today. Left it encrypting and when I came back it said encryption had been interrupted and it then did a factory reset, after which I was unable to enter custom recovery.. As I had chosen to encrypt the SD I was left with an empty SD card too.
Somehow I kept root so I was able to install XZDualRecovery again and then restore from nandroid backup.
There's a thread on androidforums where Samsung owners have reported success with temporarily disabling SuperSU while running the encryption.

Anyone tried this method or found another way to achieve root + encryption? It's the only thing keeping me from rooting again.
