Updated: Robbed Selling Phone on Craigslist in Atlanta |Robbers in Police Custody Now

So I'm selling a phone on craigslist...a guy calls me this morning wanting to buy my phone...I go to meet up with him at a QT gas station in Decatur, Ga....to make a long story short, there were two guys and they robbed me for my phone and drove off.........well....long story short....my car is faster than theirs and they quickly found out that I had an assault rifle in the car...my phone was promptly returned to me. Then next thing I know, I get a call a few hours later from someone telling me they saw my story on the news...but the guys who robbed me are on the news crying victim (saying they got robbed). Well anyway I went to Dekalb County Police and showed them the receipt for the purchase of the phone, craigslist ads, and online auction ads, and I easily proved I own the phone. Now there's a warrant out for the arrest of the guy who is on the news pretending to be a victim. Moral of the story: You guys out there who use Craigslist..BE CAREFUL!!....especially in Atlanta.

Update: The guy who gave the bogus news story is now in police custody (as of 9pm last night) and is facing robbery charges. I interviewed with the reported today and they will broadcast an updated story today. I will post it up when it airs.

omfg thats epic, there are LOTS of craigslist robberies (myself included, but got my laptop back), and i love hearing the retaliation stories, this is on the top 3 for sure

Yeah I spoke with Tom Jones over at Channel 2 and informed him of what really happened and the fact that the police will be picking him up (if they haven't already). I also pointed out to him the inconsistencies in his story (the same inconsistencies the detectives noticed from the beginning). He said, when they ran the story they weren't able to speak to anyone besides the guy who robbed me...so they didn't have anything real to go on....my thing is if you couldn't do any fact checking then why the heck did you run the story?!....

at least it had a happy ending!

Story is confusing. It starts of correct talking about the seller got robbed but half way through the article they make it seem like the buyer went after the seller with a gun.

Yeah he's definitely a dumb criminal. He could have just left, and we would have only had a phone number to go on, and probably would never have caught him. But because he was dumb enough to get on the news, and make a false statement to the police, they have his information. And as it turned out, HE HAD PRIORS TOO! lol The cops showed me a picture lineup and had me pick him out. Now he'll soon be behind bars where he belongs.

hahaha thats an important life lesson in the XDA world
i bought my S4G off craigslist, cash in hand, and the system ive worked out for buying/selling work pretty well for tech.
i got him to put my sim in the new fone, turn it on and show its carrier unlocked, if all is well, do the handoff, let him count the ducketts, and we were on each others way in less than 5 min
also it was done in a subway station, so lots of ppl, lots of cameras and a friend standing nearby nonchalantly
but if you have an assault rifle, he is your best friend in that situation

Great story! But one thing... an assault rifle in the car!? Your allowed to have assault rifles!?!? Damn California.... I cant have jack **** here. Pretty funny those robbers didnt have any idea what they were getting into. How did they rob you in the first place? Did they pull a gun or what?

glad it all went well. sometimes robbers **** with the wrong people and get what they deserve.
I dont do craigs list. Too sketchy, rather sell on ebay and not make as much money.

Hello,
I am writing to reach out to this wounderful community. Today my 2 year old was diagnosed with leukemia and an unknown viral disease. As you all know this is never good news but it is even harder for us as it was right in the middle of a major move for us from Ohio to Georgia. Unfortunetly I have to proceed with the move and will be about 700 miles from my wife and daughter as they will be staying in Ohio for treatment at Akron Childrens Hospital. I will be flying from Georgia to Ohio as often as I can.
It breaks my heart to see my daughter going threw this. It is especially hard for me because I am a paramedic and I can't fix this.
Please keep my wife and daughter in ur prayers.

Today she gets her med port. We did get some good news. She has the most common type. It will be a long road of treatment but we should have a great outcome. Thank you all for the prays.

Those medical threatments develop very fast over the years. I'm nearly sure they can handle it and find a way to threat both diseases.

As the others have said, medical advancements around the world are happening every second and many conditions can now be either cured or treated. I can't imagine what your going through but can say when I was a baby I was dying from something that nobody could diagnose or figure what what was going on. Well, to make a long story short, roughly 27 years later I'm alive and well. I was treated at Akron Childrens Hospital They saved my life. Your little girl is in good hands.

My prayers are with you, your wife, and your little angel (what's her name?). I have a 21 month old daughter, so I can only imagine the heartbreak you are going through.
My wife and I have had a couple medical emergencies in the past couple years. Nothing nearly as stressful as what you are going through. But every time, I was always amazed at the level of caring and expertise on all levels of the medical community. I don't have to tell you this, since you are a paramedic yourself. But the doctors and nurses can really work wonders. And as already mentioned, your daughter is in good hands. Stay strong and optimistic.
I know nothing can truly take your mind off your daughter's situation. But hopefully the cool community here at XDA can at least supply you with a few moments of distraction here and there, to keep you from getting too stressed out.

I've recently come across copious amounts of money ($100), and I am unsure whether or not to spend it. I could become a billionaire if I invest in the right things, but there's only a 50% chance of that happening. Maybe I should go on an Ebay run and try to purchase more worth than I have spent (last time on Ebay I got $27 worth of assets with only $25, because I was refunded for an item that took too long to ship). So Strangers, what should I do with my funds?

Lol but you only have one day. If market is up you have $0.02 but if market goes down your stock is worth $0.00 which means its never going back up.

Exactly. It's less about the individual stocks and more about the overall value. It's not as risky as it sounds although it's always gonna be a gamble.

[help] car accident

Hi, I'm mostly active in the htc rezound forums but I just want some perspective from someone who knows about my situation.
Here's what happened.. I was traveling home from a town an hour out. My wife, infant son, and I were all in the car. I saw cars ahead pulled over and people outside theirs cars, so instinctively I attempt to slow down.. Big mistake.. The road was all black ice and I instantly began to spin sideways. I was only able to slightly correct the car and still ended up going off the side of the road at 70mph (going the speed limit) . We flipped about 2 3/4 times landing on the passenger side.
Everyone was ok, baby was still asleep
Anyways, I am only insured with liability.
My car was paid off, but now I'm stuck without a car, no way to get to and from anywhere. I don't know anyone in my area besides Co workers and I need a car.
Is there any thing I can do to squeeze some very needed money out of this situation? I will probably get about 300 for the totaled out car. I feel so wronged like I was jipped out of my car and almost lost my life and/or family
Anyone who has had something like this happen (icy roads) I need some advice please. There was nothing I could do, there was no salt on the road, multiple accidents occurred before they finally shut down the highway a few miles back.

Yes and yes, made an insurance claim.. I'm waiting on a call from the agent now. I told them about the ambulance ride we received and that they checked out all three of us at the hospital.

Just seeing if anyone else has been in this situation.. Not looking for insurance fraud or advice on suing the city. Just maybe if there's any other type of claim I can file... Like I said I just feel wronged because the roads should have been maintained.. The last time there was precipitation was about 5 hours before the accident.. It just seems like there should have been some type of warning or precautions or something :/

Well, my sister got hit by a Oakland city bus. She is ok now, it knocked her off her bike, bad cut on her elbow, and a dislocated shoulder. It was clear it was the bus drivers fault. Witnesses and everything. Despite all this the lawyer says it's still going to take at least a year for her to see any money, probably longer. The moral of the story, getting money from a city is no easy or short process.

I doubt you're going to get any kind of money since you only have liability and black ice probably falls under an act of nature or some such. I don't see how the city would be on the hook for anything.

I don't think the city is liable to pay anything, though maybe you can squeeze out some more money from the insurance company.
If you have a lawyer friend, have him read all the clauses, terms, conditions etc of the insurance agreement and see if there is any scope.
Insurance companies only pay the depreciated value of your car. You need to check up whether the depreciated value of your car is what they are paying you.
Having your insurance claim fully accepted is rare. Best of luck.

There is probably nothing you can do and no additional money you can get. Having liability only is a dangerous game imo, full coverage can save your butt.

Hind sight is 20/20. Considering you have a family with a very small child, you should have had planned better for this. Liability only is for those who know if their car is wrecked, it isn't worth fixing and have money available for another car if something happens.
I have always carried full coverage on paid off cars since I hit a deer when I was 17.
Best bet is to buy another car. If you have really bad credit, best chance is probably drive time

However, these friends are NOW more interested in buyin' the Nexus 5 (change of heart :silly: ) cauz of which me has two coupons nearing expiration..

Guess you didn't quite get the message then, did you? It isn't allowed if you're trying to sell it (which you are), so delete it.
Oh, and BTW, no one is going to buy them. There are many people still giving them out for free.
