Hey i know this is a dead issue i was reading the other thread that got closed and it had a download link. Was that for our phones or the new s4? I only ask cuz i seen you in there. Sorry if this isn't the place for it. But the download link downloads so does that mean the kernel is there ? It made me agree to there "Don't blame us if your s#it dies" terms but its downloading. Thats not a good thing is it?

Theres a download link for the source code for the kernel only. So unless you know how to compile source its not worth much to the regular user. So don't download or flash it. We will have to wait for a update to come out for Roms to be built.

Why do people ASSUME that someone didn't search first? I mean, do YOU always get a hit when you do a search no matter what? Do YOU never construct a query that makes perfect sense to you but which doesn't net results? I know I don't always get it right and I'm sure that's true of everyone.
I mean, I agree, it's hard to imagine doing so in this particular case, but regardless, we can argue about whether it's a big deal to break this rule 'til we're blue in the face (it's a rule, so breaking it matters, but OTOH is it really THAT big a deal?) but that aside, the ASSUMPTION that someone in fact didn't do a search seems a bit unfair, no? Keep in mind that angross was trying to be helpful... that's what we WANT of a community, isn't it? That tends to stop when people feel they got slapped last time for trying to be helpful.
How about simply: "Hey, friendly reminder in case you didn't: please search first so we can avoid double posts"... gets the same point across without sounding like you're being heavy, right?

So apparently you don't understand that:
The SDK isn't finished and Google is slow about it (Android Studio is still alpha quality).
There are more content providers on the way
That people who buy Android/ChromeOS devices that come to XDA do spend money on what you refer to as vague assurances (hence XDA exists).
So I really don't think it is me who does not understand here. Feel free to be a negative Nancy to drive away future Chromecast owners (or even current ones) due to your lack of understanding the issue though.

Normally I'd agree with your point, but here I think this thread has value - if perhaps for only a limited time. I've been reading the other thread religiously, but it -- like many threads lately, has become (understandably) heavily involved with operation on "L". It also branches off on many (valid) tangents on the subject - which is absolutely the point of the thread. However, easily lost in all that is this one simple tip that seems to resolve the one key, basic problem for those of us on KK who have the update & who are otherwise fully compliant and increasingly frustrated -- this gets it to work. So, for the sake of clarity & simplicity, I feel this is a perfectly reasonable & extremely valuable topic for the week or two... or three in which some number of us will be endlessly checking to see if we've finally had the feature flipped on. At the very least, the clarity of the thread title alerts members that some of us may actually need to "Force" it to work.
In other cases I'm not nearly so keen on breaking down subjects to such a granular level.

Go take a nap NaterTots, you're apparently grumpy. Despite what he wrote in the first post, this is a very helpful thread. The other thread didn't even have this solution, and goes about installing various APKs to get it working. In this case, you type 3 words into the app and it now works. Hugely nice.

That I kinda doubt. There was great flexibility in 4.4, but an early update (either KK or Search, can't recall which) cut us back to just OK Google. I suppose they wanted to limit chances of accidental triggers. With hotword everywhere I'd think they have even more of an incentive to keep this limitation in place. Ah well, it's no big deal but I can't help felling just a bit goofy reciting that script. :silly:

Lousy 'trick' will only work on after the device is actually enabled. As to country-centred that's why I expected it to still work on UK English. I had only changed to US English out of frustration as I was waiting & waiting for the feature to kick in. I'm not actually in the UK, but I do prefer her speaking voice.
This kind of messed up my voice search. It recognized "ok google" to open up the search but nothing else. I had to delete Search data to get it working properly again. =\

Seems fine to me. The link is for a screen shot of his phone on a respectable site. There are no issues with this link. And has been posted above the issue is quite openly stated. He has a problem with a game.... Any useful suggestions would be welcome.
His wording did not suggest any issues on my mind.
Hopefully someone will be by shortly to assist.
Will probably need someone that has game to verify. Gonna be hard to find someone willing to pay $10 to test it.
