Knox - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm new to the Knox thing so my 2 questions are
1) What is Knox?
2) What harm do I do to my phone if I root and trip the Knox counter?
Thank you for your patience.

No, I was not kidding. But thanks anyway. I just found out what I needed at the Kingo website. And for your trouble to take the time to answer me if you have a donation button I'll donate to you. Thanks again.

Not sure if this will trip Knox counter or not. I'll let other users here who are more familiar with this particular method chime in.

Chainfire's root method always trips the Knox counter.

CF Auto Root for Tmo S6

Anyone else try @Chainfire cf-autoroot yet for the SMG920T?
I have tried several times and Odin keeps stopping at NAND Write Start and nothing I try can get it to go past that point.
All thanks to @Chainfire for his amazing work!

I am rooted using CHAIN Fire's CF AUTOROOT - the trick is you have to use the Latest ODIN - 3.10.6 I think - here is a link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3109599&d=1420980613
Donf use the ODIN that comes with CF Auto Root unless he has updated it to the one I have linked to here. THis is the only one that works that I know of.
GOOD LUCK

Trying it out now. Will let you know. The cf-autoroot I downloaded came with 3.07. When that didn't work, I tried 3.09, so now it's onto 3.10...
EDIT: Worked like a champ. Thank you.

Worked great. Have another question...
An app: com.T-Mobile.PR.adapt
Is requesting SuperSU access. I can't find anything on this app. Are you familiar with it? It only asks at boot. I went in and told it to forget it and haven't heard from it since.

I saw that too but I didn't know what it was and wasn't sure what would happen if I didn't accept it - so I did - maybe I should forget it? What could it be?
I haven't figured it out yet. I denied it until I know what it is. Also has to manually freeze and remove all the Knox crap, SuperSU didn't ask me to disable it...
If we root, will Knox be tripped if we don't install it?

Yes, it will trip your Knox counter.
That brings me to a question I had, hopefully @Chainfire can answer. ..
After root, supersu didn't ask me to deactivate Knox; why? is it safe to go and freeze or remove all the Knox crap?
Unfortunately I'm waiting until I hear more information on Knox in regards to Samsung Pay. I know Chainfire and others mentioned the possibility of it needing an un-tripped counter, but until we know for sure I'm staying un-rooted (which is killing me).

As was mentioned in the cf autoroot thread in the main galaxy s6 forum... You haven't had Samsung pay so far, so if you don't get it with root, you won't be missing anything you had...

Interesting logic. Perhaps that was one of the features he was looking forward to when purchasing the phone? I mean, come on now...

You don't think someone might have bought the phone looking forward to an announced feature?

If you search on it - you will find another thread. It seems to be a T-Mobile security app (At least that's what the other users think). I do not know what it is but they recommend....
Do not give it access and freeze it with TB.

I think he was saying the logic of 'you never had it, therefore you won't miss it if you don't get it' was stupid. Whereas you were being a little more gracious saying it was 'interesting' logic. In all honesty, it is a ridiculous argument. Of course you will 'miss' features that the phone should include if you lose them due to root. Even if you would not have used the feature, it still is a missing feature, just one you personally do not care about.

It wasn't whining, it was originally commenting on a fairly ridiculous response that you had. But I'm glad you're actively campaigning for the job of forum moderator. Keep it up!:good:
Root after Update?
I received the S6 two days ago. It came with Android Ver. 5.0.2 and there was an update available as soon as I activated the phone. I have not yet taken it. Has anyone taken this update and then rooted successfully?

Samsung Pay Q&A - Everything you need to know

Hello fellow xda members. Looking around the forums, I noticed many questions posted regarding Samsung pay, so I will create this thread to keep all information and questions regarding Samsung Pay in one location, rather than spread across different threads.
The following are questions that I have seen the most, with simple answers that keep being asked time after time. If you have other questions feel free to ask.
1) Q: Will samsung pay work with root?
A:
No, not at the moment.

2) Q: I am rooted, can I unroot and use Samsung pay?
A:
If you used a method to root which did not trip your Knox counter, yes.

3) Q: My Knox counter is tripped, can I use Samsung Pay?
A:
No. Samsung Pay will currently not work with devices that have Knox tripped.

4) Q: I have tripped Knox, can I restore stock firmware and reset the counter?
A:
No, there is no way to reset the counter. Sorry to say, but you are out of luck.

Click to collapse
5) Q: I am not rooted and my Knox counter is not tripped, why am I not able to open and use Samsung Pay?
A:
Most likely, you have disabled a package which is dependent for Samsung Pay. Make sure you know what packages you have disabled, and make adjustments if needed. This includes any Knox packages!

6) Q: I am not rooted, Knox counter is not tripped, or have any disabled packages, and still cannot use Knox.
A:
Try performing a factory reset. Your current status must be official! It could be set to custom, factory resetting may set it back to official.

7) Q: Can I use an xposed package to hide root & custom status to enable Samsung Pay?
A:
Not AFAIK

8) Q: Samsung Pay does not work with my cards, even though its visa, mastercard, etc.
A:
Not every card is currently supported, but more will be added soon! You will have to be patient and give it time. This is much more complicated than many of us know, and Samsung will add support when they know things are good to go. Check here for more information on current support and more questions about Samsung Pay http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/samsung-pay#compatibility

For now, this are the most common questions I can think of. I will update the thread if needed. Feel free to ask more questions or report any typos or contradictions

install xposed, no knox?

I have a rooted s5 with lollipop 5.0. I managed to root it without tripping Knox by downgrading and using towelroot, then using mobile Odin to install a rooted version of lollipop. I followed the guide here here
Is there a similar sneaky way I can install xposed without tripping Knox? If I do it the above way using mobile Odin, will it trip knox?
FlashFire
is there any way to disable knox altogether? cant take the stress of bricking thanks to knox
asking on behalf of my friend

You can have your "friend" search the forum, it's been asked and asked and asked.

Good form. "Here's an answer with a link" followed by "but next time try searching before asking"
This place used to be a great site. Too many d-bags joining in recent times that have an elitist mentality despite having little contribution. I can understand how some may search but either not understand what they're reading or want to double check that what they're thinking is correct. Best just to answer and remind them to search and ask their question in the thread they think might be the one.
Anyway, I just had to say something. For your candor I'll hit the thanks button :good:
