Noob here, I have searched all over the Forum about Carrier IQ on AT&T's Samsung Galaxy Note 3, " No Luck!"
Anyone find a way to Uninstall Carrier IQ on AT&T's Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N900AUCUBMJ5 without installing custom ROM or Bricking?
I am Rooted, with Kingo,
Used Carrier IQ Detector,
Used Paid version of "Logging Removal Key,
Logging Test App by TrevE which states "Carrier IQ is on my device", Tried to uninstall with Logging Checker by TrevE with no luck!
Found Carrier IQ files located in the following path,
Device\System\\lib\libiq_client.so
Device\System\\lib\libiq_service.so
1st Attempt, Renamed both system files with Root Explorer Pro (W/R Option) and ended up Bricking, Had to Re-Flash!
(I was able to Recover thanks to evilpotatomans thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559715)
(A Special Thanks to the Following Donors:
@acdcflame
@lilhacker
@JAKISTER
@royal1262 )
2nd Attempt, Deleted both System files,"BAD MOVE AGAIN!" Bricked, Re-Flashed!
Is or will there be a workaround for the Stock ROM? There are some features that I like but DESPISE the AT&T SPYWARE!
Thanks, Van
Use voodoo carrier iq detector. It shows ciq is not active which means it is turned off.

Mine shows its present but not active. How do you remove it then is the question?

Voodoo is just a Detector for Carrier IQ, I know it is active and it is logging,
Logging Test App by TrevE Verified the processes but was unable to remove or stop it.
I used Carrier IQ Detector as well as Carrier IQ detector Red Pill.
I am simply looking for a possible work around without installing a Custom ROM at this time.
I want to Kill the Beast and pass along the Fix!

Download and Verify with Carrier IQ Red Pill or Carrier IQ detector from the Play Store.
At this time I have been unsuccessful with removing the Binaries without Bricking!
If I am not mistaken this is tied into the Android System Version 4.3-N900AUCUBMJ5,
as far as I know it cannot at this time be removed unless a Custom ROM is installed.
I am in need of an Dev. to possibly help out

Intub8,
Looks like you are one of the LUCKY ONES!
You probably have an Earlier Build Date.
My Build Date is as follows; Thu Oct 17 18:19:07 KST 2013 (Korean Standard Time)
AT&T said that they are Installing Carrier IQ on ALL of their Devices now!
Thanks for the S.S!

How do you check the build date. I got the phone on Friday the 7th of February at the att store. Only reason I got it was because ciq was inactive on the note 3. I was looking at the g flex but it was alive and running in it. The date you listed is the day that version of the kernel was created. Try disabling all of the att apps that came pre installed.

It's very strange that carrier iq is running on your phone. Are you rooted? You can try system tuner free if your rooted. Install it and go to system and then go to details. Scroll down and Un select all things carrier iq. Reboot and see if that works. I'm not rooted so I can't tell you if it works or not. I know with the g2 ciq was a pain and that's how we disabled it.

Scroll down toward the bottom and Un check anything with carrier iq in it. Reboot and all should be disabled. Un enabling certain things can soft brick a phone. Do this at your own risk as always. Thanks for the System tuner lead, Nice little app!
Carrier IQ Red Pill shows it but as Inactive.
I did find this link (Thanks to waiters)
How to disable Carrier IQ on a stock (but rooted) phone

with code to Possibly disable but, I have not tried it yet.
I think that it is embedded so deep that someone with knowledge of editing the framework-res.apk and all of the AndroidManifest.xml files and to be able to sign it to work is the Question!

Go into System Settings--->More--->Security--->Device Administrators and check to see if you have the new "Android Device Manager". I just got it today, never got notified of an update or anything... it just *appeared* there outta nowhere lol.
Here is a link to show you what it can do.
It is what it says it is, you can manage your device if it gets stolen or lost and remotely wipe it from the comfort of your own home/computer. There are a lot of 3rd party apps that do this (both paid and free) but it's always nice to see Google integrate this into our devices!
there for me as well, never look there so idk for how long/when.
Holy shizzz! Thanks a ton for this contribution. Never realized it or heard of it.
I tried the location feature, worked like a charm. I tried Ring but that didn't work.

Got it yesterday on my S4 and N7, ring and location works on both. Cool!
Hmm.. I have it on my HTC One GE as well. No idea when it came through.

thats the thing, it depends on remotely going into stock recovery to wipe the device, us rooted users may not be able to wipe

I went ahead and tested it all out. The remote location works great, ring worked and remote wipe worked. Very cool stuff! This was with a converted HTC One to the GE.
Strange I cant get this to work with the phone but my tablet was fin (both rooted) I did disabled a few things from google framework tweaks, not sure if that's the reason.
They are doing a slow rollout. Maybe it hasn't been updated yet.

Yes it is worth it. They have a flashable zip that survives a factory reset. Its just a few euros and you can run it on 5 devices no matter which Google account is used.

The only way this works is if you keep data on. If you turn it off for whatever reason this service is pretty much null and void since you need an active data signal for this to work.
Does not work for me. Rooted/rebooted and I have the function, but it will not find my phone, ring, etc. I'll keep trying.
i have two phones and both appear on google play but it will only allow me to probe the first phone. changed the "visibility" to "show in menus" setting on google play, didn't make a difference.
edit: found this but i don't have that arrow option to select the other phone. anyone else?
Setting works on both our SGS4's. One rooted stock, one stock. Obviously didn't try wipe. TWRP on rooted so I'm sure it wouldn't work anyway. Nice feature, but you still can't beat Cerberus!

I created a Tasker activity to turn on data and gps when it receives a text with a certain message in it. It also marks it as read, deletes it, and locks the screen. I can post it if you want.

From terminal emulator or adb shell as root, run; pm disable com.sec.knox.seandroid
Or freeze the Knox apps with Titanium Backup.

There have been a number of reports of this error occurring within the past day or so (google search reveals a number of people with this issue) for people with only stock apps and apps from the Play store on unrooted devices...
Samsung's documentation for knox describes a notification called "Prevention Information", which would have a shortcut to the app manager to remove the offending app, but that guide is for a system where knox is in use with a knox container, though....
What happens if you click OK instead of Cancel...? Anything? I wonder if that will get you to the app manager that the samsung documentation mentions.

This requires root - this this is occurring on unrooted phone, running only apps from play store.
I got the error once, but I was rooted and doing something that I'm sure looked sketchy to Knox, so I don't think that one was inappropriate.
Rooting my phone and applying a custom rom has fixed all my issues getting rid of all that Knox crap. So problem solved for me anyway

Thanks DrAzzy,
So if I click Ok it brings up a list of all my apps but it doesn't show (or even hint) at which is the offending app.
What I have done so far is:
Factory Reset my phone
Went to google play and reinstalled all my downloaded apps
within an hour the notification came back
factory reset my phone
started installing 1 by 1 apps
I haven't recieved the notification as of yet .....
RE: Knox
As far as I can tell Knox is not on my phone. I know Samsung was hyping up knox in their Note3 keynote but I cant find it ... It must be something running in the background.
Knox is under Settings>General>Security>Device Administrators. But mine is unchecked and still got same message. btw, running stock
So I reset to default and then started reinstalling apps one by one.
The offending app turned out to be Angry Birds Star Wars 2 Free yea i know its angry birds but uninstalled that and the prevention information has not returned since.
Started to do this on my device also as of earlier today. Not rooted and all programs were downloaded from Playstore. Knox is not even checked under security administrators.
A temp fix for you guys.

I was told if I root my gear I can use bluetooth tether and essentially run apps on my gear. The apps I'm looking to run are for my car alarm and ingress. You dont need to root your gear in order to run custom apps, depending on what type of app it is tho they may or may not work..
I would read up on side loading applications first, test the waters out.. the apps you require may work straight out of the box by simply side loading them to your gear with out rooting.
Alternatively if you find the apps dont work, you can try loading my rom which includes a few library's, unlocked features & other various functions that some apps require in order to run correctly.
EDIT: Here is a simple guide on how to sideload applications: HERE

I saw a YouTube video where guy was actually playing ingress on his watch, what was on his phone screen transferred to watch screen same for his car alarm app, he just didn't say if it was rooted or not I just figured it was lol. Sorry had to edit my post. I do think you probably needs to be rooted to run something like ingress since it's an online game and the gear can't run anything online like a game or Facebook so I guess maybe that's why it has to be rooted and use a Bluetooth transfer lol I'm a very big newbie when it comes to the gear.

Bluetooth tethering is the easiest way. If you root your watch you can actually install play store and download as if it's a tablet tethered. Some apps may need to be wifi spoofed with is a xposed module included in null.
Keep in mind your phone needs to be running an international rom. I had to get rid of my T-Mobile rom for an international to enable Bluetooth tethering. Wasn't the watch holding me back, rather the phone itself

I'm on stock Kit Kat for my sprint S4. I noticed that now when I wirelessly charge my phone it gets extremely hot. Also one it gets to 94% it stops charging. Not sure of it stops due to heat or the new software doesn't like to do wireless charging. I have an aftermarket qi charger and peice for my phone. They worked perfect until I updated last week . Is anyone else having this problem. The other thing I noticed is Google hangouts emoticons when entered in a chat come out looking diffrent. Looks like Samsung emoticons. I checked this on my wife's note 3 after updating to stock kit Kat and the emoticon icon disappeared. So not sure if this is another issue with it may and Samsung phones.

This is not an issue, it is a new security policy implemented by Google in Kit Kat. You can add a line to platform.xml and return functionality. But it is not a bug, Google did it on purpose.
Culprit maybe the charger I've got 2 out of 4 that will not charge my phone and they are all Samsung chargers. I think some are just temperamental.

You need to go to platform.xml in the system/etc/permissions folder with root explorer. Open it with a text editor. Look for the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission line and add this line under the 2 permissions that are already listed. Follow the same formatting as the other permissions.
Add this: <group gid="media_rw" />
Save and exit, then reboot your phone. It's a good idea to back up the file before editing which root explorer should automatically do for you. Good luck.

how?
I have checked several times, and my sprint galaxy s4 is "up to date" but im still on JB. Could this be due too the fact that i bricked my phone and had to use odin on my pc to basically wipe everything including root? But i dont see that being the problem since i stayed on stock while i was rooted. I just rooted for the hotspot mod for mk2
In find that Samsung wires for charger breaks fast..I change both my wife wire to another and works fine...KitKat update the best..no issues except for transition animation bug is still there.. After a few times opening camera it defaults back to 0 when I had it set to .5...great battery snappier less ram..consumption...my phone doesn't get as hot anymore...

I have checked several times, and my sprint galaxy s4 is "up to date" but im still on JB. Could this be due too the fact that i bricked my phone and had to use odin on my pc to basically wipe everything including root? It takes over a month for everyone to receive the OTA, be patient and you will get it. Also, if you still have the hotspot mod, the ota will fail so you need to Odin the stock mk2 tar again.

Yes, turn it on, and if it works you still have it. If it nags you about paying for it then you don't.

Make sure you watch if you are unsure on how to do it!

Thanks for making this. It's like people literally couldn't read the instructions on the site. It was really frustrating to watch how many people asked how to do this yesterday in the release thread.
Does this work on s5 active?

This is done from the phone?

Yes you do it all from the phone
DO NOT REMOVE THE LAUNCHERS AS I STATED IN THE VIDEO THIS WILL SCREW THE PHONE IF YOU TRY TO USE ULTRA POWER SAVING...
LEAVE THE LAUNCHERS IN
Thanks

Worked for me! Thanks Guys
Samsung Galaxy S5 Active
I can confirm that this worked to root the S5 Active. I had issues with Google services not functioning properly, but once I installed SuperSU, and it disabled Knox, everything seemed to be working fine again. Based on comments from others, I have not enabled ultra power save mode.

How did you go about installing SuperSU, and disabling Knox?
UPDATE: I see in his thread about SuperSU. Does it automatically disable Knox? Or do I have to go about Titanium Backup and disable all the appropriate apps?

SuperSU automatically prompts and asks if you want to disable Knox. The first time I ran it, it hung. Rebooted, and ran again, and it disabled right away. Was golden after that point.
V2 didn't work for me. Just tried V1 and it worked with no issue. Awesome! Just got the S5 today as well.
