Hi,
I have the following problem on my Droid 3.
When i start the device, it doesnt respond to anything, no sound only colored snowy screen see attached photo.
hard reset doesnt work
power button doesnt work
only way to shut it down is by removing battery.
since i have a kit of Torx screwdrivers and two hands i've taken apart the device and checked all the connections - everything is connected and looks okay.
Any idea what can cause this problem?
Thanks,
O.
That's a bad flex ribbon cable or LCD.

since i have to order a replacement and install it, how can i be sure if its the flex or the LCD to avoid problems?
no way to be sure, that I know of.
most likely the flex cable, but only 60/40, if you can find no visible damage.

if i take apart the phone and take a picture of the Flex cable (it has a small bubble in the middle of it) can you determine if the flex is bad?
check these photos i attached please
do you think that wrinkle in the cable can cause this problem?
Yes, there should not be wrinkles in the ribbon cable, replace it.

A couple of weeks ago my screen broke while I sat down with tight jeans on a chair, while having the phone in my pocket.
I ordered a OEM screen replacement and today i thought i managed to replace it.
The problem is that the screen does not work, I can hear the phone turning on but the screen just flashing the same yellow/green/white color whatever i do.
Here is a link to a video of the screen. youtube.com/ watch?v=RR_6fwPgJLc
Does anyone have a clue what could be wrong? I was very careful during the whole replacement procedure so i do not think i broke the screen by my self while i was replacing it.
Thanks in advance!
In my opinion its either a faulty screen or the flex cable was damaged.

Thanks for your response.
yes, my first thought was also that i have gotten a faulty screen.
Which flex cable do you mean?
The flex cable that connects the screen to the phone.
I ordered a mainboard and installed it. I almost know sure I did everything right. But the screen is not working. Touch and a black screen... I think it is the connector but don't know sure... Anyone with suggestions?
Edit: It works fine with the old mainboard.

its simple..just check the lcd flex plug... make sure its pressed into position correct... if it still does not respond, then you have probably damaged the flex somehow... a crease.. a very small tear... a pin or pins in the plug itself got pulled loose... etc... it doesnt take much...

Tanks for the response. I know sure it is connected properly. And if it's broken it's very hard to fix I guess...

May be the new mobo is defected.
looks like bad board it is... sorry i assumed you had checked that before.... just send the board back and have them send you another..
So as the title says : my phone fell in the toilet... (i know so dumb)
Its already 1 week after the incident, i first waited 3 days to turn it on. Which it still does, actually everything works! :good:
But the only downside is that my screen is doing some crazy things.
So now my real question is if i replaced the LCD screen with something like this https://www.amltelecom.com/kleinhandel/products/Display-LCD-LG-P990-Optimus-Speed-2x.html would my display be normal again or is maybe a chip inside also corroded so the new screen will have the same issues too?
I tried making a screenshot on cm7 and when i looked at it on my pc, it didn't show the striped and flickers.
So what i think is that theres some water behind the screen wich makes it flicker all the time.
So what do you guys think about it?
Anyone had some expierence with water damage?
Hope you guys can help me!:highfive:
Thanks all!
Atheoran
My usb port is having some issues too now, sometimes it does work and sometimes it doesn't...
Even if I let it stick in the same position sometime it does work and after some time it won't some I'm guessing replacing my usb connector too would have some effect.

Hi there!
I don't know about the water damage. I would take the phone completely apart and let it dry like that for a few days. But again, no experience in that.
With the USB connector, I had this with my phone once I thought, turned out to be the USB cable, and not my connector. Be sure to test with other cables first before replacing your USB connector.
Hope it helps!

Why don't you try taking the phone to the service centre and see what they have to say. If they can fix it out by service then you might save money and they are professional's.
All the best and i hope it does not hurt your pocket more.

I can recommend the second one (first seems very long).
Difficult steps:
1. remove digitizer with bezel (frame) from case, use credit card (preferably old one),
2. avoiding dust between digitizer and lcd screen - use gloves, and
3. putting back digitizer and bezel - start with fitting micro-usb input while checking all buttons. Be careful, micro-usb entrance easily gets damaged!
Furthermore, I recommend to put wrap around all your toilets
Good luck

Hi, I recently attempted to replace the screen on my Moto G 2014, and now the touch doesn't work. The first replacement didn't work so I ordered another one, but that one doesn't work either.
Am I missing something? I followed the instructions on YouTube to the dot and still no touch response.
On another note, the Amazon listing for the part says XT1063. Wouldn't it work on the XT1064 as well?
One would think so. You didn't bend any of the pins on the ribbon cables did you?

I connected the ribbon cable before I placed the board back into the frame. But either way the cable has to bend. That's why I connected it first and then positioned the board over the screw holes so it would bend naturally.

Sorry, I meant where they make their connections. I would go back and take a close look at every plug even if you have to use a magnifying glass. It sure sounds like something isn't making a connection.

Would another part not connecting properly cause the touch to not work? Also, does the back cover need to be on it for the touch to work? I noticed there are little copper plates on the back cover. I've tried testing with and without it screwed on. I'll take a look at the plugs.
The plugs and pins look fine to me. Nothing bent.

I'm guessing that you replaced the entire screen assembly and not just the glass. If the silicon adhesive between the glass and digitizer isn't on properly, then it's not going to work. If you bought the entire assembly assembled, then that's probably not it. If the entire screen assembly is good, then I'm still betting on some type of connection or broken wire problem. If those ribbon cables get pinched or pulled on even a little, the wire inside gets broken. I don't know how you would be even able to test the cables without replacing them. It could be so many things, I'm out of ideas.

One screen was without the frame, and the other was the whole assembly. I guess it is a broken connection somewhere.... I tried being extra careful
I was replacing the screen for a friend, but I guess I'm going to have to buy them a new phone instead.. D:

Is your Moto G definitely 2nd generation?
Maybe you should have bought the screen for XT1032?
Did you carefully lift up the little lever on the ZIF socket?
And then press it back after fitting the ribbon end?
If the lever breaks then it won't work.
Did you find a solution? I have the same problem
Unplug battery. Plug it again... Worked to me...
Disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it worked for me.
Thanks for the advice!
Help me as well

Screen Touch not working properly - I sat on my Honor X2
Hello
I sat on my X2 GEM-703L under several pillows - bend was 1/2 inch from center (top/bottom were 1/2" lower than center - approaching U shape - very shallow though) I carefully bent it straight (there is a small link in metal frame right side just above center button. Everything else seems to work beside the screen. I will push "4" and the key adjacent character is recognized also it will type on its own or type 3-5 characters when I only pushed one...
Questions:. Does this sound like touch screen Replacement will fix these issues??? Or is thier additional interface hardware attached with the touch screen, or both?
I am hoping it's just touch screen replacement - I really like that phone (even with texting recieve not able to be solved)
Thanks for your help

So i installed cm13 then decided to go back to miui, I installed by sideload and everything went well. Pressed reboot system and it has never come on since. The battery was charged but now its flat. Plug into charger red led blinks for awhile then stops. No fastboot or recovery available to me due to lack of power in battery. Have ordered a new battery in the hope it just died ,I have had a few problems charging from completely flat recently anyone got any suggestions? thanks James.

Take phone apart, unplug battery. Plug phone into mains with battery unplugged. While plugging in hold Vol Up, wait for Mi screen to appear, then it will disappear if it doesn't try again unplug charger and plug back in. When it disappears let go of Vol Up then plug the battery back in while still plugged into the mains (be careful I would just push the connector on using the plastic cover, no metal) that should get you into the recovery.

Yea saw your other post my battery is completely dead not the same as the other miui forum. Plugging in to mains with battery unplugged does nothing but I don't think its supposed to, something about certain ammount of charge before most modern phones will boot. I just seen some recent modern phone batteriy tests, where if the phone gets to a certain temp it takes the battery out and can't be stopped. Flashing the note pro with 810 snapdragon might not be a good idea, thermal throttling doesn't work while in TWRP. Will post back when new battery arrives. Thanks Kahun

If this is true then the phone must be completely broke, but nothing happened why would it just break doesn't make sense, surely even if I flashed the wrong rom something would still work (but I didn't).
The battery won't be here till Wednesday at the earliest.. I have been flashing Roms for 10 years never made a brick before.

I'm sure it's fixable. I never had a brick myself either. My battery failed on me at random so it could be same for you but I was able to turn my phone on using the method I told you.
So the new battery didn't help, not recognized by pc no recovery no fastboot so it's game over for this phone.
So there was a way to fix it, involving removing motherboard and connecting a wire to 2 test points, heat gun needed and loads of time, lost interest and binned it . May not have fixed it but I think it would have corrupted boot sector or something, if anyone else gets the same search " mi note pro dead" if you fancy a mission

I actually give up on the removing screen bit unless it smashed, saying that if the mid section is dented may as well replace it. I couldn't see how the button flex came out looked like it was essembled from under the screen not from the back.
