I might have broken my gps while I was tweaking my XZ (.569-firmware).
can anyone upload the FUSED LOCATION apk ? I need to know if thats the reason why my gps won't work
Details:
1. It won't find satallites but gps shows as active.
2. the quicksettings gps-symbol is stuck (and won't change its symbol and won't turn on/off gps when pressing it).
I'm searching for the culprit...
Maybe one reason:
Like I always do after flashing a new rom
I deinstalled FUSED LOCATION and NETWORK LOCATION...that wasn't an issue with all androids including 4.2.2. Maybe with android 4.3 these apps are necessary for gps to work?!
Of course I made a backup of these apps with titanium backup, but I can't restore FUSED LOCATION (Titanium Backup gets in a loop)...

Why don't you extract it from the FTF yourself?

...just imagine this story:
I'm on a super secret mission in the jungle,
1. have a slow internet connection, can only connect to xda and a download-page (thanks to a super villian who told me his whole masterplan when we met and then gave me this phone),
2. I have no PC with me...
3. I have only 33% battery left...
I only need to know for a brief moment where I am (by GPS). that would be suffient to survive.
loading a ftf with that connection would take 2 weeks, unzipping a approx. 700MB-ftf-file with my XZ would take an hour (and deplete battery)... then there is the question if there is an android app for extracting apk from the .sin file and how long that would take...
My only hope: You and the fused location.apk (which even sounds like a super weapon)
Downloading that would take me 1 hour, but I would survive, could kill the villian, then save the world (and a super hot chick)...and you would get a medal!
Or do you want to be responsible by not helping a person in need?
Edit:
Of course the villian also cut off all other communication features of the XZ before he handed it to me

Now I'm going to fight with every single unimportant enemy (of course: one-by-one, as they can't attack me as a group) until I get to the super villians headquarter in the middle of the jungle... As you might have already guessed: my mission involves satallites... I can't tell you more, but rest assured: Today you helped mankind!

surprisingly i didnt even find a gps.conf
HOWTO:
jus download the 3.1 nonssl and extract the gps.conf from system/etc
and paste it in ur phone's internal mem.. then use a root filemanager to copy it to system/etc in ur phone..
this morning, it took me half an hour and an open window to get a lock,
now it jus took me merely 2 min

Outside, I don't use to have problems with GPS so, I didn't saw any difference.
Inside of the house it's like always, I didn't notice any difference too, no signal...
By the way, I use Navigon, that matters?
Thank you.
just tested the no-ssl update here, and i never seen a gps lock on 12 sat positions found inside (5 used).
great information , was very helpful indicating this gps is really improved. signal strength is perfect.

Of course I rebooted the phone. And I tried maps too, but is normal.
I live at the ground level, I have more 3 levels above me, and the wall to...
By the way, if parabolic dishes can't have obstacles within "X" meters to have satellite signal, I'm not expecting to have it inside of an apartment
Just a question... Why when I go to HIDE MENU / GPS TEST and select "standalone", if I don't change the settings back to "MS_ASSIST" GPS don't find satellites???
Strange, cause during the test, in "standalone", he catch the satellites as well as in "MS-ASSIST"

standalone is gps itself..
assist is *i think* a-gps..
point being, *i think* its only relevant to the test..
I thought the same but like I said before, if I leave in "standalone" it doesn't work.

I think it required roots, because you must have write access to system/etc
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app
of course you need to be rooted, cause you need to mount /system/ as read/write to be able to push the file to /system/etc/
Why I can't just use Root File Manager (rooted) and change the permissions and copy-paste that file??
I tried to change the permission and it appears the same as before..
MyTracks problems
Hey everyone, first post here and I didn't feel like making a new topic, and this thread seems the closest I could find to my issue.
Have any of you tried using Google "My Tracks" with this phone? I just received mine, and had been using my old LG Optimus Net with My Tracks to record a gps track of my runs.
With my new 4X HD, there are substantial gaps in the track (this was while testing within a car). I haven't tried tweaking the recording settings in My Tracks yet, but this issue never occurred in any of my other Android phones. My Tracks is using all default settings.
I noticed that the track never broke up when I had the screen on, it was only when the device was locked. I tested a similar applicatoin (RunKeeper) on the return trip, and it worked perfectly. Any idea what's going on here, and have any of you experienced it?
Is anyone on JellyBean willing to test My Tracks next time they go for a drive, to see if this is an issue that might be fixed in the next OS update?
Here are two screenshots showing the issue I'm having.
I always use endomondo and never had problem with the GPS.
2/3 years ago I remember testing many tracking apps but the most reliable always seemed to be endomondo or locus.

Thanks for the reply. Would you be willing to do a quick test of MyTracks (with the screen off) next time you're in a car? I'd like to figure out if this problem is specific to my handset or if it's a common issue with this phone.
Doesn't seem to help for me...(Australia)
Ladies and gentlemen
Today I tried to install the patch by the 3 methods mentioned in the initial post, but I could not do it, even having access to root, RW permission, everything and anything.
Then experimented fourth method to install the patch (no-ssl in my case)
1 -> Download file.
2 -> Open "gps.conf" with a text editor, and copy all the text to the clipboard
3 -> Go to Folder "System/etc" create a file named "gps.conf" and long press it to edit as text, paste the text and save.
You are done!!
Many thanks to crypted
Can someone tell me what I can infer from the below screenshot. I do not understand this.
I tried "Google Specific CWM Flashable" and it seems to be working now - at night (yesterday), it wasn't do great but now, I can lock in about 30 seconds indoors and around 5 seconds outdoors.
Hello friends, i am new here, i bought xperia sp 5303 last week from a friend, it's unlocked, updated firmware from update center to the last version and did factory rested from settings to delete all my friends data.....
before you start reading, this is long post, please proceed if you intend to help a helpless newbie like me that has a lot of questions and problems with his first first andoird phone
a week has passed and discovered a lot of problems with this phone i hope you friends here can help me with :
first before the questions, i suspect that al these problems are beceause of the orange modified firmware 4.3 207, it has countless orange apps interfering with sony stock apps, and make the phone useless without the original operator simcard(orange france) but the phone is imported, so we have a different orange here and it doesn't work with the integrated apps.
1) battery back up is very bad, about 2.5 to 3 hours when browsing on 3g and playing 15 minuts subway surrfer. after long night charging, if i plug off my phone in the morning from 100% it decreased to 99% in less than a minute, on 3g browing it decreases at the rate of 1 to 2% per minute at the first 10% then at the rate of 1% per minute approximately....
2) wifi range is awful compared to other phones, my symbian phones has much better range, and more stable wifi. Signal drops from full to one bar ( note that the router is about 4-5 meters away) if i go further than 10 meters, it i=will start disconnecting from almost full signal to one bar, then disconnects, and i have to onnect it manually from wifi settings. this is a nightmare as a java based samsung phone, keeps a stable 1 bar signal without disconnectings, and my xperia sp keeps jumping from almost full signal to empty, then disconnects in one minute, then it says wifi out of rance, then it comes full signal for few seconds, and same story again. my brothers GS4 and other friends phones( Xperia M2 , !xperia Z3 compact) has laptop comparable wifi range, when my phone doesn't detect anywifi, theirs detects our college wifi with 1-2 bars, very stable and fast.
i thought wifi problem existed only in 4.1.2 after google and other threads in the forum here
4)) camera is blurry when it takes the first pictures and it doesnt focus how it should focus, and takes a blurry photo, but it takes good photo in the second try, but this is frustrating, as i have to take two photos to get a nice one, if i move the camera to another focus range
3) i want to install international rom for my phone Xperia sp C5303 (this if possible, as pc companion won't do it even if i changed region ) , root it and how to make clean install to get rid of all the orange traces and wipe them from my phone.
i want to kknow the steps needed to make a clean install
i spend the whole last night reading tutorials and stuff on the forums, but every thing seemed like it's in another language, as this is my first android phone, all the vocabulary used here i couldn't understand, and it was too much to get all the info here in one night. i installed pc companion, flash tool, and downloaded a rom from here, it says 4.3 207 AU(it's the only one available, Au is australia apparently but i want something international, or europe firmware )
please guys help me, i am a total noob, and doing my best to understand this and catch up with you, but i need time, i gave up on symbian finally and now it's time for andoird
also what is the best stock official rom , i want good battery backup as advertised , on gsm arena they say it should last 6 hours when browsing the internet, my phone lasts less than half, tho it's not even 1 year old
also guys can you explain what are the cwm and kernel ,and recoveries and what are the benefits of these. i plan to use the phone on stock and play with it few months then pass to custom roms if possible
Welcome! I hope you will have a fun journey on exploring Android. Well I was like you, I am before a faith user on feature phones (unlike you that uses Symbian), as I can't afford smartphones as of my age. Last year, I got this Xperia SP, marking my first Android phone ever, and I was happy that I can now finally learn more about android. So here I am. lol Let me answer to your post paragraph by paragraph
The included apps inside your phone is called BLOATWARES. Bloatwares, are, bloats that are included with your ROM (firmware, OS, it is all just the same term). Bloatwares are usually carrier-installed, or at least the app that were controlled by the manufacturer for example Sony's Sony Select.
1) Battery has always been bad with android. This is however, cannot be blamed solely on the source codes. Most battery draining are caused by the users themselves. Some examples I can include is having numerous number of apps running in the background at once. This will obviously drain so much of your battery. A solution is to decrease any running background processes. Or possible might happen that you have a degraded battery due to long term use. It would be great if you could check your battery health by any tools (CPU Z, S Tools, Battery Log app - my personal fav, or built-in Sony service menu)
2) Wifi range problem is ancient on Xperia SP! That should not happen with the latest .207. Moreover your explanation seems to be worse than the ancient Xperia SP problem. You might be having a damaged ROM (hopefully) or a damaged hardware (I hope not).
3) Camera is okay with me? maybe it is just your thoughts. I suggest for you to cope with it. Besides, not every first shot is perfect
4) International ROM? Do you mean other country's ROM? This can be easily done by flashing an .ftf to your phone. I can guide you with this, but it would be great if you could tell me what country's ROM you are interested in. Hmm can I know something? Is your Xperia SP sim-locked?
Hi.
Because My Xperia Z for now is just backup phone(I'v got Lumia 930 for testing) I want to check how new android work on xperia z (even if I'm not a fan of KitKat.)
Normally I would download update via phone or sony companion... but after downloading new version on phone I get "couldn't update"(tried 2 times), and Companion suck a bit and it give me random errors
Aaaaand because my internet connection suck right now, I cant just download everything like normally I would do So I was wondering If I can skip .230 and go straight to .283 or .292 ftf file?
>I checked forum but every topic is about 230 to 283, nothing about my question<
Im not in home, I ended my LTE limits, and internet in my current place suck that bad, that I can barely watch YT video in 240p. And downloading two almost 1GB each file would kill me, especially when this lame connection break every few hours... One file I could download(with some luck) but two or more is "no, no" for this connection(satelite connection, middle of nowhere...)
If its not possible, and I need to go one version after another I leave this, even If I would really like to check it and compare to my current Lumia 930...
PS. currently I have good old 4.3 (10.4.1.B.0.101)
Yes, you can directly flash 283 or 292 as Flashtool flashes everything necessary to upgrade.
Sent from my C6603
Ah, thats good.
But imagine that after... 10h I still downloading this damn ftf file xD
I think everyone should get once per year connection like i have now, because now i appreciate internet that I have in home.
When normally you use (like me) 15 mbps everyday, and for one week you need to use satelite connection that have about 80kbps you gonna praise every minute with your home internet....
Can't you go MacDonald's or somewhere with free wifi?
I'm in the mountains, helping fixing tourist buildings before real winter come :]
and here we have only satelite internet that need to be split to 5 persons, and because I did most of my job I had free time, sh*ty weather and nothing to do so I wanted to try new system xD
But I spend here only two more days... so my home internet, get ready for exhaustive night with me after I back... >:]
But beside that I manage to download this ftt file(that was pain) and install .292 and well... I was expecting more from it.
1. First of all I had to back to 480dpi and it so painful, I forgot how huge everything is in stock settings... I'm using Aviate launcher and now instead of 8 icons per category i have 5 hilarious big icons.
2. Rotate function lives its own life.
3. Overall speed of system and starting app is not bad. but compared to Lumia its.. a bit slow.
4. Camera still suck, but its always suck a bit, even compared to my good old SE Arc S, and it still dont have custom buttons options in main camera screen.
5. Battery is... really good, I didnt know that I could manage such times with XZ, still its not perfect or even good compared to what it should be, but now its not taking 10-20% per night and its not dead after few hours of using it.
6. I would literally kill person who get idea to block SD card, but thx to some NORMAL people I fix it... even Lumia with WM doesnt have such annoying(for me) bugs that make 80% off my apps useless.
7. new notifications/quick settings menu is ugly like hell, its dont fit to anything in system....
8. stock sms app doesnt block so-called "tails" in some letters(like ę, ą, ó etc)
9. unlocking effect in lockscreen is ugly, give back awesome bars effect...
10. some sony apps(album etc) have lower version number than I had in 4.3(and system say that they are up to date)
Beside that nothing special :] I didnt had time to compare it more to my Lumia 930, but overall, except different system controlling and choosing customization or system speed, i thing both OS work the same in terms of handling apps and everyday usage.
I purchased a Z4 from someone the other day and when I got it, it took a full charge, and I've been experiencing some things with it.
1. I had it in STAMINA mode, and it was eating battery. I turned off display effects and turned off the STAMINA mode, and it seems to be behaving better now, but it was shutting off at random when the phone got below 66-68% battery.
2. This screen comes up before the Softbank logo. I know why it's nagging about the sim / SD part (no tray inserted), but the external USB? And what's more odd is that I can give it a full charge and I also updated it using the Sony Companion software. I put it on a charger and let it update the apps and whatnot. It completed successfully. So this part is really, really odd .
I know, I know... people here on XDA HATE the Snapdragon 810 . So I'm probably going to get a lot of "810 sucks, return it, it's crap blah blah blah" posts, but I'd like to hear from someone who's a real tinkerer like me on this one. I feel like with some tweaks this phone could be quite nice as a light / moderate use phone, which is what I want to do with it anyway. Overall, there are some things going for it. Good camera, nice build quality...
I don't know - I'm on the fence here. I could easily swap out the battery in this thing (I have dissembled and repaired many iPads, so this thing is a pushover). I'm not abusive in my use of these devices (tossing them around, getting them wet, etc), and this thing doesn't feel fragile at ALL.
Should I press on and try to get this thing humming, or throw in the towel? What's more, if I flashed it with another ROM / OS, would that maybe have an impact?
I would love some input on this. Thank you guys for reading.
UPDATE 1: After turning off STAMINA and disabling the visual effect for the display, it's holding charge at 78% and not doing the rapid discharge thing again. I think that some of these face-saving "optimization" features are more harm than good, as any veteran developer like me can tell you, if you want to save resources, don't make the machine do anything. Seems counterintuitive in a way, but it's true. I've killed batteries on past phones because of "battery manager" apps. They never work as intended in my experience.
I'm pretty stoked right now about it holding steady on the charge. I'm still debating flashing it with Carbon or Lineage (I'm an old school CM fan). Some input / thoughts on ROMs would be nice to have. Thanks!
I am using this Z3+ Phone from 2+ years with Debloated Stock ROM and still enjoying the Camera Quality. My Suggestions are as follows:
These tips only for Stcok / Modded Stock ROM:
1. Try Greenify App from Play Store. If it not works,
2. Take Backup and do a factory reset. DO NOT Restore Titanium Backup, it is better to install apps from Super Backup or Playstore.
3. If you know how to unlock Bootloader, patched kernel flashing and rooting mobile, you can use the following mods from this forum: FSC & LXT Mods.
4. 4G / LTE will discharges battery very fast, GPS can be set to battery saving.

Nice! Good info to look into. All feedback that is helpful is great. XDA rarely disappoints.
Something seems to detect water in the ports (impedance change, so sensors, etc.)
but if it only happens rarely or not anymore - it must have been a false positive ?
Yeah, not sure zacharias.maladroit... But it doesn't seem to affect charging or USB connection to a PC, because I've updated, then I repaired it, and it went through without issue both times.
My new thing now is getting the Bootloader to go from unlock allowed: No to Unlock allowed: yes.
I've been doing a bunch of reading from other threads, and the My Xperia option isn't available on this phone. The phone is from Softbank. So there must be some other app or something that has locked it. You know what I'm going to ask next - and hopefully there's some way to figure out how to get this thing to allow unlock. Then, logjam busted, and I can go full-bore getting into putting a ROM on this thing.
So far, I've gotten the battery to stay rock solid. It's been at 79% for a few hours if sitting there. The discharge rate is still a tad fast, but I can swap out the battery without issue if that gets to be annoying.
Thoughts? Again, thanks guys for the info given.
All Custom ROMs having average Camera. So, Z3+ Camera Lovers will stay on Stock to get most from the Camera. If your phone is not bundled with any Carrier, then you can reflash stock using Flashtool even it is still bootloader locked. If you are flashing Stock ROM it is always better to do it with Full Wipe.
Wait...

Anybody have any suggestions on one to flash?
Xperia Blog Link for downloading FTF Files directly. You can download any Region Specific, after flashing, it will automatically changes to your country (with SIM inserted only). The difference is only bloatware and regional settings like language and time.
http://www.xperiablog.net/category/xperia-z4/
You can try Xperia Firmware App to download latest, region wise Stock ROM, but you need to decrypt it using flashtool (just few clicks only), Flashtool creates FTF file to flash. Link for downloading Xperia Firmware:

Hi i have a question my battery is very bad 3 4 hours normal usage and I must go to charger my oxygen firmware is C.30 its my last oneplus phone :/
So long as it's a clean install, they should be all very similar... I've always been able to go past a day / 2 days depending on my usage.
Your apps will determine how long it'll last, if you're constantly on social media, playing games and hammering the battery , then it really doesn't matter..
I'm still on android 12 and I get about 8-10 hours SOT over about 40 hours..
I try make a clean install for games i have steam deck my usage is normal Messenger Facebook Instagram sometimes YouTube tiktok but 3 4 hours and my battery have 20% battery. What's is the best app for backup all apps ?

If you're rooted then swift back up... Bare in mind that all those apps you just mentioned are very heavy... So yes your battery will always be poor..
I made a comprehensive list of things to do to get the best from your battery.. it's in the battery life thread, have a search for it..
Thanks

You really don't need twrp... You could go a full back up with twrp but it's not needed. Just factory wipe.. back up first

Interesting. I noticed my battery life took a nosedive after I let it update to 13. Some folks told me its just coincidence but I think 12 was better on battery.
I am not rooted, is there any way to back up apps so I don't have to find and login to them all again without root?
I have things like smart home applications to control outlets, my DJI mavic app, control for an LED sign, my air conditioner, etc that I'll never remember all the logins to if I format right now.
I know from experience that I'll forget what they even are until I need to use it and then spend the next 30 minutes trying to remember not only what the app was, but also what email I used as a recovery for lost my password.
I'd give a fresh installation a try if I weren't afraid of it being a multi day ordeal to put everything back.

If you're not rooted then no I don't think you can back up your apps in their current state like you would with let's say swift or titanium, but you can restore them using Google.
I think you need to take a look at your situation, it's always a faff when you full wipe.
Personally I would always root. I use two banks which are just fine with root.. I need root for my mods and for a few other apps I use that require it, it's not a battery issue, In fact quite the opposite as I can tweak my device using a kernel manager whilst a non root user won't be able to, not to mention adaway and swift backup.
I do a few things to make sure everything works..
1. Allow Google/chrome to remember my passwords for all sites, if I wasn't going to do this then I'd make an offline list of them and then go from there or even use 1password, that way you only have to remember 1 whilst it'll last every single site for you.
2. As im rooted I use the mod I posted to allow free back up to Google photos so I don't have to worry about media.
Same goes with my contacts.
3. Finally copy out critical files that I'd otherwise miss, I do this locally via PC, like the swift back up folder after the main back up, then others like emulators and their folders as they contain settings to my custom setup, my nova custom desktop back up, my downloads folder or categorise the contents into their own folders, anything else I can think of that I'll need (you get used to your routine, most of the time it's simply a case of adding the additional files that are different from your last back up, the more you do it the quicker it gets)
4. Get my boot images ready (patched and stock) a copy of the full firmwares I'm going to plus what I'm on and a note of both unless I can remember.
Done.
PS: reason I'm suggesting looking into it is you could be forced into it by something as simple as an error or device fault, so best to get your ducks in a row..
Overall I think I've seen better battery life from 12 if I'm being honest, but again it's down to the apps you use, what used to be quite light on android 12 may not be as friendly on 13 and vice versa, it's extremely difficult to get a bearing between devices as no two are the same, plus the apps each person has is so different.
If you really wanted to test then you'd need to remain as the device was then run tests on solitary apps and see what was lost over a period of time.
Also bare in mind that the device will begin to remember your habits over time too which helps write a lot with battery on both firmwares but it does take time to happen, a week I would give it.
Swift backup is the best backup app for rooted phones. You can back up everything completely along with its settings.
