[q] nexus one battery - ??? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I have had my Nexus One, since it came out, in fact it was given to me by Google themselves, I love the phone, and thanks to a combination of treating it well, screen protectors and an Otterbox Commuter case it is still in absolute pristine condition and I don't want to part with it. I have also put Cynogen mod on it and a top of he range 32-gig SD card, so it does everything I need.
Also I am on a great sim only contract with 3, and don't want to change it to get a phone from three, when I already love the phone I have.
However the Battery is starting to fade and I need to replace it, and after looking over the web I see that there are a lot of rubbish one's out there and it is very easy to get duped.
So I was wondering if any of you kind folks at XDA developers have had any positive experiences of buying a new battery for the Nexus One.
I would be happy with standard 1400Ma replacement, but would ideally like to increase this a little bit, but don't want to change the back or look of this classic phone in anyway.
I would like to thank you for you time in this matter, and look forward to hearing your lively replies.
Kind Regards - Ashe.

Hey thanks for the reply, much appreciated, however any chance you could post me a link to a reputable dealer, and do either mugen or anker do a battery that fits under my original cover but has a genuine greater capacity than, the stock 1400Ma Battery,
Kind Regards Ashe

I would just check eBay or amazon, there is plenty of security there. And yes both out perform the oem and are the same size

Thanks Old Sport, have ordered a 1600Ma Mugen off Ebay, hoping to get a little better battery time off this one than the original, and that after I upgrade my ROM to Kit Kat, it will give my phone at least another 18 months of serviceable life, (really don't like the current crop of giant, android phones, always thought that the Nexus one was the perfect size compromise as well as a design classic)
Kind Regards - Ashe

So has anyone considered switching to HTC One?

Was just wondering if anyone had tried the S4 for awhile only to now reconsider going to the HTC One...
What's an HTC One? Never heard of such a device that has the expanding configurable capabilities that the S4 possesses.

Lol. I havent played with it - so I have no idea what the features are on that phone.... I'll have a look this weekend.
Before buying the S4, I gave heavy consideration to the HTC One. I watched videos and reviews from multiple sources.
Overall, these are the reasons why I chose and will continue to stick with the S4:
- Battery Life - Our battery is much better than the HTC One. I compared it to a friend who has the HTC One and he was averaging about 2hr 45 min on screen time on a typical day where I've been getting close to 5hrs screen on time.
- Latest Android Software - I know it probably doesn't make a huge difference, but I really like 4.2. The lock screen widgets come in handy. Being able to check my Falcon Twitter and Gmail without even unlocking the phone is a huge plus.
- It's Samsung - What this means is that our phone will still be receiving firmware upgrades all the way into mid 2015. Not saying that the HTC One won't, but HTC is in real trouble, and if they go out of business, that my make things very complicated for current HTC users. Plus, even afloat, I've heard awful things about timeliness of firmware updates from HTC.
So yeah, I bought the S4 and I'm not looking back.
Came from the HTC One. I liked it a lot but the S4 works a lot better for me.

Nope! I will gladly take a 5" 1080p screen over a 4.7" 1080p screen anyday.
Worrying about pixel density in screens this small is silly, I rather have more useable screen real estate.

Yep. One of my buddies asked me to root his Evo about 6 months ago and I was shocked to have to settle for a Gingerbread ROM. I had thought for sure there would be some stable ICS roms available but every ICS or JB rom had at least one major flaw that my friend wouldn't have been able to live with.
Hell, even my my old LG Optimus V has a stable JB rom.

Absolutely
I love the 90s. Good times.
I had a One for about a week. It's a great phone and a really good attempt by HTC. I still miss a couple things from it but everything already described here outweighs everything it has to offer. I always end up back with Samsung.

Also had the One for a week. It was a seriously great phone. The design of the phone is just gorgeous. Also the weight of it was really nice.
Sense looked and worked great but is not nearly as customizable as tw. And as good as the design and materials seemed, it was not durable or built well in the least. A 2" drop caused some severe corner rash and even a dent. Battery life was excellent but during my first full day with this device, im on track to destroying the htc as far as battery life.
Was def a great attempt and design, but the overall quality of construction and materials is severely lacking. Ill take my new slippery plastic cheap looking s4 over the one all day every day.

Also the screen wasnt totally flush with the body of the phone. And the top and bottom trim was perfect on the right side, and both hella gapped on the left side. Like I said, great design, poor build quality.

^^^ This. Until such time that every manufacturer switches to this unreasonable design thereby forcing me to accept it, I will never purchase a phone (especially at full contract price as I buy most of my devices) that doesn't offer removable battery and expandable memory. I very much dislike having to rely on cloud storage to house the things I want access to at all times.
Having said that, I admit I considered it, because I loved my OG EVO so much (which of course offered both removable batter and expandable storage), until I read a multitude of reviews (mostly positive) but there are some build defects that would absolutely drive my OCD tendencies through the roof, so I opted to stay with the brand I know. Now if they'd just move the power button to the top of the phone I'd be thrilled. lol
I gave this a lot of thought and spent quite a bit of hands on time with both devices before settling with the S4. Every time I think of the HTC One I quickly remind myself of the poor software, camera, ergonomics, and lack of support that HTC provides for their phones. I simply don't trust HTC as a company and the Google S4 helped keep me with Samsung that much more. The minor issues with the S4 will be fixed soon enough and then it won't really be a competition as far as I'm concerned. I'm really curious to how many Ones have been sold compared to the almost 10 million S4s, which came out what, a month after the One. And I actually use the "gimmicky" features of the S4. The other day I was working on my car, hands filthy black, covered in grease and dirt. My dad called instead of missing the call waved my hand over my phone and spoke to him. I don't use these features always but if I'm at work or doing something were I will get dirty I turn them on. I couldn't do that type of stuff on the One. There is also things like the One not supporting quick charge even though it has the same Qualcomm chip? Maybe the metal was getting to hot on charge so they disabled it? Anyway I'm totally content with my S4 and I feel time will just keep reassuring my decision to stick with Samsung.

Nice big screen, lightweight and slim, plus what Shady said, not a chance!
I, like many above, looked very hard at both before pulling the trigger on the S4. I'm coming off a long line of HTC phones, but my wife has had the S3 for about 6 months. I do all the tweaking of the S3, so I use it a fair amount, and had grown to like TW more than Sense. Plus, the S3 always stomped my HTC Evo 4G LTE whenever we'd be looking something up on the internet, downloading something, etc. We'd be doing it side-by-side, and the S3 was better EVERY time, and usually by a large margain. That really planted the bug to move to Samsung for me.
I've never looked back One-wise. I might have a few minutes of doubt early on while learning the phone, but I'd have just returned it and gone back to my Evo, or bought an S3. But I'm just thrilled with the phone at this point. It really works well. I'm out on the lake fishing and pull up a radar map, boom, it's there, every time. On my HTC, very hit or miss on the same lakes. And the daylight pictures are stunning, something I could never say for my HTC's.
Bottom line, the S4 works like I've always wanted a smartphone to work.
Never. Not even a little bit.
Sent from the rabbit hole.
After the review on the HTC One spoke about how awful repairing it would be and how opening the device pretty much destroys the phone I decided to pass. The S4s "lack of build quality" makes me laugh as the the HTC One's guts are awful whereas the S4 is well put together and its plastic outer materials are more reliable than the aluminum of the HTC One (denting and scratching). Also, as the others before me the unibody design of the One against the removable storage and battery of the S4...NO BRAINER! The Sprint variant also shipped with SIM card so that was a huge bonus for me (in the military so being out of country won't force me to buy a new cheapo phone). Samsung is also more likely to get updates and those updates last longer than HTCs. With a Google version on the way I am stoked as it could very well mean we will get some devs to port some of that amazingness over to the branded variants. Also, I did come from HTC Evo 3D in case you think I'm just another Samsung fan-boy.

You do realize basically all of us have it rooted right?

To buy or not buy a One?

I've been researching this phone a whole lot because I plan on buying this next month sometime, but a few things are unclear:
What is this phone like? A lot of people suffer from dead pixels, poor build quality, etc.
It also seems HTC is in the verge of bankruptcy. They're not doing too well sales wise and top executives are leaving.
It kinda makes me a bit nervous.

Heh, HTC has had hit in sales. Bad one at that but they are not even close to bankruptcy. Not even close. It will few years for that even if current things continue. They still have market cap of around 250 billion $. What is happening is not ideal. In fact it is bad, but it is not the end game yet.
Built quality issues were more widespread in early units. The smaller issues like small gaps between the top and bottom speaker grill and body still persist but those are really minor issues. The other issues have reduced in frequency (at least frequency of it being reported here at XDA ).
You can always return the phone if it is not up to your standards. It should not happen on flagship, but these days almost all flagships are hit by such issues as initially most are rushed products.
There are plenty of threads here about how the phone it. It is mixed bag for me, but it is a beautifully built phone. Has its quirks with unconventional button layout, unconventional Sense 5 etc. But that is personal choice in the end. If you can go play with the demo piece for a while at store near you before making purchase. But overall it is good phone. The only other phone that really competes with it is S4. I wont consider any other phone.
The One is a rather simple friend.

Both the HTC One Developer Edition and the Samsung Galaxy S4 (GS4) are my first Android phones. I returned the GS4 because 9gb of application storage was not acceptable. I have, literally, installed every available custom ROM because I really do not like Sense 5. I enjoy Blinkfeed, but IMHO it should be a scrollable widget instead of the default homescreen. Yes the One's bootloader can be/is unlocked, but none of the available ROM are particularly functional or impressive. If you buy the One, you'll likely choose an improved stock ROM rather than a completely custom ROM in order to maximize the camera functionality. I really dislike the camera app. I also disliked the GS4 camera app. In fact, I haven't found an Android camera app as functional as the 3rd party camera app I had on my iPhone.
My build quality seems fine. I am not finicky. My device IS NOT gapless, but I really don't care. My screen don't seem to have any dead pixels. If it did, with a 480 pixel density, I could never see something so small.
All in all, the One is a solid phone. I definitely wouldn't buy it for market price again. I'm not too sure about HTC solvency, but the One seems to have a strong development community, so the phone will unlikely ever be irrelevant.
buy it.
you only hear from the vocal minority on here regarding quality control issues, and it seems that people here are looking for problems to complain about. every htc one owner i've physically spoken to has had nothing but great things to stay about it
Martin... Its a great phone. Sense 5 is a step closer to stock android (u so love) than TW.
It feels great in the hand, premium build quality (Google for earlier build flaws), it's fast, smooth and everything the S3 is not Imo..... And u know how I loved my s3
Not as much rom/kernel options as the S3/S4 but similar issues apply...
HTC, just like samsung, seem to hold back some sources, even after release. So... Devs have to reverse engineer.
But... Good thing is... Like the i9505, This has the qualcomm s600 and not the exynos so better options for the future.
I wouldn't read too much into the whole htc "staff shuffle" issue just yet. It may affect future devices, but not the One.
Fact is, all the best AOSP, CM, aokp devs have this phone and are working on it right now. CM runs good, Roman has an aokp rom, just in case u don't like Sense 5 . so I suppose we'll always have the stock edition on a way.
My honest opinion is... If ur looking for a good phone that looks good, feels good and sound good, and different to TW... but u can still flash decent/different stuff on for 12 months then buy it...
If you need to have this phone for longer then buy a nexus... Cause going on past history, Samsung will have a new phone next summer, and htc could drop this phone completely in 9 months in favour of their next flagship.

Well,
IMHO this is a very good phone. I agree built quality issues are there because it is not priced as the S4 is, but I've had two HTC Ones and none of them were unacceptable. You see a lot of forums/posts about it because the odd one out is always visible. It is a very good phone.... Just the one Android ecosystem wanted. It is a lifestyle thing to upgrade, I guess.
The Camera is awesome no matter what people say.
Fastest capture I've ever seen. Best low light performance. Zero Lag while using the phone. and Looks. well lets talk about something else :victory:
buy a note 2 better all rounder :good:

HTC still never reported a loss but their profits have been going down but it takes more than a few bad quarter for a company to go down. And it' s normal especially for companies traded on a exchange to switch management if the management doesn' t meet its targets. HTC will be here in next year...

would you of paid more for better camera and battery ?

just ordered my first nexus phone. iPhone sold on amazon so there is no turning back for me. did not like the g2 being expensive and big. this phone is slightly smaller so i think ill like it more especially without that power button on the back lmao. but one think that won't let me sleep tonight is the low battery and the crappy camera shots taken and posted online already.
if they charged you 100$ more would you of liked to see a 12mp camera like on the xperia z1 and the g2's battery ? or is it fine the way it is at the moment because of the low price ?
besides this phone the only other catching my attention is the Z1s, which is a 4.3 screen so its perfect between the iPhone and a bigger phone like this but most importantly its waterproof and i work in the pool industry as well as having expandable memory via micro sd .... if i don't like the nexus 5 whats the return process like in the google play store and does anyone know any other alternatives besides the Z1s form sony xperia ?
Yes I would have been willing to pay maybe $450 for 3000mah battery. The camera shots I've seen so far seem to be pretty adequate/much improved over N4
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
I agree, I'd pay more if it had a bigger battery but not 50 dollars more, maybe 30 but 50 is pushing it a bit for me just for a battery upgrade. As for the camera, as long as they improved it over the N4 I'll be happy.
The Nexus 4 battery has not been a problem for me, so maybe not.
More mehapixels does not mean better pictures, just putting that out there. That being said I wouldn't mind an extra millimeter to depth for a bigger battery, and maybe a little higher price.

I'll wait to judge the battery when I receive the phone. Camera seems adequate to me. I would pay for a micro sim slot though. 50 bucks for a micro slim? No problem.

LOL, that's what I was thinking of!
Yes. I'm willing to pay like $549 or even $599 if you give me a true flagship.
But knowing the N5's price, I'd say at $599 I'd better be getting 64gb of storage too, maybe a 2MP front camera would be nice too at that point. 1080p right?
Sure, I'd pay more for that. Main attraction of the Nexus range is the developer support, openness, fast updates, pure android, not the price.
Nexus will never be the best of the best. If it was top of the line in every spec, why would you go for any other phone? The nexus would kill all android competition because it would guarantee fast updates along with the best specs. For the sake of android and not screwing other manufacturers, it keeps the competition going but gives a nice price and fast software updates to make up for what it lacks.

You don't need a better battery, did you see the battery improvements Google made yesterday? All audio processing goes go the dsp to save battery, 4G radios are much more efficient than the G2 or note 3. Things like wifi and 4G are more often in a low powered state. So I reckon battery life should be a beast.
And the camera is perfectly adequate with true HDR

I was willing to pay 450 euros for a 32 gb+ 3000 mah version :crying: not more than that, hey the LG G2 costs 466 euros (the 16 gb version) so it shouldnt be more expensive than that ... I traded a 3000 mah battery (MAJOR thing for me) and a good camera for stock android (most important thing to me) a matte finish, buttons on the sides, hopeit's worth it google
I'd pay more if they offer me :
1. 3000+ mah battery
2. dual stereo front facing speaker like htc one series
3. micro sd slot
4. maybe slightly more screen size, about 5.3 inch perhaps?
if only nexus 5 have those 4, that will be the most perfect phone this year.
I'd definitely pay more for battery and storage options. I did the math and the manufacturing cost difference between G2 and N5 can't be more than 5 euro!
So yes I'd pay 100 euro on top of 32GB version for a 64 gb version with a bigger battery.
If kitkat will be better in power management, the improvement will apply to a 3,000mAh battery as well!!

The most important thing you'll have to keep in mind is that this battery is thicker than the original one. Therefore your device will also be thicker and I don't know if that is pretty handy for you.

Well, I am still waiting for my 3600mah battery from ebay : http://www.ebay.com/itm/3600mah-Ext...axy-S-3-III-S3-Mini-i8190-Black-/360674611167 and can't share personal opinions about it, but take a look at this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2091111. There are screenshots of how much the battery lasts, and a lot of good feedback on it.
@GXGOW is right, though. It makes your phone look like a Nokia from 10 years ago

One band 12 is live in my area

I'll be upgrading from my m8 to nexus 6
It was a tough decision as I am also considering the z3
Hours battery life?
Front facing speakers sound good?

I will spare you all the usual review crap. I got mine from Tmo on the 19th. I came from a g3. At first I didn't like the size but now that I've adjusted it's fine. I find myself using landscape a lot and I like that. I've been averaging around 4 to 5 hours sot depending on my day, location, and type of usage. I have to say that LP at first was just kind of cool. I thought "hmmm, a few cosmetic changes but still the same old android (not a bad thing)." But after using LP for almost a week all the differences really stand out. I love LP. The difference is in the little details. I love custom roms, kernels etc but honestly this thing is GOOD right out of the box. I've never heard boomsound but I really love the n6 speakers. Build quality is SOLID. I think the blue color is different but not my taste, plus it loves to hold onto finger prints. I bought a spigen slim hard case for ten bucks, problem solved. I've forgotten what FCs, stutters, lag, reboots, and general frustration were like. This phone and LP is a game changer in my book. Do yourself a favor and get one. Spend some time with it. You have nothing to lose. If you don't like it, trade it or sell it easily. Only phone I've had that I didn't regret buying in any way and I've only had it less than a week. I usually get a new phone every 4 to 6 months, but I can see myself keeping this for a long time.
Do you like to root and use custom roms? I think that is the biggest question to ask first, and if the answer is yes then there's no contest, go nexus. If you use it stock, it becomes a little harder. I've never had a sony so I can't say anything about it, other than being IP rated would be nice (waterproof is something I think all phones should be in 2015).
I can say there's a 200 plus page rant about whether to get the note 4 or nexus 6, it was a good idea for a thread but devolved into childish bickering. I have the nexus and so far I love everything about it. I have only had it 1 day so I can't say anything about the battery life, from what I've read the M8 has great battery so I don't know if you'll see much difference. I know the N6 is way better than the N5 so far.
And the front speakers are great, again never had an HTC boomsound but compared with the N5, the note 4 and the S3 the N6 sounds much better. Again, IMO front speakers are something I think all 2015 phones should have.
The front stereo speakers may not be quite HTC Boomsound, but it'll be less of a drop-off than any other phone on the market.
When it comes to sound quality, if you have to leave the M8, the N6 would be the natural second choice.
If you're losing service in buildings a lot, though, it's no question. Grab the N6 and enjoy Band 12.
Sorry for the misspell
Once*
I used be all into rooting and custom Roms but with work having smartphone apps that are a pain to register I don't really do it anymore besides lollipop negates the need for rooting except ad blocking
