The unbranded HTC One is the UK is the general World Wide English (WWE). There is no way u can check on the box. If the seller is willing 2 let ur use the device,
then open fastboot nd type "fastboot getvar all"
(bootloader) version main- x.xx.401.x
(bootoader) product- m7_ul
(bootloader) modelid- PN0710000
(bootloader) cidnum- HTC__001
These shud be the main identifiers. Rest all data in the getvar all doesn't really determine the region

There is a listing of the One variants and model numbers here here ..... the model you're looking for will be the UL variant model code 801n
Follow this thread and you can change your model id (MID) to the international version and then install the RUU 1.28.401.7 (http://bugsylawson.com/files/file/1...13323127-1031113105-release-310878-signedexe/) and then receive the updates via OTA to the latest 2.24.401.1 first CID HTC__001 then change to HTC__Y13 for the last one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42542680
To know your model ID bout in to bootloader and fastboot then connect USB to your PC and run command:
fastboot getvar all
This will give you your CID, MID and main-version numbers. Don't post your iemi or serial numbers

Would that work to change my CID From Optus_001 (stock CID) and super CID it and would that allow sprint roms to work on my phone? its an m7_ul
Wanting to know because there is a sprint MIUI rom from an actual miui dev I want to try and see if It works. Since all CM roms wont work on my device without getting sleep of death.
To install custom rooms you only need to HTCdev unlock, make a stock backup of your existing Rom, install a custom recovery and then flash the custom Rom.
Read this first post carefully a few times then decide if you want to do it:

If you don't have fastboot like suggested above, you can also found IMEI and S/N in Settings/About/Phone Identity/
Or on the back of the box there is your IMEI, S/N, P/N and also MID (listed as FCC ID)
i.e. mine says FCC ID:NM8PN07110 so my MID is PN0711000 (add two 0)
see the attached pic.
This I know, but how do I change it? How to partition the data in the phone?

upload it to your dropbox/mega/google drive and send me the link via PM
@theevilhere
According to your MFG partition you sent me, you original MID is PN0711000 and your original CID is HTC__332. Your phone was manufactured 2013/09/17.
This phone was originally running software version x.xx.599.x, its a Latin America version and unfortunately, afaik, there is no RUU (or any other useful files) available for that version.
The best you can do imo, is to convert it to another version and hope they will not realize.
Even if they realize you have tampered with your phone, they might replace the camera for free, its a well known hardware defect. Some users reported that their phone (camera) were repaired under warranty even if the phone wasn't 100% stock.

That mean you can't return it to stock, the only thing you can do is to convert it to another "stock version", which is not your real stock version and hope that they will not realize this.
If you want to change your CID all you need to do is
Code:
fastboot oem writecid YOUR_CID
e.g:
Code:
fastboot oem writecid HTC__332
if you want instruction about using a RUU, read nkk71's thread linked in my signature.

change your CID and MID to match another RUU and follow nkk71's guide in my signature.
For example you could use the x.xx.401.x version so you'll need to change your CID to HTC__001 and your MID to PN0710000 then flash the 1.28.401.7 ruu, remove the tampered flag from the bootloader and set it back to locked (not relocked). Its the closest from stock you can be.

I dont have an exe.
can you be more specific? ("not work", doesnt help much)
but here are a few things to consider:
1- if you are S-ON, you will need a relocked bootloader
2- you may need to use htc_fastboot.exe (not the regular fastboot)
3- you may need to update firmware first
(pretty much of that is covered in that thread i linked, you should read through it)
but i need more details about "not work", like a copy/paste command prompt output

yep, if the phone is not running at least firmware 6.xx.401.x, you must flash the firmware first then the RUU using htc_fastboot, normal fastboot can't handle newer RUU file size.

As the title of the thread goes, can anyone tell me what's the easiest and fastest procedure to root this device. I am not very much of a root-geek and therefore do not possess much knowledge in this rooting platform however I have rooted one of my previous phones Samsung Galaxy S3 and I remember it was quite easy and straight forward but then I decided to stay away from root for a couple of years but now I feel like experimenting again on my htc device. So could you please tell me how to root this phone. I have an unlocked htc device so any root procedure that explains in detail how to perform root and also if wanting to go back to stock rom how is that performed.
Thank you.

Rooting the m7 is fairly simple. Although there are many variants of the M7. Ensuring you use the correct files is about the most complicated part of it.
The procedure itself is the same for all types of m7 as long as you use the correct recovery and Rom for your particular variant.
You say it's unlocked so first question is. Do you mean SIM unlocked or Bootloader Unlocked?
Please can you post the Output of
Code:
fastboot getvar all
Please remove your IMEI and Serial numbers before sharing this info. For security you do not want to make those 2 numbers public. The rest of the getvar info will help to identify your exact M7 variant. :good:

So you'll need to unlock the bootloader first.
To unlock the bootloader, you'll need to create an account and follow the instructions at htcdev.com/bootloader.
You'll also need the sdk tools (fastboot and adb). You can download the sdk tools here: https://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html#Other
Be aware that unlocking the bootloader will wipe your userdata partition (factory reset) so backup your important files first.
Here a video guide how to unlock the bootloader, watch it first so you'll be familiar with the process.

The only way to backup your stock rom is using a custom recovery...
There might also be a RUU for your version if you want to go back to stock if needed, would need to see the "fastboot getvar all" to tell you if one is available. Btw rooting the phone will not turn your stock rom in a custom rom, it will only become a rooted stock rom.

I want to make sure before I unlock the bootloader that there is an RUU for my device in case I need to revert back later on as once the bootloader is unlocked my current partition will be deleted, is that right ?

No, the bootloader doesnt have to be unlocked to use this command.
You need to have the HTC drivers installed on your PC, and the phone needs to be detected in Fastboot mode by the PC for the command to work.

So its the EU model, will most likely be M7_UL, but run the fastboot getvar all anyway.
For drivers, a simple Google search for HTC drivers should provide links for HTC Sync Manager....plus several links on this forum itself. Pls use the search function

Is unlocking the bootloader the same as rooting a device ?
After I have unlocked the bootloader, what should be the next step towards rooting?

Thats the RUU you want. And I say this again, please DO USE the search function on XDA, or Google. There are thousands of threads and articles to be easily found on how to flash an RUU, how to unlock the bootloader, and how to root an HTC, the process is standard for all HTC devices

After unlocking the bootloader the next thing you need to do is flash TWRP Recovery.
Downloads here http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7
Download TWRP 2.8.5.0 And put the image file in your fastboot folder.
Connect fastboot usb in the bootloader the same as when you did the getvar all. Then flash it with fastboot
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.0-m7.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
After it reboots select recovery from the bootloader menu and it will load TWRP. Then from the twrp menu choose Backup. And make a backup. Then reboot the device from twrp. You will get a notification asking if you want to install root. Select yes. The phone will reboot and will be rooted :good:

Thanks for all the info, is it easier rooting with TWRP like you just mentioned or CWM? I have heard from somewhere that clockworkmod is rather easier but I dont know the exact difference.

For the M7 TWRP is much better and preferred custom recovery. :good:
