Back panel Hole next to Camera lense - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Just curious , on the back of my xperia Z , to the right of the camera lense there is a little hole
i thought at first there was glass over it , but seems to actually be a hole
anyone know what's up with this

It is a secondary microphone for back camera.

So should it should be an actual hole then, and not something covered like a camera lense

It's the microphone for noise cancelling during calls (and also in video recording)

Camera Flash Problem

When I take the picture with the flash on, half of the screen (lower part) become extremely light, especially taken in darker room. Wonder, if anyone else is having the same problem and how to fix it. Thank you
Maybe clean the lens

It seems that light from the flash gets inside the camera.
It might that flash light leaks into the camera from inside the phone.
Try to turn the flash on while taking a pic and cover the flash hole in the back of the phone by your finger to prevent the light from getting out.
C how the pic will be then

Agreed, seem like internal flash bleed. to confirm with finger over as suggested here.
This could occur if you screen protector was not put on right and you have not lined up the cutout holes correctly, if this is not the case either then take the phone back.
Or it could be a ghost
The official back screen protector I had in the box from Sony did this to my pictures as well when I had applied it. There was no cut out for the flash on the protectors that came with mine, and it did this to mine until I took it off.
Hi
This Also could happens If you are using a casr protector which is too thick.
I have the same kind of issue and i had to enlarge the lens and flash hole Reservation
Try it If you use case.

as suggested check lens
also maybe its the way you hold your phone light might reflect from your hand
I covered the flash with my finger and the screen is all light and basically you can't see anything.

[Q] small opening on the bottom edge of the phone

Dears,
just curious, does anyone have some idea abt what the small opening at the bottom is intended for? not sure how to describe what i mean, so pls see the enclosed picture.
I dont think it does anything, if you look close enough its just nothing.
and the paper says nothing about it: Xperia Z Parts Name

I always just assumed it was a noise cancelling microphone to filter background noise in calls.

The noise cancelling microphone is the little hole next to the camera, btw I always had the same question about this little thing on the bottom

By the looks of it reminds me a reset button on some other less smart gadgets eg routers, etc

I guess this is used in water proof test in Sony service center.

It's the speaker.
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
Hmm is one of those things which is probably the most simplest
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 2
the answer is simple
If you guys review all the side design
the bottom is the only side where both ends is ambidextrous (or something to that effect)
with each end have the same roundness
the sides and top have this plates that can only it a certain way,
one side is rounded while the other is flat
the bottom, without the key and hole
would mean possibility of reversal/wrongly stuck onto the unit
thus the hole (not exactly a hole, more like a key and hole)
is for installation process
I always assumed it was for this purpose? (Lanyard)

Theyre talking about a different hole, see picture in 1st few posts
So? Any conclusions?
I think i once heard that this is the hole they use to inject/remove pressure into the phone to sort of create a vacume, one of the things that make is dust/water proof?

question

anyone knows what is the hole in the bottom of the phone near the strap hole
Yes, it is a microphone. Tested it with voice recorder. On the back near the camera there is a microphone, too.

Z1 build quality

When I tab with my index finger to the upper right corner I can hear that the glass is not fixed plane. Can anyone of you confirm that??
Every time I pull down the pull down menu I hear this annoying click noise telling me I have a bad build quality. Unfortunately that won't be a reason to send it to Sony for fixing it.
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Must be just yours, my Z1 don't do that, send it back to Sony

Mine is excellent. Send it back in.

Do you think that's enough for sending it back?? The only thing that could be a problem about it is that maybe it is not water proof anymore..
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Best thing to do is ring them and tell them the problem and that you want it sorted, and yes if the glass is not on properly then maybe it won't be waterproof, I think Sony guarantee that so you could have a case for returning it

It's probably the camera that you hear making the noise.
I concur, the camera could be the sound.

So you think it's normal or a reason for sending back?

Just curious, is the camera lose or why would it make noise?
The lenses of the focus aperture are not fixed and have some space to move when the camera is not in use. That's producing this clicking noise.

I believe its the camera! It comprises of many lenses. I can replicate the same sound by tapping my iphone and of course my Z1 as well. Don't fret! I'd suggest you to go to a nearby mobile showroom and try the same on of the Z1 demo models. Try it on an iphone as well.
Cheers!

so you can confirm that you have the same "sound" ??
If it is like you say everyone should have it right?

Yes, and yes.
But most people probably won't realise it because it's very subtle.
As long as your glas cover does not show any flex when you squeeze it I think you are fine.

Z3's camera is blurry or is it just this phone?

Well i just got my sony xperia z3 dual sim and when i checked the camera its too blurred and stuff, but when i take close pictures its sharp and clear the problem is its too blurry if you take somehow far. Is there wrong?
I think a problem is in focus. Camera doesn't have time to focus or something's wrong with a camera. When in camera app, try to tap on a screen anywhere (it's going to do manual focus).
Nothing happens if i tap, a little gray square appears but doesnt focus the object

I had the same problem. I send it to Sony for repair and get a new phone instead after 2 weeks, cause they couldn't repair it.
Upload pictures so we can see the problem
I dont know how to upload pictures on the xda forums app though.

If you haven't unlocked your bootloader and your camera quality is still blurry send it back to Sony, they'll either clean the lens ( or replace it if you still have warranty )

If cleaning the lens doesn't solve it and you still have warranty they would probably replace the lens free of charge but that's a worst-case scenario
