Is it possible to switch the Sprint HTC One to GSM/WCDMA by default?
I know it can be switched by dialing the *#*#4636#*#* and changing to GSM/WCDMA/LTE. And it will stay that way for as a long as the phone isn't reset.
But if I do a factory reset, it switches back the CDMA default.
Is there anyway to get it to stay on GSM even after a factory reset?
Thanks.

Pretty easy. With a file explorer (es file explorer or root explorer go to /system/buid.prop
Find the line ro.telephony.default_network and change the value to 3
Save
Factory reset if you want to try

If you using es file explorer you need to go to settings, root explorer and mount r/w. Make them all r/w. That way you can modify system files.

Ok.. I got it to save I think. It didn't give me any errors, so I assume it saved properly.
I am using Viper 5.0.0 and did the factory reset.
It rebooted and asked to select the language. After that it tries to do hands free activation and just keeps running that.. I can access emergency dialer, but nothing beyond that.
Gonna switch back the ARHD 31.6 and give that a run and see what happens

That's because you wanted to phone to be on GSM/WCMDA after restore. I don't know why Sprint did it, but if the phone is set on gsm during the first boot it gets stuck. You can either dial in emergency *#*#4636#*#*, or delete the htcsetupwizard.apk from /system/app

So if I make the edit in the buid.prop file and delete the htcsetupwizard.apk then the phone should remain in gsm mode even after the factory reset?

Yes, your phone is in gsm mode that's why iy got stuck in activation (sprint bug). You won't have setup wizard though

Still no luck with this method. Failed with Viper 5.0.0
running ARHD 31.6, doesn't get stuck at the activation screen, so I will run with that for now.

First i want to thank Katdog75 for the find!! Tech1208 for the search... The native wifi tether hot spot seams to not be available unless you have that activated with your carrier, well you can now switch the ext. jar file in the rom, just go to system / framework and find the ext. jar file, delete it or copy it to different location if you want to keep the file. After deleting the file, copy the downloaded ext. jar file into the framework folder and re-flash your rom. You will now be able to activate wifi tether hot spot.

Afterwards however if I want to use normal wifi on my phone, wifi wont turn on. . I made sure that wifi hotspot was no longer active, yet it still doesnt work.

Yes, did reboot my phone before using it, and yes when the wifi stops working and I reboot my phone it starts to work again. I just wood like to be able to use wifi hotspot and then use wifi afterwards without a reboot.
I now however have a different issue. The app does not work at all. It worked only the first time I used it. Now, it creates a network, but their is not internet.
Again, I acquired this apk from another rom (and yes I did change the permissions) and I am using Desensed 1.6. Is there any other htc framework or maybe an apn that this app relies on to work?

Havent tried with that rom, as i am the Pegasus rom by koz...You could try to remove that apk that you installed from the other rom, and then see if it works correctly. There may be some kind of conflict between the two...If all else fails, try to put the apk into a diff rom, along with the ext jar file and see if they work together.
You're welcome guys!
Does anyone know much about these ext.jar files? I have been trying to modify the file to get beats notificatiom to work as well but struggling with it

As long as you deleted the jar file that was on the phone, then copied the downloaded jar file, and there is just one file in the framework folder, then you did it right. Did you remember to wipe your cache and delvik cache before you flash or re-flash the rom?

I installed twrp and tried to flash a few different roms. I never could get it to work so I restored my phone to stock. I guess I don't have the correct boot.img since my wifi does not turn on.
Can someone post the correct boot.img for me, or tell where to go?

I am in the US. I did see something about editing my nvram.txt file but I did a search using astro file manager and i can't find one.
If you installed cm10 already.
Do this maybe it work
Be sure WiFi is fully off ( not stucking in 'WiFi turning on')
Before you try to turn WiFi on . Go to WiFi advance menu and choose change country region code and choose new one ( not default)
And try to turn on wifi

This is only available in the aosp JB roms. ICS Sense builds won't have that option.
Well I never could get any of the roms to load so I gave up and tried to go back stock. I did do a search and there is no nvram.txt on my phone. I can't seem to find a copy of one for a VIVID online and I can't seem to find the original boot.img I guess I will have to live without wifi.

run the ruu on your computer, but stop at the first step with a next or continue button. hit start/run and type %TEMP% and hit enter
sort by date, newest first. In the first folder should be a ROM.zip that should contain boot.img

For the last sentence
How to use wifix :
Be sure WiFi is fully off
Install wifix
Run and install driver
Go out and in phone dial *#94349# ( I think, search about this code). A little text must be shown in buttom of screen 'wifix engaged'
now try to turn WiFi on
All of I do for working wifi for me is this, if you are s-off or installed boot file through adb

OK I figured out the issue. The version of twrp I was using had issues with my VIVID so I switched to the latest cwm and I was able to upload ROMS and get my wifi running again.
I am rooted on a Sprint One and had stock HTC. Then downloaded the Viperrom 1.0.4 and had no trouble get it on, did not loose any of my settings or folders. Now when I download and try to run the viper 1.1.0 zip, it does the install and starts up shows my walpaper and icons appropriately, then crashes and constant reboots to the same point. Able to get on to recovery and reinstall the back up i had made with no rpoblems.
What do I need to do? If I wipe, what do i wipe? Have TWRP.
Will I loose all my settings and data?

I did the same thing as you. Mine got caught in a bootloop, I couldn't get the damn thing to force restart either. The bottom home & back key just kept flashing no matter how long I held it. I had to wait forever for the battery to die. I think something might be wrong with the restart fail safe HTC built in. So I relocked it, flashed back to stock, go to sprint store of course it reboots perfect every time. The people at the store are morons I hate going there. The guy says to me you just hold it down and the restart menu will come up. I'm like if the phone is frozen that doesn't work. None the less I don't expect them to replace something that is working. So I re-unlocked, cleared everything and installed latest build fresh works great haven't had any issue. I didn't back up either so I had to re set everything up which takes forever. I'm not a fan of restoring backups anyway as it can cause issues. I will be doing a nandroid next time and be more careful with dirty flashing. I always dirty flashed on MeanBean on my LTE without issues and Mike made it very clear when dirty update was not advised. In my opinion they shouldn't release a major update that will bootloop a phone over goo manger. It's still my fault but I didn't think twice about it when I tried to update viper. It still pisses me off that I have to fight with it to get the phone to reboot, the entire point of a fail safe is incase something goes wrong. It's the first time I have ever bootlooped a phone.

Thanks all, I am just where I was. so many opinions and would like to have a concensus.
It won't wipe internal unless you specifically check it in advanced. Never wipe internal, but davlic, cache, data and system are fine and constitutes a full wipe..you should always wipe that way when trying different roms or going to a new base. Or use a superwipe script to make things easier.

im stuck in boot loop after the viper rom and i just got it yesterday .. i dont know what to do at this point . when it does boot it ask me for the wifi login and fails says poor connection when its right next to me
Boot Loop
I'm also stuck in boot loop. I've done research and tried all kinds of stuff with no luck. This is what I get...
Phone boots
I get the notification bar and a black screen
Can't do anything with that.
After about a minute, it reboots.

I think I deleted something through root manager, but the just of it, is I need to re-install the firmware. I tried to go through Kies but it can detect my device for some reason. I think I deleted the Kies through root manager as well so it might be the issue.
Does anyone have the .tar file for this so I could flash via Odin? Just want to go back to new outta the box. Oh, I also tried factory reset through settings and also in recovery. Doesn't restore the files I'm missing.
Maybe I'm making this harder than it is and just need a few missing files I deleted by mistake. The only issues Im having is everytime I restart my phone I have to reset my live wallpaper and reset Swiftkey as my default keyboard. Maybe there is a fix for that and then I wont have to worry about the firmware?

Right now it is impossible to flash firmware of any kind to a 900A. The bootloader is locked and until somebody figures out a way to unlock it, it is impossible to flash any ROM/Firmware to this device.
I am rooted on the Root De La Vega so I must be on the correct firmware.

bugs

Try changing the operator in build.prop to match the carrier your on, as well as changing the files in the apps folder. I have found that the changes to build.prop stick, even after a factory reset, but the changes in the carrier folder don't. Was able to get it working on t-mobile almost flawlessly. Just get a random system ui stopped working error. Also, it helps to enable LTE roaming in the ##DATA# menu, this enabled 4G for me.

I just changed mine to "OPEN" and enabled LTE and renamed all the Sprint bloatware and everything works perfectly on T-mobile!
Thank you!
