SwipePad and themes! - Android Themes

Since we all love our Android devices, I figured I would bring a bit of a recommendation to those who may not already know.
For a couple years now, I have been using an app called SwipePad on all of my android devices. This app allows you to launch apps with a quick swipe from the edge of the screen. You choose a swiping "Hot spot" (location for the gesture to begin), determine which apps should appear there, and viola! You can either set specific apps to appear, or you can have it set to recently opened apps. The app is free, but there are a couple of bonus add-ons for $1 each. I personally only purchased the dynamic pad add-on, which lets you change the amount of apps that appear when you swipe.
Now, I know that this is a really popular app already, and im sure most of you have heard about it before. There are 2 reasons i bring it up though. For those who dont know about it, this app is INCREDIBLY handy, especially on a bigger device like the Z Ultra.
The second, and in my opinion more important reason, is that swipepad has introduced a theming engine for this already awesome app. I just so happened to stumble upon some themes made by dev FlyingRhinoCMG. I also happened upon his Google+ community for swipepad themes. He does AMAZING work. Not only that, but he takes requests. I asked him for a Super Mario theme as perhaps an idea, and he had one made by the time i got home from work the same day. He only charges a buck for the themes, and they are well worth it. If you havent used swipepad, or you have but wanna spice it up, please take a moment to check both out. Links Below.

TL;DR? Click these links, try these apps. Cheers!

many themes in the market application

why are there so many themes in the market application? should make a seperate to Theme market. too many themes in there. its annoying
I agree its getting old. It seems like every time I go into the market I have to sift through 15 themes to find anything good.
I agree. There has got to be a better way to handle distribution of these themes.
what's worse is that a lot of them are made by the same people. RSD keeps making themes for the phone and then selling them for a dollar. i'm sorry but i don't think you should charge for a theme, no matter how much work you did. i make themes too but i'm not gonna tell people that they have to give me money in order to try it. most themers do the stuff cause it's fun not cause they wanna get rich
It's easy money. Make a theme, upload it, charge 99c and make some money... now everyone is on it. Tis a shame they isnt more categories on Market, so many of them are misplaced. I wonder if Google plan on doing anything about it? You can literally spend 10-15mins scrolling down until you reach the bottom.
+1 I have to sift through so many themes they are annoying!
Then there are the comic books, the other day there had to be like 20 of them submitted at once.
In some ways the 'openness'* is part of the problem. I've not investigated how you put a program etc on market place and what the uploader has to do, to charge but it seems like people can charge what they want. I saw one earlier which seemed to be pictures of cars (and another for bikes) and he wanted $4.99.
I wish it was a little more regulated... I never thought I'd say that!! or atleast no facility to charge for apps.
Or even if Google could add new categories...
* I know all the tethering apps have been removed so clearly it's not 100% open

There is actually nothing open about the market. For example, if the market had an api, I could write an alternative market client with a capability to filter out all these annoying themes/videos/comics. The point is that the market, like GMail and all the other closed applications on the G1's Android build, is a closed value-added product.
Unfortunately since Market client is closed-source, we can only hope Google gets the message and builds in some sort of filtering in a future version. They did pretty promptly address the comment spam issue, which shows some promise.
I too am sick of the themes and everything else associated with the alternate home screens. Hopefully as the market matures they will address the issue.

[DEV] Looking for devs to build our free apps into their ROMs

We make a couple of very useful applications for rooted users, some of you may know and use them. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in adding one or two of the free versions to their ROM builds. Its seems like a win-win situation.
I use 2 Inc Ss myself and all these apps are well tested and working flawlessly, so there should be no issues.
The ones i think would fit well are Call Master:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1291587
Its an advanced call and SMS manager (blocking, routing, private inbox, lots of other stuff). The free version has no ads and full functionality. The only restrictions are nag screens.
Screenshot ER:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17212860
I know this may seem superfluous, but this is a proper screenshot tool with lots and lots of features. Again, theres no ads in the free version, full functionality is only restricted by a short delay.
Maybe Prepay Widget:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1006487
A USSD balance manager with higly configurable text wisgets. Its completely free, no ads.
And finally Power Switch:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153788
This is something of a chimera app that does cool things like turn off the screen when you shut the case of your device. Free, no ads, only restricted by delays.
Please let me know if youre interested!
Any takers? We do make some of the coolest apps on android...
as for the power switch, does it shut the screen down upon placing the phone in your pocket? i'd like to give it a go =)
Screen off doesnt work for me on ice cold sandwich nutella
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using xda premium
Try a different sensitivity. It works fine for me.

[VIDEO PRODUCERS NEEDED!] What Is Your Perfect Teleprompter?

As a filmmaker, I shoot several different types of videos. One thing I have been trying to do is find a cost efficient teleprompter. With so many inexpensive tablets on the market, using an Android app seems like the most logical solution to this problem. I have tried several apps so far but none of them seem to fit my needs 100%.
I am not a developer, I am a filmmaker. I do however, have spoke to a developer interested in helping me solve my problem by creating a app from the ground up that is design exactly how I want it to be with the functionality that it needs. Before embarking on this task I would like to get some feedback from other video professionals and app developers alike on things ranging from currently available apps, things that are wrong with currently available apps & features that would be included in The Perfect Teleprompter App.
I expect that there will be a lot of responses that say there are options currently available and that the need for yet another teleprompter app does not exist. That being said, unless I find an app that has an interface that I like, the functionality that I need and the peripherals to make it even better, I will probably continue to pursue this project. THE PURPOSE OF THIS THREAD is to allow other filmmakers to provide their input and thoughts about what the perfect teleprompter app would be.
Features I currently have in mind (This list will change as I receive feedback. ):
Clean, Usable Interface
Dropbox and Google Drive Access
In App Editing
Speed Control during prompting
Text Size Options
Light & Dark themes
Movable Location Arrow (An arrow on the side of the screen that allows you to move it vertically to show the target location of the line being read.)
Bluetooth connection so your phone could be used as a remote.
Wired remote option
Mirror Mode
Scroll to any part of the script and start it rolling from that location
Free, fully functional version (No Ads)
Custom app branding (change splash screen to display your companies logo)
I want this thread to be a way for all of us to collaborate and make an app that we all enjoy using. It is a big project for me to take on and because of that, I feel it would be silly to keep it all to myself. Please post any suggestions, questions, idea or concerns. My goal for this project is to finally provide a teleprompter that does exactly what we need it to do as a producers. Thank you for the help and feedback and hopefully together we can get this app launched for everyone to use.
Thank you so much,
zpeverman

Does anyone know how to password protect Nova Launcher settings?

Hi all, I'm new to this forum. In fact, this is my very first post here. I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of a way to lock the settings of Nova Launcher? I've tried a number of circumventing attempts to try and do this very thing. I find it incredibly difficult to fathom that the dev of such a great launcher, has never incorporated this option in the app. Especially since, one would think it an important part of such an app, since if you screen unlock your device for someone to use, then unbeknownst to you, they either intentionally or inadvertently, change your Nova settings.
I tried using a few different app locks out there, and despite Nova Settings widget sitting in the drawer, those app locks don't recognise the widget as a seperate entity in the list of apps to lock, that they bring up, from your device. Instead, only the Nova Launcher widget itself shows. But if I select it, any app lock will just lock the whole launcher and I need to unlock the launcher every single time I do anything on it. And that is tediously annoying!
I know that the dev was away on personal matters for a long while in the past and subsequently had not worked on updates for that time. He had responded to my inquiry about this several months back citing that he may include settings password protection in the future.
I have a Samsung GS4 dual sim. It is rooted, and I have Xposed Framework and several working modules on the phone. My apologies if this post is too long. I'm new and will aim to keep queries shorter in future.
been years used nova launcher and never found something like password protected, only found lock desktop. maybe you can email dev to add this features

Opinions on the Microsoft Launcher

I'm interested in your opinions on the Microsoft Launcher, especially if you are on it or were. This looks pretty good to me: Microsoft Launcher Review
In the past, I tended to return to the phone's native launcher because:
1. It ended up being actually better all around for what I wanted to get done.
2. It's easier to leverage other people's experience.
My reasons for going with 3rd Party launchers have been:
1. OEM was not as flexible. I can't seem to get the dark theme even with LWP+. All of my Setup screens are still black on white. It's a checkbox on the Microsoft Launcher. I can lay things out with as many icons on a row as I want and can even get my own icons for the things that have icons that make no logical sense.
2. After a factory reset you can restore your setup. With OEM you cannot unless you have root and restore from TWRP. I don't have root for the first time with my Note 9.
3. You can bring the same interface it to any Android phone such as from a Samsung to a Pixel 2 (LG) with no costly layout time and learning curve.
I don't know if it affects battery life or not. I'm used to having root so I don't know if there are apps that let me see what sucks on the battery and what doesn't.
I'm also interested in the best way to put to sleep battery suckers for processes I don't use.
Thanks!
Been on it for a while now.... And honestly I love it. It really is so useful. It has time-line built in. It has loads of customization like for example probably the best implementation of adaptive icons I've ever seen. Every last one of my icons are the shape I choose without that stupid white background. It actually convinced me to switch back to using outlook as my main client and it's been so long since I had some of the most basic email features on mobile I forgot how nice it is. I hope they continue this project. I also started testing using edge as my browser by forcing it as default and my battery usage while online seems to be better... Could be placebo. Gotta say aside from some optimization issues/ redraws here and there I've been super happy with my decision to try it out. I have religiously used pixel Launcher or the open source version here on xda called rootless launcher for years. It's been eye opening for sure... I previously used Nova and a few others but so far I'm sticking with this new Microsoft project to try and diversify my digital footprint considering I've spent the better part of my adult life freely giving away my personal info to Google without a single thought.

I just figured out I forgot to subscribe to my own thread.
That thing is a lot more than a launcher. It's an environment administrator that seems to have forgotten what Android and Samsung say are impossible.
Question: I have all of my apps organized into folders. If I try it out, will it blow those up?
Thanks!
I have all mine in folders but I don't know for sure if it will allow them to import. It did import all my widgets and settings though so I'd assume the same for the folders.

Got it! I'm not sure if I'll do Microsoft, Nova or stock.
The more I work with the new TouchWiz, the more I think when they say TouchWiz is getting pretty close, my response is close to what, infuriating people? Just trying to get a black theme with the TouchWiz is a challenge while with Microsoft and most apps it's a checkbox. TouchWiz has zero control over icon size, spacing, shortcut text, behavior, gestures, or anything else. I have multiple file managers that all are labeled File Manager and I can't even rename one of the to Asus File Manager. TouchWiz on KitKat even works better. I can get black anytime I want to and with folders, I can see enough of the cascaded icons to know what is in it, and I can arrange them so the most important one is in the forefront. With Oreo, I can download a black theme if I set up a Samsung account and give them rights to everything but the 3 digit codes on credit cards, and allow them to use the information for any purpose and give it to anyone. Their privacy policy makes Google look like a saint.
Thanks for your feedback!
