Does my Dev. Edition Supports CDMA too? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I somewhere read that htc one supports both gsm and cdma network. which mean we can insert gsm sim OR cdma sim. Both will work.
So, is it really supports both network?

CDMA networks (Sprint, Verizon) don't use SIM cards, only GSM (AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.) networks do.
The Verizon and Sprint models contain both GSM and CDMA antenna hardware. If you have a CDMA device, you can get it carrier-unlocked (search the web, costs $20-30) and then activate it on another CDMA carrier, or insert an active SIM from a GSM carrier.
The GSM versions of the HTC One (AT&T, T-Mobile, International, Developer, Google Play Edition, etc) only have GSM antenna hardware. They physically do not contain the CDMA antenna. So these devices would only work on other GSM networks if carrier-unlocked.
So with your HTC One Developer Edition, it only contains GSM antenna hardware, you cannot use it on CDMA networks.
There are posts floating around suggesting to flash a different radio to "enable CDMA", but I'll tell you that flashing software cannot magically make a physical piece of hardware appear in your device.
Most of the GSM radio drivers are cross-compatible (an international radio driver will still work with AT&T and vice-versa). But the Verizon and Sprint models use specific radios for those networks.

Can you have internet w CDMA company on our phone?

I was wondering if I can have internet with Verizon since our phones have WCDMA but keep my GSM phone service with my sim? I am sick of this T Mobile internet things not working with outr HTC branded phones in south florida. Anyone?
Negative. The radio will not work CDMA. The chip is not provisioned for cdma. You would need the MSM7500.
Yes that, and the fact that GSM is different then CDMA. If the kaiser supported both but gsm was the main one then you could probably do that but it doesn't.

Can i use my Nexus one with sprint?

its unlocked non rooted?
No you can not. Sprint, like Verizon operate on a CDMA network while ATT and T-Mobile operate on a. GSM network.
Afraid not. Sorry. They use different bands. Plus Sprint doesn't use SIM cards

[Q] Possible to use CDMA carrier on GSM tab?

I have a SGT 7" GSM (T-Mobile) currently, but I was curious if it was possible to use a CDMA carrier, specifically Boost Mobile.
Boost Mobile used to (they still might on some phones I'd imagine) use SIM cards. My idea was to get on a plan with somebody who also uses Boost Mobile. I haven't tried it yet, but I would imagine putting a Boost Mobile SIM into my tablet currently wouldn't work at all.
I was thinking maybe I could flash a CDMA modem onto my tab or maybe even flash a CDMA-based kernel and ROM. Not too sure if that would work though (nor will I try it without some feedback on this )
One reason I think it might be impossible is the hardware, specifically the antenna. Maybe it's not designed to accept CDMA?
In any case though, I would like some feedback on this
Edit: ... thought I posted this in the questions area... sorry :/ if this thread could be moved there, that would be great though

What's a SIM card?
iDEN Series Phone only
Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card is what holds your personal information. New Boost MobileĀ® iDEN Series phones purchased at Authorized Dealers all come with a SIM card. Except for the ability to make emergency calls, your iDEN series phone will not work without the SIM card in it.
CDMA Series Phones do not require a SIM card.
Hmm... I could of sworn I saw somewhere that Boost did SIM cards for CDMA, but I guess I misread or something :/ So it looks like this won't work (unless it's somehow possible to still switch to CDMA and setup my tab for Boost Mobile somehow?)
never heard of a CDMA system that has a SIM card before.
And if the GSM tab could do CDMA that easily, then Samsung won't have to design one for CDMA and submit to FCC and such and such, right?

That is probably true, but maybe Samsung did it for more money or carrier-specific restrictions or something, idk :/
CDMA SIM CARD for Boost Mobile and Sprint
They do it's called a RUIM card for CDMA only or a UICC card that works on both CDMA or GSM. Suggest you have a World Phone or Compatible. Also note to check whether you have a Usim or a Csim phone as it matters to whether the card will work on your device.
Part Numbet for Sprint WorldCard RUIM is SIMGWW216R for iphone 4s
Note, you can have them made, but make sure you have a valid DEC # 18 Digits or Serial Number to assign it, otherwise you need a new UICC or mainly RUIM card for CDMA to use on your sim slot for CDMA use and your phone must be Quad Band or CDMA compatible. Some People will say, oh you have a GSM phone but do not understand FEQ's and CDMA / GSM crossover Compatibility, so check the FREQ and pair it up as well as your device full capabilities, like mine for example can work on any FREQ Worlwide with the right chip or programming.
Bumping this for more feedback
I thought I heard recently of people on CM9 using WCDMA or something on GSM tabs?
Just to reclarify on what I was hoping to accomplish, I want to see if it was possible for me to use Boost Mobile (CDMA) on my Galaxy Tab (GSM)
WCDMA is not CDMA
it is UMTS and uses GSM network.
from wikipedia:
"While not an evolutionary upgrade on the airside, it uses the same core network as the 2G GSM networks deployed worldwide, allowing dual-mode operation along with GSM/EDGE; a feat it shares with other members of the UMTS family."
As Prose mentioned, CDMA system do have a SIM-Card like, called RUIM, hence samsung produced several 'dual card' phones that work for both CDMA and GSM. I have one of these, Samsung Galaxy SII China Telecom Edition SCH-I919. It works for CDMA and GSM almost worldwide (I know for a fact it works in South East Asia).
As Priyana mentioned, WCDMA is not CDMA, WCDMA is the technically correct term for the 3G data connectivity usually found in GSM phones.
GSM and CDMA requires different hardware specs not only software/drivers. Therefore flashing GSM phone with CDMA modem driver might not work, unless again the hardware itself is actually compatible to work for both GSM and CDMA -- I am not quite sure if G-Tab 7.0 is compatible for both, I'm afraid you will require to tweak around the hardware (modem and perhaps radio as well).

[Q] Sprint Moto X, with a GSM Carrier Sim?

Okay. This is probably going to seem really dumb, but. I was able to score a moto x off a guy that works for sprint. It has a slot for a nano-sim. Could I, theoretically, throw in my sim card from my GSM provider, and have it run off the GSM Towers (id go with sprint or verizon, but neither of them have LTE here where I live, as where AT&T has H+)
In the mobile network settings, it gives me the option to choose CDMA or GSM and a couple other choices, so it would seem obvious that it would work, however, it might just be the option for International GSM support.
Thoughts?
There are so many numerous threads about this, it is a cdma phone and it is totally sim locked in the USA so it will only work cdma in the US bit it will work abroad on a gsm network

M7 Switching From T-mobile to Verizon

Hello,
I have a T-mobile HTC ONE M7, I'm planing to switch to Verizon, Will I be able to get LTE/4G?
Is my Tmo M7 supported at all by Verizon? What network will I be able to connect to?
Is there any way to make my phone support all or some of Verizon's bands? A ROM or a Radio!! Maybe something else!!
I have tried to find this info, but I couldn't. The only thing I found is that both T-mobile and Verizon use the 1900 band for LTE!!
Please if you know anything about this let me know
Thank you

T-Mobile is a GSM phone which doesn't have any CDMA bands, so you will surely limit yourself on their network. Also, T-Mobile and Verizon have different partition tables so the firmware and roms are not compatible. If you know someone on the Verizon network, ask them if you could use their SIM card to see what type of service you get with the TMO phone. Here is comparison chart of the various HTC One's, check out the Secondary Cellular Phone.

Like said above, TMO htc one use GSM bands and Verizon use CDMA bands. Your phone also need a MEID # (the equivalent of the EMEI for CDMA network) which you don't have on a GSM HTC One (manufacturer-assigned). And afaik, Verizon will not accept non-verizon phone on their network. Your best choice if you want to quit TMO is to choose another GSM carrier (AT&T for example). Your phone also must be sim-unlocked to change carrier.

Thanks guys for the replies, I thought there might be some way to change bands :cyclops: I'm not an expert lol
Looks like I will be switching to ATT
