We can remount as rw, but the changes do not persist across reboots. Any changes to /system have to be made using recovery.
This will be a 4.2.2 kernel so far it's booting but no mods has been added as yet. I am currently on the kernel and giving him information on the device because he does not have the phone

Unlock is too broad. Unlock could be Sim, system level access, or boot loader.
