Can you guys (those on 4.4.2) post some more pictures? It's hard to tell just from one picture.

I'm going to be one of those people that disagree. The camera is better in low light situations than before - so its graduated from horrible to bad. It sucks because its obvious the camera is capable of taking good pictures (just look at the outdoor pictures that people have gotten), but obviously Motorola has not figured out how to fix this low light situation after 3 or 4 updates. I haven't had a phone that took indoor pics that were this bad since the original Motorola Droid. I love everything else about this phone though.

I have two dslr cameras..Its not about that. I'm just surprised at the very poor quality of the camera at this point.
The Camera is Definitely better in 4.4.2, also opens faster & focuses faster.
I'm not seeing an APK in the update zip. Is there a new APK, and can someone post it? I see that a lib is patched and that's it. My apk is version 3.1.41.2 from the play store.

I know, geez! Well, we are supposed to get updates at least throughout 2014 so keeping my fingers crossed because camera apps like Camera Awesome and Fv-5 supposedly help a lot so Motorola should be able to make more improvements.

The op is posting this for those wanting the ability to use the camera. If you want to comment on whether the app has a problem, then thats constructive. If your just commenting because you dont see the purpose in the app, then it is not constructive.

Makes sense... with JB we had 4.1, then 4.1.1 shortly thereafter, and finally 4.1.2. JB 4.2 did the same (4.2.2 was out around Feb., if I recall correctly), so yeah... 4.4.1 by around New Year (+/- 3 weeks) makes sense. :good:
but the most important i could not find.. does anyone knows what bugs will be fixed?

We don't know. And this is just rumors/speculation. Google hasn't officially announced anything as of now. Hopefully Google finally addresses the DOS exploit, removes the gallery app (since there is now 2 apps), and removes the remaining holo blue elements.

Hi.
my nexus4 now having at ota-update.
Update: Google has announced via Google+ that the update is rolling out today, and that in addition to speeding up focusing, it will add faster white balancing, less shutter lag, and the ability to pinch-zoom the viewfinder in HDR+ mode. The company also shared a handful of photos showing the difference between normal mode and HDR+ following the update.

nexus5 update is rolling out so i thinking it's real
Ok guy's I wanted to start a poll regarding the camera quality since 4.4.2.
I love my nexus 5 but I found the camera when it was stock 4.4 was impressive even in low light with the flash, However because so many people were complaining about the speed of it taking shots (it didn't bother me as long as it took nice photo's) Now google have responded with 4.4.2 and speeded the camera shot process however the image quality has reduced by some margin even in well lit area's,
So basically this is a poll to gauge who wants to take better quality photo's or faster photo's
Personally I couldn't care less how long it took as long they were good quality photo's...
Makes me glad I got the phone about the same time 4.4.2 came out
Requesting new poll option: Use a different camera app and be able to do both. No need to be limited by the automatic settings.

I for one am not updating to 4.4.1, or 4.4.2. I have no complaints with the release software. Who gives a **** about how good the stock photos are. If you care even marginally about image quality then you should know how to properly edit a photo. Simple as that. I love this phone.
Day shots are as good as before, night shots are worse, more noise and it's just not impressive anymore. I'd take the slower shutter for night shots anytime, and keep the new behavior for daylight shots.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
At least for me, low light camera shots look extremely better in HDR+ with the 4.4.2 update over the 4.4 release, but I can't tell a difference on day shots

That's exactly my point, I was extremely happy with stock 4.4, Camera was fine and video's were great so I'm gauging who prefers quality over speed of shots.
Question ? When your in the market for a compact camera what is end users primary concern ? How good the images are ? Or how fast it take shots ? Exactly point proved and judging from the results of the poll so far looks like I'm not alone either.

Agreed, they boosted the ISO because they increase the shutter speed in low light thus images turns up pretty noisy. What's the point of having OIS when it can't use it? It's better to have slower shutter and low ISO to make the image sharper and less noise in dark environment, just make the OIS more aggressive, come on Google don't fail me now
I came from the HTC One and iPhone 5s. I dumped both for the N5 that I purchased used that was already updated to 4.4.2.
The noise level is way too high. Day or night. Focus issues are still present. What's worst is that I can never get a clean, clear shot. I don't even want to transfer the images taken from the N5 to the computer because I know it will be a lot worse than what I see on my phone.
I purchased Camera Awesome. Didn't do anything to help with the issue. Does anyone else have any suggestions as to a better app to use? Or a mod for a previous version?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I prefer faster shots. With 4.4 I almost went nuts... especially in dark areas it was almost impossible to focus. So for me I accept the 5% worse quality and get 100% faster shots.
Very impressed with day shots, have yet to try a night shot, but I did notice the screen was much darker.

Pictures is good, but in update i lost so good video quality, now camcorder is so dark, cant see the thing when there dark environment. And i dont know why
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Whatever they did to the camera they need to revert it. All photos shouldn't look like they were taken with an ISO of 800.
EDIT: It's worse than I thought. A relatively bright photo = ISO 1336.
I prefer the quicker photo's. I don't need a camera to take pictures of my dinner or a flower. Anyone who has kids is definitley enjoying the update.
If you look through the picture thread here the majority of the pics are people's food. I don't really need to keep a picture journal of what I eat. lol
Okay, so here is the deal, yesterday I flashed 4.4 on my XT1058 and everything was cool, i used it the whole day and then i went to sleep, on the morning (like 10 mins ago) I woke up and I opened the camera app and then I saw this... Im not sure if it is a software problem or perhaps dirt in the lens, but i want to kill myself =). any ideas ??

Actually I called MotoCare and they told me to take it to the Motorola Technical Service here in Chile, It was a nice surprise that it was just 2 miles away from my home, so I went there yesterday and they replaced my Camera for free, the camera was defective according to them, and they applied the warranty, I was really surprised because I have my BL unlocked, rooted and with TWRP... so I guess is a big WIN, and Motorola is the sh!t.

Cool! I was wondering when you got your brand new moto x and when you found out the issue?

Its a phone camera. I have a real camera for events and such where I know I want great pics. No phone takes pics that compare with even a cheap dedicated camera. That's life.
Phone companies don't claim their phone cameras will replace your real camera. Yet so many here think they should it seems. And yes...some are definitely better than the moto x.....but its an amazing phone regardless.
What I'm saying is...I don't care what it looks like if I zoom in. Its a tiny cheap camera...like all phones. I don't expect awesome pics....I expect to capture unexpected moments.....and it does that just fine.
But that's just me.

I have my X since 16 September, and I noticed about this issue 2 days ago, then I started to look my last week photos and the black dot was on every of them after New Year...
Just wanted to share the 2016 Moto G Camera. Not my work, just sharing. You must disable the old camera then install.

Does the camera app itself look different or do anything new?

Looks a bit different, but I think all of the options are the same. Though I noticed no 60fps 1080p video, just 30 and 30 for 4k too.

Send to focus pretty quick. The pics look good. I'll try to find some better subjects than my car interior tomorrow heh.

I took these pics with the G4 camera app today. Outdoors and indoors. It focuses really quick, and while it doesn't have manual focus, you can force it to lock on an object close up (my remote) and lock it. Then the background has a nice blur.

Just like a previous member's screenshot: all video is set to 30fps (except slow motion @120fps)
The video is fine otherwise with really good stabilization. I'm keeping my stock camera around to fall back on, but the G4 cam has real promise if someone smarter than myself can unlock a few settings and the elusive Camera2 API.

Does it let you pause when recording video?

If you're referring to the "double-twist" to activate the camera, I was wondering the same. It's tied to the OEM camera app, so... renaming the G4 camera app and copying its folder structure over the OEM one? I could try, but doubt it could be that simple.[emoji14]

Just installed in the Moto G camera and I quite like it. I like the option that it gives you to use the old style of taking photos or use the method that practically every other camera app uses.
I managed to get Quick Capture to work. I disabled quick capture in the original camera app and enabled it in the new Moto G camera app. You need to be rooted for the rest to get the twist launch to work. I used an Xposed module called TwistySwitch Beta available in this thread:
[XPOSED] Twisty Switch Experimental Update
and just chose the new Moto G Camera app. It works perfectly and in the same way as the original app.
I am not sure how to get around this working if you are not rooted as this seems to be the only way to work around what is built into the stock software.
Hope this helps.
