Unable to unlock the bootloader on 4.3 - Asus Transformer TF701

CN 10.26.1.18
unknown error occurred , which may be a network error please try later
This annoying sh1t occurs when I try to unlock the device with the official unlock tool for 4.2.
Actually what I want is just to root it, but currently it's no way out but unlock it to flash in the root.
How am I supposed to deal with it? I can't bear using an unrooted device.
Thanks for any help. Though I know most of your solutions won't work.:crying:

Don't you need to update to 4.3 first? Careful. I'm pretty sure you have to get updated to 4.3 first then unlock. Make sure Google 2 step verification is disabled secondly. I do not know if a 4.2 unlock tool exists for 4.3.

Sorry I didn't see you were on 4.3 already.

Does this is a Nexus device? Then you can try Wugfresh Nexus toolkit.
Nexus 7 (2013) with stock AOSP ROM(4.4.2), FRANCO Kernel (r12)

I just recollect that I had the same issue. A network error like no internet connection. I just kept trying until it worked. I assumed it was the router.

Did you try "fastboot unlock" to unlock the boot loader instead. The Collection thread says you can do that. Try the one included with the SDK for whatever platform your on.

You can only unlock using the asus unlock tool - the bootloader is encrypted and other methods won't work. Just keep trying it - it will eventually unlock. Some people said they had to try it hundreds of times before it eventually let them do it. No idea why.

Thank you anyway though I don't think continuous trying unlocking would be a feasible solution since I try billions of times and alter many network accesses. So annoying is it. The stock ROM is slow, odexed, laggy, and with piles of useless apps.

You can root your Xperia Z1. I don't see why you're struggling so much. You need to downgrade to .534 to root your phone.
Download this: http://www.flashtool.net/download.php

This is how you root...
Yes, you can root your phone with 4.3, without Unlock Bootlader.

No. You don't have to. Unlock Bootlader is needed only to flash Custom Roms with Custom Kernels. With Locked Bootlader you still can flash Custom Roms with Stock kernels and get Root.

If the bloatware on your phone is the main reason then you can flash via Flastool a Unbranded FTF Android 4.3 like I did, clean and smooth.

Back again, still with no root or unlocked bootloader. Bootloader i can unlock but it wont let me because it says "Waiting for Device" all the time. ive followed the Sony guide to unlocking bootloader untill the bit it tells me to plug the device in fastboot mode. then it says the comp will want to install some drivers... point the computer to the Google File/USB_Driver,
1. my comp doesnt even ask me to install drivers when plugged in.
2. when i point the phone to that file through "Device Manager" it says there isnt any drivers there. im guessing this is the reason why im getting the "Waiting for device" problem.
Anymore ideas?

This is more complicated that it should be and it's related to bootloader problems so I think this is the only one who can help you, the OP of this thread.

I think you should carefully read well all the tutorials because you getting confused.
If you do a Factory Reset you just reset your phone to how it was at the beginning and this will wipe all your data. (Apps, Data exc..)
Factory Reser have nothing to do with Bootloader or Root.
If you Unlock Bootlader, you will unlock permanently until you will not decide to re-lock it.
If you Root your phone you Root permanently. The only way to lose root is to flash a stock FTF not rooted.

[Q] Best way to get off of 5.1 LMY47D?

Hey everyone, not quite sure what to do here, predicament is as follows:
I am on T-Mobile, phone is stock, bootloader locked, not rooted. This is the first phone that I have not wanted to root/tweak (been with Android since the HTC Hero). Anyhow, I sideloaded the LMY47D 5.1 build when it came out the other day... Now, I feel like I am stuck.
I'm reading various threads with contradictory information, but it seems that I can not downgrade from 5.1 to 5.0.1 because my phone will brick? That said, it sounds like there will NOT be an OTA from D (and maybe even E), so I will need to hopefully wait for M to go to the google factory images page...
When it comes down to it, I need my bootloader to be locked and phone unrooted after I figure out what to do here.
So... What is my best course of action? Is downgrading out of the question, because ideally i'd just downgrade to 5.0.1 right now and then wait for the OTA (and capture it if no has by that time!)? If not.. I guess I just need to wait and hope for M factory images.
Thanks!

Hmm, I guess I am confused as to what is causing the bricks for those that downgraded? I'll go ahead and do that right now but... I've read direct quotes from others stating that downgrading a Motorola bootloader is an instant brick and others have said it has happened to them.

Unlocking the bootloader makes no difference for receiving and installing OTA`s, make sure you always have oem-unlocking enabled because then you can`t flash anything anymore if an incident would occur and you`re without a OS.

Sweet, successful downgrade!
I saw it mentioned in another thread that now that I have successfully downgraded I may brick when I get the T-Mobile 5.1 OTA.
Is there any credence to this? I am back on 5.0.1 now, relocked my bootloader, etc. Just wanted to make sure. It doesn't seem as if that would be the case to me but... Just wanted to be safe rather than sorry.
Thanks!

Couldn't agree with you more....specially on the sentence I highlighted in bold. Got into the same problem yesterday. I excitedly upgraded from LMY47D to LMY47E. Later realised it's a Verizon image. So, thought let me go down to 5.0.1 and get a OTA - the "proper" way to upgrade.
While flashing, it didn't let me downgrade my bootloader. Mistake #1.
Then continued to flash the remaining images (radio, recovery, cache, system, userdata).
Then I locked my bootloader, so that it continues to look like "fresh out of the box". Mistake #2.
Then when I rebooted, it was constantly giving the error that NFC has failed and the Phone has failed. I couldn't get past those errors. It was continuously giving me that error.
It wouldn't let me unlock the bootloader, as the new bootloader (5.1) needs the OEM unlocking enabled in Developer's options.
Then I realised that there was a slight gap of time between showing the NFC & Phone error and the next set of NFC & Phone error. Using that, with great difficulty, setup the phone - going through every tap using the gap that was available between 2 sets of errors. Then I unlocked the developer's options, then enabled the OEM unlocking and finally got my bootloader unlocked.
Torrid - Horrible task. Was scared I had bricked my phone....but through some hard work (and sleepless night - up until 6am), got this finished.
Guys - seriously suggesting you NOT to lock the bootloader, IF you have unlocked the bootloader. Speaking with experience. Learn from my mistakes.
EDIT: I realised what the problem was and why NFC & Phone were erroring out. It was because I forgot to flash the Boot image. So, Bootloader & Boot were 5.1 & the rest were 5.0.1

Nexus 6 stock on Google boot logo

Hi guys, so here is the story. My brother bought a Nexus 6, it came with 5.1 and he tried to update it via OTA today, it boot up, reboot and when powering on, it was stuck in a bootloop.
I tried first just clearing cache and data on the stock recovery, but had the same results when trying to boot up. I started to get worry but hey its a Nexus, he couldn't brick it just taking an OTA.
Well, I booted to fastboot which does fine, my computer recognozed it, i tried to faatboot flash a custom recovery but, happens the bootloader is locked, i thought I am just a command away to unlock it, but it fails telling me that the option was not thicked in settings.
I now, have no idea what else to do. Any ideas? Is there anything I can flash on the bootloader if it is not unlocked?

Offering "solutions" that are proved not to work, by promoting methods that are not recommended. These are the homeopathic solutions for the real diseases.
If your phone's bootloader is not unlocked, and the Enable OEM unlocking is not ticked then you can't do anything. And if you can't do anything, you can't do anything with tollkits either, because they are not magic pixies that solve problems, but only frontends for adb and fastboot.

Thanks for clarifying. So, I guess the phone is basically bricked with no known solutions, correct?
To be clear:
You seem to know your way around fastboot, so the tip to use a toolkit is a bit useless (and not recommended by a large part of xda).
And about your problem: Your brothers N6 is a brick, sorry. With a locked bootloader and no custom recovery there is no way to recover from a bootloop if the "allow OEM unlocking" isn't ticked (found in the developer options in settings).
Since Lollipop it is quite possible to brick your Nexus by just taking an OTA. First thing I always do with my phones, even before Lollipop, is to unlock the bootloader. That way you always have a way back.
I'm afraid, you have to send it for repairs. But they'll replace it, because it's their fault.
But when you get your replacement, you really should start with unlocking the bootloader. That won't affect anything else, but if Google botches another OTA, the phone will be fixable.

Thank you both, I will in that case send it back to google and make sure my brother unlocks the bootloader as soon as he gets it.

Question about root. XT1900-1

I picked up the Best Buy unlocked version. Which I assumed was the Android One version(?) but I'm not seeing anything about it on this phone. Anyways, I'm not familiar with some of the lingo for this phone in the threads, so I'm not sure what to look for compatibility-wise. I came from the S9+ so I have to figure all that out. Is it bootloader unlockable, and rootable? Is it the A1 version? Is there a benefit to changing the firmware to A1(if that's even possible, running 8.1)?
Thanks for all the input.
Android One has the badge or logo on the back. You can use Motorola's website to definitively determine if your phone call be unlocked. Typically, the one from Amazon isn't.

To be clear, you're talking about the bootloader? The phone itself is the best buy unlocked version. I really would like to flash Android One on it, as long as everything is working correctly.
I don't know of anything else besides "unlock of bootloader".
Just be aware, there's no return from unlock of bootloader. You do that process, safety net is broken and modified flag is tripped. There are no factory signed official images provided by Lenovo. If all steps are followed to a T from these forums, phone will always be functional. You have ways around safety net via Magisk if Google Pay is important to you.

I meant as in sim unlocked. Do I need the bootloader unlocked in order to root or flash A1? If I unlock it will I still receive updates and function a normal if I keep it stock rom?
I have been trying to find up to date directions to unlock the bootloader on my phone with absolutely no luck. No where does it say a compatible unlock to work with the new 8.1 software. I would love to install A1 on my sim unlocked version of my x4. I can't find an up to date version to root or anything. It's so annoying that I am about to just return this phone and buy something else. The development for it on here is ridiculous. The communication and instructions are just as bad.

You're obviously not looking hard enough and clearly your first time with an A/B partition phone. Motorola has their website to unlock the bootloader. One quick Google, first result: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
Install twrp, and you can flash root of your choice. Magisk or SuperSU. https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/how-to/guide-how-to-root-moto-x4-install-twrp-t3806460
Not sure what you mean by ridiculous. A few people have been hard at work to give us 3 custom ROMs already.
Not to mention the instructions to get a specific stock firmware flashed.

The phone will work with any sim. Though recommend you verify the bands the phone is compatible with the carrier of choice. Unlocking bootloader as it's been said multiple times in these forums, breaks OTAs. Topjohnwu has guide around it:

Or just then the phone.

I'm not finding anything saying it's compatible with certain build numbers and/or 8.1 and I'm not looking to brick my phone which seems like people are. I can do a quick Google search but it's not going to say what's compatible.

FWIW, I picked up a carrier unlocked Moto X4 from Best Buy this morning and I was able to get a bootloader unlock code from the Motorola site, install Magisk & restore apps via TitaniumBackup. YMMV.

I'm not understanding what you're saying. Is what compatible? The build number is firmware related which is what I'm assuming you want to switch, between firmwares.

Temp P20 BL Unlock, What can i do with it?

I followed this guide
HTML:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79383551&postcount=18
It actually does work after bricking the device i was able to restore it by flashing the internals of the update.app. Im able to flash ANYTHING which you can with an unlocked bootloader, after you reset you lose the temp unlock obviously. Im wondering what can i actually do with being able to do this?, Because it relocks after a reboot is it useless? I have tried to root but i imagine the recovery_ramdisk file restores itself to its original state after reboot?
Any help or tips would be nice, thank you!.

No I'd say it's not useless. Will check it out..
If you can get TWRP can you flash anything? Custom ROM? Try AOSIP, can you flash magisk?
Try some things, what's possible?
Sadly nothing so far!, TWRP will install but won't show up after the reboot, maybe because the bootloader locks back?. I was able to unbrick the device and downgrade and upgrade etc, thats about it
There's another thread of a chap looking into cracking the bootloader, could your temp unlock help him in any way?
May be worth talking to him.

Brute forcing the unlock code it's just a waste of time and that "temporary" unlock won't help that guy anyway.
