Hey guys,
I am stock rooted on my Note 3. I only rooted to clean up most of the ATT bloatware that was installed; so that's all I've removed.
I can't check software updates. I tap and tap and tap the Software Updates button in the settings and nothing. I've tried restarting the phone and still nothing. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Devices with root access can't check for software updates. Your device status is listed as "custom" once you root it.

Ok thanks. I guess I'll need to find out how to unroot it then. I've been wanting to check for the 4.4 update. I know it hasn't been OTA'd yet, but still want to be able to check.

Download Wanam from the playstore and install it. Also install the xposed framework if you haven't already. In wanam scroll down to "security hacks" and check "fake system status". Reboot and you should be able to check for updates while rooted.

So I did this, and no go. I still can't check for updates, and the padlock is still there. I have tried disabling/enabling the check box a couple of times. Any other ideas?
Enable the checkmark. Then it may take a few reboots to make it work. (Make sure XPosed is enabled. I forgot that once.)

Ya I did. I will keep trying. The padlock did go away. So the "official" status should allow me to check for updates as well, just to make sure?

The padlock is now gone, but I still can't check for updates. It's just an empty tap.
You might have "AT&T software update" froze. Unfreeze it if it is.

Pretty sure that's where I screwed myself. I uninstalled all that AT&T crap thinking it was bloatware. Sounds like I'll need to do a restore for a fresh flash of MJ5.

Ahh man that sucks! Looks like your learning your lesson the hard way.
This isn't directed at you, or any one person. But I don't know where you "I deleted bloat and need it now" people learned to delete stuff. BUT STOP DELETING LOL! You must always always always perform a complete app backup FIRST! I highly recommend titanium backup pro. Use it to backup EVERYTHING first. Freeze unwanted apps and use phone for 2 days. If device still works fine then uninstall the app, but keep the backup! A 5 minute backup saves you a 50min restore process.

I do use TB. I just apparently don't know how to use it.
EDIT: Would doing just a factory reset on my phone fix that? Or do I need to download a full ROM?

When you first install Titanium backup pro you'll see a white box with a checkmark thru it on the top right. That's known as "Batch Actions". Within that menu you'll see category's like verify backups, backup, restore, move/integrate etc..... I recommend running "Backup all user apps + system data". The first time running is slow. Now you'll have EVERYthing backed up. Now to freeze an app, use the menu and scroll to desired app. Select it and choose "freeze". Now the frozen app will be highlighted as you scroll the list. Reboot and run the phone a day or 2. If no glitches arise and you need the space, you can "uninstall" the app. Uninstall it by selecting it and choosing "uninstall". After an app is uninstalled the backup you made will be allllll they way down the list with a line thru it. If you find out you need the uninstalled app, click it and select "restore" then choose "app only". If you choose "app+data" glitches can arise. Especially if you restore a backed up 4.3 app to a 4.4.2 rom.
I hope that lil rundown on titanium helps ya. If I am unclear like I have been before, feel free to shoot another question.

A factory reset can sometimes fix issues like this. It all depends on how the item was removed. Frozen apps will be restored. But deleted and blitzed apps don't come back from factory resets. You never know till you try, and it can't hurt to try since your about to reflash back to stock anyway. So give it a shot!

They were uninstalled, so if you are saying it doesn't come back, then I won't waste the time with the Factory Reset. I need to find a guide to flash back to stock. I don't know much about this phone and getting technical with it. I enjoyed it so much just the way it is.

Thank you, sir!
The only thing I have at the bottom that have lines through it are AT&T Smart Wi-fi" and "media."
I'll have to follow that thread.
Just out of curiosity, if I took my phone back into an AT&T store and asked them to complete wipe and restore it, do they have a full ROM that they would be putting back on? I wouldn't mind that since I would rather them do it since it's faster. Not much time to mess around with this right now.
A Samsung store should be able to. I'm unsure about an at&t store. Call one by you.

Another way to disable apps is to use Titanium backups "freeze" or the "disable" with adb. Both prevents the app from running BUT leaves it intact and give you a possibility to restore all apps with a hard reset.
Here is a guide from Paul at Modaco:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809231
Basically its use adb to run a PM command:
pm disable com.Apps.apps (change the file name to the apk you want to disable.
Note: titanium "freeze" do same thing

I noticed that freezing using titanium takes a while... It just reports 'freezing...' and seems to hang there (after terminating and restarting the apk appears as frozen though).
Anyone with similar issues?
I can recommend SystemApp Remover, cheap nice UI installer/remover/disabler/backup app for your system apps, works very fine.
Can you disable the icon for alarm and call log and still get access to these in the call-app and the clock-app?
Anyone know this?

Not really sure, but with root you dont really have to be carefull for waranty issues. You can very easily unroot your phone with SuperOneClick root and there won't be any trace left
Thank you for such a quick reply, i think i‘ll attempt it with a temp root and if it doesn't work i‘ll root it permanently since i will be flashing ROM‘s to it in the future.

The app disabling is not "linked" to the rooting process.
If you disable apps using a temproot they will stay disabled until you factory reset the phone or re-enable them.

I tried, and it didn't work. Anyone know if it is possible to get rid of those two icons from the app drawer?
Just a word of warning: if you freeze some important apps and do a factory reset (using default recovery) you will probably get stuck on boot animation or beyond.
That is what I did. I froze LG Home using AntTek App Manager, then did a factory reset without unfreezing it and I was stuck after the first Setup Wizard. I had to reflash the phone using NVflash.
Bloat Freezer is free on the market and works much the same way as titanium for freezing apps
I've been having this issue for a bit now and finally fed up enough to seek help.
I attempt to uninstall an application from my Moto X (running 4.4.2) and it immediately crashes the phone. I've done a factory reset on the phone and after installing a test app and trying to uninstall it right after it does the same thing. So basically any app I install I'm stuck with unless I wipe the phone. I took a video of the process. It doesn't matter what application I try to uninstall as it does the same thing with all of them.
apparently I can't post links to my youtube video until I get 10 posts, I suppose I could send via PM if someone wants to see?
no idea how to even troubleshoot this.

Its not much of a problem, but install xposed installer from the internet, then download wanam xposed within the app/play store. Restart phone after activating the module on from installer. Go to security hacks and click "Fake System Status". Restart phone. Voila! You won't see that problem any time soon after that.

I tried two rooted debloated roms that both said OTA disabled and i got the nag notification on both. Disappointing!
Same here! I myself used TB to freeze all the system apps which were supposed to trigger the OTA updates, but I still got it. I moved the update.zip from the cache directory somewhere else, so if I accidentally hit update, nothing will happen. But still a nuisance.
Anyone with an idea?
Is this a new problem? For dumb reasons I ended up having to reflash Rydah's stock rooted 5.1 image yesterday and starting mostly all over, it's a pain in the butt. I did freeze pr.adapt and update center but this notification popped up to update. I definitely do not want to update. I thought the rooted ROM blocked updates? I guess not because the notification is there. I tried disabling Google play services notifications but the notification persists.
---------- Post added at 02:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:39 PM ----------
OK guys, I got rid of my notification. I used titanium backup and froze everything I could on the following list,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g4/help/debloat-package-list-lg-g4-t-mobile-h811-t3168181
I froze very few from the following list, still working on it after my mishap yesterday.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/lg-g4-stock-debloater-list-g4-variants-t3167297
The notification was still there, but I decided to reboot and now the notification is gone. Hopefully it sticks. Where can I find the update.zip so I can delete it and clear up some space.

As of yesterday and last night, update.zip did not return after I froze all those apps. I wish I could've pinpointed the exact app. All I can say was I froze all those apps on the first list, and maybe line one or two from the other list and the notification was still on the screen. I rebooted because after freezing so many apps, I was worried about a boot loop. My phone booted fine and the notification was gone and it didn't come back. I just checked cache and update did not come back
Well damnit, the update.zip came back probably last night. I don't have the notification though, that is gone but I'm not happy having that file come back. If anyone at all can pinpoint the reason it comes back, please post!

Mine came back too. Deleted the update.zip again.. but would like to disable it for sure.
You could always try moving the files, then put a same-named read only (e.g. chmod 440) file in it's place - or maybe safer yet is put a directory of the same name there.
I was doing a data migration Via Titanium backup for my new Razer 2 from a OnePlus 6 and decided to try it's trusted face restore. I had tried magisk modules and apk downloads from other websites when I found out it wasn't available out of the box. I'll add the apk itself and the titanium files. Let me know how it works with just the apk. And if the bare apk doesn't work use titanium back up and let it restore as a system app.
EDIT:
Time to resurrect an old thread, I removed the app and tried it again using the packages I provided and ran into the same issue. Attached below is a titanium backup of my new working app. If you cannot get it working with the attached zip download the latest NANO Open GAPPS package available at https://opengapps.org/. I got it working again by installing the nano package. Let me know how it works guys ?

app cannot be installed.
As of now read the updated instructions and you should be set on getting trusted face working. Quick summary is install the nano GAPPS package and it will appear in settings -> security -> smart lock. I think the install via app method in the original post didn't work because there were missing libraries that the package installs.
Smart locks do not have face recognition. (Have you received a security update in the last six months? This system cannot be updated in China.)?

No, I haven't had any updates since February. Looks like Razer already cut support for the 2
I'll look and see if there are any methods that can be used in China for this. I have a feeling the downloads will be blocked since it's a Google app :crying:.

No, I haven't had any updates since February. Looks like Razer already cut support for the 2

I like to play games, but this phone, the system is very bad, inexplicable Caton, I think rp3 will not be launched, rp2 system update should seek third-party development (if there is a very good third party I am willing to try)。:highfive:

Honestly I'm thinking about trying to build AOSP like lineage from scratch for this thing. I agree that the system is pretty bad.

I did see where the Razer Phone (first phone) was now LineageOS supported, too. First saw it unofficial, and as of yesterday, officially supported.
