[Q] Cannot play any video from any source on HD+ - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently (early February) factory reset my HD+ and then let it update completely to the newest stock software version before rooting it. Now, whenever I try to play a video, whether it is an m4v/mp4 file I manually placed onto the SD card, or a streamed video from Vudu, or a downloaded video from Vudu, or a streamed video from Google Play Movies, or a downloaded video from Google Play Movies, it won't play. At all. It opens up whichever video player I choose (I've tried the built-in player, BS Player, MX Player, and VLC), but the player will then load endlessly. I can't seek forward by clicking the progress bar. When I try to play a movie direct from the Vudu app, it buffers endlessly, even for a video I've downloaded. Same with a video from Google Play Movies. Sometimes the loading circle or buffer notice will freeze, and I'll get a notice that whichever app I'm using is not responding and if I want to wait or close.
I haven't been able to find anything about this issue that anyone else is having. Any ideas?

I'll take a wild guess that its from rooting stock.

[Q] Can't Play Videos from Web?

This question has been asked but never answered. This is a serious problem for the Captivate. any page that has iPhone specific videos cannot be played on our phone. however these videos are simply mp4s that we should be able to handle. especially since mp4s loaded onto our phone can be played. but when we click on a video link in our browser (not just default browser) it says the video wasn't made for our phone and doesn't play it. It seems to be the video players fault because it launches. is there anyway to unlock this feature? if not can we have the browser use another player?
not sure, I am able to play mp4 links/files on my Perception. Do you have a link we can try?

[Q] Mp3 / Youtube not working -- Nookie Froyo for EMMC

I am running Nookie Froyo for EMMC
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=926749
I have the weirdest problem mp3's will not play and when trying a youtube video is says, "Sorry, this video cannot be played"
Seems like some kind of codec issue. Any ideas?
Yea there is some kind of audio codec problem with playing mp3 on Froyo. I noticed that too with youtube app. It run but won't play any video. However, with flash extension and going to youtube.com on Dolphin Browser, the music played. I've also noticed Gameloft games have no audio too but other games have audio. I guess audio source from ogg worked but not mp3. I think we need to wait for a kernel fix.
I was able to get at least MP3s playing by downloading the sideload update zip file for 1.0.1 from B&N directly, unzipping it, and copying the contents of /system/lib/dsp to my device, then rebooting. YMMV, but it at least got stock and winamp to play MP3 files, though winamp still wont play shoutcast streams... its little by little though i guess.

Either it doesnt work with the files from the 1.1.0 update or i did it wrong
Edit: Just restored the original files, then put the 1.0.1 and youtube nor pandora work. Theres something else thats changed that prevents it. Youtube.com with flash works albeit the video is very laggy (sound is fine though)
I pulled the /system/lib/dsp folder out of the 1.1 root flashable zip, copied it (after backup up current dsp folder) to my Froyo 0.5.9 nook, running on eMMC, and rebooted. I can now play mp3s, however, I have to launch them from root explorer, which is less than desirable.
I just upgraded to froyo 0.6.8 via EMMC, dual boot, and dalingrin's OC kernel and Mp3 playback seems to be working fine, however, mp4 streaming apps like youtube, pandora, and cnet tv all seem to be broken still.
Someone in the forums said they got Youtube to run after clearing the Dalvik-cache but that did not work for me.

Video streaming

I have Cryogen with tablet tweaks running. Video play fine, but I'm trying to get MLB At Bat to stream games. I got the app to allow streaming on unsupported devices. The videos works fine, and if I go into a game before it begins, I get the please stand by until the game starts. When I go into a game to watch it, I get a white screen. I'm thinking it's a hardware encoding problem, any ideas?

Make moved mp4's show in Videos?

Wife got one of these for Xmas.... Kindle Fire HD 32gb.
I've got a bunch of mp4 videos that I am transferring to it, but they don't show up in the stock launcher under videos (on Device).... I can get to them using the ES file manager, but just checking there isn't something special you need to do to make them show up instead.
Use the personal videos app and the will play just fine; if you want to play other formats use the MX Player, it just plays everything you trow at it.

[Q] Play Movies app and m4v files

I have a microSD card with a bunch of non-DRM m4v movies on it. I had a Hisense Sero Pro 7 and with this card, Google Play Movies would see the movies and play them no problem.
Then, I switched to the Nook HD+ a while back. I can't remember for sure, but it seems I was able to play movies off the card (either with stock ROM or with CM10.1, I can't remember). Now, I tried this morning, and Play Movies app does not show any of my local movies when I go to My Movies. Music files show in Play Music, so I know the SD card is working.
Am I crazy? (rhetorical question). Does the Nook HD+ play m4v movies with stock or CM10.1? If not, what is a good, cheap (doesn't need to be free) player that will play back these m4v movies (high quality BR rips)?
Thanks.
OK, I'm not crazy. I have another HD+ that I had unboxed a few weeks ago, put CM10.1 on, and put back in the box and on the shelf.
I fired it up and started Play Movie app. It sees the movies fine and plays them. BUT, it's an older version of Play Movies. The older version is 2.4 and the new is 2.5. The older version had (and I say "had" because it just auto-updated to 2.5 and I lost 2.4) sections called TV Shows, Movies, and Personal Videos. My movies were under Personal Videos. Now, with 2.5, no Personal Videos section.
So, how do I get 2.4 back or how do I get 2.5 to see my m4v movies?
I found a 2.4 APK for the Play Movies app and uninstalled 2.5 and installed 2.4. Works great again!
Hopefully Google will fix 2.5 (assuming it's a bug that personal videos is missing) soon!
I have found that irrespective of hardware or software, MXplayer is the most versatile of the video player apps. It has multiple codecs and will recommend download of any additional ones needed for a specific file. I have played multiple mV4 movies successfully on multiple devices including the NookHD+. There is a free trial and really worth the 5 bucks.

Might want to have a look at Dice Player, very nice too.
Sent from my HD+ Running CM 10.1 from emmc
MX really is the best one out there, updated frequently too.
That play movies app that came with the nook is really nice though. I like the way it works.

Currently, I am "testing" two apps, BSPlayer FREE and QuickPic. Both are working fine with my m4v files. Both has good UI. But, I'll kept only one in the end.

Well, BSPlayer FREE wins out. One can zoom in or out, change the brightness and volume all from the screen.
