Do that with Tizen, I think not.
Kind of think you will need a Note that supports Bluetooth tethering

Anyone know of an app that lets the gear work as a remote button to take a picture with your note camera? I believe the sony smartwatch has this feature...i think this would be a nice feature, as you can be in each picture you take and decide when the shutter goes off with a simple tap on the gear screen...
I had that on my Note-2 with Sony Watch.
I don't know of anything for Note-3 and Gear. However, the Note-3 by itself does allow for voice triggering of the camera.

I know you can trigger it by voice, but how cool would it be to see your note camera lens on the gear to see what picture you're taking...and once you're in the picture just tap on the screen to take the picture...
Agreed.
You have identified what could be a great app for the Gear.
I hope developers start releasing Apps for the Gear. It is disappointing that no new apps have shown on the Gear / Samsung Apps store.

Yep, I'm sure it'll come in time: See either camera on either device

This device was released very quickly in order to beat the others to the punch. Therefore, it is not refined yet. Apple will release theirs when it is consumer ready and say they are the first. People will believe it too! Not a hater. Every company claims they have the best in the world.

I liked how my HTC One would allow pics to be taken with my bluetooth ear piece. It was like having a remote control to the camera...pretty neat

They have this for the pebble. Why not Gear?
Try Camera Remote (Free or Pro): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.busywww.cameraremotepro

I was wondering the same
Wouldn't camera remote work both ways via Bluetooth? I will give it a try when I get a chance and report back if no one does by then

Hey folks,
I thought it would be interesting to see whether the Glass Home launcher and its companion apps would work on the Gear - FYI the APKs I'm playing with are the XE7 ones at zhuowei's github site, although I note that Google have now posted the XE11 image at developers.google.com/glass/tools-downloads/system
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the launcher loaded up, recognised my "ok glass" voice command, and managed to go off and do the right thing when I asked it to "google how tall is the eiffel tower?"
However it seems to be unhappy about a few things (lots of FCs) - in particular the lack of WiFi on the Gear, believing that the device is offline even when it's actually tethered to my phone via Bluetooth, and the camera didn't work for me.
Anyone else got "Glass on Gear" experiences to share?
Cheers,
Martin
Good idea. Will be interesting to find out what needs to done
I do however feel my watch is a lot more useful than Glass (apart from lack of gps/wifi)
Provide some links I want to see this launcher etc.
Sorry, I'm a newbie so my ability to post links is somewhat limited. Let's see if this works... github.com/zhuowei/Xenologer
I think it's going to be a great way of getting a forward look at what to expect with Glass - and the Nexus watch And heck, we may well have the proper Glass SDK before Samsung release one for the Gear...
The UI is reasonably navigable using voice and swiping the touch screen. The Glass fonts work well on the small screen size, unlike say stock Android apps running under Nova or the Google Experience Launcher. Glass Home doesn't know about your non-Glass apps, though, which is understandable if a little disappointing.

Quite interesting.. Im interested mainly in the contacts app.. Going to give it a whirl.
EDIT: Sadly didnt work as I hoped, no launcher icon.. when I manually run the intent just crashes.. BOO !
The launcher on the otherhand could be interesting.,,
Contact handling on glass is weird. You need contacts in your gmail account, then need to add individual contact to glass manually via app/website

Oh.. Yikes.
Staying away from that !
I'm working on poking through the Glass launcher and companion files to see if I can find anything. I tried to change the DPI so all of the text fits on the display because it cuts off most of the text, but it doesn't seem to cooperate.
Video demo of Glass on Gear
And here's a nice little video (1 minute) that I made demonstrating the Glass launcher on the Gear:
You can also read a bit more about my experiences hacking around on the Galaxy Gear on my blog at martinh dot net.
Happy hacking!
That is awesome.

The idea is excellent, although there's other factors to consider.. tethering always being active is going to be a battery drainer, along with the launcher constantly listening for commands..
Interesting thread... Looking forward to more updates on this... If I can get Google Now to work on this device paired without rooting the phone, Google Glass sounds pretty darn cool

It's also a bit clunky in that you have to swipe down to go back to the "ok glass" prompt, unless there is a voice shortcut that I've missed. It would be great to go totally handsfree with this, but shaking your wrist doesn't have an analogous effect to nodding your head when wearing Glass.
Oh, and the Bluetooth tethering is a bit flaky and tends to come unstuck after you have done three or four searches - going to look into the automatic reconnection thread when I get a few spare cycles

You can run the Google Experience Launcher from Kit-Kat, which will give you the "leftmost home screen is Google Now" feature. If you choose US language and download the offline speech recognition pack then you should find that the mic is permanently active too
Does that still allow me to get notifications pushed to the watch?

Nice work!
The only way to go back using glass is to swipe down
Sounds like motion sensors are handled differently on each device (possibly Samsung propriety on the gear?)
What settings are shown in the settings screen? Is it only 'google' phrase that works? I think take picture and record are default on glass without need for app. Contact related stuff requires adding manually via app
Hey everyone:
I have been installing and uninstalling lots of apps and widgets to determine what works on the Galaxy Gear Smartwatch. I've got my Gear Null Rom'med and connected to a Galaxy Note 1 Phone. Since I am not giving up my Note 1, the Galaxy Gear looked to be my only choice thanks to the work of the NULL ROM developer. Mostly everything on the Gear works-- except notifications, weather, and third-party contact apps. I'm looking forward to the SMS developments going on in another thread. My partner also has the same phone and Gear, so I've got two mouths to feed!
Otherwise, these are the best apps for the Gear 1 that I have found so far. I am learning some new stuff too, so there may be a part two in the near future.
Please comment, looking forward to your feedback, and I salute all of the developers who are continuing to hack the Gear device. Thanks guys!

great list - i use voice translate as well on mine and another one that's a big help when travelling is Word Lens - lets you translate signs by using the camera snd brst of all it does so without the need to tether (caveat - cost $4.99)

Great to see another Torontonian using the same watch/phone combo that I am! What a fantastic and informative video as well...I can't wait to get home and try out that remote media controller as I have my note automatically connect to a decent set of Bluetooth speakers when I walk in the door. It'll be really cool to control the music from anywhere in the house..
I noticed that you are using a stock touchwizz ROM on your note. What version of gear manager are you using and with what degree of effectiveness? I am using an AOKP kitkat ROM on my note that I absolutely love and don't think I could tear myself from but I may just nandroid and try stock if you tell me that there is greater functionality..
Great video! Nicely edited and covers a lot of mysterious capabilities n features that aren't immediately obvious to beginners-including myself. Nicely done!
PS: Love Google Goggles and Price Rythem for instant product information, nutritional facts, reviews, current pricing! Either scan the bar code or take a picture of the item, and your done!
Runner up would be Pie Controls to quicky access your favorite apps. from your watch face.

Hey fellow Torontonian! Does the KitKat ROM on your Note 1 allow you to keep the S Pen features?
I can only get to Gear Manager 1.2 and basically none of the notifications work-- the Gear Manager is only able to open the Contact app on the phone. The Gear's camera app does transfer photos to the phone automatically. Nothing else works in Gear Manager. I can't give up S Note on the phone, so it hasn't been rooted since Samsung released a JB update a year ago. I wish that SMS and email notifications could work but--- but there's not really any other smartwatch that will work with the Note 1 so I accept these compromises.
Hey guys i dont personally own the VR as its my gfs device. She doesnt root her device so doesnt know much about xda but wanted me to ask you guys the following questions. Thanks kn advance!
1. Is there any devolopment for the VR in general?
2. Is the controller for it useful.if so Whats it good for?
3. Is there any motion sensor thingys like on htc vibe
4. Is there anyway to make it not as blurry? She has s7 edge and i have a note 5. ( we know about the focus slider ontop)
5. Is there music visulation apps? I found grooVR...but not sure if thats the only thing/how to use it while laying down.
Thanks guys
1:yes
2:yes and there are a few options other than samsungs
3:not yet but being worked on 3rd party
4:sometimes blurriness comes from either fog on lenses and/or oil on phone screen or lenses if you ever touched them. Be mindful these are optics and just like telescopes and microscopes you can potentially get sleeks from cleaning them improperly.
5:dont know, i dont use music apps in vr

The controller is mostly useful for games. There are some games that require one. You can find inexpensive controllers on Amazon that work well.

Which Android TV should I get? I was hoping to use one that has a browser, go on Udemy, watch Netflix / Youtube. I recently purchased this, but it has a real "Made In China" feel to it:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S9VYCNZ/
Not that it's a bad thing, but I was hoping to get something a little more modern. I tried the Firestick 4K and really liked the interface and that you can speak into the microphone, but not sure if it's the best one for me.
Can you make a suggestion?
Thanks!

Nvidia Shield hands down best Android TV box out there. I don't think it has official browser support and not sure about Udemy but Netflix and YouTube work great and in 4k too.
