Aluminum Frame Review (Fits ALL VARIANTS) - G2 Accessories

So I took the plunge and purchased the aluminum frame found here:
I just got it in the mail and fitted it to my Verizon G2. Here's what I found:
1) As it's a bumper frame it doesn't cover the whole phone (duh) but the frame interior is fitted with a thin foam material to absorb shock and help with the fit. padding is found on the sides and corners of the frame's interior.
2) It comes with a screen protector. (dry apply 4h hardness aka throw away protector)
3) the lip on the front of the phone gives plenty of allowance for screen protectors but is so thin I'm afraid it may eliminate any glass screen protectors except for maybe the iLoome flex which is .12mm thick.
4) As the back is exposed I'm also investing in a body film like this.
5) Shipment was much faster than projected which is nice since it arrived on my doorstep from mainland China in only 2 weeks.
6) The fit on the front is great, but there are gaps between the back of the frame and battery plate. I was surprised by this since the VS980 is supposed to be the thickest G2.
7) as the back is open the aluminum does not interfere with my signal at all- not wifi, not 4g, nothing.
8) There is a cut out to access the Sim tray, but got to really want it out. Otherwise, you'll need to take the bumper off.
9) My phone can now stand on it's own! May come in handy every once and awhile.
Here's some pictures I'll answer any other questions you guys may have.

this is exactly what i was looking for.

Awesome! Thanks! just what I needed.

Do you screw it in?

yeah, there are 2 tiny screws at the bottom where you secure everything together. I should also mention how it actually ships with spare screws and a driver.

Bought this with a brushed steel wrap from slickwraps. Lets see how well it turns out on my black G2

Thanks for the review! Do you think you could take a picture of it standing up and also a picture detailing what you said for #6?

I bought a metal case for my last phone (Note 2) and it made reception worse. Maybe you guys will have better luck with this one

I ordered this in Champagne and the IQ Shield for my white LG G2... I hope it works out. Thanks for the review, I'll post back when I get mine (2 weeks shipping on the case)

I've had it on my phone since the write up and signal is going strong. Both wifi and 4G. I'd notice a drop because I'm on this beast phone all day.

Rock on thanks bud!

thanks for taking the plunge buddy! ive had my eye on this one for a while but since i too have the vs980 i was weary of getting it as most cases stated they were compatible with the verizon model but in reality arent. i like bumpers and have a tpu that isnt made for the vs but it works. i ordered one of these and am excited to get it now. thanks!

Has anyone tried a case like this?

Although that looks nice, I believe you'll have problems with signal and GPS, etc. Maybe wireless charging too if you have the VZW one.

Good to see people are giving this bumper a try. I've bought 4 cases for the vs980. This one finally adds a premium feel to the phone. And now I have some wet apply clear body film on it I think it's protected enough.
Whoever requested pics of it standing up I haven't forgotten about you. They're coming!

I would buy this in an instant if it wasn't for the bottom right corner. That eyesore should have been smoothed off like the other 3 corners

I think it was meant to be there because that's what holds the phone up if you're setting it on a flat surface, so you can watch videos or w/e. at least, that's what makes the most sense.

Yup! If you look real close at my pic of the bottom of your phone you can see the screw holes.

Matte battery cover?

Hi guys,
I've seen the DIY project which is a pretty decent looking alternative but I was wondering if anyone has seen an actual Matte Battery Door yet? It'd be cool to have one like the Epic 4G's which still said Google on the back. (I think the Google looks oddly classy )
My searches have come up kinda empty so thought I'd ask.
Mini rant.... WHY?! WHY???! Is the back cover so prone to scratches.. it been only a week and a half or so and already I've seen scratches developing, in fact another happened just today.. it's really the one and only thing I don't like about it.. not sure what they were thinking..
Well if anybody has seen alternatives please let me know!
Thanks!
There is the Invisible shield Dry which is a matte back protector for it. It looks pretty sleek.

Plasti Dip it
you can get the invisibleshield dry from any of the sprint stores-- it's all they carry.
if you get the invisibleshield from ZAGG, they send the "wet" version, which is the cover everyone's used to.
the dry version is matte, and thinner, and doesn't use spray/sponge/liquid. it's not as "tacky" or sticky as the wet version, and you can still clearly see the google/samsung logo.
just be real sure to follow the instructions, squeegee from the center out, and give it a couple of days to fully cure. i saw a bunch of micro bubbles and what look like flaws after applications, and it looked like the dry shield didn't fully seal around the tiny dots on the cover, but after a couple of days it was perfectly sealed in. don't squeegee too hard, especially around the curves. it'll stick, and give it a day or two.
pretty happy with it, and it comes with the regular clear/tacky/sticky front shield, too, which is also applied dry. i found the squeegee to be a bit too stiff, and it's easy to dent and stretch the shield when squeegeeing it out.
ZAGG says to keep the device off, cuz the heat or something will affect curing. i just left mine on after application, and everything is perfect. there's orange peel, but it's minimal. no problems with touch sensitivity, and if anything i think it's better because fingerprints and oil don't show up.
i wonder if it's even worth shielding the front, though. i have an old blackberry that had nothing on it, and the screen i think is plastic, and i treated it like crap. no scratches.
but yeah, just go to a sprint store. they have em. best buy around here only sells the front shield. i prefer the dry matte back because it's thinner, and still does a good job.
fyi: ZAGG's guarantee and return policy are top notch. registering on their site is simple, and they'll ship out a replacement pretty quickly, and you just mail back your old shield as proof. they don't care what condition it's in. before i just ripped off an old shield and slapped it on a piece of paper.

Its Phantom Skins that sells it.....
So the Nexus S still doesn't have any third party back covers or battery doors? I can't stand the shiny plastic back. All I see on ebay are oem battery doors that are the same thing. Don't want to use a sticker/shield or dip.

I imagine that is because of the NFC that there aren't any replacement doors.

Correct.
The white version of the Nexus S actually has a very nice textured back on it. I wanted the white color to begin with but after seeing (and feeling) the difference between the backplate on the black version versus the white version, I much prefer the white one. The black one has no grip to it and, like the OP said, it scratches way too easily.
Yeah I thought about the zagg body shield but they unfortunately only had the screen. I decided to grab the wet one instead and I've never had better luck applying a screen protector.. heh the "wetness" really makes it easy to get the bubbles out and it cures awesome.
As for the battery cover.. it's already got a few scratches, but on top of that in the lower left corner it doesn't seem to snap in very securely, even in general use when tapping on the lower left part of the phone you can feel the battery door.. "click" a little bit as if its not latched properly, it makes a audible click sound as well.
I resolved this issue by putting a very thin strip of scotch tape on the inside of the door along the edge which produces just enough pressure to keep the clicking from happening and it feels more secure. (No you can't see it )
SO I'll probably just buy a new battery door eventually and use a body shield.. hopefully the new one will latch a bit more securely as well. It's not a big big deal, and the DIY fix by me is definitely just me nitpicking the tiny click feeling but still.. I think Samsung makes good products most of the time but they really should step up the build quality a little bit.
Thanks for the suggestions though guys
Actually I think I'm going to try the plasti dip on the existing cover to.. I could see that helping the latch as well because it would be just the tiniest bit thicker it would seem.

I ordered 3. What a bargain!
FYI for those that care, these are wet application protectors. I personally do NOT like wet application protectors.
Just placed my order. Not sure how well this product performs against yellowing or UV but we'll see. @ 80% off I ordered 2 just in case lol

Not at all. It is applied with water. So it doesn't come off at all.
FYI. I ordered an Exo Skin the same time as this. the Exo Skin has already arrived and been installed while this hasn't even shipped yet.
And that's with the extra $.99 for "priority" processing.
Tell you what, the clarity, feel and resistance to fingerprints/oils of these is much better than VZW ones. I ordered two last week at regular price and received them in 4 days. I ordered a few more at this price.

Pretty much covers whole screen except camera/sensor/notification light/earpiece. It goes edge-to-edge which may be a problem with some cases. Though I find these wet application protectors are not as prone to having edges pushed up by cases since they adhere better to the screen. Haven't had an issue with my diztronic case and this screen protector.

I purchased some of these protectors and installed them on my G2. The feel is good, installation was typical of a soft film protector. I installed the screen guard and back skin two days ago, and have noticed a problem.
On my screen I noticed what appeared to be scratches. I was afraid I scratched the glass before I installed the protector. The scratches run in the long direction of the screen and vary from 1/16th to 3/8ths of an inch long and are about 1 to 2 pixel rows wide, and are randomly located all over the screen..
On closer inspection I noticed on the back skin a number of scratches that look just like the defects I see in the screen. These did not show up until last night, so I have to conclude that they are defects in the adhesive application from manufacturing, that did not show up until the moisture from the protector installation had evaporated. I was getting ready to return the phone as defective until I noticed the same defects on the back skin.
I only paid $2 for the set, so still a good deal. But slightly annoying.
Definitely worth two bucks
I've had mine applied for over 3 days now, long enough that I can give a decent opinion of the product. As other members said, these are wet application protectors, and I was concerned when mine showed up in a plain white envelope SOAKING wet. Luckiky it didnt seem to have any impact on the installation. I've applied dozens of wet application protectors, and this was no easier or harder than the rest. There is a very slight orange peel texture visible (nowhere near Zagg level), but i can not feel it. The fit is great, leaving no gap on either side of the screen, and an uncovered area at the top and bottom about the thickness of my thumbnail (it looks like it would accommodate a Ringke Slim-type case if one became available without touching the protector). It is physically tackier (or less smooth) than higher end films, but not unbearably so. The fit of the back cover is acceptable, and does WONDERS for the G2s normally slick back. You will want to do as the instructions say and let the pieces that apply to rounded areas dry completely before trying to stick down. My only real complaint is that almost all edges have no bevel or taper to them, attracting lint and just feeling odd when you touch them, like you might accidentally lift an area up (which hasnt heppened, once dried, it feels very secure, but it's always in the back of my mind).

Take a look at the screen when it is displaying a white or grey background, and look for rainbowy/glimmery lines running the long direction of the phone, They are hard to see until you notice one, then you will see them all over. I ordered two sets of protectors, I'm hoping this one is an oddball. If you don't see the lines I might install the other set. You have to look very carefully for them.

D802 intl + incipio dual pro

I bought this case for my LG D802 Asian, and fits perfect, the size is like my Galaxy S2 + Otterbox, less bulky than an Otter.

I bought it at ebay at this dealer:
http://www.ebay.com/usr/cellcase4u
My experience was great, my cover arrived to Mexico in 6 days, very fast.
Personally I think that any cover that fits G2 T-Mobile, AT&T or Sprint will fit D802.
The customer support of INCIPIO is horrible, I dont understand why because the case is nice, not bulky like Otterbox, I think is enough to protect the phone.
Try to check at ebay or ask directly to INCIPIO where to buy the DUALPRO T- MOBILE variant, the models I saw are colored, personally I prefer black, but is matter of taste!
Okay... thanks.. will contact the seller then

It attacts not lot of dust, in the picture seems worse than really it is, if you pass your hand you will clean it easy.
Personally I dont like the Spigen because its bigger and the hole in the flash is so small that could affect the beam and personally I like more the black mate back of Incipio.

Good point about the flash. I read about it earlier somewhere on this forum, but I didn't think much of it. If the flash isn't properly dispersed, it may very well affect picture quality.
I'm planning on getting the white dual pro to match my white G2 that I'll be ordering soon. Hopefully the grey rubber bottom doesn't show dust/lint as much. I'm mainly concerned not with it being there, but that it might constantly be getting on my hands and may make the case slightly difficult to hold (I had a TPU silicon case for an iPod Touch one time and it was terrible with lint).
Do you think there's enough room on the sides of the case to have a tempered glass screen protector there without experiencing any lifting?

Most of the case is plastic and from my point of view this case is optimal because it does not slip from my hands.
About tempered glass, totally useless in phones with Gorilla Glass and total waste of money, for one side, this type of screen (Gorilla glass) never get an scratch with normal use, for the other this kind of screen degrades the clarity of the G2's wonderfull screen.
I have a Galaxy S2 for two year and still I see one scratch, of course maybe you will found something if you look at the microscope hehehe.... but from the normal eye sight, there is nothing and this is what matter most.

Yea, most likely one doesn't need a screen protector, but even with gorilla glass, I would feel more comfortable with one on there. Never know when I may drop the phone by accident and any additional protection helps. I don't particularly like to see any scratches on my screens, so I know it would bother me if there was on there.
Also, I'd probably get a higher resale value for keeping it in better condition!

My case trials........

For the verizon model.
First I tried the Incipio Feather. LOVED it. The slim profile, the rubbery grip, the clean look. But, it didn't offer enough protection around the ends or screen edges for me.
Cheapie on ebay as seen here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/for-LG-G2-V...DA_Cases&var=580258822391&hash=item4179df7db7 This one was actually surprisingly nice and one I'd used for the past 3 weeks. But....the white discolored insanely fast, it turned orange from just skin oils and such. Plus getting the top piece off if you need to remove the phone for some reason is nearly impossible without cracking it.
Enter the Incipio Dual Pro. Ding ding ding we have a winner. This thing is perfect IMO. Just enough rubber liner to cover the entire phone, and the combination around the edge of the phone screen is thin and not bulky yet plenty to offer great protection. Really really great case IMO. Think I'm done searching at this point.
Thanks! I just ordered the incipio dual pro. I was using the quick window case but I slowly began to dislike it.

The AT&T version of the DualPro is rather thin: I wouldn't have felt comfortable dropping it in that case - it didn't feel much more substantial than the Feather. nor does it have much lip to protect the front. And the AT&T one didn't come with a holster; I don't see one listed on the Incipio site for the Verizon version, so I feel confident saying that it doesn't.
Not going to drop it on it's face for no good reason. Anything can happen and I'd rather not take that risk intentionally.
The lip is rather thin, the case isn't that thick, but I don't plan to be dropping it off a balcony either. I wanted a slim profile but full coverage case for the short drops, bumps and scrapes protection. If I was truly worried about a LONG drop with screen shattering potential, then I'd definitely have considered a larger case for sure. But for my needs, the DualPro was perfect.
And it's definitely a verizon version.

+1
I have owned both the case and phone for about 2 months. Got the case for the same reasons as Fastbird. I can also confirms the cases durability.Used by 3, 5, and 9 yo and a clumsy owner. It has been dropped on tile, hardwood, concrete including face down and both case and phone are holding up with not scratches or damage.
Great case but don't get the white one... It will turn orange just like your other one!

Nope, got black/black. Going to eventually Di-Noc in white the hard piece and see if I can wrap it tight enough around the edges to not cause installation issues, but fine with the dual black right now.
Well, mine just got a face down drop on to the wood floor from about 3 feet up, courtesy of my son who knocked if off the shelf I had it on. It's fine I'm happy to report!
Ok, for those of you who wanted a drop test, my phone got one today. From about 7 feet off the ground. I was at work at my plant, had my phone on top of my lunch bag on top of a large metal computer station next to our break area. Someone called me and the phone vibrated it's way down the bag and off the top of the work station, and according to a co-worker who was sitting there, it smacked off the corner of the keyboard drawer that was open on the way down.
I figured it fell when I walked up and saw my lunch bag half flat (it was empty, one of those soft cooler bags), and I feared the worst because it was straight down to cement.
Both the phone and Incipio Dual Pro case are absolutely unscathed. I'm sold.
so i got the Incipio hybrid one, the one you guys are talking about it, and it fell on its face.. noo problem.
i love the case but it fell off from my desk the other day and it cracked from a corner towards the buttons
honestly that's all that was, hope it'll take more accidental beatings and survive.
i really dig the case regardless.. just don't chuck it.
May I make a suggestion I hate plastic or Rubber and I love Leather and glass. For work I need to look great (I need to look money lol) and I found this company Verus from South Korea and then I found they had cases on eBay. Pros: all leather, Holds my ID and Credit Card and very well made, like VERY well made. Cons: took 3 weeks to get it.
Anyway I bought the Black and red leather one to match my watch and bought a black tempered glass screen protector they look Awesome

Hey can you post a photo or two of the Verus case that you got?
I was looking at ordering it, but was not sure if the edges came up to protect the screen if the screen is flat on a table?
thank you

I've looked at that bumper a few times - couple questions:
Does the bumper interfere with your cell reception? (I don't know where Samsung houses the antenna)
Does it give you enough of a lip on the front and back to protect the screen and the camera from touching a flat surface?
Thanks!

No interference that I have found. And from what I can see there is a lip that keeps the back from touching a surface.

I received mine yesterday and test it out. I am on T-Mobile, I usually have LTE with 4 bar using Ringke SLIM case at work and at home. I lost about 1 bar and sometime goes 4g inside a building or at home.
Bumper sucks. S-pen has to be clicked out to be able to get it out of the bumper. You cannot press the clicker with your finger while it's fully seated since the bottom edge of the bumper sticks out so far. Also, the bumper looks like it'll scratch the edge of the phone... minimal padding material. Lastly, the CAMERA is not protected... the phone will rest on the bottom edge of the bumper and the CAMERA, not the top edge of the bumper, because there isn't enough depth to it. So unless you never drop your phone, and if that were the case you probably wouldn't use any protection at all, I don't recommend this bumper.

If you're going to get a bumper case, spring for the extra $10 (it's not even that much, as they currently have a sale going on) and just get the Rhinoshield Crash Guard bumper!
Search YouTube for the reviews of this case for the iPhone 6 and 6+, and the case for the Galaxy S6... phones are dropped from 11.5 feet and higher, and the phone suffers no damage!
It seems if you want minimal case, and to still show off the Note 5, this is the route to go....
this cover looks great
I just received the metallic bumper the OP posted about. It is really a nice looking bumper but doesn't offer much if any protection to the device.
There is a small raised lip on the rear top and bottom that kind of raises the phone up off the camera but not enough. The phone still seems to rest on the camera. There are small cutouts where the antenna insulators are and I haven't noticed much signal loss. Maybe a few dB's.
The S-Pen cutout does require you to use your fingernail to click the pen and pull it out. Once you get the hang of it it isn't so bad.
My son has the Crashguard on his S6. It is an amazing bumper but takes away from the looks of the phone. If you are careful with your devices, the metallic bumper looks great, if not go with the Crashguard.
