[Q] S3 Mini Telus - Custom Recovery Problems - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently got an S3 Mini and I wanted to install cyanogenmod on it. I have experience because I have cyanogenmod on my S4 and TWRP custom recovery.
After I use Odin to flash the TWRP custom recovery to the phone, whenever I try to boot into recovery the screen just freezes and these lines and green film start to appear on the screen.
I have uploaded the picture of the phone trying to boot into recovery
Can someone please help me?
Thanks

you're right, it can't be a I8190. Look at where the camera is (right top side). On the original it's on the left top side

There's literalyl 390248230948023948 variants of the S3 mini, fairly certain it is the SM-G730 confirm it on the model or in settings. Maclaw's recovery or any other recovery is not compatible with your phone, and as far as I know your phone does not have a recovery yet hence why it bootloops. You need to revert back to stock: forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2530506&d=1390328847 and all shall be well. There's no active development on your phone as far as I know but do give this thread a visit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469413&page=11

So can it be that I'm flashing the wrong twrp file? Because I'm flashing the wrong region?? Any suggestions on how to fix this issue and get it working?

It's because there is no TWRP for your device, there are no TWRP or CWM builds for the TELUS S3 MINI the ATT&T S3 MINI and the VERIZON S3 MINI.(as far as I know) Only solution is to compile it yourself, and that's quite involved but there are numerous guides out there.

I see.... Thanks anyways, I may try to compile my own, if I do get it working I will upload it here

http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/10/porting-clockwork-recovery-to-new.html
TWRP is easier to compile after you got a working CWM recovery, as you only need to add in a couple of TWRP flags.
You need to run ubuntu natively or through virtual machine (VMWare, etc) and download the CM source code which may take a while depending on your internet speed (it's quite large about 15gb i think or so )

The same thing happened to me when I tried to install CWM for my s3 mini sm-g730w8( this is the Canadian version for telus) Boot into download mode (VOL DOWN+HOME+POWER) then just choose reboot device and it should be okay. If it still doesn't work then boot into download mode and then flash the stock rom via odin. Also regarding the custom recovery for our phone, even if you did port a working custom recovery the works for our phone, you won't be able to install it because our bootloader is locked; which is also why your screen turned green after trying to boot into your custom recovery. I found 2 possible solutions for flashing scripts and mods: kn0x0ut Toolbox http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2550120 and Flash Gordon http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250555 I haven't been able to try them yet but I think kn0x0ut toolbox is more reliable. I hope this helped

[Q] Issue with TWRP on I9001

Hi all,
I know this is not the right area but I'm not able to post in the DEV board...
I'm using i9001 and now I'm on [ROM][JB][4.2.2][JDQ39E] CyanogenMod 10.1 by ADC Team - Release 5 - Kernel 3.4.x
I've also TWRP 2.6.0.0 Recovery on the phone because CWM has a lot of issues.
ROM and TWRP are from this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2315448
When I try to do a backup with TWRP my screen turns black after some time. The screen turns also black when I disable screen timeout.
Also when I'm in the main menu of TWRP screen goes black after some time.
When screen was turned off I'm not able to return to TWRP. I have to restart the phone.
Three questions:
Does anyone of you have the same issue and maybe solved that?
Does the backup fail when screen is black or is the backup finished in backgroud? Anyone knowing that or knows how to check?
Kind regards
Lukas

Hi,
thanks for your help.
some more questions regarding TWRP.
Acutally I'm running2.6.0.0
Is it possible to "downgrade" to a lower version?
Backups of 2.6.0.0 won't be used in oder versions, right?
How to deploy a downgrade? Can I just do it as an upgrad and install from zip or are there any specials.
Just replacing would work or is it a bricked version which means I have to reinstall CM10.1 and other stuff?
Last: What deffers your build from the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2129298 => TWRP => Old releases => [2.2.2.1] [1] ?
Or can this be also used?
To downgrade your recovery, just download the zip-file for twrp 2.2.1 and flash it via recovery. I don't know if your 2.6.0.0-backups will work with 2.2.1, but i would rather say no.
There shouldn't be any differences between the recovery from rdai's link and yours, you can take any of them.

And special thanks to rdrai for your twrp version

Added your twrp version directly to my folder where I've stored the stable versions for CM10.1 and gaaps. Now you are also in and I have all for a pure, stalbe reset of the phone if needed.
Once more many thanks!

[Q] Not able to install custom recovery in Xperai SP 4.3 .205 Root & BL unlocked

Hi,
I am using Xperia SP, C5302, with Android version: 4.3 and Firmware: 12.1.A.205. I want to install CyanogenMod 11 in my mobile.
Going though different tips and tricks, I was able to root my phone, as well as unlock the bootloader. However, I'm unable to install a custom recovery. It is advised everywhere not to proceed with installing any custom ROM without installing custom recovery.
Currently not able to install CWM recovery in my phone. Also when I tried to boot my phone into recovery, it is not working. Is it because there are no custom recovery installed?
If anyone can tell me how to install the custom recovery in my system, will be very helpful. I've tried installing ROM Manager from Play Store, but it is unable to recognize my device. Also Quick Boot app from Play Store is not able to boot into recovery mode. Also tried using Flashtool and fastboot, not working either. :crying:
Right now, I'm not able to proceed with installing CM11 ROM in my Xperia because I'm afraid I will not be able to boot into recovery mode and hence will not be able to complete the installation and ultimately end up with a bricked phone.
Any help will be greatly appreciated..!!

I've allways thought that a locked bootloader would break your boot to a non-stock kernel. I think I read it from doomlord.
Now I wonder if it only blocks fastboot...
Recently I saw a post about CM10.2 working on locked devices... Now you're saying the same, maybe it started working lately somehow...
Though... Sure you saw that work?
I'm about to relock my device and take my chances, should get to it
Update: You may not want to test something for the first time... This one is tested: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2649923

Just don't reboot into recovery from any software.
Turn off the Tab and enter recovery with the 3 keys method (power+volume up+menu) and you will be able to flash anything in recovery and reboot into system.
Just DON'T EVER reboot into recovery using the "reboot into recovery" option on any software including power menu.
I have this issue for a long time, even when I was on 4.1.2 and that is how I got rid of the problem.

use this Recovery : https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...twrp-samsung-j5-pro-twrp-3-1-10-v2-0-t3728233
then this Kernel : https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...velopment/kernel-refined-kernel-v1-0-t3675500
and you should get Root

Thank you very much. I'd love to try that i'm afraid to mess up.... phone is not mine but my company's....
@Nekrofiili said rooting broke his camera and speaker, do you think it's because of wrong kernel?
Confirmed working on j530f/DS (dual sim)
Thank you!

Which method did you use? The process from the main post or the one posted by @ksa616 on flashing the kernel?

I just followed the instruction in the main post and no issue, no need to flash a different kernel
What version of stock ROM should already be installed for this Rooting instructions to work? I am currently using PDA J530FXWU2AQL4 and CSC J530FOJV2AQL1. Will this work?
Asking
This is work for Samsung J530Y?
Stuck in TWRP 3.2.1-0
Hello All
I followed this thread to root my J5PRO. But when I reboot the system, I get back to the TWRP project screen again and again.
What can I do to get my phone back to use? Could you assist ?
Many thanks

I experienced the same problem, so I had to re-install the stock firmware via Odin. Just look for the stock firmware on the internet (for your phone- mine is J530F), then download Odin and flash it. The process is straightforward and available on the internet, especially YouTube.
Good luck.
Problem with recovery, now Boot-loop
Followed the instructions
When I tried to backup the phone, the storage spaces were all 0MB.
Then obtained error:
' Could not mount /data and unable to find crypto footer'
Now phone is stuck on bootloop.
