Ok...I am a 'somewhat' noob. I do have my phone rooted and have watched many videos and read through the forums. I have not yet flashed to a custom rom, but am thinking of making the jump. Just have a few questions....
Firstly...Anyone have any negative experience with PARAGON's rom? Looking though the many different ones, this one seems to keep catching my eye...
Next...I have backed up all my necessary files including using Titanium pro backup. As I said the phone is rooted. I am running stock 2.1. I have also used one click lagfix. Do I need to remove the lagfix? Can I use Odin to just master clear or do I need to flash to odins stock first? I have rom manger dowloaded also!
Thanks for any input and help in advance!
paragon is an awesome rom
You must disable the lag fix prior to flash. You can odin back to stock as long as you have all your backups. You do not need to be rooted to flash a rom. Odin will get rid of lag fix, but app should do so as well. If you use odin there is an update.zip on your sd. Leave it there, when on stock boot recovery, reinstall packages twice, you well have clockwork recovery. Install zip from sd, choose zip, select paragon, confirm
If you do not disable the lag fix you will get stock in a boot loop

Yeah...I got tired of waiting for at&t to release an update so took my froyo fate into my own hands...so to speak.
I ran Cognition 2.b3 - 3.02 and was pleased with the performance. I started watching this ROM at RC5 and just pulled the trigger today. The process went exactly as described. One thing I noticed is that this modem supports hsdpa, maybe cog3.0x did too...but never noticed. Went outside and turn GPS on and got 12 sat lock in seconds....sweet. locked in within 10'...very nice results.
Anyway, just get your feet wet, try it, don't like flash back to stock, or try another flavor. So far I'm very pleased with this ROM.
Paragon is great ROM. Been running it for about 6 weeks. I'm on RC5 now, waiting for RC6. I've had no issues. I'm running OC/UV (not required) with very conservative settings. Getting great performance, battery life and pretty good GPS.
Enjoy.
Paragon is a great ROM hands down!
Yeah, I'm running Paragon 5.1 and it's been running great. I haven't changed the OC/UV settings, just running default, with good battery and good speed.
Try it, you'll like it.
There's a reason he named it Paragon.
eSPyeL did his homework, paid attention to the details, and doesn't rush things.
If you like the ROM, throw him a bone. He's sticking with the Captivate for a good while and things will only get better.
THANKS for all the input!
I like my captivate! BUT the main reason I am looking to flash a custom rom is even with the lagfix, seems slow compared to my HTC flavors. I MUCH prefer this phone over them just want better responses. Also really want flash. I am an o/c'er by heart...ever since I have owned a PC I have o/c my CPU/GPU. Just like to get the most 'bang for buck' out of my parts...lol.
I think I shall give this a try...hopefully all goes well...
Take a look at Cezars Continuum v 2.1
After trying at least 10 different roms i am sticking with this one.
I am on paragon 5.1 with the 1.4Ghz 500hz kernel. I absolutely love it. Obviously I'm using the OC/UV to tweak it. I'm getting pretty fantastic battery life. Great GPS. I personally love the look and feel to it. I would reccomend this rom over and over again. I haven't found anything that I don't like about it so far. It's a solid working beast of a rom.
I have been running Paragon since RC3 and it has worked great. I have had a couple flashes that seemed to cause some issues with my phone, but when I had more issues than I could handle, I reflashed it and my phone worked great since. My first issues occurred when I flashed RC4 the first time, I was getting a lot if Force Closes of the system. I flashed RC4 again and didn't have any problems. The last time I had an issue was this past weekend with my flash of RC5.1. I was having some slow down issues where unlocking the phone or going back to the home screen would take more than 5 seconds. I just reflashed on Saturday and haven't experienced what I was before.
The flash issues I've had could be limited to my phone, so I won't be giving any grief to the ROM itself, and reflashing seems to fix it.
I like Paragon because it is fast, I like the theme and don't have to change it every time I flash, battery life is good enough for me to make it every day with only charging at night, and it has Bluetooth voice dialing. The Dev is also constantly updating the ROM to make it better and is doing a great job at it.
Seems over all everyone is VERY happy with the rom...Like I said before I have browsed many roms and Paragon seems to be the one.
Couple more questions. Reading through various posts in the forums, there seems to be quite a few different ways to flash. Is it necessary to remove the battery and external SD card to get into download mode then run ODIN to go to stock 2.1 and then master clear? Some say yes, some say not necessary to use ODIN if you are currently running stock 2.1. I have removed my lagfix btw.
Is it necessary to use ROM MANGER opposed to simply booting into revovery mode yourself to flash the rom?
Paragaon defaults when installed with a standard o/c of 1200 correct? Seems most find that very stable, where 1400 is possilbe but less likely to hit.
Thanks again!
So this was my setup when auto-rotate decided to cut itself out on me. I had been using this setup for over a week now at least.
Paragon RC 5.1, default kernel (1200MHz, 500Hz?)
Generation X 2.0 theme, blue version (from i9000 theme forums)
Now, out of nowhere, my phone's gyroscope stops working on me. Out of nowhere as in, phone hasn't been reset, nothing flashed recently, no new apps installed, nothing, just regular usage.
I tried using the methods in the other threads I found (deleting /data/system/ms3c_yamaha.cfg, then running /system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha to manually recalibrate). Didn't work. Reflashed, wiped, all using CWM, nothing worked.
The sensor was stuck, and all the sensor readings would show that it was flat on a table (0,0,213 or something like that, the calibration utility in the Settings menu would show the ball dead center and not move).
Then I got stuck in bootloop and lost 3-button recovery mode after trying to flash 2.2 Rogers stock via CWM and forgetting to wipe data, and having to Odin flash to stock 2.1 AT&T in order to get 3-button recovery back, then flashed 2e, got CWM and clean installed Paragon from there, and then got rid of the AT&T splash screen.
However, I did notice that after flashing 2.1 AT&T (JH7) and booting to check if the update went through, the gyroscope sensor was working again.
Weird. But I guess that's why people say in the forums to flash to stock via Odin...
ANYWAYS. I literally just finished fixing it. What a painful work-around just because of auto-rotate, in order to get the gyroscope working again, and I don't even know why it stopped working. Definitely a huge negative experience. On the other hand, I'm sure it's an isolated incident not to do specifically with the rom.
On the plus side, battery life is reasonable, call quality and signal strength are great, JS3-based which means lots of themes from the i9000 forums, frequent updates, lots of features and oc/uv options. Did I mention it's fast?
Please PLEASE make sure you know how to restore your phone before flash ANY ROM!
I don't personally run this ROM (for the moment but I've heard good things overall about it.
Good thing about flashing custom ROM's - if you don't like it you have a doze others to choose from!
Well I took the plunge and installed Paragon 5.1...and SO FAR I LOVE IT. Blazing fast compaired to stock even with lagfix installed. Haven't had much time to test all things...but so far...SWEET!
I loved this rom. The best.
Senda from my Captivate with Paragon RC5.1 wait for rc6
Well been using it for a few days now, and I must say...IMPRESSIVE! Speed is great! So far I have found no bugs myself. The GPS is AMAZING! Locks in just a few seconds and I can now travel on an interstate at 65 and it keeps up with me, never thought I would see that on the captivate. Only issues really is my battery life is a bit less, but not much. just installed Juice Defender to see if that helps a bit. I am going to donate for this one! Can't wait to see what RC6 will be like...

Juice defender will actually shorten your time between charges....don't use it. Paragon for me has been awesome. I have been running it since rc3 and it has definitely stopped my urge to flash. Battery life has been amazing and average between 18 and 26 hours on my phone (usually around 20 hours). Play with some tweaks, try out the different paragon kernels and play with your uv settings. When you find the right settings you will be amazed!

Issues with Juice Defender? I have heard good things about it....what problems have you had using it? I installed it yesterday, really haven't seen any 'real' difference myself, but I am just using the defualt settings for now.
I am using the default kernel that came with the rom 1200/500. I set via OC/UV all my settings to -75. Max core 1200. Min 100.
I have the 16GB Vodafone UK Galaxy S. Today I was in a city trying to use satnav and it was rank rotten. So I thought I'd see if an upgrade would do it. I was using the very first Froyo that Vodafone came out with - I upgraded to that and hadn't upgraded since. I did have it rooted and 1 click lag fix was on it.
I upgraded to Gingerbread just there, sadly I had to do a factory reset, however it's all working.
I have realised that if I am going to put a custom firmware on it then now is just the right time to do it.
Is there one out there that's stable, and an improvement over the Gingerbread I'm using? Particularly I'd like it to fix the lag (if that still needs fixed) and even better would be fixing GPS/Satnav.
Pinpong blockbuster rom - ticks all your boxes. Get faster fix from market.
Your gps will never be 100% satisfactory in the city, in fact it will probably always be poor - no matter what custom rom you use.

Have you think about CM7? Great Rom, works well on my phone, and add many new things.
Hi Mate, I tried many custom roms and finally settled for
(ROM)GingerCriskeloV77-9LS-CamHack- SIP + NoIncRing I9000/T/M JVP 2.3.4
Cheers
Well, I managed to get it on. Booting up is weird though, it looks for a long time as if the screen is broken, but eventually ti comes on to the Blockbuster lock screen and then everything is fine. It does seem faster - but I'll only really know when I get to one of those situations where I feel the phone is frustratingly slow.
Thanks very much Woolf!
Time allowing I'll give the other roms a shot, although this Blockbuster one does seem to be good enough for me.
Sadly my phone now reboots constantly. it seems to do it when the screen locks

Check you got the installation right for that rom, maybe you had to flash a jvp stock first or some similar omission?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Sorry to hear you're having issues. Try flashing to a totally stock JVQ first (with repartition) once you've backed up, then if you don't like that, try a custom ROM. I don't think many JVQ custom ROMs are worth trying if you want a taste of custom ROMs. Better to try CM7 or MIUI for something fast and different.
As a side note, the best tip I've seen for fixing the dreadful GPS we have with the i9000 is to buy a Nexus S or just ANY other phone! Yes, some radios appear better than others, but nobody can prove anything and it's almost all subjective feedback. A drop in the ocean of improvement needed for satisfactory function. If you must use it, a bluetooth GPS receiver and 3rd party navigation app seem the best way to deal with it.
I've now stepped away from Blockbuster. Even doing the a perfect install it crashed often and repeatedly. I did try upgrading to the very latest and that crashed several times in the past hour. Part of the problem was the rom starts with a lockscreen that has a messaging unlock on it, but it isn't set to an app that comes with the rom, so it reboots every time. Sadly that wasn't the only problem, as I was still getting loads of reboots.
So that's out of the way.
I'm now a lot more comfortable using Odin so I'll be able to try other options. I'll try the other two suggested in this thread first of all.
Next to test is CM7.
Thanks for the help folks!
CM7 aborted. Instructions are incorrect, the file they say to download doesn't actually match the instructions so that's out. Plus it clearly states it's not suitable for day to day use... so I don't thnk the time in working out how to fix it is justified since it looks like it wouldn't be useful.
I'm going back to the original question in the thread, to say that I'm looking for something stable. I now think that a custom rom is not the way to go. However some modifications may well be.
Can anyone suggest some kind of lagfix/speedup that isn't a complete overhaul like CM7, Blockbuster etc, that is very stable and that'll make my phone faster?
Edit : Part of what I was doing to install Blockbuster was install Speedmod kernel. So I've gone and put that on, and used the clockwork mod to root it, and also convert to ext4. I think things are looking pretty fast so far. I'm not sure if there's a lagfix for this, but I'm quite comfortable just now footering around - unlike the complete rom I don't feel out of my depth. So I think I'll be ok for now.
I when i brought the Gnote i want to get a test of the full capabilities of the phone with no lag in every official app.
But then i started by rooting the phone
And then by putting a custom rom .
When i rooted the phone was perfect
But when i rooted after 2 or 3 hours i notice that some apps are not running Properly and in some cases the phone stop working completely ,
In that cases it requires a manual reboot,
Something that made me concern about the phone's Health because the phone was getting to hot , somewhere near the camera.
And then i decided to try different rom, but every one have some problems .
----------------------------
----------------------------
\/
Finally what i mean is, should i stick with just the original rom rooted,
Or try some special rom that has no conflicts with the original apps ?
I had similar issues myself. But then I found this -Cassie' s XtaLiteRom V2 Thunderbolted
Its quick, smooth and the battery life is the best I've seen yet. My phone lasted 1day and 16hours with moderate use!!
Happy flashing

ok i will try it
Hi guys,
I am really losing it with my girlfriend's P990 (originally vodafon branded on the german o2 network). On stock this phone was a nightmare: random crashes, laggy launcher, random reboots / powerdowns etc made it a completely aweful experiance. So I said: ok this should be an easy fix, just install a custom rom and those problems should be gone. Since then I have tried:
- several Modaco Roms
- latest Euro Open Stock LG update (Smartflash)
- Topoggigi with Service Packs and different kernels
- Gueste2x 2.2 with different kernels
- Gueste2x 3.0 and 3.1 with different kernels
- all sorts of different basebands on the roms mentioned above
While I really appreciate the work the devs are doing and the system works alot faster however none of the roms really fixed the other problems: some lost reception, some had non working / freezing wlan, others had gps problems and there are still random shutdowns when the phone is idle.
Can anyone recommend a rom / baseband / ril combination that just works? It's for my gf's phone so I don't need all the ramhacks, undervolt, overclock, underclock gimmicks, I just want a stable phone working for everyday use which does not shut itself off, she does not even care if it's froyo or gingerbread based.
I was trying to avoid pure cm7, which I use and love on my own phone, because well, I can already hear her complain how everything looks different
Big thanks in advance for your tips and suggestions.
For the simple user, with no UV / OC or any tweaks...and great stability and not matching your CM 7 in appearance(obviously urs and hers should not match mate....cause the BOSS is always different...dont take this serious...just joking)
one of the best ROMs I have used was the Topo's 2 with SP3...BBV20E with matching RIL(use GetRIL). If you want stability....the first thing I can think about is Topo's ROM....many developers themselves will agree on this point...he was a big inspiration for the upcoming devs.
Coming to the point of tweaks...this ROM with Spica's HP SR1 Kernel was one of the best results I ever had....three days of battery perf and almost 99.9% trouble free....dont look for 0.01%....you will probably never find tht.
Coming to the point of freezes....or random reboot...i found this hardly in this ROM....nevertheless, you also need to check the correct BB and matching RIL...which you will find in the relevant thread.
tweaks in this....they dont bother your stability....and still remains one of the best GB ROMs.
If you want more info...maybe u can PM me or add your comments to this thread....
But, a word of caution...you will never be satisfied, with the amount of variety and features the other ROMs offer....u still want more....Have flashed more than 14ROMs in less than 4months.thats how the life of a O2X owner is.....and I am enjoying it

Thank you for your quick reply, and yes I agree on the boss part =)
I had topos rom on her phone (with another baseband though) but I had 2 problems:
on SR1 kernel:
with wifi sleep policy set to never wlan just stopped working after being connected for a while: it still showed the wlan connected + full reception icon in the statusbar but no data went through untill I manually turned it off and on again.
To fix that I switched the kernel on his rom (I cannot remember exactly to which one) which fixed the wlan issues but caused the phone to randomly lose all mobile reception until a manual reboot. Maybe this was caused by a wrong baseband. According to getril baseband and ril were a match though.
Other than that the rom was perfect (especially battery life)...but those 2 issues made it useless for an everyday rom. Especially because both bugs happend several times a day.
BTW: Topo recommends using the LGP990AT-00-V20c-EUR-XX-AUG-02-2011+0_CP.fls baseband, not the 20E you mentioned.
Why are you so sure it's software?
I bought a P990 almost two weeks ago, been giving it some nice usage (GPS, Wifi, 3G, a lot of gaming in the subway) still on stock software and I've had ZERO issues with it.
Why didn't you try to complain to your vendor about your faulty phone and get a new one?
you seem to be one of a lucky few then, because from what I hear from other owners of the phone it really IS a buggy phone. Have you tried to return a phone based on lags and errors which seem to occur randomly...it is not like I can reproduce the shutdown / reboot problems, anyway returning it is not an option anymore.
Mate,
you are right...Topo recommended the BB you have mentioned. But, if you have observed the complete changelog....then you may see the v2.0 with SP3 is made with V20E as the base. Personally, I used this and had no issues until unfortunately Topo's father fell ill and also the other ROMs came in, to give a variety.
Your wifi dropping might be a BB-RIL combo....you need to change the RIL according to region, operator and call quality etc....the app suggests a few RILs(if you have noticed in LG RIL Version or Get RIL app)....
In addition to this, there is also a V20M version made by another developer which alsy was working perfectly good...infact a few pple think that V20M is one good version which was a fix to BSOD and also better battery perf....
I am presently changing quite often between Django and Civato ROMs....and I have no issues with these ROMs. I have tried Gueste 3.1 which is very stable, great perf and fluidity...but the matter of changing to more what I am used to...
There are a great deal of variety and feature packed ROMs in the O2X cabinet and we need to be testing and staying which appeals the best in different terms for our satisfaction.

lol that's what I have been trying and the reason for this post. My problem is that I can flash a new baseband / rom / ril after work and test everything like wifi, gps, mobile internet and reception when I am at home. When everything *seems* to work I give the phone back to my gf hoping it's fine now. When she has the phone over the day and comes back in the evening and reports errors, so I start over again. That makes the whole process pretty tedious and I was hoping for a recipe, maybe from another user on a german network to shorten the whole process. But you already gave me a few tips I will also try next!

I don't know where you're from, but from where I'm from you usually have a two-week no questions asked refund period. And yes, I have tried to return electronic devices based on random problems within this period and usually I don't have any problems. Especially if I'm looking for a replacement for the same phone and not just my money back (I know some people who abuse this two-week period and try almost every phone there is... they almost don't need to buy phones...)
If you're outside this two-week period it might be trickier, I admit. But still I was just trying to be helpful. No matter what we do there will always be products with faulty hardware, and this faulty hardware might cause random lags and errors... if this is your case nothing you do will solve the problem, except for a replacement, that's why I suggested it.
And yes, I do realize I'm lucky. Before I bought the phone I did a lot of reading and I read about the random crashes, and saw people saying that a custom rom usually fixed it, so I was already prepared for this. But I'm not experiencing any of it so I'm happy.
Nonetheless I wish you the best of luck!
Gueste2X v3.1 with Temasek Turbo kernel and 218 BB works great for me.
Best ROM I've ever tried.
Reception drops and Wifi problems can be caused by BB not correctly installed.
No offense intended, but are you sure you did that correctly? Because I've seen manuals for installing BB which are outdated, wrong or just lack important data. I flashed my BB in a wrong way before.
Since you are German:
http://www.handy-faq.de/forum/lg_op...-lg_optimus_speed_p990_aktuelle_baseband.html
I am using temasek`s latest KANG-54, its smooth and stable. No problems whatsoever. Oh, and just today i flashed the kernel to ETaNa. Will see how that goes.
Thanatos2x v5.1 -> been using this for a few weeks now, came from Modaco GR5. It's really a very good rom. Fast, stable, not to different from stock LG. I'm using the 725 BB from v20o (with the RIL that came with the rom), tho get ril suggests I get the RIL from v10d NL (since I live in Holland). Haven't tried it since this setup just works great. Reception is good, battery lasts the whole day easily, no reboots or freezes...
After testing several ROMs I decided to use a ROM which won't let me miss a call. I chose MACODO GR6 . It's the most stable ROM I've ever tested. I'm tired of using buggy ROM just for the speed.
thank you guys for your recommendations!
Now I know what to check out next =)
hi there,
does anybody know which kernel wizard_polska uses in his kmicics beta? are there any other known issues then wlan atm? and what about the all-day-problem of reboots/freezes/sleep of death or something similiar? i am looking for some rom that runs more stable and does not have this big bug in it.
Wizard use redpill kernel in his build..but if you wanted to use a stable build and no bugs..just stick with gingerbread rom..try kimic 6 final..im using it right now..
(҂`☐´)︻╦̵̵̿╤── .:system:.
i tried, but all the icons and fonts are so big and there seems so less place on the screen in 240dpi. this is a little luxury in the roms since ICS/CM7 i don't wanna miss!
but i can disclaim to all the other new things. jelly bean is nice and good, i am really happy to have such a new rom on my good old tab and i am proud to the devs who solved that.
BUT for my there is no more all-day-use a long time ago. if i use my tab with battery plugged in, it is just getting empty always reboots when i do not need them and everyday something new that doesn't work, but on the other hand a new partition layout or something else that is working... in the newest CM10.1 there is no bluetooth anymore, i am sure the devs are working on it, but my battery is low all time. the only revolution that could rescue that all would be the linux 3.x-kernel.
and it was fine always to go with the newest of the new roms, but now i am tired of this and just want back to a tab where everything works fine, maybe with such a lower dpi then 240 and to get it perfect the status bar at the bottom with an energy-bar where i can adjust everything i want with one click. and please so that my battery lifes maybe more then - with good luck - one day.
maybe that is too much again...
