My Xperia Z1 has an unlocked bootloader and the TA partition was backed up prior to the unlock. I'm now looking to sell the phone and want to restore the TA and relock the bootloader. I've flashed the phone with build number 14.2.A.1.136 and the stock rom isn't rooted. How can I root the phone and thereby restore the TA backup/relock the bootloader?
I would install recovery, then flash SuperSu update, Restore TA and lock BL This may will leave you with a non booting Z1, I would then reflash the FTF
I have never done this (and only have the ZU) so it is untested. If there is a better way please say so.

I backed up my TA when I was on 534, updated to 527 and now caannot obtain root. Is ther a way to unlock bootlader and root 257 then flash the TA to lock the bootloader with root. I am totally new to Sony. Used HTC and much different.
I use Vroot to root 534 then backed up TA abd tested it,
installed dualrecovery and installed monxDIFIED.
when I connected my Z1 to the computer it ask to update and I did.
Now I cannot root.

Simply use flashtool to flash a .534 firmware and root using vroot or kingoroot. You dont need to unlock your bootloader to do any of this. Currently .257 firmware is not rootable but there are stock custom roms which are pre-rooted based on .257 firmware.
ps. is your bootloader unlocked or locked?
Locked bootloader.
everything working and rooted gain, learn some new flashtool things.
Thanks

Hi, This is probably a really stupid question but....
I'm currently on .257 with root.
If I backup my TA partition on .257 then flash 14.2.A.0.290 and unlock my bootloader. ( I then plan to root with unlocked bootloader)
Will my TA backup still work if I ever want to lock the bootloader again? (even if it means downgrading to an earlier version to obtain root again?)
Thanks
As far as i know the ta partition (alltough the backup) have no firmware version. So I think it will be possible.

I have .290 on unlocked bootloader with stock kernel and root. Since relocking is only a step away should i do it or will i brick my device or will i have locked bootloader without root.

I tried to restore TA partition (which locks bootloader) and this soft-bricked my device. I solved it flashing stock ftf with flashtool. I have the same question, I want to have root in locked bootloader, in order to have drm, keys and dont loose x-reality, and most important bionz processor.

I backed up TA in 534 and restored in 290, I didn't know it could make problems. Anyway, how could I backup TA in 290? There is no real root for this firmware.

Hi guys,
I'm kinda desperate right now. I am using 4.3 with 12.1.A.0.266 firmware.
My aim is to install CWM. For this I need an unlocked Bootloader and Root.
But all tutorials I could find are kinda contradicting themselves.
To root I need UB.
To unlock Bootloader in need to Backup TA partition.
And to backup TA partition I need root.
The tools from doomlord all require the old firmware, but silly me has already updated.
Is there any way to unlock Bootloader without root for backuping TA partition OR root with locked bootloader?
Any help is appreciated
Im afraid there isnt any root method for locked bootloader, so You must flash 4.1 using flashtool, root 4.1, backup TA, flash 4.3, unlock BL, root 4.3 and relock BL by restoring TA. The whole process just sounds hard and its complicated but follow those steps and itll be fine
Cheers

When updating to 4.3 I lose root, dont I? So there must be a way to unlock BL with no root? I think then i would lose my Drm keys, thats why i backuped them on 4.1, didn't I? And i surely can use the backup of TA i made in 4.1 for version 4.3?
Thank you for your help already!
Same, Bro

i am afraid you cant get ur DRM keys back as you didn't took a TA backup before unlocking bootloader.. :
Dear Community,
I recently decided to unlock my bootloader and so I backed up my TA partiton/DRM Keys and went ahead. Today, I reflashed stock marshmallow to get rid of my custom ROM, and I re-rooted so that I could restore my TA partition. I restored my TA partition via the Back-up TA v9.11 tool, that completed successfully, but I'm unsure whether my bootloader has now been locked, or if it is still locked. Does restoring the TA partition automatically re-lock the bootloader or is an additional step required?
My aim for the whole process was to lock my bootloader and flash the Concept software?
P.S. In my device config settings it now says 'Bootloader Unlock allowed: yes'.
Thanks in advance.
