[Q] Video not smooth after 4.4 - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After upgrading to Android 4.4 (stock), the video is not played smoothly.
Every now and then it would freeze for a fraction of a second, which is enough to notice...
Tested with the YouTube and TED apps.
Any suggestions?

I wanted to add that it's not just video that is lagging, but also standard Android/Sense animation. For example when swapping between BlinkFeed articles (right to left), sometimes the animation is not smooth and gets stuck for less than a second, but it's very noticeable...
So the problem is system-wide and not limited to video.
Is there anything I can do?

Can it be an app that I have installed which causes this?
My phone is not rooted...

Could a reset to the factory settings resolve this?

[Q] Resolution issue after upgrade 4.4.2, maybe?

noob here. 1st post
As silly a problem as this is i am gonna throw it out there anyway.
I recently replaced my stock android os on my nook hd+ (4.0) with 4.4.2 from cyanogenMod, and updated today at cm-11-2014522-nightly.
The os works great and is way better at everything then the one from B&N. I have no complaints except that the resolution on my Megapolis game is too high and all the in game icons on the screen are to small. There are no in game adjustments for resolution but where it played fine on 4.0 it is tiny on 4.4.2. I have fully uninstalled and reinstalled the game to no avail. The game developer suggested to reboot, duh, and try another internet connection like DSL. Wow.
If anyone has a suggestion it is greatly appreciated.

Use this app.

Note: These changes degrade image quality drastically
I downscale my resolution to 900p (960x1440, 180DPI) for gaming performance increases. Maybe you should try 720p (768x1152, 140dpi) Reboot and voilĂ , not only do you have huge gaming performance increases, but everything on screen is bigger.
NOT MY INFO/IDEA, GOT IT FROM AN OLD THREAD.

I know. Some kind of bug with the app. I had to download SuperSU, and set preferences to auto grant, so that there is no superuser popup.

Playstore lag scrolling

Anybody experiencing huge lag on playstore? It's lagging like my old galaxy s3....
My current htc one m8 has no such lag. Shouldn't the Tab S2 handle heavy graphic app like the playstore easily?
https://youtu.be/Z2l89lmpvig
Hello,
if you think this is a big problem please do a factory reset. Are you using a Custom ROM? Thank you.
I had stock 5.0.2 earlier, and now stock 5.1.1 (flashed with odin), both showed lag on playstore. There is also some lag when scrolling in YouTube app. But besides that, everything is (almost) smooth in menus, chrome, twitter. Wanted to know if other people have the same experience.
Maybe i'm used to my htc m8, it has no lag or jittery animation at all. Everything is like 60fps animation. On the Tab s2 it's like 30fps (just how I feel it is, I dont mean it literally)
I don't think it's lag, it's more data that can't load fast enough.
You're trying to load and move a lot of data and graphics quickly. It looks like it doesn't get preloaded.
This is very noticeable and irritating.

I don't have the S2,but the S1. However of all the browsers I've tried the stock browser handles it best.
It's hardly noticeable on my S1.
Through the play store app it's also hardly noticeable.
Have the Same Problem you experienced. Portrait and landscape Mode

YouTube Problems on 6.0.1

Anyone experiencing YouTube issues with the 6.0.1 update? When I scroll while watching a video the video lags. I googled some solutions and turned on disable hw overlay in the dev settings and that helped.
But now the video freezes while watching it in landscape. So I'm not really sure what to do.
Tried uninstalling the app and clearing data, cache, reinstalling etc. Any ideas?
Bump
Youtube for me is ok , i am un 6.0.1
I get lag while scrolling too
I have no issue with youtube. I use it daily and never see a bit of lag. Mind you I use an aosp based rom that is 6.0.1.
Damn. I might have to do a full wipe.
I enabled 'disable hw overlay' and all is ok, both portrait and landscape mode.

This solution for me worked for Youtube and Twitch, but totally broke Netflix (no image on videos, just sound) and I had to reverse the change to be able to watch on it again.

I have the same issue and its making me crazy! I'm going to try downgrading to a different version of youtube to see if it continues. If that doesn't work then I'm gonna format the phone completely

Probably won't work, because even twitch has the same issue, so this seems more general in stock 6.0.1 ROM.
If your clean install work please post here.

Now it works if you enable disable HW overlay in the developer setting. I heard about this fix somewhere.

Yes, I said in a previous post. This fixes the YouTube problem (and Twitch as I saw with the same issue), but it breaks other video apps. After switching this option in developer settings I couldn't see videos in Netflix anymore (you can hear it, but no image).

Lol now I remember where I saw it. Well I don't use Netflix so I'm good for now. Hope an update fix the issue
I'll do a clean install later on next week. Upgrading computer currently. But hw overlay does fix the YouTube problem for now at least. I have to pause and press play on the video to get it to not freeze so that's still annoying
Any updates from anyone? Just upgraded to the newest update and the problem persists. Hw overlay still fixes the problem however my other video apps like Netflix and Google play movies just give a black screen until I disable it.
(Was a clean install)

Works for me! Still some laggy scrolling in other apps - but YouTube now works perfectly.
Running CM13 latest nightly.

Firefox laggy media playback ?

Both video and audio stutter when playing media video. Tried on Youtube and Pornhub.
However this didn't happen before yesterday when i tried to play flash content http://www.ddsahyadri.in/liveTv.php. This happeed after this incident or maybe i never noticed this lag as i hardly use HP to stream video.
I tried to fix this, Disabled all addons( ublock origin, privacy badger,Https everywhere, Dark bg &Light text) and tried playback again, nothing changed. Video was still laggy.
I've reinstalled Firefox with no addons installed , still stuttering is present.
Anyone else have this issue ?
Have you tried to clear app data and try again?

Yes, yes i did.
So you don't have a choppy video playback on Firefox ?
No. But I don't use add-ons on mobile Firefox so I wouldn't know. Someone said that when under 20% phone becomes slower, maybe that's the deal? Also, did you restart your phone soon?

I have choppy playback everywhere on my Honor Play COR-TL10, ON YouTube, chrome and Instagram as well. It sucks
Hope EMUI 9 fixes it soon. Or we get a custom rom with good graces of developers

The battery was at around 80 percent.
At first i uninstalled FF then rebooted my device after which did a fresh install of FF with no extra addons.
The problem still persisted.
Seeing that nothing worked i thought the theme was maybe causing the issue so i removed the EMUI dark theme did a restart. Installed of FF performed a hard boot. And so after 3-4 reboots the videoplayback on Firefox is not choppy now : )

Video game problem on Moto G5s Plus

Hello everybody. my problem is that once I enter some game (for example cod mobile, guardian tales, etc) after a while of playing the screen freezes, then goes black (with music playing in the background) and the game closes. I tried everything, clear cache, reinstall the game. but nothing changes, it happens to me with all games. I wanted to try a custom rom to see if this is solved. What gaming rom do you recommend? to play cod mobile
How is the space in your phone? too full? and do you leave apps open in background?
Also did you touch the dev options in settings?

What if you try a custom ROM? Then we can rule out the possibility of the ROM being the culprit.
