[Unofficial] Nexus 4 Compliments Thread

There seems to be a lot of people talking about issues with the Nexus 4 and ways to fix them, etc. While that's completely necessary and appropriate, wouldn't it be nice to just have a thread where we talk about how much we like our brand new device? I think so and hopefully the mods will too. Anyway, in the spirit of this thread I'd like to begin with how much I'm liking my Nexus 4:
Things I like:
Screen - The screen is really nice. Even though the screen on my One X had much warmer colors, I'm not at all opposed to the more natural colors of the Nexus 4 (yes, I do believe that the SLCD screens saturate colors, though it's much better and acceptable than the saturation of AMOLED screens).
Call Quality - Call quality is better and louder than that of my One X or Galaxy S II. Though there is a little bit of noise, it's not at all distracting.
Camera - The camera, while not the best on the market, produces quality images. My One X has trouble producing decent pictures using an AOSP ROM, so it's a definite upgrade in this department. Pictures on the Nexus 4 are good to great quality probably 80% of the time.
Things I love:
External Speaker - The external speaker is absolutely wonderful. My first Android device was a Motorola Atrix and, while not the greatest phone I've ever had, I've yet to have a device that beats the loudness of its external speaker. Well, the Nexus 4 is the closest I have found. I was able to still clearly make out the lyrics to songs when I was in a room about thirty feet and two open doors away from the room where my Nexus 4 was sitting. Plus, it sounds very clear even at the loudest volumes. I definitely have no complaints in this area.
Build Quality - The build quality is fantastic. Everyone can rave about the quality of HTC's phones which I do believe are well made, but this device simply feels premium. One thing I admit defeat to with Androids vs iPhones is that iPhones (4/4S, and 5) easily beat any Android device in build quality. This can be argued with HTC devices and possibly a few Motorolas, but I'm entirely convinced that the Nexus 4 has blown the iPhone 4/4S and 5 out of the water. What really has surprised me is how solid the glass is. There is no give like there was on my HTC One X, Galaxy S II, or Atrix. The weight feels very nice in the hand, the metal strip on the side is a nice additional aesthetic, the buttons being the same color as the metal strip is a nice touch, and I really like the feel of the rubber material on the side. Oh, and that wonderful design on the back really grabs attention. Of course, it's very depressing that I have to have a case over it at all times due to the glass back, but I'm confident that a nice bumper and a back screen protector (if that's what it's called) will work wonders.
Android 4.2 - Pure Android is a big reason to buy a Nexus device and the Nexus 4 doesn't disappoint because, well, it's a Nexus device. Android 4.2 is really great. Though it's not a huge improvement over Android 4.1, it doesn't really need to be because 4.1 isn't that old and it's sort of fine with me to just enjoy the awesomeness of Jelly Bean until next summer when we'll hopefully get a glimpse of Key Lime Pie. But it's not like Google to not give use new features with a new Nexus device, and they definitely didn't skimp out. The camera software is pretty great and very much needed. It's just better all around and much more intuitive than in previous versions. I'm also loving the crop options Google has given us and the filters are a nice touch that I've used a few times already (I'm getting into Instagram, apparently).Though PhotoSphere is gimmicky, it's fun as hell and everyone who I've shown the final product to has said something along the lines of "You did that with your phone?" One of the biggest small things I've noticed is the animation when switching between apps. It's ridiculously smooth. I can't remember if this was in a previous version, but I never noticed it on my Nexus 7, so I don't think it was. I don't want to go too in depth here, but all of the Android 4.2 features such as home screen widgets, Daydream mode, and many others, while not being detrimental, are certainly welcome.
So, there you go. I just think that a place where we can all appreciate our Nexus 4 is a great idea, so I made one . No one needs to go as in depth as I did, but if you'd like to, feel free.

We were married on the 29th, but I haven't bought the ring yet.

This phone is just so amazing. I knew that HTC's build quality was good (Sense sucks), but this had even better build quality and SMOOTH STOCK ANDROID!!!!

Zero complaints with mine. Coming from a Note II and a S III...still think it's my best device yet. I've had it 10 days already.

The wife and I have both been enjoying ours for two full weeks now and not looking back. We jumped ship from sprint and are saving nearly 100 bucks a month and getting much faster data speeds on T-Mobile prepaid. This is an awesome android experience device without any bloatware and the Dev support that is around in such a short time is simply amazing
Build quality is better than gs3 as far as I'm concerned and I really liked mine, I just couldn't justify paying so much a month anymore for 3g. Win win all around for us!

I love how smooth the screen is. It feels like there's a layer of butter between the screen and my finger, but when I go to clean it, there's no butter on it!

Comparing to my previous nexus one, this phone is much much much better. All I can say is awesome! From one core to quad core, 512MB ram to 2GB, a much bigger screen. What else can I complain? Moreover, I spent almost 600 on my nexus one but now only 400 on nexus 4! Overall, I love this phone for sure!

Ditto on both devices. Ditto on the N4 being the best of the bunch.

Zero complaints. Phone is the best they've done so far. I like every aspect of it.

Awesome device! No issues so far! It's a big hit with the AVN girls!!

Easily the best phone I've had. Its ridiculously smooth UI is great, and the screen is lush.
Also, on got this out my pocket in the pub last night and people were like "OMG is that a Nexus 4?!" You've got to love that effect...!

Not us giving the Nexus 4 compliments, but us telling stories how the Nexus 4 has fetched us compliments :good:
As for me the only thing I had happen was while I was unboxing my phone, I went to test the camera outside. I leave the box there. When I get back my roomy is pacing around the house saying "WHO GOT THE NEXUS?! LET ME SEEEE IT!" lol.

Agree with all the above. This is my 7th Android device and easily the best I've ever used. No issues whatsoever. Forgot this was an LG device. I swore never to buy another product from them after the G2X and here I am...
As far as compliments go, what I've been hearing is "Gorgeous/sexy device!", "The back is so cool" and last but not least, "I'm still trying to figure out how the hell you got one when they sold out so quickly" lol

This is absolutely my favorite phone I've ever owned hands down. Its so fast and that's what I wanted the multitasking blows any smartphone I've ever played with away. I can't wait till everyone has there phone cause I think we are gonna have one hell of a community here.

I have no complaints whatsoever. The one thing that niggled me initially- the buttons taking up room on the bottom of the screen- I'm getting used to. Just a brilliant device through and through.

Yeah I am more than happy with mine. Makes the nexus 7 that I am posting this on feel seriously sluggish and coming from an i9100 which was by no means struggling I cannot believe how slick this thing is. I have got the ear piece buzzing problem but it is so quiet I wouldn't call it an issue.

Love my Nexus 4, I've only 'liked' other phones as they've always had a weak spot that has niggled me.
This beast however doesn't have anything that I don't like, and thus I love it.
Also, it's already a whore. I was the only person in the office of geeks (I work for a software development company) that managed to get one due to the wonky launch. Suffice to say it's been passed around and for all I know jizzed on many times! lol
I was out with some friends the other night and I whipped it out and one of the lasses with us commented 'That's a sexy phone, looks like someone gets paid too much!' the same person also said 'It feels so nice to hold' ... 'insert smart remake here'

i have a HTC ONE but i prefer the nexus 4, am i crazy?

At first I thought the nexus 4 sucked, I don't know why, but now I use it the most
Once you calibrate the display, there are no negatives
Its hard to get dirty (HTC ones back white strips get dirty/stained)
Its as fast as the HTC one, HTC may be a fraction faster opening apps (transition/animation speeds in account)
I only listen to a select few songs, the other 1000 or so are on Google music if I ever want to listen to them
Its a fantastic display, corner edge viewing angles could be better, 1080p appears smoother and better reading in bed, but the display is too long, I prefer the wider but shorter nexus 4/optimus g. Better for browsing
The camera is really good, despite what people say, I took pictures with my s3, xperia s, HTC one xl, nexus 4, HTC one, its hard to differentiate between the phones. HTC one probably stomps in low light.
At first i thought the speaker sucked, admittedly not as loud and clear as the optimus g, its pretty good and loud, boomsound sounds epic, but its not loud, the optimus g is the loudest clearest speaker i have ever heard (just sayin) the lumia 620 has the loudest but its not very good
All the apps run better, even vs the google edition roms. Like Next browser, its silky smooth on the nexus 4 but jittery on the htc one :/
What can I say, I love this phone. And onscreen buttons are badass, makes the 4.7 inch display easier to use + feels faster then capacitive buttons

Calling the camera "really good" on the Nexus 4 really puts everything you say in question. The camera is the biggest failing of the Nexus 4.

I also thinks the camera is alright, I don't ask for crazy camera thou.
Its a Picture i look at a couplepr seconds and then Swype to the next. It's a phone

About the camera, the picture clarity is better than my friends s3 when I compared after zooming to Max
However I prefer his s3 image quality for more natural colours in it
If you are speaking about speaker loudness, try xperia live with Walkman
And about this post, if u post it in nexus 4 forums, most people who have used or are using nexus 4 will say that its okay
If u post it in HTC one forums, most of them will say you are crazy
Its your choice to choose!

Camera is fine.. It has more natural colors than Samsung s3 .
I'm so tired of hearing these crybabies complaining about a shtty camera.. Clearly you are not using it right!
I would say the s4 & One have a better camera . but they are newer & cost twice as much

My Nexus 4 takes very decent quality photos. I couldn't be happier.. Wayy better than my X2-01's photos!

I think you're overreacting a bit. I haven't noticed anybody "crying" here. It's been merely one critical post. Everybody is entitled to his/her own opinion. You don't like it, ignore it. After all that's a discussion board and not a st. nexus temple. People don't have to worship every single part of the phone to use it.
Anyway my opinion is IF you really want a smartphone with top notch camera don't buy nexus. When I bought nexus I expected to get much worse cam to be honest, and I was positively surprised. You can really take some good pics with our camera.
And no offence towards OP but what's the purpose of such threads. I guess we already have at least one comparative topic like that.

So i'm still excited about getting this phone today, and i'm really hoping this is just bias on the side of The Verge. I've already seen many sample pictures and they put my N4 to shame but to see this get a 5/10 and the N4 getting an 8/10 is just shocking.
They also say that the speaker is quiet and that there is only 1 speaker and the other one is fake. that seems really hard to believe.
so thoughts?

Was the nexus 4 review by the same person?
Could be the difference there but they do seem to be panning the camera quite a bit.
The other side is a microphone.
I don't get why they slate it for that as the iPhone is the same, one grill is the microphone and one is the speaker, granted the iPhone 5s loud speaker is very good IMO so it will be interesting to compare.

Looking at every phone i've own the mic is a single hole. Reading into this evidently the iPhone is exactly the same and it's just done for symmetry sake. well at least it helps my ocd with that but i was really under the impression it was dual speakers.

They actually have given some very good unbiased android reviews in the past, N4 and N7 for example. But maybe those weren't done by josh who can be very biast against android.

The guys at the verge are ignorant tools at best.
Fake speaker ... so I guess the iPhone which they always rave about has a fake speaker too
Last year they got an exclusive on the N4 and they gave it an 8/10 which it didn't deserve, and this year the little boys at the verge got no special treatment so they gave the better phone which 1) has LTE which was one of their N4 cons, and 2) no glass back which they broke on their N4 test unit, and 3) no muffled speaker when sitting on a flat surface, a lower score.
I honestly never visit the verge website anymore, its absolute trash. People thinking they are journalists writing about things they don't understand.

He's been using Android phones as his daily driver for a long while, going from a Galaxy Nexus to a Nexus 4 to a Moto X. The review was fair given the current state of the phone, they even went as far as checking with Google about software updates to improve the camera. Just because everyone here ordered one doesn't mean every review needs to validate that purchase. This is a great phone at the price point, and it brings all the benefits of a Nexus device - then again it's not perfect, but it doesn't need to be.

Thought you said they gave it a 5/10? Looks more like a 8/10? :laugh:
Still though, the verge do some rubbish reviews sometimes. The N5 review wasn't terrible though, not the best but not the worst.

This. Topolsky is one of the least biased Android reviewers on The Verge and I thought the review was perfectly fair. Don't know what the rest of the people are whining about

I got Nexus 5 today, played with it for sometime and here what I noticed I don't like about it.
I also have Galaxy S4 GE and used S3, S2 before. Never used Nexus phones before.
1. It doesn't come with headphones. oh cmon, how expensive can the cost be to not include them into a package ???
2. IPS display is a very big disappointment. The colors are washed out. Whites are too bright.
Galaxy S4 GE's display is much more better at color accuracy if I compare it to a professional IPS displays from NEC.
3. Screen size is actually smaller due to a presence of google buttons. Galaxy S4 has a bigger usefull surface, because it uses mechanical buttons.
Everything else is cool. KitKat 4.4 is awesome.

There fair enough, and as I say it's your prerogative, however if you honestly feel that a top end handset at near enough half the price of other top end handsets is a huge fail, I refer you to the aforementioned crack pipe.
Fair enough if you don't like it and won't recommend it, but come on... there's not being a fanboy, and there's making ridiculous statements.

Am I the only one that has not experienced any of the problems people are reporting? Sound is good, even at high volume, colors are not washed out. This phone works great for me. Coming from an s4, I like the nexus 5 a lot more.

Take 4.4 and Samsung OS tweaks out, what do you like about Nexus 5 over S4 specifically ?

Coming from s4 the n5 is much better in the hand feels more durable. Screen is washed out a bit but maybe its more accurate. My cons so far Is the speaker is very poor even for £339 and I think the battery don't last very long compared to my previous device s4. So if lg had fitted a better speaker and bigger battery I'd of give this phone 9/10 as every phone has an improvement to be made. But it is how it is so I'd give it a 7/10

Total noob to the Nexus line... owned MANY phones, and just came from iphone 5, then SG3, and this phone absolutely tunes them all. Best phone Ive ever owned, and a customer for life.

The SINGLE best thing about my N5, is that my screen doesn't come on after I receiver EVERY. SINGLE. SMS. It was quite possibly the most annoying and infuriating thing about my S3. drove me nuts from day one. such a useless feature and w the amount of SMS i receive, a total waste of battery.
So... coming from your LAST phone, what's the SINGLE feature you love most?

Comming from an Xperia Play, i love the Performance, nothing out-beats it!

Coming from the cdma Samsung galaxy nexus (Verizon).
I love the battery life and how smooth it runs compared to the gnex.

Coming from the nexus 4 I love how light the phone is and the soft touch in the back, so sexy

Coming from too many phones to list I like the N5 for its perfectly calibrated super sharp and super bright screen. Of course I like it for many other reasons as well but the display stands out and also stands above the rest

Coming from the Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) I LOVE the battery life of this phone. Amazing.

for me it was the ability to run a true AOSP rom which I couldnt do with my d2spr

not a"cheap" device
the nexus is ok but at $349 it's far from being a "cheap" device

Coming from a Galaxy S4 I love using Vanilla Android with Gravity Box. No bloated skin etc. Love the Nexus line. Definitely sticking with it.

Moto X has a nicer build quality but i was like NAH to its 720P Screen and its badder camera and its lacking of the newest flagship CPU/GPU

$349 for a top-of-the-line smartphone... sorry breh, that's DIRT CHEAP

How does this have anything to do with this thread? Cheap is a relative term, you're right the nexus really isn't a "cheap" device, its quite good quality. But in comparison to other similar devices it is a VERY low priced device.
My single favorite thing about the N5 specifically is probably the sheer speed and smoothness, its so gratifying to use the phone even for just basis tasks. Most of my other "favorites" about the N5 could probably be applied to the whole nexus line in general.

I would have to agree with Pizza_Dox, we both came from the Xperia PLAY forum. Of course the single best thing about the XP was the dedicated built-in game controller. The N5 is so freaking fast and smooth on everything I throw at it... so Performance... hands down.

Coming from the S4, I love the total lack of Touchwiz and all that Knox nonsense.

Coming from the xperia play as well I love the screen size/look if this phone. The xperia play was 4 inches and I have giant hands. It made the game pad awkward to use. The screen also was pretty low quality I think it was 480p. This one blows it away.
I know it's only one thing but I gotta say a second one. It's nice to have the newest android version. On the play I was constantly flashing Roms because of being stick on ginger bread
Also the thin size of this. Lol too many good things for me to pick just one

lots of things but if it has to be only one
SCREEN. marvelous. crystal clear and has far better colors to my eye.

Google has done a superb job IMO.

Came from n4 and probably the snapdragon 800 + bigger screen and better camera over the n4. Everything else is just a plus
