Magnets in cases - official response - Nexus 5 General

[EDIT: sorry guys, this was supposed to be in the nexus 5 section, i'm not sure how i got in the general discussion section]
Hi guys, i'm wondering if anyone here asked LG support if magnets affect the phone hardware.
I contacted LG UK and LG Romania and they had different responses.
LG UK said that magnets don't affect the phone while LG RO said that they do. This is confusing. I'll definitely contact LG US and LG CA next to see their opinion but in the meantime, did anyone else ask them about this?

No, the tiny magnets inside the case won't affect your phone in any way.

I almost returned a nexus 7 2013 because of a cheap flip case. Compass was malfunctioning with it on.

Yes, that's the only thing which might get screwed when a sizeable magnet is brought near the device. But it can't damage the phone AFAIK. :good:

LG USA
For the moment we have no heard if they do. But then again we don't make the cases so it would not be something we caused you know? Since we don't make the cases we do not know what they are made out of and we do not have a way to support them since they are not made by LG but by third party companies. I only have information to help out with the actual phone, but not the accessories.

Screen broke - what would you do

So my screen just broke and i'm in doubt between buying an aftermarket screen for about $20 and repairing it, or just say f*** this unstable piece of crap and buy the optimus 4x speed. So what would you do? Any suggestions for other phones? Any review on aftermarket screens? How easy is it to replace?
Thanks for your help and suggestions in advance,
Sincerely,
you're buying 4x? LOL you're buying a phone that doesn't have developers support, lock bootloader and no custom rom i visit 4x section sometimes but their development section is empty, i suggest send your o2x on lg to repair or search on youtube "how to disassemble optimus 2x"
Sent from my LG-P990 using xda premium
It depends on how addicted you are to flashing roms. If you don't mind stable roms, and probably a very very slow 4.1 update, get the 4x.
If you simply need updates and the newest OS, repair the 2x. Honestly though, I think it wouldn't go as far as the 4x in terms of eventual updates, but still, it's nice to be able to modify your phone.
Yes i didn't notice the lack of custom Roms on the 4x this afternoon, so what phone would you buy? I mean the price of the 4x is awesome for the hardware you get, and if i'm able to root it i'm happy. But i also like to flash custom roms alot so do any of you know a good alternative instead of the 4x for the same pricE? Locked bootloader is kinda sucky .
I would really like to repair my 2x but i'm so tired of it and afraid that if i do change the screen i'll wreck the entire thing, and i'm not sure i wanna take the risk or just buy a new phone
Nexus 4. Don't know if it's cheaper or costlier in your country, but it's generally much cheaper. Beats the 4x easily in all fields, the only thing it lacks is a memory card slot. Availability is an issue at the moment, but if you can get your screen repaired for cheap now, then you can sell it after some time and get a nexus
I had the same problem. Repair the touch screen is very complicated, not because it's difficult disassemble the phone, but because the real display is glued to the touch screen with a particular clue. When you try to remove the display you can break it. It happened to me.
Repair and sell !

A couple of weeks ago I dropped my P990 onto asphalt and broke the glass. I taped it up using scotch tape to avoid glass splinters in my ears, and I'm just about getting used to all the cracks by now. I won't be trying to repair it, so I've got a nexus 4 on preorder. Hopefully it'll arrive before the tape crumbles...
Tl;dr: buy a nexus 4
This is a great reason to go get galaxy s3
Nexus 4! Don't bother with the 4x
They don't sell Nexus 4 in my country, because of LG, so yeah that sucks
I could get a Galaxy Nexus for about the same price
+1 for nexus 4 (except if you are addicted in slow updates and lg ui so go for optimus G(same hardware but i think quite costier))

Yeah but is it Gorilal glass? They say it's OEM in most cases, but don't specify wich type of glass this is. Last time i bought a replacement screen was for my X10 wich also was supposedly OEM but when installed i found out it was some kind of cheap plastic wich would never work comfortably as a touch screen. And it looks too complicated i would have to buy a hobby knife 3 sets of tweezer and a hair dryer only to switch the screen on my phone

They don't sell Nexus 4 or Optimus G in my country :'(
I broke the screen on my HD2, ordered one online for 15-20e , found a guy that repairs them, got friendly making mobile phones conversation and he changed it for 20e, sold the hd2 for 200e(I now regret it though) I would sell the o2x if course, it's nice but not the hd2. I actually am selling it

Me too, my screen was broken. I repaired at a workshop with 30 euros. The changed screen was old, taken from another phone ...
I also broke my screen and I had it replaced at a workshop. After the repair, the light sensor was not working so I had to return it to the workshop and wait another 3 day before they finally fix it.
The repair process including the new(?) screen was around 80Euro (~105$).
Get a new phone, upgrade excuse.
I got it replaced in a little Phone repair shop, they did a good Job, it cost 140 euro, but we got it back from ensurance because it happend on a holiday

As some people already said, it's the perfect excuse for getting a Nexus 4. You'll have a lot more support than with the 4X considering it's an official Nexus phone.

I was wondering if this existed myself, do we know if there is a software implementation that makes any case a "smart cover" ? Or is that not possible?

That looks like you could flip it back and put it in the nexus dock, do you that's possible/know it's possible?
Stick a fridge magnet onto any kindle fire case with bluetac. It works very well.

Korean Quick window

Considering buying Euro G2 and heard that the Korean QW is superior to the international cover as it is slimmer. Does anyone know the visual differences between these covers so I can ensure correct purchase via ebay?
i don't really know about the visual difference between the Korean QW and Int. QW
what i do know is that the Korean QW may not work on the international model, D802
people in my country reporting that the Quick Window function on Send View Cover Flip Case they ordered straight from Korea doesn't work on their int. D802 model, probably due to incompatibility.. although the case itself fit just fine..

Wireless charging sticker available

I saw on Aliexpress two shops which offers the wireless charging sticker.
One shop is a pre order.
And the other is combined with the NFC chip. So you have to remove the original one. Which I don't like to do.
that great news...
Do you happen to know if the wireless charging is working with a case like otterbox on?
Sorry I don't know I haven't ordered them.
I think I am not allowed to place links.... So just search Aliexpress on "lg g4 wireless"
It's only a matter of time before options start at the market. This is just one.

Oh I don't know on that as I would never buy a model with NFC. I would only buy a wireless charge only.
These phones are barely just released and not even in the USA.
In the coming weeks or month, there will be more than 1 QI sticker to select from was my point.
Just ordered it.... So we will see.

Very cool... I look forward to reading what you say. So you did the preorder QI sticker only, or you did the Qi+NFC sticker?
I found this one on aliexpress but I wont have a G4 for a week or two so i don't know if its compatible with the US one, I know the G3 had 2 (well 3 if you count AT&T) different pin outs i'm not sure if the G4 is the same
Good finds... people need to keep posting them when they find them. I have an alert setup on ebay to email me if something comes up so I fully expect to see them on ebay soon as well.
I ordered this one. Wireless Charging Receiver NFC IC Chip for LG G4 Battery Housing Back Cover Case-T01

Depends on the thickness. In theory, the more obstruction the worse the charging is going to be until it just doesn't work. A strong charger should work with the case, based off previous phones.
Hasn't anyone tried ripping out the QI/NFC sticker from a Quick Circle case and putting in a standard G4 back? Expensive option i know but at least it's an oem sticker.

Bad news, the magnets in the QI charger for the Nexus 5 and 7 seem to make the LG G4 think that the quick circle is closed, so you cannot interact with the phone.
Even more bad news is that I couldn't get my quickcircle case to charge, either something is faulty or LG need to enable it with a software update.
They are two versions of the quickcircle by the looks of it, CFR-100 and CFV-100. It looks like CFR may be Korea only and will not work with the H815. You can see product listings like in post 11 state compatibility with the F500 but not H815.

did you purchase one of the stickers from aliexpress? the listings seem to indicate compatibility with both F500 and H815. im confused by your post, i was under the impression no official wireless accessories have been made for the G4 yet but it sounds like you have a case?
I bought a quickcircle case of eBay, seems to be the official case.
In the UK the quickcircle case can be purchased off eBay and many official outlets now.
The pins on the back cover matchup with the phone so I'm not sure what's going on, I'm still waiting on a reply from the seller.
Just ordered 2 of these. Hope they fit tmo usa! 94 available! Hurry before their gone! lol Somebody here will probably buy all of them.

Only problem is I need something to cover antenna socket.

Ok. I tried a watch shop and they said it will be hard as it uses screws to secure.

I have the same issue -- over the weekend I caught my watch and it was ripped from my arm. A small piece of plastic in the strap, where the screw goes in, broke. I have a T5, so I was able to undo the screws but with this piece of plastic broken I can't resecure the strap to the watch. So I now need to replace it. I'm in Ireland.
