[Q] What to backup before flashing new ROM? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed my initial custom ROM when I first bought my HTC One. I'm on the 4.4.2 Android Rev. GPe ROM. I want to try a different ROM now that perhaps might be a better fit for me.
However, I'm already all, "set up" with my phone now with pictures, music, apps etc. I don't want to lose all this if I do a factory reset. What should I make sure to backup before wiping and flashing to make sure I don't lose any of my personal media/data?
I have already made a TWRP Backup, a Titanium backup of all user apps, and copied the TWP/Titanium Back folders as well as the DCIM and Music Folders to my local hard drive. Is there anything else I am missing should I want to switch back?

You wont lose any pics/music/videos if u wipe. Your apps will go. But Titanium is there for that. Just make sure THAT YOU DON'T WIPE INTERNAL STORAGE

To confirm that I don't accidentally wipe my internal storage like an idiot, when I select "Wipe" in TWRP, I choose "Factory Reset", (both caches obviously), and "Wipe Data"?

1- You should do a nandroid backup.
2- Yes, wipe: Cache, Dalvik, Data (excluding /data/media aka internal storage) for a clean flash;
for a dirty-flash, you only wipe, cache and dalvik (though most installer scripts take care of that anyways).

Removing "wipe data/factory reset" from Full Update Guide

I, as many other people do not update to CyanogenMod because the need to do a "wipe data/factory reset". I have lots of applications installed that have stored information and I cannot lose the data.
Could you make everything possible to prevent having to do a "wipe data/factory reset" or at least conserve all the information at the end of the upgrade? Lots of people cannot afford losing any data.
Backup For Root Users from Market.....
or AppManager
or My Backup Pro
Also, it is required to wipe data/factory reset because of the new way to backup Google's Proprietary apps and restore them, in order to keep legal.

What are the differences between them?
What should I be using to fully backup and restore as easy as possible?
Just wipe and reinstall everything, you'll thank me later for telling you to do so!
But if you want to chicken out, use backup for root users app. It will back up everything and then some. Great app.

The best option I have found is to use the Superwipe Script. It does a full wipe and optimizes your system for a ROM flash. It does not touch your internal SD card.

Wipe
This section is dedicated to wiping all standard partitions on your Android device. By default, TWRP offers you to perform a full factory reset upon hitting Wipe, since it’s the most common form of wipe operation that most users need in recovery. This will wipe all your user data from the phone, including your installed apps, cache, and dalvik cache. This will not effect the internal or SD card storage area of your phone, meaning your documents, downloads, pictures, music, videos and other files will stay safe.
If you would rather want to wipe EVERYTHING including the aforementioned data, tap ‘Format Data’. This will wipe all your apps, backups, downloads, pictures, videos and media, and will also remove encryption on your internal storage, if you have applied it, essentially leaving nothing but the operating system itself on the device, in a complete factory state.
If you want to be more specific about the partitions you want to wipe, hit ‘Advanced Wipe’ instead. You can then select one or more common partitions to wipe specifically, leaving the rest untouched. The partitions available for wiping include system (where your operating system is stored), data, cache, Dalvik cache, and usb-otg in case of our Nexus 4, but may (or may not) include other partitions as well. Just remember – if you are unsure of whether to wipe a partition or not, NEVER touch it, especially if it’s the system partition. If you are following instructions provided somewhere, wipe only the partitions that the instructions clearly specify to wipe, and leave the rest untouched. Otherwise, you might be stuck with a device with no operating system installed, or lose all your data stored on the device.

[Q] Custom ROM upgrade problem :(

Hi guys I'm new to this forum but i've been a CD-ROM for years...
I have question about upgrading ViperROM to 6.2.1
I'm currently using ViperROM 2.7.0 with sense 5.0
Android 4.2.2
I use Titinium Pro to backup all my apps and....
my question is....how to upgrade from 2.7 to 6.2.1 the easiest way?
without any data lost?
do i have to use the data backup from ROM or i can just use the titaniumPRO for full backup?
please advice
I always copy and paste the contents of the sdcard to a folder for safe keeping on my laptop or usb drive. I wipe, data, cache, dalvik cache, system and user partitions. Reboot recovery, use adb sideload to send the rom.zip over and flash. Setup the phone and copy and paste everything back. The whole process takes min. 25-30 minutes. Works for me /shrugs, just my 2 pennies.
I would follow @DeathAngel66669 advice it is very solid. I also use Titanium Pro to quickly add back my USER APPS only with data. Never restore system apps.

I'm just concerning about my User App data, (whatsapp image, convo history)
so i can just do titanium pro and wipe the phone? cool!
Whatsapp etc backs up it's own data to a folder in your internal storage, when you reinstall it and set it up it will say backup found would you like to restore. Just make sure you don't wipe internal storage.
You could also try and dirty flash as you are on viper one already, just go into advanced wipe and wipe your caches only, do not factory reset and when installing the Rom also select don't wipe data partition.
But again as the others have said, make sure it's backed up first, if a dirty flash doesn't work, you'll be left with no choice but to reflash and wipe along the way.

Backing up data in SS?

Does backing up data in SS and restoring it after flashing a new ROM will 100 percent restore all of my data? What are the things that I need to backup separately? Sms, contacts, account,..etc?

If your're using B03, the latest safestrap, then everything except the "data/media" folder is backed up, which is your internal storage. As long as you only "Swipe factory Reset" and just flash a ROM, and do not "Format" or "Wipe" data, then your storage will not be wiped, and will always be there. Backing up "Data" will backup everything else including your Settings, SMS, and Contacts, so a full restore from that backup (Restoring System, Cache, Data) should bring your phone back to the exact state where it was in before you did the backup.
If you're using B01, the first safestrap, then everything else is the same, except "data/media" is also backed up, which can make the backup much larger.
