Please forgive the baby questions from an Android Newbie.
I used the phone to check for software updates, one was available - I believe from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2, I selected install the update, and now I just get a flashing android symbol.
I have tried to connect to Kies to do a recovery, but I cannot connect, afater a long "trying to connect" I am getting the message "device unresponsive please reboot", I have updated to the latest version of Kies, tried different cables and different ports.
I can reboot the phone into download mode but do not see any of the other options that are supposed to be available. Kies does not connect in either download or flashing Android symbol mode
Suggestions as to where I go from here are welcome.

Do a factory reset from recovery. Press vol up+home+power button
You're still safe if you still can see download mode.
If resetting doesn't help then download firmware from sammobile or from here http://www.officialrom.com/samsung/GT-N7000/ and flash through odin

No, I only get the "PHONE ----"TIANGLE-----"COMPUTER" logo at start up.
I tried all sorts of button combinations to boot up in download mode, but nothing seems to work.
Thanks for your reply though

Your phone is bricked I'm afraid
to begin with you needed Odin 3 or Odin 4
Odin 1.x is not compatible with Galaxy S
if you can enter download mode via the 3 button, you can easily reflash again
if you can't get the 3 buttons to work, send it back to the place where you purchased the phone to have it serviced or warranted
Hi
I tried to root my Galaxy note using the Odin method, and now i'm getting nothing but a screen that says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I would happily follow those directions, but now Kies won't recognize my device?!?!? I also can not get back into download mode. I have no idea what to do. Is there anyone out there that can help? please?

Iam all stressed out....
I tried to update to the latest firmware Icecream..... with odin method... it starts than it stops at hidden.img .......................over and over again..

First make sure your phone is charged, before trying to get it into download mode again, if you can't you need a usb jig.
It was fully charged befor I started the update
Charge device for 1 hour.. Then pull out battery . wait for few seconds. again put battery in. Then Hold Volume down + home + Power for 10 secs. it should enter download mode.
If it doesn't work, Pull out the battery. hold volume up button put battery in holding volume up button, connect data cable to PC and Device, now it should get in to download mode.
if you able to get in to Download mode first flash Stock GB ROM using PC Odin.
" Read all instruction carefully before flashing your device "

Hello abdurm, could you tell us your current firmware? You would require to give us details from Settings > About phone.
Also, did you try flashing anything? If so, what was it?
By pressing the Volume Down button + Home button + Power button simultaneously, does your device enter Download mode?

It dosen give me enough time to check firmware version, it reboots. It is on ICS. It is stock and I have not tried fashing or anything.
Yes it goes in download mode by pressing Volume Down button + Home button + Power button simultaneously.
Flash gingerbread rom in PC ODIN only and it will automatically reboot by itself but if still stuck in samsung logo go to recovery mode and wipe data and cache.

Thank you very much. Just one last thing I dont have to be rooted to instal this ROM and it is ok to flash directly from ICS . Just downloadFilename: SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.zip and flash it. And it will leave me with GB?

Apologies abdurm, I foolishly presumed you would have made a note of your device's firmware details at some point in the past. It was stupid of me to ask you for the said information.

1] Download the pre-rooted stock Gingerbread firmware, SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.zip and extract it to get the SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.tar file.
2] After doing so, run PC ODIN, select the PDA tab in it and point to the extracted file (SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.tar). Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time will be selected by default. Do not select anything else.
3] Put your device in Download Mode and then connect it to your PC via the USB cable. The ID:COM label in PC ODIN will turn yellow indicating your device is connected and recognised.
4] Click on the Start button in PC ODIN and wait for the label above ID:COM to say Pass. After it does so, disconnect your device from your PC.
Your device will reboot and you will be on a stock Gingerbread firmware with root privilege.

Hello again abdurm, I am glad to learn your device is up and running again. :highfive:
Now that you are on a rooted firmware, I would advice you not to avail an OTA update as there is a very high likelihood of it breaking/undoing the root privilege.
Personally, I have not ventured into Ice Cream Sandwich yet and thus I have no right to guide you with the process of acquiring it. But, based on your quoted post may I ask you if you desire to have stock Ice Cream Sandwich with or without root privilege?
I recommend you thoroughly read dr.ketan's threads which explain the subject at hand.
Hello everyone,
I've been using this community for a while, but this is my first post. One or two months ago I successfully rooted my Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 and installed Imaginary ICS Final along with CWM Recovery 5.0.2.6. Everything worked fine but today I decided to update to a 4.4 custom rom. I installed CM 11 from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2659269, but after selecting my language a popup apeared which said "The setup aplication has stopped working", so I looked for another ROM. I found this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2684893, but it required TWRP Recovery to be installed. I downloaded it, copied it to my SD and tried to install it form CWM 5.0.2.6.
Now, my phone goes into a blue screen whether I try to boot normally or into the recovery menu and I don't now how to solve it. Since I can boot into download mode, I've tried using Odin, but it doesn't recognize my phone. Can anyone help me, please? Thanks a lot in advance.
PS: I'm using Windows 8.1 x64.
EDIT: Now Odin recognizes it, but it gets stuck in "<1> setup connection...".
EDIT 2: I've solved it flashing through Odin with a PC running a clean installation of Windows 7.

You usually get the "setup connection" error when you are in the Emergency Download Mode instead of Download Mode. You go to Emergency Download Mode by holding down Volume Up + Volume Down + Home Button + Power Button in which it loads a screen that says "Emergency Download Mode" and you go to Download mode by holding down Volume Down + Home Button + Power Button in which it does load the correct download screen with the yellowish message that say "Downloading…". Please make sure you are going to the Download Mode. Then try to flash again. Do post the result. Hope I Helped
Phone should detect in odin if you've Installed proper drivers for your phone.
Try this guide,

You're right, I was entering Emergency Download Mode (the one which says ARM9 mode). However, if I enter the normal download mode and plug my phone, Odin doesn't recognize it and Windows shows a message in the traybar which says "Can't recognize USB device".

try updating ur drivers online first, go to the download mode by pressing the vol up, down and the power button simultaneously, and then odin vud recognise it..
when u have successfully installed the stock rom from Odin, go to recoverymode, then to clockworkmod, remove cahe and dalvik data and then install the rom that u want.
This shud do as it worked for me..

Bro, this question is solved. See "Edit 2" in the question where the author has specified what he did to solve this problem.
hi everyone,
I was runnning a cm11 nightly rom but after and update from cyamogen i lost baseband and imei. i looked up some methods to fix the problem so i tried to go through the steps and downloaded the stock rom and tried to flash it using LGflash Tool and Software update Kdz but both options failed. I also tried the lg flash tool 2014 version, which got the farthest, but also failed. The just gets stuck on READY and the KDZ method gets stuck on line 207. The 2014 version of the flash tool strarts the upgrade but then a message comes up saying "there is not enough memory in the phone".
The problem is that now the phone is stuck in software upgrade mode and it doesn't even go into recovery mode ( i had CWM installed).
what should i do?
SOme help would be greatly appreciated,
thanks.
Just try to press and hold [vol -] and [power] until you got the android recovery figure and wait until they reboot again. If is again something wrong then try again to flash KDZ...

if i keep the vol - and power pressed nothing happens, it just stays in s/w upgrade mode. I've tried kdz and flash tools many times but still stuck on the same screen.
