I have a US AT&T Note 3, I have followed this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856632), however on the AT&T Note 3 there's not FotaUpdate.apk. Is there another name for that file on an AT&T phone? I heard AT&T will come out with the KitKat update soon, I do not want to be automatically updated when that happens. Please help. Thanks.
It's called att software update

You have to root and then use either Titanium to freeze AT&T software update, or all in one toolbox to delete AT&T software update.

Get the paid version of Titanium Backup. Scroll down to it..press it then click freeze at top of page

Titanium Pro is the best way to go, and just freeze the apps, instead of uninstalling them. It makes it WAY easier when you want to OTA again. If I'm not mistaken, the OTA install looks for the "bloat" AT&T installs.

Don't remove att files just freeze them.

Can you freeze ATT address book?
Yup. I did. And since your only freezing you could always unfreeze if something doesn't work right.

Do NOT REMOVE...you won't be able to get OTA updates that way. Just freeze them

I have a Sprint Moto X that was rooted with PwnMyMoto.
I have been getting notified of an OTA update, but don't want to accept it in case I would lose root.
Is there a way to disable the update notifications?
Does anybody know how to keep root after the OTA?

There are a couple threads on how to keep root after an ota.
But that being said I am also looking to remove the update apk.
Does anyone know which one it is?
3c_ota.apk?

Does motorola connect still work when these are stopped? I mainly ask because with droidwall MotoOTA is grouped in with the MotoConnect services. I'm thinking I want to use MotoConnect but I don't really care for or want updates.

You can update while rooted but not with a custom recovery installed. We are able to update while rooted because we don't have a bootloader bypass and custom recovery.

How do you disable the automatic update? I stopped the update. Deleted the .apk using Root Explorer but I still get the notification that it's downloading the update. Perhaps I deleted the wrong .apk??? In any case, I stopped the update but now there's the stupid notification that the update's pending.
I'm not rooted at all and got that same update today. I went through the whole shabang, it restarted and said updated after the whole android is updating deal. Something weird happened after updating when I connected to Kies 3 for the first time ever. Its says "Your device is not supported to update firmware via kies" Current firmware version : PDA: MJ5 / PHONE : MJ5 / CSC : MJ5 (ATT)
Anyone else come across this?? Like I said I'm not rooted and completely stock
D'oh!!! I never froze or deleted anything to stop the update. I didn't care if I got notification or not. I just had the icon this morning and prompts to update. BUT WTH?!?! It forced updated on me. what's up with that?! It normally prompt me to update or postpone, but this time it says restart to update. The only thing to do was hit continue and that's it. I couldn't stop it or cancel it.
So WARNING, if you wanna keep your root, disable the updates.

"Titanium Backup". You have a lot of reading to do in the general threads. Depending on your firmware version will determine your available root methods. There's Kingo Root,Evilpotatoman's method etc.Read through the threads and then read again to make sure you grasp the methods.

The most effective way to remove bloat would be to root it, install titanium backup, and either uninstall or freeze applications.

T-Mobile doesn't lock their bootloader. Is there some reason to believe that will change with Android 5.0? It certainly will undo root.

It's been so mush fun hex editing, s-off and all that stuff. and if it will continue after the update. from what I've read they are changing the way the kernel boots up.

there might not be any other way; after all, 5.0 encrypts your entire phone, so one could assume the bootloader has to be locked for that to happen..
we'll see in a few weeks, most likely

In past TMO Samsung phones, custom recovery changed the Current Binary setting from Samsung Official to Custom. That alone disabled OTA updates. I suspect it's the same on the N4.Perhaps someone who rooted prior to the NJ7 update can confirm.

Just be sure to read the posts about s-health and private mode. If you can, don't use s-health until after you root and if you plan on using it, disable secure storage in wanam. Otherwise you're going to get some annoying lag.
Also if you're going to flash a custom ROM and want to use the fingerprint scanner, make sure you use the scanner on the stock ROM first. Folks are having issues on custom ROMs if they've never used the scanner beforehand.
