Hi
I'm trying to install Kitkat 4.4 with Maclaws cm11. Also tried the carbon rom. All seems to work fine until I flash G apps. Then I get random reboots shortly after boot. Tried both micro and aroma Gapps from Mclaw. Am I alone with this problem? Any suggestions?
I'm using CWM for flashing and wrong cache etc. Baseband I8190XXANA2 in stock 4.1.2 (rooted) which works fine.
After more research it seems like reboots happens also without Gapps. Also happening in 4.3. There was recently a firmware update early this week. Maybe something has changed, breaking custom ROMs.

Bud,
If you're on stock just do that:
1-Reboot in recovery
2-Choose Wipe data/factory reset
3-Flash cm rom
4-Flash gapps
5-Reboot
Done, that's it. Not complicate.
If you want to update cm roms:
1-Reboot in recovery
2-Flash cm update
3-Choose Wipe cache & dalvik cache
4-Reboot
Done.
You don't need to mess up with anything more. Read my FAQ here for gapps & for more doubts. Have fun
thanks...

Thanks for the advice. I've read the faq's and followed that, but the problem is that my phone just reboots randomly a minute or so after it's booted up. Was suspecting this to be the latest firmware update, but if so the forum would probably been flooded with more with the same problem.
It might be my battery, which is bad. Just got a new one. Charging it now, and will try CM11 again tomorrow. If it still reboots I'll see if I'm able to access the logs to get an idea of whats going on. It works fine on stock, so I'm a bit puzzled... .
Solved
...and after changing battery CM11 runs smooth without reboots .
The reboots happened with the original charger plugged in. Why that didn't happen to the stock ROM I can't explain.
The original Samsung battery scares me a bit. It has become 1-2 mm thicker. Looks like an accident waiting to happen. Have to dispose of safely somehow...quick...

Received this phone a month ago, just got around to rooting it yesterday. Root with motochopper went fine. Unlocked the handset with motopocalypse, everything went fine. Installed latest CM10.2 nightly and everything ran fine, even restarted phone and it worked fine. I then realized I forgot to install Gapps, So i went to CWM and installed the Gapps through "install zip from sd card". Now phone will not progress past the bootloader unlocked warning screen. I can restart and put phone into recovery or fastboot no problem but I don't know where to go from here. I tried a factory reset and reinstallation of CM but to no success. I am a bit of a newb when it comes to external programs like RSD Lite and haven't used it. Is there something obvious I'm missing in my progress of trying to fix my phone?
clear cache and dalvik cache under advanced then restart.
if you still loop do the above steps plus data reinstall cm10.2.
if you still loop do all above steps but also format system under mounts be re-install.
if you loop after all that then try a different ROM.
PS what version of gapps did you use.

i can't post outside links yet but on the wiki.cyanogen site in the Gapps section I used the 10.2 20130813 1f51b5cc6370c1f45dc951109b6ce6ed release. I will attempt those steps once i can find a legitimate charger in my house. Phone doesn't accept power unless its on and i need just a bit of juice to boot it up

Here's the official name. Installed cm-10.2-2-130814-NIGHTLY-mb886.zip for the cm and gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip for the GApps, both latest versions I believe

none of the above steps worked unfortunately. Is there a set order of certain things to be mounted and unmounted in the mount section? Such as the system or sd card?

did you flash gapps before flashing the ROM because the ROM flash will overwrite the gapps.
PS I suggest using zgapps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240652 because they are stripped down which tends to prevent a lot of issues and if you want a 4.3 ROM try skeevydudes PAC ROM it is more stable plus has more features.

Awesome. Pac-Rom already looks better on review. I get to the dl page tho and have a monster list of choices. Which one do I go for?

Thank you for all the help. PACROM is up and running swimmingly, all of the features are there and it is definitely better than CM by itself. Thanks again
One or two weeks ago I flashed PAC 4.3 (coming from 4.3 leak) and it worked without a single error. Then after I rebooted my phone it just get's stuck on the bootanimation and I have to take out the battery, get into CWM, wipe dalvik-cache and cache and then it would work, although that means that my phone generates the dalvik cache at each boot, which consumes a lot of battery and last about 3 minutes, which is really annoying. I thought it's a problem with PAC so I flashed the latest CM11 nightly and get the same thing . I'm quite experienced with flashing custom ROMs and Kernels, so please don't go full noob explanation on me .
Thanks in advance :good:
Update: After wiping data the phone reboots normally. Could it be an app causing it?

usually if phone stuck at boot animation, the main problem mostly cause by app data/cache, i my self encounter many same situation with other phone, samsung, htc, and after wiping cache and data, the problem gone..also, i notice if flash from stock to custom, or custom that based on stock then go to AOSP custom without wiping data, then most time phone will stuck at boot animation..but rarely i encounter stuck after wiping data (some folder wrongly placed in the zip file that cause the problem)
Was flashing my friends i9305 and now it wont boot any rom I flash... always gets stuck on the first boot screen until I take out battery.
I flashed CWM 6.0.4.7 using odin.
I have tried flashing several roms (CM 11, CM 10.1, PACman 4.3)... Each one will flash with no errors, then when I reboot after correct GAPPS it just gets stuck on the loading screen forever and won't boot up into ROM.
Wipe data/cache, wipe dalvik, wipe system > Install rom from zip, install GAPPS from zip > reboot (even here I wipe system/data/cache - still doesnt work).
Any ideas on why it won't load up the roms....

Well I figured it out... since it was never flashed or anything before (from stock rom)... I just went into the Mounts and Storage menu, and formated /cache /system /data manually and it finally worked.
Hope that helps
ROM's based on original firmware and CM 11 work fine. Doom/Zombie/etc kernels work fine.
But SlimKAT, any official 4.1 or 4.2, Vanir or any other ROM causes hot reboot when opening camera for second time.
First time everything is OK, I can use e.g. PAC ROM for several days, but if I close the camera and open it again (without rebooting) it causes hot reboot. Always.
But CM11 is rock stable so is any original 4.3 and higher.
Any help with that?
Thanx!
slimKAT weekly 5.6's camera works without any problems .bro.

Have you done a fresh installation ?
In CWM perform wipe data/factory reset and in mounts and storage section format system.
In TWRP choose advanced in wipe section and wipe dalvik cache, cache, system and data.
or please check your gapps which may cause the problem.
always use the gapps from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942

Yes, always fresh.
Point is, even flashed TFT ver 4.1 and 4.2 have same issues. Only 4.3 and 4.4 work OK :-/
Those are the GAPPS I always use ... Don't know. I'll try replacing camera libraries with version that work and see how that goes ...
I just updated my bootloader and whenever i try to flash a rom, the booting process takes forever until i wipe my phone myself. But when i flash Andro X rom than it takes max. 3min to boot and then it works.
But i want another rom, how do i fix this?
Do you mean that when u flash lollipop based rom it gets bootloop? if yes then first flash stock lollipop firmware and then try flashing other rom. I mostly wipe my internal storage when going from Kitkat to lollipop it works for me.
Well Firstly Explain your problem clearly (I didnt quite understand it)
OK so here's my solution from what I understood..
1. Restore your stock rom Backup from recovery. Boot it once.
2. Now clean flash (Wipe System, Data , Cache, Dalvik cache) a lollipop based Rom (preferably try to clean flash cm 12.1 build)
3. Dont flash Gapps. First see if your phone boots up properly.
4. Configure data and reboot to recovery and flash Gapps.
If you dont have a Stock backup, Then download Stock Firmware images from gregor's thread and install via fastboot. Then follow from step2.
Hope this helps you.

My problem is that when i try to flash roms like CM12, Blisspop it doesn't stop booting, it was taking more than an hour so i shutdown my phone and when i flashed Andro X the booting took around 3mins.
So can anyone explain in easy steps how to fix this?
OK now I understand what your problem is. Give me your full specs (like which Model and and stuff). But if you follow what I said above it might fix your problem.

are you fully wiping cache and userdata (factory reset) because this is most common problem moving between Roms that causes bootloops and why I include factory reset in my easy installer.
you can only dirty flash when going up (upgrading) the same rom - changing roms or downgrading nearly always causes bootloop / hang.
