[Q] Stock Recovery for Moto X - Moto X Q&A

Hi All,
I'm trying to apply the 4.4.2 OTA, but I had installed TWRP before. I can't find a working link to the stock recovery. Does anyone have it?
Thanks!

Extract it from the firmware from here: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=0

How would I go about extracting it?

Google does not produce any useful results for me. I know I can flash the entire image, but I just want the recovery. I'm also asking directly because I'd rather not download an entire firmware image for a megabyte file.

I'll PM you a link.

I would just fxz keep data then update. The fxz will give you stock recovery back.

That's an interesting suggestion. I just put the stock recovery back, but the update failed, likely due to a change I made. Can you explain a bit more what you mean? My goal is to not lose my data and be able to apply the 4.4.2 update. (I have a Verizon Moto X DE)

[Q] SBF recovery = "passed" but bootloops [URGENT]

For unknown reasons, the SBF recovery in RSD lite 5.5 comes up with a "pass" result when the SBF itself actually fails. It runs like it worked, but on the final reboot, I get an endless bootloop.
Backstory:
I made a rom, flashed it, bootloop, go to SBF, SBF passes but bootloops.
*ps i've tried it 4 additional times and each time still bootloops even though it says "pass"
I've done this at least 4 times in the past 3 days trying to get my rom to flash. What the FUUUUUUUUUU*K is it doing this for now?

Is better to open the mouth having something useful to say, and not to spread urban legends.
(for the record I have the chinese rom installed on my phone, which is a verizon phone.)
Is a way better rom in many areas, but my purpose was not to suggest a different rom, but to solve a problem, with a safe solution, as I'm used to do in the last 30 years.

Attention read before flashing official ota!!

keep in mind before anyone updates to the official jb. i suspect the official release will be patched to not allow us to return to ics. if you keep root after the update good but if you some how break root there might no be a way to get it back as of now! so be cautious before you accept update. we should at least wait for an official jb fxz if you plan on keepng root this way if you mess something up at least you will have a working phone back without root of course. again i dont know they will patch the official release to prevent downgrade but lets find out for sure to be on the safe side. i dont think were gonna get dan to make us a jb root method right away soon.....
It could be considering its small size. Those who have updated to JB OTA should install safestrap and make a backup.

That's not the official one... A leak update for a leak update is not the official OTA. The official package (if for some reason it is 98.4.20) will be the size of at least the 2 leak update.zips together. It is not a 10 MB change from ICS to JB. It's a 10 MB change from JB leak to JB leak.

Hello friends!
I've got AT&T Atrix HD with JB leak installed, with uncomplete root (root is present but any app cannot access root!), and yesterday I've received software update (98.4.20.en.US).
Tell me please - can I flash back to ICS, or somehow in another way gain root access??

I can confirm that this OTA does block you from going back too ICS. Lucky for me, I have backups, and i kept root, so I can go back by restoring one of my backups. But I think this leak OTA is pretty good, so I'm not to upset.

Unfortunately, I do not have any ICS backups for my phone, I must have named a JB backup as and ICS thats all I can think of...anyway, I too and hoping someone can upload an ICS backup somewhere so I too have the ability to go back to ICS if need be. Sorry for the false hope!

Just to clarify for Pete.
We don't want your information stored on your phone.
1) Restore back to ICS using the "restore function" in SS3/TWRP
2) Do a Factory Data Reset in settings.... privacy..... Factory Data Reset (this will wipe all personal info from the phone).
3) After you've done a Factory Data Reset, do a backup in SS3/TWRP.
4) Zip up the folder that has the backup you just performed, and upload it to a file server somewhere.
5) Post the link in this thread.

[Q] Root for VS980 on KitKat 4.4.2?

Is there a method to root the Verizon LG G2 (VS980) on the stock OTA Kit Kat 4.4.2 build yet?
I bought the phone used, already had the OTA on it...now I just need root.
Not interested in Rom'ing, just need tethering without the $30/month charge for the few times I use it and need root to do it.
Thanks!

I'm considering a G2 also and have been wondering the same. From what I gathered you would have to go back to 4.2.2 first, gain root, and then flash back to 4.4.2. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

As far as that goes, how is installing the LG G2 unified drivers supposed to go? I found the download link for them in the main 200 page thread for this. Extracted the zip, but none of the .exe files do anything when run. Is that normal or is something wrong? For example I tried running InstallUSB64.exe but absolutely nothing happens.
Another more recent post on like page 185 of the thread had another download link, but that just leads to a file called "LG" with no extension and it doesn't appear to be a .zip

No you will need to root and then install custom recovery. Depending on what you are on. If you are on kitkat you can use autorec, and anything earlier you can use flashify.

I am not sure about the question but I know when you root this phone there is a trip where it will show in the lg menu that it is rooted. In order to get rid of that you will have to return to stock. Tell you though I have had this phone for a few months now and I am glad i finally decided to root and put custom recovery on. Its my phone and set up the way I want with root and all.

I'm having a hell of a time trying to get this thing to root. I followed all of the instructions for installing the LG device drivers and when I go to run the IOroot25 it flashes really quickly and then goes away. USB debugging is enabled and I have tried it in ethernet mode and charging mode. Both produce the same result. Do I need to remove any other drives I might have on my computer in order to get it to work? Any other ideas?

Once it boots into recovery, did you scroll down and select "install from adb"?

Im having problems rooting it as well. I installed the latest drivers 1.14 I believe, and when trying to root it using ioroot25 it says downgrade to a previous version.
I do have it on Ethernet mode, and it reboots it into recovery, but that's it. I select apply update from adb but again, on ioroot it does nothing after the suggestion to downgrade.
any suggestions?
Make sure your phone is setup. Debugging mode is set. Unknown sources is set. Phone is on airplane mode. Plug into computer and start ioroot25 and follow steps

Guys just use towelroot to root. You install an app and push a button.

that' s not the reason, it' s because the ota checks your compleet system to see if the ota is compatible, if signatures don' t match the ota won't apply

People may get irritate with me by repeating same question, but im doing for good.
Because people those are installing update they have no info officially, I just want to care, suppose if my device got problem in hardware after 2 months I go to service center and they say sorry your device is imported or software wise modified. So that's why.

select recovery, in recovery push and release vol up + power, and use adb sideload update.zip to sideload it or rename the update.zip to update.zip and save it to the root of the sdcard and chose to apply update from sdcard
