[q] aosp ge rom - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the Galaxy S4 Active I537 Rooted w/safestrap. I followed all of the instructions when I installed the AOSP GE ROM but for some reason sometimes it reboots on it's own. Anyone know what the issue is?

I think that the issue may be the fact that the GE ROM has a 4.4.2 based kernel and according to this post: "[GUIDE][ROMS] List of ROMs for I537 using SafeStrap" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2491762) these are the steps for flashing a ROM. The first one mentions kernel compatibility.
Steps for flashing a ROM
1. Download a ROM file (must be 4.2.2 based with stock kernel)
2. Create ROM slot in SafeStrap
3. Flash the ROM and three update.zips: keys fix, camera patch, and modules fix (MF1, MF2, or MF3 depending on your stock firmware).
4. Wipe cache and dalvik.
5. Boot system
6. Report on how it works if you have problems and share any success.

Does anyone know if Samsung is planing on releasing 4.4.2 for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active i9295 i can't seem to find any news regarding update for this this one.
Also, does anyone know if there is a stable custom ROM for i9295 ? i tried carbon but the camera didn't work, so i returned to rooted stock ROM 4.2.2
It would be good if anyone could share a stable custom ROM for Samsung Galaxy S4 Active i9295 with the camera and most features as possible working (doesn't matter if it's 4.3 or 4.4.
Thanks all
From what I know from Samsung they still working on 4.4.2 for I9295. We have to wait.
There's some drivers problems with camera that's why it doesn't work as on stock Rom. That's problems of every Custom Rom that I saw.

Thanks ewa12321 I guess we will have to keep on waiting. If anyone hears anything about releasing date for 4.4.2 for s4 active i9295 please spread the word.

Hey guys, the update is out for the i9295 officially! Unfortunately, you can only get it in the Netherlands right now, and will probably be out around the world in a couple of weeks. If you are impatient like me, you can try flashing the update yourself and relieve that suffering! I can't post the link where I got my update as I am a nub and Mr xda does not want spamming, but a simple Google search can get you to the tutorial on flashing this update using Odin. Also, I am not sure if this will void the warranty as it is the official update but it is being manually flashed. This update should work on any i9295 factory unlocked version.
good luck!
S4 Active i9295 on stock 4.4.2

Hello,
In order to root your 4.4.2 OTA Update, I would recommend reflashing it clean using Odin.
Then download CWM 6.0.4.8 with Swipe by mythi and flash it using Odin. Then download SuperSU v1.99 from chainfire's website or the dev forums and flash the zip file using CWM. Now reboot your device and you are fully rooted.
When you first open SuperSU on your device it will ask you if you want to disable KNOX, just hit Yes.
Good day!

Has anyone done this and does it work... After that can i flash stock jb rom with odin.
And are the instructions for s4 active international ( nordic ) version.
Yes I have done it.
I also have the NEE (Nordic) S4 Active, I tried both with the Stock 4.4.2 NEE from Samfirmware.com and the PHN 4.4.2 ROM of mythi's.
I am now running CarbonRom 4.4.2, and also tried to restore 4.2.2 Stock.
The only downside being that if you install 4.4.2 and restore a custom ROM after that you will get a red line when booting saying "KERNEL IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING".
So you can go ahead full speed and try it, works like a charm!

Okay!
My problem is that only updates what i have installed are samsung stock updates, so i haven't never used odin or flashed anything in my phone.
After i updatet my phone to 4.4,2. ( i think it was last week) some of apps stopped to work
Now i'd like to downgrade it back.
I found some instructions that only thing that i have to do is flsh 4.2.2 with odin and i'm back to jb.... it did not work. And now i' back to kk...
But if i use your instructions to root my stock 4.4,2 and after that i flash stock 4.2,2 NEE Rom i' m back to JB.
Can you also type simplified instructions (with downloadlinks) how to do it... it's my first time.
Thanks so much!!!
revert to 4.2.2
hello,
i have a GT-I9295
i have updated from 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 PDA: I9295XXUCNH2 released 7 aug. via odin 3.09
had to do a factory reset to get wifi working, etc..
i then wanted to revert back to 4.2, but i couldn't, and still can't... i did the following:
- flash with odin the 4.2 from sammobile: error: NAND Write Start!!.....<ID:0/004> Complete(Write) operation failed. soft brik, Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again.
- tried to reflash the 4.4 firmware i already had with odin...same error.
- couldnt boot the phone again untill i flashed cwm 6.0.5.0
- installed carbon rom from cwm no problem. did reset, wipe cahe, format system, etc. i now have the not seandroid enforcing message when booting and entering recovery, but everything works.
- tried to flash again with odin the 4.2 official, still no luck. same error right after nand write.
i remember downgrading from 4.4 PDA: I9295XXUCNE4 to 4.2 PDA: I9295XXUBML3 with no problems a while back on my other i9295 via odin.
is the bootloader different in this version of 4.4 i flashed than the one i flashed a while back?
the weird thing is that i get the same write failure with reflashing 4.4 with odin.
any thoughts?
thank you

Update
Hello All,
Files are now up
Ggow much appreciated that safetrap version is coming back!
Just to clarify that this rom will work with devices that got upgraded to 4.5.2 and then downgraded by ACS to 3.2.7/8 and rooted with safetrap working.
Here are some questions that I'm sure people will be curious about:
- I'm currently on 2.0.2 and root checker says root is enabled, but couldn't find the supersu app. How does it work? Do i need to flash supersu?
- Can you install xposed with modules on this version? For example to mod notifications bar, status bar, power menu, etc.
- can I safely upgrade from the older 2.0.2 to this version?
- what about addons like the dolby digital? I assume its safe to flash too?
- current build.prop ids the device as Nexus HDX and tgere are a lot of apps on play store that are not compatible with the device, but they work just fine installed from another market (say 1mobile). Can we do something about it?
Sorry for so many questions, but i tried reading most stuff from the other thread but for some reason search in thread is disabled (no idea why).
Cheerz!
Awesome, thanks!!!

Correct, yes.

The ROM is pre-rooted with the su binary and a daemon. SuperSU is a root manager so its up to you if want that functionality.

Yes you can.

Yes

Yes

No matter how I modify the build.prop, google play store ends up not playing nice. So no not at the moment. Market helper used to work for this problem but seems to but patched now on googles servers.

OK, I updated and flashed all gapps and addons. Everything works!
Then I tried installing Xposed Framework, and on reboot the result was black screen after rom bootup (right after android animation). Waited like 2-3 minutes, but nothing. Then had to force reboot it via power button. After reboot everything works again with Xposed installed. No idea what happened. Any guidelines on where I can check logs probably.
havent tried any module yet, but it would be nice if we keep a list of compatible and safe modules.
Question: can any of the xposed modules trip eFuse or break stock kernel (as rom is running on top of it) or safetrap makes it safe so any changes to system would be just to the slot rom?

Use this verison of Xposed found here.
Try Gravitybox (JB).
I don't know if any of the modules can trigger the efuse. You are correct, in theory Safestrap makes it so that any changes should only occur in that slot.
So far this ROM has been excellent. Great job and thanks a lot!
I have the problem, that there is no Play Store and I can't install downloaded applications. I downloaded applications through the browser and when I try to execute them I get the error "can't open file". So I can literally install no app. I tried to install ES File Explorer and gapps pico.
Anyone else who had this problem or knows how to solve it or has some ideas?

Hi GGow, I'm a complete noob to the scene, have searched around the forums. Finally got Safestrap 3.75 and SuperSU working on my Amazon Kindle Fire HDX that was downgraded to 13.3.2.8 by ACS from 4.5.2. Utilized the TowelRoot method to get rooted.
I want to make sure the installation procedure for this ROM, since I've never done one. Currently I utilized SafeStrap 3.75 and backed up my stock 13.3.2.8 ROM on the device.
The process to install this ROM would be -
1. Flash safestrap-thor-nexus-rom.zip or safestrap-apollo-nexus-rom.zip
2. Flash hdx-nexus-gapps-v1.2.zip
3. Then flash any addons
4. If coming from any other ROM then do a factory reset.
5. Reboot and enjoy.
My only issue is that do I flash all of these roms like the safestrap-thor-nexus-rom.zip onto seperate slots? Or keep re-flashing the same slot? I apologize for my noobness, but I'm really new to Android Dev and rooting.

To add to what @gqukyo said:
1. If you intend for HDX Nexus ROM to be your main ROM and because you are on 13.3.2.8 I would make sure you take a backup of your current stock ROM.
2. Restore the backup to slot 1 . Ensure slot 1 then boots correctly
3. You can then switch back to your stock slot and follow the instructions above.
4. Otherwise if you want stock to be your main ROM then just follow the instructions as they are above after creating a new ROM slot.

Ha! I didn't even think to use the "stock rom" for any custom roms... I don't suppose it really matters does it? I did create the max 16gb for my rom slot though I did hear about people having issues installing games when it complained device didn't have enough space... if it does matter then I'd rather use the stock slot since there doesn't seem to be any other roms to try anyways.

I don't think he ment to replace your stock slot with custom rom.
I was wondering why would i restore stock backup to slot 1? Is this just to verify if backup works? Can i later remove it from slot 1.
It would take too much space to have a stock and slot 1 as stock and then slot 2 for nexus.
Fyi you can safely install Xposed 2.7 experimental and then activate gravitybox, and other aosp modules.

[Q] Xposed on I537 running Lollipop OC6

I have an S4 Active I537 which I recently installed the rooted OC6 Lollipop firmware. I have been having a hard time trying to get the framework to install. I got the xposed-sdk21-arm-20150430.zip file from here. I understand that I need to recovery install it. I tried doing the volume up, power and home trick to get into the recovery mode and from there I select "apply update from external storage". It fails and gives the message: "E: footer is wrong. E: Signature verification failed" After that it reboots and automatically performs a recovery format.
I have read that I would need to flash either TWRP or CWM, but apparently none of these are available for the I537.
Any Help?

Use flash fire in lieu of a recovery, we can't use a custom recovery with the locked bootloader. And you can't install any non stock, unofficial software in the stock recovery
Xposed works on our devices (you have to use the special tw version). But it is still an alpha. I have had a lot of issues with FCs and nova launcher not working. I'm trying to make it work total and proper but no luck so far. The replacement gapps in that post for tw Xposed fixed some but not all Google play related FCs but Google play isn't working even after installing the replacement ones here is the link for the tw version. http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-xposed-samsung-lollipop-t3113463

Do exactly what was described in Post #2 and #3 in this thead: use FlashFire to flash the TouchWiz version of Xposed.

ALL Gravitybox features actually do work, as it's under most do not...what I have to do is everytime I make a change, before I reboot I choose battery color and re-apply my color for it. By ending with a feature that works without complication, it seems it then let's the new setup you chose also work. Don't know why this is but everything on my I537 is changed around with GravityBox, took me awhile to figure this out...but trying to figure out which features worked, I was able to get them all to eventually work.
I'm in the same boat as you, except I have xposed framework. What you need is a DEODEXED ROM on it. You use Odin to get on KitKat, root with towelroot, the upgrade to OC6 (not OC7) with a DEODEXED ROM. Then. Once you're in lolipop, install the xposed installer, then the framework with flash fire. One thing though, download all the things you need to your PC because wifi will not work while you are in kitkat, upgrading to lolipop. (At least it didn't for me)

Is this still a better way guys going with OC6 instead of OC7? Can you use the latest Xposed module like 89 or something now?

I need help with a Samsung Galaxy s5 with android 5.0

.
Hi,
I want to install the Xposed framework on my Samsung Galaxy s5 with android 5.0 rooted, but every zip file I try to flash with TWRP and reboot my phone it is stuck on the Samsung logo.
I have tried also arter97 rom, but my phone has a stock rom, so what do I have to do?
Thanks
.
Did you read the read only thread? In big red letters it says why you have issues. Did you look at the board you posted in? , especially as you tried the Arter fork already, did you notice it says
arter97 said:
/* Technical information and Q&A */
Q: Okay, you don't seem like a better developer than @rovo89. How did you do it?
A: Of course not. This is the main reason why deodex'ed ROM is a prerequisite.
Samsung has implemented all sorts of funny stuffs on their version of ART. See the link above.
To workaround this, converting a ROM to deodex'ed format somewhat brings back the oat formats to *AOSP-like* dex format(Huge thanks to @_riddle).
After deodexing is done, we can use source-built ART binaries with minimal modifications.
But due to my coding skills, I had to modify core-libart.jar to make it work again.
The core-libart.jar differs from every single device out there and it'll be a real headache to match with 1 ART binary version. That's why I've included the core-libart.jar on the installation zip file.
The included core-libart.jar has 2 different versions to correspond on the type of ROM user is using.
1 : Firmwares with appStartup
2 : Firmwares without appStartup
After deodexing, installing new ART stuffs, we can start the boot-up sequence.
Unfortunately again, /system/bin/installd passes some arguments that AOSP version of dex2oat do not understand. To bypass this, I've patched oat tools to ignore unimplemented arguments.
Now we can see the good old "Android is upgrading" pop-up and go have a cup of coffee while it dexopts all those hundreds of bloatwares.
Q: How do I deodex my ROM?
A: @joeldroid and @svadev have an awesome tool for you to deodex your ROM.
Go check http://forum.xda-developers.com/and.../script-app-joeldroid-lollipop-batch-t2980857 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/tool-deodex-tool-android-l-t2972025
Both worked flawlessly for me.

Hi,
I want to install the Xposed framework on my Samsung Galaxy s5 with android 5.0 rooted, but every zip file I try to flash with TWRP and reboot my phone it is stuck on the Samsung logo.
I have tried also arter97 rom, but my phone has a stock rom, so what do I have to do?

Did you have a stock rom before flashing the firmware?
What firmware did you flash?
Thanks

Don't bother, find a Rom that's already been deodexed.

In the arter thread 2nd post (I think, but one of the original posts) is a link for a guide how to and a deodex ROM
And you don't even need to look for them as I quoted them above

Looking for 5.1.1 stock ROM with mod that prevents issues with Xposed ART Bootloops

Looking for 5.1.1 stock ROM that is modded in a way that it prevents bootloops issues with Xposed and Samsung ART.
Any ROM recommendations?
I don't have this kind of problem with xposed

I just installed xposed and got into a bootloop too. Stock ROM rooted.
Realy no one that can awnser my question?
Try this version of Xposed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-xposed-samsung-lollipop-t3180960
It works with stock roms. You must flash it using TWRP 2.8, becasue TWRP3.0 has the bootloop issue, dont know why.
Hey @Vaako,
I'm not sure if this is still urgent for you, but here's the procedure I followed to get what you want:
- Grab a recent stock ROM that fits your country from updato.com
- Flash the stock ROM to the device using ODIN
- Root the device by flashing CF-AutoRoot using ODIN.
- Flash TWRP 3.0 to the device using ODIN
- Use Barebone Cleaner (by installing it through TWRP 3.0) to remove unneeded Samsung bloatware
- Install wanam's Xposed mod for Samsung using TWRP 3.0.
Note that this works for me with TWRP 3.0 without any bootloop issues.
Result: a cleaned-up, rooted recent stock ROM with XPosed installed.
No custom kernels or anything, because on my G800H custom kernels make me lose GPS. Your mileage may vary, though.
