Can i change roms with a locked bootloader? - Moto X Q&A

i'm sorry if this sounds stupid but i did look very hard and can't find this simple answer
i have a locked xt1058 which is rooted at 4.4.
kind of sick of waiting for ATT to release 4.4.2 and i have been wondering if i can actually change roms or is root all i can achieve?

There are a few Roms, but not many, and they come with some glitches.
4.4.2 won't change your life....personally I'd wait.

I'm assuming you went the safestrap route, so check the dev section to see what you can use with a locked bootloader and for your phone model.

i know.. i was asking if it's physically possible to change roms on a locked bootloader, if side loading itself is possible in some method?

Stockish ROM Needed For C Spire XT1049 Moto X

Hello, I did not know where exactly to post this thread, but this seems to be the best place. I have a Moto X from C Spire (previously Cellular South), and it's model number is XT1049. I have tried the Republic Wireless version of the stock XT1049 ROM, but it didn't work. I was just wondering if anybody had a ROM that is stock/close to stock that will work on a C Spire-issued Moto X.
Thanks,
Intrepit
ROMs for your phone are available here:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=0
4.2.2 is Jelly Bean, 4.4.2 is Kit Kat. If you want to root it install 4.2.2.
If you install 4.4.2 you will have a locked bootloader that cannot be downgraded to JB later. If you take specific steps to make a Franken-ROM that can have write protection disabled and runs with the 4.2.2 bootloader you can have Kit Kat. You will have to decide if you think it's worth it. From my perspective KK isn't that big a deal, but I had a lot of fun doing it and learned a few things along the way. YMMV.

Correction:
"... you can have Kit Kat." Should say rooted KK.

What I meant was like flashable zips, not firmwares. Im making a ROM for me and a friend that doesn't take away from the Moto X's primary features, thats why I needed a close-to-stock ROM.
Also, Im running KK (4.4.2) rooted and unlocked bootloader.
Just so you know, if you're on 4.4.2 with an unlocked boot loader, you still can't downgrade . the brick risk is the same, locked or unlocked.
For the record.

I wouldn't dare downgrading

[Q] Now that we have root, can we flash dev items from the S6 non branded forum?

That's basically what i'm asking, now that Pingpong has allowed us to achieve root on the ATT variant can we benefit from some of the development that has already started or will we have to wait for unified development? Just wondering how different the hardware is for each variant and if things like KT Kernal and Rom's that have been posted in the S6 G920F forum will be compatible with the ATT Variant.
Thanks
It boot loader is locked, we still await either that to be unlocked, the ability to reassign our model number (CSC in the HTC world) once/ if this is achieved, we will be wide open to everything, until then, we can remove all the bloat, system files that are taking up room and using resources and so on.

We have a big jump to make, before we are full blown fun town.

Safestrap on note 4 tmobile

So I wanna know if there is anyway to use safestrap on out devices...I understand it was originally made cause att and Verizon have locked bootloader but I kind like the idea of duel booting ny phone with custom roms... that way of one is messing up I can switch to another....seen a thread were the att one works on the note 3 but what about the note 4???

I wouldn't recommend a safestrap, just get a spigen neo hybrid case and your phone should be pretty safe. At&t note 4 is not locked. I was able to pull off the back cover on my brother's At&t note 4, it's not locked at all. The Rom here are pretty solid, no dueling what's so ever. The same Rom boots up everytime. If your Rom ever messes up then Odin is your best friend. Hope this helps.

Just kidding. Most user here on the Tmo fourum don't know what safestrap is. I do miss the option to dual boot with safestrap though. The bootloader is unlocked for Tmo note 4 so no need for safestrap. I believe the At&t note 4 still to this day has not gotten root. No root = no safestrap development. That was the main reason I ditched At&t and switch over to Tmo. Keeps getting better for Tmo customers with this jump on demand program coming up.

Root for e5 cruise? (Cricket Variant)

Do any of the root methods work for this variant? Don't want to mess anything up without confirmation from someone who has the same device and has rooted it successfully.
If you find 1 I'd sure like to get ahold of it

Ya same here I've done everything and just caint get it. Hopefully when I get my free "unlock" from Cricket next month I'll have an update...
Has anyone tried unlocking the bootloader? That's the beginning step if I'm not mistaken and out of practice..

Ya I should be able to get them to unlock in December. You have to be a customer for 6 months with them before they will unlock it
Im not sure what you guys are talking about but its well known the e5 cruise by cricket is on the unlockable bootloader list by motorola so theres no way to flash a nonstock recovery, root, or flash a custom rom as of yet. And its unlikely it will ever.

De-Brand a G977P, Sprint S10 5G?

Just got the phone, unlocked it, works fine on T-Mobile, but I was wondering if we can debrand this or rebrand to another carrier like most G9xxU phones out there. I know this is a P and probably isn't simple, but has anyone tried yet?

what csc are available on your device/firmware? for example my N976V has VZW and GCF.. i switched to gcf and its basically unbranded.. at least in my case..
problem with the carrier specific models they might have slightly dif capabilities such as network so putting csc on that doesnt go with the device might not work right

its a procees and files n methods are not public but essentially once u can enable keystrings and hiddenmenu on vzw can use *#272*IMEI# to change it.. with root theres many many ways
heres a pic of the menu on my n976v
How do you unlock the sprint s10 5g to use in another carrier or boost?
How do you unlock the SM-G977p to use on another carrier or boost?

really? i assume this was after you unlocked the BL?
No, I cannot get the unlock oem boot loader button to pop up. Unless it was there before I flashed and it was unbeknownst to me opened.

so u took full tmo firmware for a g975u and flashed it to g977p without unlocking the bl or anything?
can u take a pic of ur about phone and software info and post it so i can see what its reading as?
this is very interesting since it would mean that the regular U versions are signed with same keys as the 5g sprint version which is unlockable.
also, did u flash everything? BL AP CP CSC etc?
I flashed the G977tuvs2ash_8_tmb_[www.unlockguy.ca]. I have since paid my sprint bill, refreshed the sprint firmware, and it is good as new, with the OEM unlock button now showing up. You want me to try it again without enabling oem unlock and see what happens?

so g977t firm works on g977p.. interesting..i havent found any firmware yet that works on my n976v except vzw firm lol
Well it has only just been released, and verizon is notorious for their security
So can someone summarize what can be bootloader unlocked? Not sure why there is no thread dedicated for this, maybe it wouldn't be asked 1,000 times over and over.
SM-G977P: Sprint 5G, can be bootloader unlocked like Exynos and other Android phones easily and rooted.
SM-G977T: TMobile 5G....????
SM-G977U: Verizon 5G, not unlockable or flashable?
SM-G977N (Exynos): ?
