Hi there, I'm new here. I'd like to ask anyone who know about blootloader. I have one issue with my phone. A few days ago, (more accurate - 1-2 weeks) I did rooting for my phone Xperia Z. Before that, I checked the configuration, and then I was allowed to unlock it. But now, (after rooting) i'm not able to do that anymore. How to understand that?
Before rooting was writting : „Allowed to unlock bootloader: Yes“
After : „No“.
What the hell happend ?
Does software update will solve this issue with my phone ?
What I shloud to do ?
I'm going to attach photo after rooting. I had contacted Sony HELP, but they said that I should search help anywhere else, 'cause they don't know anything about it or they can't say.
Maybe they can't answer 'cause I'm living in another country in which there's no Sony phone centre, only the main.
Any suggestions?
Did you root using this method - http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/root-xperia-z-zl-tablet-z-lb-ub-t2186368?
If so, you will see this written in the first post -
if u had an unlockable bootloader device, after using this method the device will be detected as LOCKED or unlock not possible!!! (to fix this use this fix)

Also, Sony support will not help with problems caused by you unofficially modifying the software on your phone, no matter where you live.

I did with this method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsh51O1ImMM

How I need to flash it ? I'm newbie at Android. :/
Do I need just replace that file with Root Explorer to it's file original destination? Thanks for reply.
EDIT: By the way, do I need upload META-IN folder too? :?

The method in that video is indeed the method that I linked to. You need to flash the file in recovery.
Try XZDualRecovery If you need a recovery. It should work, but I cannot be 100% on that as it seems you're on quite an old 4.1 firmware version.

I have that recovery already. It's needed to have SD card? Can I flash it though the phone memory ? Yes, I've 4.1.2 version. Awaiting for KitKat. Is there's any possibility to brick the phone? 'Cause I'm scared to try that then if so.
Yes, just put it on your internal SD. You will not brick your phone by flashing that file.

You do realise that if for example your phone had TMobile ROM on it it will download the TMobile ROM in that tutorial. I have done it myself. I am with Telstra (in Australia) and I followed that tutorial and as soon as I flashed the ROM I downloaded I saw the Telstra splashscreen.

I am afraid I am a noob here on that. I had just followed the tutorial to the T and created a FTF that can be flashed with flashtool. Been using this for the past two weeks when ROMs can't be rooted/CWM can't be installed.

All I'm saying is that I followed the tutorial word for word and VipeR lx is right when he clarified things up that if your XZ is branded you would still get the downloaded ROM branded, just like what happened to me. Luckily there's a unbranded ROM for Australia which made it possible for me to de-brand my XZ. I do have the Telstra ROM saved so if ever I had to send it away for warranty repairs I can always flash the Telstra ROM back.
Me too. I used the update services software to download. After downloading the file and flashing with flash tool, there is no indication that this firmware is linked to any Telco.
Maybe if someone can flash and report?

Once the screen dims and try to go off, the demo video starts up. I don't know how to get rid of this even after I flash my original FTF's system :'(

Strange, bro.
Did you even manage to get into the setup? 5 steps to setting up your phone? I had that demo video. but after setting up the phone, all is well.
I had tried this firmware a few times after installing ROMs that are based on the 434, as somehow, I lose 3G with these ROMs. I couldn't even root the phone with the method described.
So I flashed back to the stock 350 firmware and root the phone and install the CWM recovery in the phone again.

I wanted to debrand as mine is attached to SingTel. I flashed this over my existing setup and didn't do a wipe. Now it has screwed up that I can't turn the screen off at all (finally I killed that some demo application and off now). Luckily didn't loose data except the home screen setup.
I will have to reinstall the whole thing tonight.

I think this is unbranded as the apps from M1 which I got this phone from is not present in the FTF after flashing with flash tool.

Who knows maybe the M1 apps in your phone was not integrated to the ROM and it was only installed on top. I can't really tell. I just know that when I did the tutorial I still got the Telstra ROM.
Also using the Flashtool you have a choice of wiping data if you don't untick the boxes before you flash.
EDIT:
There is the
(FTF) C6603 10.1.A.434 Cust ID 1270-1412_R6A Singapore available in that thread. The handset apparently is from M1 so I'm not sure if it's branded or not.

No don't remove the thread. If you didn't get M1 apps after following that tutorial then the M! apps must have been installed on top of the ROM that's probably why you never got any M! apps when you reflash.
Keep this thread it's always a contribution that you made and plenty of people will have use for it.

I flashed with flashtool and there is option not to wipe.
This firmware is confirmed not the generic as I have seen this SI/CDA number in the demo set. Retail sets (so far I've seen) begins with 1270, but if you notice this begins with 1272. Moreover, none of the retail sets will run the "demo" video when you start your phone and worst is that it won't let your phone to switch off the screen.
I don't know how you ended up with this firmware on your handset!

Hi,
My first post here on XDA! I have a Generic NL .253 Rom (without root, BL locked) flashed on my Z. I want to downgrade it to version .434 so I can root my phone. The problem is, everytime I try to flash it with flashtool, whenever my phone boots up, I get a message saying it's upgrading NFC, then it suddenly reboots. This happens over and over (kind of like a bootloop). I have tried several .FTF files. Also, I don't want to do a clean flash, I have made several backups but I'm afraid they don't live up to my 'backup'-standards. Does anyone know a fix for this?
Thanks in advance!

Hey, thanks for you reply. Yes, I can. I reflashed my old .253 Generic NL software in between trying other .434 files and it still works fine.
The problem with the .434 is that my phone does boot, but it never properly boots, you know what I mean? It keeps on resetting, and displaying the 'NFC updating' message. Any ideas?

I'm actually having the exact same issue. I would like to downgrade so I can regain root. I have a feeling to fix the boot loop we would have to wipe the phone. I'm just deciding if I want to try that yet as it sucks redoing everything and the phone is running so good.

Pre installed backup and recovery works great if you're not rooted. Just make sure to check all boxes to backup. Store backup on computer, wipe, flash, root 253 then restore.

I had exactly the same problem and the only solution was downgrade to .434 with a full wipe!
Everything else I tried ended in restart because of the NFC update.
I could restore my system, because I rooted .434 after the clean install,
updated to .253 from [nut] and restored only the data partition from my last nandroid with recovery.
Then everything was as before and works fine.
But trust me, the only solution is downgrading with a full wipe! :good:
Did you try flash kernel/ otakernel from the .434 with flashtool if not try then
I will skip that update (cannot even get it from Sony PC Companion) so wait for 4.2
I dont use NFC and don't need whitebalance calibration.

It is not possible to do a OTA Update after deleting one or more system apps (even stuff like partnerbookmarks).
There are, however, 2 ways to get the Update.
1.) Follow some of the instructions here like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2287149
There are some other ways posted here at xda. They use the flashtool to flash current firmware.
2.) Use Sony PC Companion, this will work ALWAYS,but: Root will be gone. U can use Doomlords rooting method to get Root again:

How did you install TWRP if your phone is not unlocked?
If you have a working recovery it would not hurt to install the fix, as it seems to be the only installation method
Of course I can not garuantee for anything.
Because you do not need to unlock to install recovery....
Just flash the zip in either cmw or twrp recovery
Or just extract the build.prop from the zip and push it manually.
But to be honest, why does barclays need a build.prop tweak to work. I wouldn't trust my bank in this case

I know is slightly OT, but how would I do that? I thought you would have to flash some custom kernel to get a working recovery. The dual recovery for locked BL is still work in progress isn't it?
Thanks in advance!
It works fine for 40 seconds then reboots. That's more than enough to flash a small zip like that. It just is not write long enough for a backup or restore.
Also you do not flash a partition for recovery as Sony devices do not have a recovery partition. Recovery on Sony devices hijacks the chargemon file to boot up into it.
I am not 100% sure about all the technicalities so don't shoot me if I am wrong on that, but the recovery for locked bootloaders will work for small flashes.

Just flash the zip in either cmw or twrp recovery
Or just extract the build.prop from the zip and push it manually.
But to be honest, why does barclays need a build.prop tweak to work. I wouldn't trust my bank in this case

Sadly the barclays banking app doesn't work on a rooted phone, and this is a fix for it to work.

Are you sure? What part of rooting affects the build.prop? None that I am aware of.

Definitely, when I try to log into the app I get a in app message saying the barclays banking app is not supported on rooted devices. And then it just quits

Only way with a locked Bootloader is described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2455959
But it is still in development and I would not advise it if you're not 100% sure what you're doing.
You could also unlock your phone and flash the Advanced Stock, Doom or any other kernel containing a recovery, but you will loose your Sony DRM Keys (Camera, X-Reality,...). They can be backed up (Backup TA partition) and restored, but the procedure is not that easy either.
Is this banking app really that important?

It's convenient for me to have it, but suppose I could always use the mobile Web version
I shall wait until there's a fix for the unlock bootloader, not worth losing your camera for

I understand that bit, but rooting does not affect the build.prop, so why would modding it let the app think your phone is not rooted? Please can you send me a link to the thread you posted a picture of so I can look inside the zip and see what it is trying to do

bumping this thread as it's related to my post since that's my Cwm zip in op, barclays checks the build prop for the debug keys and if it's successful says Device is rooted, barclays latest versions have much more advanced detection methods

Hey guys!
I tried rooting using Doomlord's method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386405) but for some reason the script didn't install supersu or root my phone. Is anyone else experiencing troubles with this or know how to troubleshoot the issue?
This is what I did:
-Opened flashtool and flashed .423 kernel only
-Closed flashtool
-launched Doomlord's script
-script says everything was successful and phone reboots (checked for Supersu and root but nothing)
-flashed back .67 kernel
what firmware are you starting from? Ive found It works best for me to do a full flash of stock 67 firmware, (unbranded) then flash a 423 kernel, then use doomlords root method, but flash the 67 kernel back before actually rebooting to the os. on my phone it will boot with the 423 kernel, but others have reported it not. also is your phone a c6602, 6603, or tmobile 6606? because the 02 and 03 have different firmware versions. also its possible your adb/usb drivers arent set up or working properly, recovery and doomlord can say they installed fine but have no effect if the driver is not doing its thing
Try Kingo, It worked flawlessly! :')
Try this method using Kingo Android Root!
Easy method to root...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2460745
Ask me if you need more help.
Do not use Kingo root.
It sends your IMEI and several other pieces of data that it should never need, such as your device ID to a server in China. It is currently not allowed on XDA for that reason.

Hey
I'm on 67 and its a 6603. How do I know for sure if my adb/usb drivers aren't set up properly? I previously rooted my phone back on the older firmwares but encountered some issues some I went back to stock and used supersu to unroot.

Yes. Read the last post in the thread that you linked to.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47188994
You will find that every thread linking to Kingo gets closed at the moment.
They try and justify grabbing all the info that they do on their Facebook page, but I do not trust them and would not give their software full access to my phone.

Thanks Man! You just saved me. I removed it from my PC :/
But I used it root my Xperia Z! Now what should I do? Do I need to reset my phone if that put something also in my phone?
Please help me, I am so tensed now!
It isn't proven that anything bad is pushed to your phone. Only that they grab your device ID/IMEI etc during the rooting process.
I just do not personally trust Kingo for a number of reasons, such as the fact that they hide their company location and registered their website in the US, when they clearly are not from there.
If you're concerned, perhaps you should flash a stock rom either by repairing your phone with PCC/SUS or with Flashtool. That will remove any changes to your phone's system. Then root again with a method by a trusted developer such as DooMLoRD.
