I'm sure this question has been asked before, and I'm expecting the "use search"flame but, I'm on my hd2 over edge at god awful speeds...anyways...
I've had it with this phone, it's terrible. I've had it since launch day, and I'd hoped I would get used to it by now..not the case. before I got this phone I was considering the n1, until I found out it was only upgradeable for individuals. My question is, if I buy an n1 outright, will I be able to get my sim card and put it in and it work?I have a family plan with unlimited data. (T-mobile obviously)
Yes, you can just pop in your exist T-Mobile SIM card and it will work.
Rock on, thanks man.
To add... when I was signing up for my account (I bought the phone outright) I asked what plan options are available. They said I could even use a prepaid SIM in it, they didn't care. Obviously the prepaid would be cheaper depending on how much I use, but you have to keep an eye on it.
From the 3 different TMo reps I talked to, they said your plan is tied to the SIM card, what phone you put that SIM card into, doesn't matter. That's what I was told, hope it's right and hope that helps.

100% correct. I bought the N1 with ATT 3G bands and just slammed my SIM card in it and away I went
Sweet, since I'm here and got more responses than I thought...from the general consensus, what are the biggest "faults"of the n1?
anything like buggy sms, outdated OS, freeze issues, lockups, <24 battery life it anything like that?
Also this if more a personal preference but, I've had tmobile for 3 years now, but I'm really starting to get irked at the lack of 3g and better technology, would it be worth it to break contract and switch to at&t? I just renewed for another 2 years with tmo so I think it's like 175 it something for early cancellation.

nothing so serious as any of those things, the common issues is 3g connectivity being spotty (but they have fixed this for the most part) and touch sensitivity bugs (nothing I've experienced). Tmobile is currently adding 3.5g all around america http://t-mobile-coverage.t-mobile.com/coverage# see the ling in middle of page to see cities with it and what is comming.

Poor Exchange support so if you want this thing to play nice with a work account good luck.
But other than that, there are no show stopper bugs/defects. For the most part the Nexus One with 2.1 is a solid consumer smartphone and there won't be any worry about outdated OS since Google will push out updates to the N1 first and if you're too impatient for them to push it to you, you can always find it here.
About the 3G issues, you may want to check this post which explains how T-Mobile shows their data speeds and check AT&T's coverage map for your area to see how they compare.
I would absolutely not go to AT&T from T-mobile. You're much better off on that side of the road, bro.

Hi I am a prospective HTC One buyer (my iPhone 4S is getting wonky + i'm tired of the slow 3G speeds). I'm thinking of buying the One because I want to be on the 4G LTE network since it's the same price for my monthly bill but I don't know how good or bad 4G LTE is in NYC? I've seen some threads here but they are from a year ago or more so I would like to hear some real life experiences with LTE in NYC for sprint? I'm confused because in the news it's officially launched but when I go to the sprint stores, they say NYC doesn't have LTE??
I'm also thinking of getting the HTC One because of the free 23 Gbs for Dropbox - I know it's carrier specific (Verizon & Sprint). My question is, do you have to stick with the stock rom in order to keep using the 23 Gbs or what? I'm guessing it won't matter but I don't know if they can authenticate it somehow if you switch from Sprint's official rom to something custom.
Lastly I'm very confused about the bootloader situation - I remember hearing about HTC wanted to lock their bootloader or something to that effect. I just want to know if the HTC One can still be rooted and get the free tethering feature (with LTE support or just 3G? When I had an EVO, the tethering only worked for 3G, not WiMax) as well flash custom roms? Thank you!
I'm getting bored of my iPhone (which is crashing on me a lot) and even though I still have a year left on my contract, I am thinking about just buying the phone outright from sprint for the full price because I want LTE and that big ass screen lol.

I think Sensorly is available for iPhones-- if you download it, you'll be able to get a pretty reasonable coverage map of your area that's not from corporate (which is important because it may also show you areas where Sprint hasn't officially announced LTE, but still has it operational). And yes, you can can keep the extra space no matter what ROM you're on-- once Dropbox confirms you're valid for the promotion, that stuff remains server-side (otherwise, anyone owning multiple devices would be in for a huge headache).
Almost all HTC phones have their bootloaders locked, but Sprint's variant is unlockable as per usual by following instructions at HTCDev. When you do so though, HTC will log your device as being unlocked (since you need the unlock key from HTC to do so) and it may become a sticking point if you need to ever use manufacturer warranty.
4G tethering works as far as I know.

Thanks for the sensorly. According to the website, it says there is 4G in NYC! However, on the iOS app nothing shows up. I don't see any coverage of any kind (i.e. not for 3G, 4G etc).
Okay gotcha so it's still possible to root the HTC One but you just need a key from HTC and be ready to give up the warranty. Okay that sounds good! Anyone have any experience with their HTC One in NYC? I'm just curious how New Yorkers' experience with the One and 4G has been. I'm from Brooklyn btw but I go to Manhattan all the time.

My LTE speeds in NYC vary anywhere from 31mbs to 3 Mbs depending on location

Errr really? Try uninstalling/reinstalling it? And are you sure you're looking at coverage maps for Sprint? I can see something up top near NYC.

I second this I only get respectable 4G in Queens, and some parts of Brooklyn (around 20 down at like 11 pm) it's very spotty in manhattan.
I just purchased a used 817V and it has Marshmallow PE1 firmware on it with the May 2016 Security Update, is this the latest firmware for this tablet?
Also, I got it from Amazon Warehouse and it was supposed to be the 810 WiFi model but they shipped the Verizon LTE model. I'm an AT&T customer and wouldn't mind using this once in a while on LTE, will it work?
I expect Amazon will exchange it for the wifi model if I ask but I can't decide whether or not I got a deal or should exchange. Am I right to believe the WiFi version will be updated more often than the Verizon version? Thanks.
By any chance did you get this from Deal Road (they sell on Amazon)? They did a similar thing to me. I bought an 810 and they shipped me an 817V. They offered to exchange it for an 813 which is tempting, but I'm thinking that having the LTE might be nice when I'm on the road.
Yes the LTE does work. You have to install a SIM card of course, free to get but $10/month to use and the downloads go against whatever data plan you have. Test it yourself - turn off WiFI and turn on Mobile data. You'll still have internet access.
As for your question about frequency of updates, I don't know. I doubt there will be any significant function updates either way so I wouldn't make that criteria a basis for a decision.

Mine was actually sold by Amazon Warehouse Deals and described as "Good Condition", to be fair it came in nearly flawless. I wish it was sold by Deal Road as I wouldn't have had to pay tax
All my experience with anything Verizon has been less than stellar with tons of bloat and sparse (if any) updates. The wifi version is tempting as it's unbranded and 'should' get updates directly from Samsung (right?). Reading online a bit shows that some units are getting updated with later security patches (and who know what other bug fixes). I always just like having the latest/great firmware available.
Thanks for the info on the LTE, I'll pop my sim card out of my phone, put it in the tablet and test it out. That may be reason alone to keep it, just to have the 'option'.
Is your firmware version PE1 also?
Yes, PE1. You can always get firmware at http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model

Hi,
Just wondering whether this is phone related or telco related. In my advance option I dont have the LTE high speed mode option to enable as below like my friend have. Is it my phone problem or sim card problem
mine
my friend
After comparing with others seems like if we insert 2 sim cards then we wont have the option but if only single sim then will be getting that LTE high speed mode options. just weird

What does this LTE High Speed Mode on Huawei phones do, what does it mean exactly?
I have this option on my Huawei Mate 20 X EVR-L29.
I was hesitant to turn it on for awhile but I finally decided to try it, it seems to drain the battery a slight bit but the data does seem slightly faster

It's not a carrier option.
I am in the US, Huawei technology is banned here, it's products aren't sold here by carriers so there's no carrier programming on them, I am currently on AT&T's unlimited prepaid plan & prepaid plans don't get many if any carrier options here in the US.
I think it's just an option that comes stock in this phone.

Hi all,
I have the pro here in the UK.
My wife also has a p20 pro on EE UK.
In the past I've been able to obtain very high speeds at home, 250Mb + was the average.
Nowadays I seem to be capped at 90Mb down and 30Mb up.
My wife, sat next to me with the same phone and network can obtain the 250Mb down and 70Mb up like I used to.
EE says they don't know, I've swapped the SIM, flashed other ROMs? Same thing.
Any idea?
APN is correct
Location is identical to what it was before.
Signal appears maxed out.
LTE is allowed.
ROM makes no difference, EMUI, AOSIP, lineage.
Have not installed pie.
Bootloader unlocked but it was the same when at stock..
All subsequent firmwares have had the same issue.
Getting a bit annoyed with it tbh, if it's EE I can't really complain, I am getting 89-90Mb solid, but obviously not what I should be getting compared to my wife.
Just guessing - but is one of you on a max plan, and the other on essential?
Depends on the tariff I think. EE Max plans are granted higher speeds than EE essential plans.

Well this is what I thought, but I've been assured that it's not the case and that we should both be getting the same speeds. I need to call them back so will at some point.
I have a high end contract so should be getting the max speeds.
Capped at 90Mb does seem like it's the case.

That is odd. In Pie, I have a setting to ensure the high speed LTE is enabled. Not sure what version you're on but might be worth hunting settings to see if you've accidentally turned something off.

Ok so turns out after speaking with a nice chap at EE for about an hour, after a SIM swap, after talking to two of his colleagues.
He found a setting for faster 4G, something which I've always had.
It was disabled for around 1 year by all accounts, with no accountability from EE.
Anyway, for this feature to be available even though I was never advised that it was disabled / enabled or was even an extra, it would cost £2 extra per month on top of my contact.
The chap I spoke with got it added for free. Probably because I'd been paying for it and not been getting speeds.
The second he turned it on a speed test on Ookla showed speeds of 200Mb.
Anyway, just thought I'd share.
Happy now.
Yep I'll take that
Good times.
Second screen shot shows the previous results never breaching 90Mb down 30Mb up.
this what i get from EE UK
