Even though there are a lot of people out there with the same problem, I cant see a viable fix other than to re-format the card?
My question is, why after the update? It ran fine in the same phone when I was running 4.1.2
I saw in a post that making a file named .nomedia in the sdcard will prevent the media check. Will this prevent apps like movies and photos from finding out new files as well?
For whats worth my sd card is 16GB and is a Transcend C6
I have the same problem on my Xperia TX since 4.3 upgrade.
I read a post on the official sony support page, and they recommend reformat the sd to exFAT format, but after doing that the problem persists...
Any clue?
Take the SD card out, and check it's filesystem with a PC.
Also, make sure that the card is well inserted in the slot, because the V has a rather loose socket for the SIM and SD, and you may have bad contact on it.
Many users got this due to bad "sectors" in the SD, which is a common problem due to the technology being used (it doesn't like too many re-writes in the same memory region).
Sometimes, the only fix is to get another SD...
Good luck, mate.
Thanks for your reply.
When the phone detects the card it sees as 16gb (actually 14GB), but when I check it on my pc it says that it's a 30MB card.
The card worked fine until the 4.3 android upgrade.
I think it's dead....
No, try to format using your pc, but use another filesystem , than reformat into your phone

After trying in several OS and phones my final conclusion it's that the 4.3 upgrade fried my 16GB sd card...
It was working flawlessly on my old Blackberry 9930 for almost a year an then on my TX since July 2013 until I updated my phone to 4.3 in february.
At the official Sony support forum there are many complains about this issue and the official Sony Statement it's something like: "**** happens", they don't care about the money you spend replacing your SD nor your data.
I think we should raise our voices and get a better solution for this problem...
Actually the card may have fried due to too many overwrites in the same memory region.
It's a problem of the SD technology. Actually it could also happen on a cheap SSD drive if it's firmware doesn't do realtime remapping.
And SD cards are even more prone to this...
Don't blame on the OS upgrade, because it could happen anytime if massive rewrites are performed.
If you check Samsung's and other forums, they also have their fair part of similar issues.
I know that it maybe caused by errors on the technology, but it's a big coincidence that after updating the os from 4.1.2 to 4.3 the card start to fail, go to the Sony support forum and you will see a lot of complains on Z, V, T, TX, S models after the upgrade.
My sd isn't a cheap model, it cost to my $30 when I bought it 2 years ago, Sandisk 16GB Class 4 SDHC.
I think it's something related to the SD support on the 4.3

Hello there,
me again, i fear i do not have much luck with my note....
this happened to me with 2 different 32 GB sd cards (same type though) now. First time i thought the card itself was the problem, but now i doubt it.
When i first inserted the card, everything was fine, i copied several gb of music on it without problem, could access al files from phone and via Windows.
Played some files with MortPlayer the other day, and after the next restart of the device (had to shutdown for flight) it suddenly complained that i had removed the card while the system was running.
This does not happen at all with my old 8 GB sd, though, it's running fine whatever i do.
Cannot access the card anymore from phone, camera or PC (Win7 x64).
Runnning german stock rom ICS 4.0.3 rooted on the phone.
Did this ever happen to anyone else and/or is there i way to get that card running again? It does not show up under Windows at all anymore, not even as unformatted or so.
Any help or hints appreciated, thanks in advance.
Try paragon partition manager to format the sd card then see if it works if it does reformat on the phone. I read somewhere that you could format to ntfs and back to fat 32 to get it recognised

thanks for the quick answer.
the problem is (don't have paragon where i am atm, but tried with Acronis Disk Director & HP USB Repair Tool and i guess it would be the same with paragon?) that i simply cannot see the device anymore via such tools, same is for the windows disk/storage management.
So reformatting it seems not to be an option here, was more or less hoping that someone knows another "trick" how to get the thing back to life - and of course a reason why my Note might have "destroyed" the 2 cards.
did you buy these SD cards new ? if so was the seller a reputable one ? there are a lot of fake / dodgy Sd cards on the market nowadays
Do you use a card reader via a usb port ? if so try a different port, like one on the back, direct to the PC's motherboard, finally if that fails, try someone else's PC.
If all the above fail I guess the SD is completely dead. I dont know how the Note could have caused this unless the card was a fake, People are using 64GB SD's with no issues at all.
both were brand new cards, bought directly from Amazon.
Could of course be possible that they both were from a bad batch... Gonna ask amazon if there have been any issues with that product so far, could not find bad ratings for it though when i checked.
I'll try to get hands hands on another cardreader, left for vacations yesterday and just have my Netbook with internal USB based card reader, the Galaxy Note and a Nikon D7000 with me, which all do not recognize it, but the backup 8 gb sd card .
thanks for your time
S.
Amazon are friendly, If you havent had the cards long just explain to them the situation and im sure they will refund / replace.
You could be right about a 'bad batch' unfortunately with all the technology we have, it still happens
Hope you get it sorted :good: keep us posted !!!
Samsung NOTE - dead 32gb SD card
first - apologies - I am not an XDA developer (I am a retired architect... and a noob)
This thread came up when I searched "Samsung note destroys SD card". I will simply report my experience in the hope that others may find it useful.
I get a Samsung NOTE G-N7000 in late August & buy a 32Gb SD card from amazon (specifically getting a Samsung one to avoid any incompatibility)
I load about 7gb of music tracks onto it from my PC; it works perfectly& gives me good quality music playback until a week ago; then all playback form the card becomes impossible with an "unrecognised file type" message. I format the card in the phone. I dismount it. I slot itn to my PC, where "my computer" says that it has zero gb capacity, & will not format it. I mount it in my old Blackberry Curve which says it has 29.2 gb capacity - I format it - & the curve says it now has 1.2 gb capacity. The PC still says it has no capacity.
The only possible cause I cant hink of it is that I seem to remember there had just been an Android software uprgrade (to 4..0.3.?)
I find Samsung phone help, ring them, and get very badly run around - several times I am given a phone number for "Samsung SD cards" which is actually the UK "Orange" help number. I have rung three or four numbers at least threet imes each before I get through to Samsung SD cards help. They ask for photos of both sides of the micro SD card - having (I presume) established that it is a genuine Samsung product they e-mail me a product return form & code.
I have sent the card off to Florijn in the Netherlands.... I am not holding my breath.
It has not been a good week for memory...
- Outlook Express started to compact messages as the computer was closing down (so I have no e-mails before 15th Nov 2012)
- this SD card died on me
- & I forgot to go to a folk music dinner &music session that I had booked a week previously
I begin th think alzheimers might be a welcome release....
Your "watch this noob" video... perhaps one of the funniest videos I have seen for a while ... and certainly the most annoying... andyou expect "thanks"?
Well thats something really unusual. Because i am using my note for a year now and bought a 16 gb card with it. I onky encountered 3 errors where my n7000 stopped Reading the memory saying bad memory and what i did was to take it out of the slot and then reinsert it again and It worked fine.
The only advice i give to everyone. Dont plug ur phone to the pc or any other device always keep ur phone wireless with other devices so thst the malware cant replicate to ur storage. I use kies air or bluetooth exchange in cases there is large data i cooy it to the usb and then plug that usb to my phone and it works ok.

Hi all,
I have encountered a problem with my Z this weekend and this is related to the installed SD Card. Suddenly I have got the message that the SD Card was removed unexpectedly (ADATA 16GB Class 10); I have removed it from the slot and upon reinsertion, the card was not detected at all. Then, I have tried to connect it to multiple laptops and desktops in their card readers and the card was not detected at all. The only device that was able to browse the card was a GPS navigator with Windows Mobile on it. After formatting the card and recovering what I could from it (I have lost most of my photos), I reinserted it into the Xperia Z and was now working fine. My Z does not have any modifications to the file system, besides root.
Has anyone encountered similar problems? Should I expect this to happen again?
Thanks in advance!
Lost two SanDisk 32GB Class 10 on recent Sony devices. Exchanged the last broken one against a 10GB Samsung Class 10 which is running great ever since.
Cant tell if its the card, if its the device, cant be bothered either though.

Thanks for confirming this! This issue is really annoying, and I really hope that this is a software issue, not hardware. Will try to see if I can also get a microSDHC as yours.
It would be nice though to have a list of recommended microSDHC cards from different manufacturers.
For your reference:
I had exactly two of these in use (among others) in a Galaxy Note and in an Xperia T which eat two of them: http://www.toppreise.ch/prod_279035.html (Item SDSDQU-032G-U46A)
I settled now for one of these which worked in the T and now work in the Z, performance is very nice: http://www.toppreise.ch/index.php?a=244220 (MB-MSBGA)
I just saw the latter one got an upgrade and can be had for less money with a "Pro" added to it's name
Thanks for your reply! At my location I have seen the 32GB Samsung microSDHC at questionable online stores so I have to keep digging. However, I may be able to get my hands on a takeMS branded microSDHC to try it out and will report back. I guess that besides the Samsung, Sony microSDHC should work too.
My Xperia has crunched my Lexor class 10 32GB twice with the same result as above. It happens as soon as I reboot the phone - but works until reboot after reformat.
Could it be an app such as spotify that corrupts the SD card? My problems started with the latest spotify update....

Tried a TakeMS 32GB Class10 card for a month or so and did not get any issues at all.
My problems stopped after uninstalling Spotify (in which I stored the off line files on the SD) There are lots of people in the spotify forums with similar problems, but only when using it in offline mode...

Hi people
Reading loads of fora, it seems that Xperia Z has an SD issue;

Having contact with sony right now on Twitter but what i do want to know how many people have had this issue here.
This morning after unplugging from USB my second SD card also failed.
Luckily it was only 1 GB and not corrupted like my 32 GB last sunday.
Its hard for me to believe this is a software issue, because i used :
10.1.1.A.1.253 on sunday taking pictures when it failed, and not readable in PC or other phone
10.3.A.0.423 since yesterday this version when it failed this morning, but readable after putting it back into phone
Hope your willing to add your comments here so i can show this to Sony themselves
Thx in advance
well the 4.1.2 was in the fat32 format however the 4.2.2 wants a "exfat" but becarefull since this format is very weird because in not always working due to the fact that the master table very messy therefore it might asking for the deframenting often. so it can lock it self 0x....
So re format to exfat and everthing should will be fine and there should be no issues .

Had a call to Sony Belgium, seems like its an issue they know about.
But they won't admit it right now or the lady I spoke didn't really know herself
She also said its a sofware issue. So in my case in two versions?
And Sandisk SD cards shouldn't have this problem.
Well one of my links provides an issue with Sandisk also.
So do yourself a favor and backup your SD card from time to time.

Well that is strange because oddly enough that's looks like to me that the controller in sd is dead
well i got 64gb sd sandisk extreme cost over £120 which is full of movies and other customs room but i do back every month. And it is still on warranty both
i was planing to unlock the boot loader today and i am not going to do so
I triest this program also nothing works.
I had luck with sdformatter on a dead 1 gb card nut not on my 32 gb

I don't know this phone but I know Linux in general.
More than once I observed that phones are too weak to manage bigger filesystems like 32 Gb SD.
Their android is not designed for this purpose.
Possibly programmers shortsightedness.
For myself after having SD corrupted I splited 32Gb for 3 partitions - 8+10+14 Gb.
One is mounted in default way, I formatter it as VFAT, remaining two I made ext4 and mount via init.d script under two mount points.
Much better since then.

Nice update after talking on twitter to a dutch member of XperiaNL
Translation;
Own hardware putting into a Phone is own risk
How stupid this sounds like????
An SD Card cant work without a powered Phone. So the power of the Phone causus the problems with the SD card.
So if you buy a Sony DVD player and you put a dvd into it and the dvd gets broken its your own fault.
What was the situation with Xbox right Microsoft admitted after a while their Xbox did the same thing, and offered repair or replacement.
Not accusing you or what but do you take out your SD card out often?
SD card are really sensitive, a tiny scratch on the back of the SD card can cause it to malfunction. It happened to my mom's SD card, accidentally scratched off something and the SD card became useless.

But whats the corruption then? And could you get your data back?
I am using Samsung Galaxy note 2 and a song 32gb class 4 SD card. A couple of days back, I noticed that something was missing from my gallery and holy ****..all my pics and videos from the camera folder were missing. There were more than 2000 in number and around 10gb in size. But when I checked for storage size, free space was same.. 4GB even after the loss of 10 GB. I recovered them using Recuva. After recovering the data I did a quick format and moved the data back to memory card. Today when i was in the gym, I noticed that songs were getting repeated very frequently and when I checked, I had only 29 songs left out of 550 and again i was left with the same amount of free space as I had before the loss. I tried to recover it through Recuva, but this time I could recover only 121 songs. I use to swap my card between my htc chacha and note 2, but that's not the first time. And when i recover files from my card, the path shown in Recuva is something like this.

Anybody got an idea, what's the matter? I hate SONY and this is a last Sony product that I have bought in my life. It's my 3rd card which I got as a replacement from the company. I was planning to buy a ps3, but I have changed my mind. I will go for an xbox instead, because after one year of buying my psp one of its button stopped working and company said it can't be repaired.
I have a similar problem. The card disconnects very often and usually many of the stored data become corrupted. I changed the sd with other brand and the same thing happens.
Maybe there is a problem with the sd reader of my note.
Have you tried another microsd to check if it is the microsd's fault before blaming sony?
I guess you didn't read my post properly my friend. I have mentioned that it's my 3rd sd card, which I got as replacement from the company. I had kinda similar issues with the those 2 cards too. Kingston was working fine. Now I have placed an order for samsung sd card. But I wanna know the reason why it is happening? That wired drive path... Whats is that
I have the same issue on the TW roms. But on CM roms no problems at all..
I have same problem
Every so often I get an error saying the sd card is corrupt or not working or something, and photos or music on the card will not open. After a hard reset, it works fine. Is this common? The card is basically brand new but I suppose it could be that.
So I am having a lot of things acting weird. Apps not working, sd card failure... I need to do a hard reset about once a day now. It is becoming a little frustrating. Any suggestions?
So I opened up the sd and sim tray, took out the cards and put them back in. Seemed to fix the problem for a number of days. This morning I had the failure again and I opened the tray and I noticed that the SD was a little off... does anyone else have this problem? Of the card moving around? Any idea how to fix it?
I may just have a bad sd card, now that I think about it.
Thank you because now i know i am not the only one with this problem!

Hey actually I got a new sd card and it has ZERO problems now. Taking the card in and out was only a temperary fix. i think the real problem was a bad chip. I had the PNY 128gb one ($30) and now I am using the SanDisk 128gb one ($40). I would only buy SanDisk from now on.

Unlucky many people have the same problem and no, your sd card is good... there is something wrong with the hardware or software of the huwawei..
I'm having the same problem with my Huawei P9 lite, both the phone and the SD card Kingston32GB are new, i even bought another SD card because i thought the first one was bad, but the problem persist. I haven't found a solution yet.
I have the same problem. I do not think it is specific to the card. I think the card is dislodged and moves around in the card tray and thus gives the issues.
I wanted to but a new card as well, but think this will not solve the issues. I will try sticking the card in the slot somehow to see if that solves things....
I've had my P9 Lite for a month now, and I've only started getting the SD Card corrupt error since last night. Unmounting, and mounting it again fixed it briefly, but then I got the error again while trying to take a photo about an hour ago. I've just formatted the SD card to see if it will fix the problem. I'm hoping for the best.
Have any of you fixed the issue successfully?
I get this when I copy a large files to the microSD card, movies for example (1080P FLAC 4GB each or something). It still works fine though.

Just an update: My SD card gave in completely last night! :crying: It worked fine after formatting, without any errors, until it just stopped working, so I lost a few days of pictures. Anyway, the SD card isn't even being read in my laptop, so it's definitely a goner. I'm currently using a different memory card, to make sure that the same doesn't happen to that one, to make sure it's not my device corrupting the cards.

Sounds a lot like my issues.
After having the phone P9 lite for about half a year, i'm on my second sd card.
2 weeks ago, i had the message it was bad once or twice, but now my phone is acting weird. A few apps (Twitter, netflix, pokemon go) will just start and close instantly sometimes. Apps will just crash. And everytime i reboot my phone, all that has happened after the 6th of July is nowhere to be found on my SD card.
It took me a few days to realize I might have some problems.
But reading this thread i might invest in a new sd card before doing a factory reset.
Problem is from bad quality sd card not from the phone, exactly like u are connect usb flash to your computer,if sometimes u have problem with the usb flash ,u should blame the usb flash not your computer.your phone is just a reader, try to buy good quality sd card

Did the same thing happen to your first SD card? I actually only started getting the issue when I updated to Nougat. I noticed that when I reboot my phone, just before it switches off, I see the notification that the SD card was removed abruptly, so I think it could have something to do with the software that doesn't safely eject the SD card before the device restarts or shuts down. I might be wrong though, but it's just a theory. I don't restart my device too often, but when I sometimes insert my SD card into my card reader, I get a prompt to say my SD has errors, and needs to be scanned.

No, it behaved quite differently. That escalated from one of two error messages in a week to multiple errors daily.
And it was really corrupted, couldn't format it on the pc or anything.
But how is your current card behaving? All is well?

I had a 32GB (Class 4) Kingston SD card as well, which is one of the brands Huawei recommends to do software updates with. I had that card for 4 years, if I remember correctly, and I've used it with 3 devices, including my P9 Lite, which was the only device it gave problems in (only after updating to Nougat).
At the moment it's still behaving. I got a 32GB Class 10 Sandisk a week or two after my previous post, and so far it's fine. Like I said earlier, when I put my SD card into my card reader, I get an error message to scan my SD card, which means my device doesn't eject my card correctly, before rebooting. I still believe it is either an issue with Nougat, or EMUI 5.0. Again, this is my theory, according to my personal experience.

For me the problem also seems to be solved in the mean time with a new sd card.
Don't know if i like your theory though, since it would mean it is just a matter of time.
On the other hand, google does not show that many complaints......
Time will tell I guess.

I don't like my theory either, lol, but today when I was taking photos, I tried viewing the photos within the camera app, but it took a while to load them, and my gallery app stopped responding. I'm hoping it doesn't have anything to do with the SD card though, but I can't help being sceptical.

I changed from Samsung to Sandisk, yesterday after os update same thing. Took out the card, apps default to internal storage and works. Reseller is no help say it's virus. I am sorry I gave up my Samsung edge. May be should have bought iPhone if only working wit internal storage.
I have an expensive SanDisk card and it's worked fine for over a year, just started happening to me too now though...
