HATE the sense dialer - any good alternatives? - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Hey there... I'm running RENOVATE ROM and, stupidly, did not desense it.
I hate hate hate the stock dialer. Buttons are too small, history button is small and hard to hit while one-handing the phone, and the giant pixelized pic of my contact is the cheeseballs.
Anyway I can get a different dialer? The RENOVATE ROM uses an Aroma installer - sorry for the noob question - but can I run the Aroma and desense yet keep all my app/data? I've spent a day setting the phone up perfectly - the dialer is the only thing I want to change.
Thanks for any help! =)

... yes you can. go ahead without wiping anything and desense it. you can install many free dialers without even desensing it ...

Dont know havent tested it was made with 2.9 apk's ...
Couldnt hold on so i tried.... works pretty well except some of the buttons i see on action screens are half cut...
Great job though...
Thanks
Yes, it also works with Modaco 2.8. Like asadji mentioned earlier, there are some keys that are cut off. For example, the notification key is cut off with some weird symbols like "a%" etc etc. Once this theme gets polished up, it would be one friggin interesting theme indeed. Keep up the good work (if you're planning to update this theme)
it wud be a perfect thing if those half cut action button problem is solved. pretty nice theme bro. keep up the good work. cheers
?
Which Button is broken?
I've got MoDaCo 2.9 and everything is fine. It just need one restart to get all Buttons. At first start, some Keys are not okay. But with second startup it's ok.
I liked this popping up animations. Very great.
I don't like the red colour if pressing an shortcut on desktop much.
Anyway: The best Theme on Hero. Much work!
btw: which files are responsible for the popping up animation? is it possible to integrate these animations in other themes? cheers
sorry.....double post
Desperately need help
Guys.... post the update of theme i am having a strange problem, Going into date and time settings, the "set Date" and "set Time" reflect a two months lag in between and hence that makes the calender useless..... Not just that but i can see two dates on the standby screen....
Thanks
Hm, date and time are okay on my Hero with Moto Theme.
Need a little help
I am on modacco 2.8 and problems are becoming visible i.e. dates issue as well as the buttons not showing clearly. Anyone can help please?
Thanks
Brilliant theme!
If you hit menu from the homescreen and select wallpaper - the next dialog box should be a choice between home and lock screens - but they are massive! Same if you use the HCT mail app and select folders from the menu
Hopefully can be sorted to make this perfect. I'm still using it anyway as its great!

All this works on my Hero.
What I did:
MoDaCo 2.9 reinstall! (not wiping the data, all settings are saved)
reboot 2 times
Then install this Theme
reboot 2 Times.
It works. Folder in HTC Mail App works, the choice between home and lockscreens work...
Try a restart?
is there maybe a video out there, i would like to see the animations everybody is talking about...

AOSP 2.0 rom modding help needed

I love the AOSP build, but I'd like to change some of it...
Is it possible to get the sense keyboard on it (I HATE the vanilla one)?
And how do I remove the background on the lockscreen?
thanks for any help!

I believe to do much of this you need to modify the source. For the Sense keyboard you need the HTC frameworks which essentially makes the system an HTC Sense system anyway. I know back in the day Cyanogen released an HTC_IME.apk that would work standalone but I never got it to work on AOSP.
For the lockscreen, I believe this is part of the AOSP source as well but someone will need to confirm that for me.

I figured that much. I just don't know what .apk's to push. I flashed the signed IME from that new thread about stock Rosie, but it did nothing
I figure the lockscreen is just an image somewhere that I need to edit. I know the 2.1 build has a clear vanilla lock.
What don't you like about the keyboard? I think its just as good as the HTC one. Once you get the dictionary working properly that is. I posted up a thread just the other day on predictive text. Flips sent a link where you can get an updated IME file. Check it out. If you're still not happy, check out better keyboard apk from the market.

the layout is WAY off. and, the lack of a 'keyboard close' button, i cannot stand. plus, with the HTC one, i don't have to hit a button to get to my punctuation...
i've flashed the IME and that helped (i'm glad he had all the curse words. lol) but i'm still against the general layout...
i'm in love with the AOSP because its so minimal on the system memory that it makes my phone quick as lightning. i just want a clear lock screen and the Rosie keyboard...

[THEME] PettyCriminal 0.7 for VillainROM 5.4 (Green, not Blue) [UPDATED]

Like a few people out there, I LOVE VillainROM v5.4, it is by far the best ROM I have tried for my Hero. But unfortunately I am NOT a fan of it's stock (blue) theme. So I have set about modifying it for my own needs.
This started as just a personal project but since a few people have expressed the same views as me I have decided to share my Theme Mod, I call it PettyCriminal for VillainROM.
Please bear in mind, that this has ONLY been made for Villain5.4, and that is the only ROM it has been tested on (although it may well work on other ROMS too). This is also my first ever attempt at making anything for android, so please let me know if something doesn't work correctly (I have tested it and it seems to work fine for me).
The theme itself simply changes pretty much everything in the stock 5.4 theme from Blue to Green, including battery meter, buttons etc, I have NOT just reverted back to the old 5.3 theme, this is the ACTUAL new theme, just re-colourised (I really wanted to keep the notification swipe-down!). I have also restored the original driod smileys that I missed so much The last change is the Lock screen, which I have reverted back to the standard HTC (Bannana-Curve) lock screen.
Here is the theme (flash it in recovery) for those of you that wish to try it out! (I am using this right now with no problems).
Megashares 0.7
Megaupload 0.7
More mirrors would be appreciated!
Zeb
[NOTE]
For those people that are complaining about theme theft etc... The basis of this theme was NOT created by me, it is the amazing SenseVillain theme created by Tristan. I am modifying it by changing a few components here and there and re-colouring the base of the theme from blue to green. I have NEVER claimed that this is my sole original work, in the same way that any theme modder will use SOMETHING as a base, I have used SenseVillain, this is a homage to Tristans work, and is definately not a negative reflection on what he has done.
[Versions]
0.2 - Intitial release to the public.
- Lockscreen changed back to stock HTC one (Curved Drag)
- Emotes changed to green "Droid" emotes.
- Lots of stuff converted from blue to green.

Twitter Widget - Re-Coloured
Calendar Application - Re-Coloured

Re-coloured google apps.
Re-coloured the HTC add program widget.
Re-coloured the Album application.
Re-coloured the HTC contacts program (social media linked icons etc).
Re-coloured default HTC Facebook app.
Re-coloured mail widget.
Re-coloured the HTC MSG widget.
Re-coloured the primary music application (yes, the music note is now grey again, not blue or green)
Re-coloured the stream player app.
Changed the blue tick in the package installer to green.
Re-coloured the "USB Connectivity" menu.
Re-coloured HTC Updater aplication.
Re-coloured the android setup wizard.
Re-coloured the Market application (most of it was fine, just did some fine tuning).
Re-coloured blue handset icon in the voice dialling app.
Re-coloured the world clock.
HTC Lock Screen: I have re-coloured the "Snooze button" on the HTC lock screen when the alarm goes off. If you have removed the HTCLockscreen.apk in order to get the Eclair lockscreen, then this WILL put it back. You will have to remove it again. Sorry!
Re-coloured the desk clock application.
Some components coloured a little more accurately, messy bits tidied up.

Dude, AWESOME !!!
It fix everything that the 5.4 theme messed up (even gtalk smileys )
Total thumbs up !
I just notice one thing missing. The avatar that appears when you make a call to someone without a picture still remains that ugly blue android wannabe, not a true green Android like stock.
but I am so happy with all the green back to action that I don't even care to that,
Thank you so much man.

Come on guys I appreciate that not everyone likes the blue but a lot of very hard work went into making that theme.
Nice work with greening it up for the ones that didn't like the blue but lets stop with the adverse comments.

I haven't posted any adverse comments? I have only noted that I wasn't keen on the theme (as is usually the case when I buy a new phone with a stock theme), I actually REALLY like the theme itself (the swipe-down notification list is awesome), I just didn't like the blue shading for some reason, it just didnt appeal to me, and I'm just fond of the curved Lockscreen too . This isn't intended to "make it better", just as an alternative for those people who weren't keen.
You even have a Themes section in the OTE Updater so I can't imagine you are against us theming this great ROM are you?

GREAT WORK - THANK YOU!
also disliked thr blue style. now it's nearly perfect.
but the htc widgets "wifi", "bluetooth" and "mobile" I use are still blue.
Chance to fix this?
and small thing:
hmm - not sure about: in menu - settings: "accounts & sync" was green in stockROM? Also "wirels & networks"?

I actually LIKE the theme for the most part. The status icons at the top are great, the bars are really fluid, the notification swipe-down is lovely. I just wanted green instead of blue, and to replace the lockscreen!
IMO I prefer this now to stock rosie any day!
Zeb
I hate to be getting down on you for this coz you've obviously put a bit of effort in, but having a second look at your screenshots if I were tristan I'd be totally pissed about this. The poor guy went to a alot of work creating his theme originally and has done a brilliant job in making so many changes(even though it may not be everyones cup of tea, I've done a few alterations to it for myself), now all you've done is recolour it, set a lockscreen wallpaper and call it your own. I can't see a single original bit of input.
Give credit where it's due, thats all I'm saying.

Yea, cos god forbid that we take something we like and modify it to our own tastes... Isnt that pretty much what this forum is all about?
My theme isnt spitting in Tristans face, its paying homage to his work. Surely modifying it to our likes is better than removing it entirely? Jesus, this theme has got everyone up in arms.

[CLOSED 12/20/2010] [ROM] SK-ROM Beta v0.3

SK-ROM Beta 0.3
This beta is now closed, as I am about to launch Magnolia RC1, the first release candidate for this ROM. Thanks to all who have tried out the ROm for their support and input.
Steve
ROM Features:
Based on stock HTC Sense/Froyo OTA v3.26.605.
Uses latest stock HTC kernel to help alleviate battery drain.
"Matte" Sense UI. I completely redid all "shiny" elements of the Sense UI (including green highlights), status bar and HTC apps to make then smoother, more refined and professional looking (IMHO).
Added notification pulldown power widgets, custom skinned by me. Thanks to |||bored|||, dopeshiziot and JSCHiSurf for this.
Apps softkey (left softkey) is mapped to Maxim's AppFolders, a fully customizable app drawer that I have come to depend on, since I first saw it implemented in deficitism's Uncommon Sense. A BIG nod to deficitism for both the idea and the tools to figure out how to do this.
Right softkey mapped to browser (will consider other mappings if there is interest). Thanks to JsChiSurf for the tools to learn how this is done.
Added battery percentage mod and smooth sense icons. Thanks to jercik for these.
Added 6-Bar signal meter. Thanks to deficitism for the tools to learn how this is done.
3-in-1 power menu (reboot option) by snq-
Replaced HTC Car Panel with Google CarHome.
Transparent clock background (flip from HD, for now...) and settings/profile widget backgrounds. Props to HeyItsLou for the inspiration for these.
Made the lockscreen and rosie navbar transparent, and the statusbar pulldown semi-transparent. Thanks to shoey-n for the services.jar mod to allow this.
Slight graphical mods to dialer to make it easier to see and use (IMHO).
All framework and resources images were compressed and optimized to maximize RAM.
Statusbar clock, alarm, debugging and location icons are hidden by default. I have attached Zip files to post #3 to add these back, if desired. Thanks to pardonmyfreedom for the tutorial on how to do this.
Removed what seems to be agreed upon as bloat from the ROM (e.g., Vcast, Footprints, etc.). Other quasi-bloat apps (e.g., VZWBAC, Quickoffice) are in data/app/ and can be uninstalled.
Blue spinning android boot animation from Natemz over at androidcentral.com.
ROM is fully deodexed, zipaligned and rooted.
Known Bugs
For some reason the newest Gmail (2.3.2) won't intall over the version included in Beta 0.3 I posted earlier. Seems that this is not an uncommon problem with various ROMs. I have, as of 11:30 PM EST 12/12/10, uploaded the fixed ROM with the latest Gmail (same download link as before). So, if you are new to the ROM, no worries, the latest version is included. If you already have v0.3 installed, many apologies, but you will need to reflash if you want to have Gmail 2.3.2.
----------------
I have been a member of XDA for a long time, and I recently switched from WM to Android. I have been messing around with some ROMs for my own use over the past month or so, and figured it was time to release a ROM into the wild in hopes that the community can help me make it into something on a higher plane than I can do on my own.
The ROM is based on the stock HTC Sense/Froyo OTA v3.26.605.1 that I pulled from the always excellent virtuousrom.com. By painstakingly analyzing what the wonderful devs on this site have been up to via countless "diff" commands and analyzing smali files until my eyes hurt, I rebuilt/modded the ROMs framework and apps to make the ROM I have been looking for.
I want to state that, while I did my own coding/theming and implemented the features of this ROM slightly differently than the devs I learned them from, I owe ALL of this ROM to those devs' hard work an ingenuity. All I did was learn what they were doing and figure out how to make it work the way I wanted.
I also want to note again that I am very new to cooking (have been a themer mostly) and this ROM is BETA. While I have found it to be stable for my own personal use, I cannot say it will be for you. Therefore, download and flash at your own risk, for I take NO responsibility for what happens to your phone if you install this ROM.
Again, I want to state that I owe all of the devs listed above for their hard work and ingenuity, without which I would not know how to do any of this. If anyone believes I have not credited someone I should have, please shoot me a PM and I will correct my error. Similarly, if I have unintentionally violated acceptable etiquette in any way, please let me know via PM, and I will try to fix the problem.
Install by downloading the ROM to your SD card (or copy it there from PC) and rebooting into recovery, WIPING data and cache (I wipe dalvik cache, as well) and selecting the "install from sdcard" option. It takes a while on the first bootup, so please be patient.
**NB- there have been extensive changes to the framework in version 0.3, so I recommend a full wipe, even if you have 0.2 installed.**
Please enjoy, and I hope to receive your feedback, help and ideas for improvement. I believe this will be the last beta before RC1, unless there is something I am missing
Steve
Changelog
Beta v0.3
I plan this to be the last beta before releasing RC1 under a new, better name. So, please, any bug reports, comments are welcome. Thanks.
Added custom skinned status/notification bar power control widgets. Credits in 1st post.
replaced Ziggy's kernel with latest HTC stock kernel. Didn't feel performance bump was worth battery drain.
Fixed 6-bar signal being limited to only 4-bars. Thanks to |||bored||| for reminding me of this.
Many small framework and resources tweaks.
Beta v0.2
Fixed sync notification animation
Added 6-bar signal meter
Added data/app functionality to allow for uninstalling some apps that might be considered bloat.
Updated gapps.
Added Zip files to post #3 to allow customization of icons shown in status bar.
Reserved
OK. Sorry for the wait. The status bar icon show/hide files are now attached. I tested each briefly, so they should be fine, but nandroid before flashing, just in case.
Steve
nice to have you over on our side, any chance of getting that wallpaper?
@mothy
Here you go...
Wow! This looks great! Amazing features for a beta at V 0.1 haha. I'm definitely gonna switch from the latest skyraider to this. Thanks for the hard work on this man! Hope to see you around more, hopefully updating this thing of beauty with even more features!
I'm stoked to try this out!! I can't download it from my phone for some reason tho. Can you put a mirror up?
Are there any known bugs?
love the matte look.. will keep an eye on this. how does the call answer lock look like? is it matte also or transparent? any plans on implementing the 6 signal bar? and could you elaborate on the easier to use dialer?

Yep. I am just getting into the services.jar files to see how this is done. Hopefully in a few days I will have it. I would like to learn how it works rather than just copy it over from someone else.

As to the call answer, it's transparent. I was toying with replacing the android guy, but couldn't settle on a picture.
As to the dialer mod, it's just a graphical mod to make the keys and dialing text easier to read. Sorry, should have been clearer...

Look at your PM box.

So far this rom is running great! One minor gripe, about 50% of the time when I unlock the phone, I get the "Sorry, android.mms.apk has force closed" or whatever. I'm sure it can easily be fixed with a patch though, because I've seen a bunch of other MMS fixes on lots of other peoples roms. Other than that this rom is fluid, fast, and very easy on the eyes. Love it.
Is Visual Voice Mail removed from this? I know some people consider it bloat, I consider it essential.
I have been running it for two hours now - working great!
It does have VVM. I use it, too.
As the the mms force close, I have also seen this on other ROM threads, hasn't happened to me on this one, though. Will work on a fix tomorrow. Thanks for pointing that out.

As to the MMS FC issue, may I ask a few questions: Have you tried fixing permissions in recovery? Did you use Titanium backup to restore your text messages? Have you ever had apps installed on your SD card?
Thanks!
Steve
I've never used titanium back up, I've never had apps installed on my sd card, but no i have not tried fixing permissions.
It only did it for the first day or so. It's perfectly fine now. I'll try fixing permissions though.

Dialer keypad color issue with MM OTA?

Installed OTA yesterday. Anyone else not able to change dialer keypad from the mental hospital white? I would prefer a dark dialer keypad, which was available in Sense 6. The only option under personalize is default (white). Initially the same was true with the keyboard, but after changing themes in the new theme settings, I got other options for the keyboard that were part of those themes. Still only default for dialer keypad, and no theme change would change it either, so regardless of theme chosen I still only get white.
I looked around the forums and saw that some had the same problem with sense 7 ROMs running on M8 and M9. There was a workaround by uninstalling the dialer app, and then updating it or simply reverting back to sense 6 dialer, but I've no option to do that under the app (just force stop, no uninstall).
Kind of at a dead end in figuring it out. Don't care for the bloat of 3rd party dialer/phone/messaging apps, but might have to try one. I'm not into rooting or mods on my main communication device, and so this phone has never been anything but stock (except for apps available in the store, naturally). I did have Apex launcher as my app launcher at the time of OTA, but that should not have thrown a wrench into the update (at least I don't think it should have). My next step is to factory reset to see if that resolves it...which I'm not eager to do.
Any thoughts?
Use the themes app and download a new keyboard theme.
Not all themes come with keyboard recolouring...

Thanks for the reply. I tried that. None of the themes had any affect on the dialer keypad -- still just white --, even the ones that showed in the preview to do so. The keyboard was changeable with via applying themes.
Hmmmm, if it is a Sense 7 based Sense 6 ROM , it won't work, AFAIK the only official Sense 7 ROM is Stock Rooted, soon will also have Bad Boyz 4.0.
Try the stock rooted, then report back please!
I'm not running a ROM, I'm newly OTA updated with Marshmallow, so I'm stoock Sense 7. I guess I'm wondering if what I described (only white phone dialer keypad) is normal behavior for Sense 7. Like I said, I can't change the color of the phone dialer keypad from white, either in settings or themes. If this is correct behavior for stock sense 7, that's OK, and I'll explore other options by way of a phone app.
Again, thanks.
It doesn't seem like normal behavior, I'm on Stock rooted MM...that is literally just changing the theme for me.

Got it to work. Don't know what the problem is. Some themes that show a change to the dialer in the preview do change it when applied, some do not. Now to find a way to edit the theme and retain the change to the dialer.
Thanks for the help.
Same problem same solution. I've only got one theme that was actually able to change the dialer colour to black "darkside" but I hate everything else about it. Could you suggest any other
